And we’re off! Four new experiments from the kitchen. It feels good to be back. - Tom
Matt and Tom we missed you guys
I would watch you 4 watching paint dry, never a bad time! Keep up the good work
Matt and Tom You need a ding every time theres a fact!!! Like with citation needed! Or a lil funky tune that slowly gets higher in pitch as the fact battery increases!
I love it so much can't believe ye toped yourselves keep it up
We need all the crew on the park bench to discuss how each of these went. I really really miss the weekly bench rambles, a real highlight.
"This is not the studio quality you're used to, it's a bunch of GoPros on a kitchen table"
As someone who has rewatched Citation Needed many times, that's EXACTLY what I'm used to.
Although with a little more colour grading, and a little less noise on Gary's shirt.
aye aye, this is back to the good old days
Me too. This is what I love.
thats exactly what i was hoping for tbh
🫡 Yep. Just done a rewatch in readiness for the latest round of TechDif nonsense, Autumn 2024 ❤
This is stupid, this is juvenile, and I love every second of it.
I hated every moment of it, and I want more
Agreed!
Ditto. Especially since Chris made me do a spit take thanks to "Edward the Fingers"
George the fingers
+
Tom's exasperated "No I'm just still angry." Has to be the greatest line ever captured on camera.
There's nothing like a good Technical Difficulties Laughing Around A Kitchen Table show
Oh, hey, I didn't know you liked the TechDiffs! It's a small 'net, after all.
Missed it a lot.
shouldn't you be giving away discord invites?

I now want an oil-on-canvas portrait of “George The Fingers,” in full regalia. Including the royal hoodie and tee-shirt, of course.
Michael Keogh he needs a waistcoat as well though
Plain white vest, though, surely, if saaf landan geeza. George The Fingers doesn't strike me as being a very hoodie-and-t-shirt kind of guy.
...and maybe a pearly waistcoat?
It's because he spent too much time at Bucking Ham Palace
@@nitehawk86 Best Ham-Palace in the land!
This is now possible with AI art
I think matts joke was under appreciated "what's happening in Darwin, Australia?" matt: "evolution!"
Me too
The last line really does sum it up well.
" I liked that but it was horrible"
It doesn’t really matter what you brabble about; it’s just freaking funny! Keep going guys!
MagicLegend “brabble”, nice, I’ve never heard that.
To be honest, and i think i speak for 90% of the viewer base here, we don't really care (not in that sense, but in the sense of it not making us dismiss an idea) how good or bad the format is. We just like the banter and stupid humor. Citation needed is easily one of, if not, my fave thing on youtube purely because of the stupid humor. Its very monty pythonesque in its delivery. Looking forward to more.
Markky it's the perfect combination of smart and stupid
Honestly, I think the studio makes them hold back a little, it makes the show worse.
Well, a studio would impose a stricter time limit meaning that they may have to somewhat hold back...
I’d love a monthly love show of this, that would be great!
Language hack: "I don't care" sounds like you care; "I don't mind" sounds like you don't :)
This is still the funniest thing the tech difficulties have done together. Crying with laughter over George the fingers
"Bunch of go-pros on a table" is what we are used to seeing from you since season 1of citation needed.
Seasons 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5
I like the fact that you apologies for the lack of quality, when the product is exactly the setup that you rocked for years.
I don't think the "Technical Difficulties" lies in cameras or studios, but instead the persons.
I know what you mean but when read straight up that second line really doesn't sound nice :D
Waiting for the sync clap at the beginning all I could think of was "they've joined a cult".
"The Gang Joins a Cult"
[Always Sunny in Philadelphia theme music]
Lawrence Calablaster same! it was like a horrifying northern ritual
You mean another one?
Juliette Watkins there are enough of those already.
they ARE the cult!!!
Honestly, I think this just proves that you all could sit around a table reading obscure Mesopotamian texts in the original Sumerian, and you'd still be extraordinarily funny and entertaining to watch :D
only if they invited Dr Finkle and his amazing beards
Ascdren
Dr Finkel can translate for them.
With the satisfying side-effect that it would end up reprogramming the brains of anyone who happened to watch. Which would be nice.
Should still have the Ding for when someone gets a fact.
Or a "Bzzt" for charging the battery.
Or Gary's sound for time being pumped out from greenwich
I was expecting to hear mystery biscuits (oh yeah) a couple of times but was left feeling mugged
@@Ghirahim3 YES
@@louisgordon4388 They left the biscuits somewhen else.
That Albert Hall knob gag was one of the funniest things I've ever heard. I was literally gasping for air from laughing so much.
"Edward VII!" "I'm sticking with George the Fingers."
Tech Dif plays “Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego.”
Come-on San-dick-ego
Toms reaction to "opera winfrey" is the exact thing I aim for with all of my jokes
Making people angry with my jokes is what I feed off.
