Still holds up to this day, been playing it at 4x resolution with various widescreen patches and 60fps crash mode on my Steam Deck. It looks amazing and barely aged a day.
Man I’ve gotta get a steam deck or ROG Ally! I’ve heard so many great things about them. Having a whole library of awesome ps2 games to play in bed would be awesome! Thanks for watching!
On PCSX2 you don't even need any widescreen patches, the game supports native widescreen! One of the few to do so. Just need to turn off fast boot and set 16:9 in the bios.
From the fun races with takedowns, great graphics and great licensed soundtrack to the violent crashes and horror theme when you crash, this game definitely has everything.
This game is still age very well and it's my childhood game too. Great sense of speed, great graphics and great soundtrack (Lazy generation, best theme song for this game). Probably the best Burnout game besides Burnout Revenge and Paradise. Only time will tell if we can get a new Burnout game nowadays.
It's mad how much detail is in damaged cars, today's games look like the cars barely get wrecked at all! Might need to have a sneaky revist to the burnout series and also finally get around to playing burnout paradise!
Fantastic review brother. I needed convincing to emulate/ download on Steam, you gave me the motivation and reduced my sense of anxiety of committing time and money towards a game. Originally I wanted NFS Rivals/ Hot Pursuit, until I stumbled upon your review. I have already played 'Most Wanted'. But I didn't want to play the same style again.
What were you going to download off steam? NFS rivals and Hot Pursuit are still different from most wanted, so if you got one of those it would still be awesome! But burnout 3 is awesome too
as someone who has 100%d the game 4 times, i feel personally offended by that 8/10 replayability. longevity is more of a problem for me, especially with road rage having a 30-minute time limit so going for reaaaally high scores is missing some appeal. i suppose it makes going for world records a lot less cheesy though
8:14 even after 100% the gameplay alone is enough to make you race one more time, every time. Also, the Online mode was revived some years ago but I'm not sure if people play it nowadays.
I keep a CRT hooked up and it always ends up being used to play this. Burnout 3 is one of the greatest games ever made and is as fun today as it was 20 years ago.
@@colbyboucher6391 The track quantity is quite a bit less than B3, and the lack of a Single Race mode is tragic (although theres an emulator cheat to fix this)

This reminds me of a game I used to play on N64 emulator called Hot Wheels Turbo Racing but with graphics that look more like GTA. Would be cool to see you do a review and comparison in a future video, HWTR was from 1999 so would be interesting to see how it holds up and if there's a noticeable jump in game quality in the five years between them. I'm not super familiar with the range of racing games available so the Hot Wheels one is probably just another branding reskin of existing games of the time, but it was still pretty fun to play in the late 00s/early 10s so I'm curious how it compares to whats out there :)
ive been playing retro games again since release of series x, dev mode is so nice to emulate ps2 ngc wii and more, got a 3tb hdd loaded up all with retro stuff

Also yes, this game emulates perfect now. I also think if you try and 100% this game and aren't super sweaty about it, you can easily spend 30 hours playing this on a single playthrough 100%. Super worth it for $12 AUD. Great review.

They need to remake Burnout 3,4,2 and also Wave Rave Blue storm, and F Zero Gx. That was the peak of arcade racing. All the horro games remakes like Resident Evil,Silent Hill,Dead Space are doing well. Racers need the same treatment.
It aged way way better than Paradise, lazy open world was a mistake if they really wanted open world they should do it like NFS Hot Pursuit 2010. I wish we would get next game of the same gameplay style as Burnout 3.

Yeah, the industry kinda suffered from the PS2's success. Logically it should have beem the one getting ports but it was so dominant that it wasn't a sane decision to make.
PCSX2 is in an unfortunate position where a lot of games were made for the PS2 and only got cruddy ports on GC (if they did at all), but PCSX2 has crazy input lag compared to Dolphin. Which is particularly bad for a game like this.