You guys need to play DnD or another tabletop rpg, I have a feeling Tom would be a great DM
Tom Arnd
It has to be a cooperative RPG, which rules out “Munchkin” and similar games (though Tom would veto that one anyway).
Yes! Yes! And thrice YES!
Love the format, a few ironing out and it could be as good as citation needed.
I’d like to see it as a competition, each person has to charge there own fact batteries to get home. Last one left loses
A brilliant idea!! :D
Well, Gary would almost always win.
There would probably have to be some kind of handicapping system. Or more simply, Gary, as the most Stephen Fryish of the quartet, would have to take Tom's place as host, where he can spew facts to his heart's content and not affect the scores in any way.
(In this version of the game, he's the evil TimeLor.... agh, no, we can't use that... er... Time... Dictator? No... Time... thingy. Gah. Professor Tempus? I dunno. Fugit. Anyway, he already has a fully charged set of Factterys and is holding the other three captive - two will be allowed to escape once they charge their own factterys, but the third _will be _*_DOOMED TO ETERNAL TORMENT IN THE TIME-PITS_*_ ..._ and also made to scrub out Professor Tempus' Time Machine's Toilet, which is _perpetually_ disgusting as it's suffered some side effects from all the time travelling and has developed a wormhole that means every single jobbie that's ever been flushed is continually passing through it....)
mspenrice The long-awaited return of The Distractionator?
Anything that gives Gary a chance to *CLUNK* into Archivist Gear is good by me!
Archivist Gear engaged. Everybody shut up. I know the answer.
Honestly, I don’t care what the format is, I just want to see more of the four of you talking about random historical things around a kitchen table (or in a studio, whatever).
The Fact Battery?
Shortened to The Factory?
Mass production of facts and boxes of knifes!
Post radiation knifes!
and iron!
Depending on when they are Campbell soup prints could also be produced in The Factory.
*places order for a crate of knives* 🤣
Fresh from the London Time and Hot Steel Dump
I never realized how much I missed these guys sitting around a table until watching them sitting around a table again.
"GoPro's on a kitchen table"
*smashes like button*
Im perfectly OK with the "quality" as long as the content remains awesome. Thanks for the laughs!
I'd like a measuring cup on the table where you'd pour (coloured) water into to represent fact battery level. Facts could be measured in milliliters.
Altoclarinets, I figured there'd be a lot of Americans and I don't live there so I don't know how many of them would recognize mL. Then again, the UK uses a confusing mess of imperial and metric units, so for all I know UK measuring cups would be in... pint? Or both.
Altoclarinets, good to know. Thanks.
Brilliant idea
It wouldn't really matter, so long as it had an identifiable "Full" level, and a number of graduations between that and empty. Any large capacity measuring jug would suffice, after suitable modification with a marker pen. It would be marked off in "facts" anyhow, rather than actual fluid measures, one fact being whatever volume fills the random ornate antique goblet (bought for 50p from a car boot sale) is used as the vessel to transfer Fact Fluid from the Fact Bucket to the Facttery (ie, jug). Start with an empty jug, pour in one "fact", mark off that level with the pen, rinse and repeat until it's suitably full or you've poured in a certain number of facts. Maybe for clarity only mark off every four or five in full and just put little tick-marks for the others.
Anyway, I like this idea, it's very Crystal Maze. Like, oldey timey crystal maze, back when Richard O'Brien was still borderline sane enough to be let out on actual television.
When you've got a broken time machine, why would you want to leave temporal mechanics aside? Who else is qualified to fix the damned thing?
Keith Duthie
Have some biscuits.
Leave them behind and go to the future when they're more prevalent and therefore less costly?
"It's not the quality you're expecting. It's just a bunch of GoPros on a table" That's the exact quality we're used to, that's how Citation Needed started and was the majority of the series
I was a bit worried when they announced the end of Citation needed, but with how funny this was I think we'll have plenty of good material to come.
I think everyone missed a joke about the word 'temporal' sounding like 'temper' and Chris becoming furious.
That physical reaction they all had to the pulling down of the trousers while using a Prince Albert was excellent, and also the reaction I had
The motion Matt does... aaaaaa... I hate thinking about this
9:41 *"What?"*
9:46 *"Oh!"*
That solely made my day
Manuel Bonet I don’t even get the joke
@@DanielJohnNicholson Consider the _last_ time in the video they were talking about an Albert and large metal structures through notable erections.
Haights Ah! I see
It's been far too long, welcome back we've all missed you. This was just brilliant
I don't usually swear in the comments on anyone's videos, but that was f***ing incredible, f***ing inspired, and f***ing entertaining. I'd love to see this format expanded with production funds to include sound effects for the filling battery, the take-off lever, and everything else. The only slight drawback is that it would work better in the round like this and have the background go all the way around you guys instead of in a row facing an audience.
Nothing tickles my funny bone like the tech diff crew poking fun at acclaimed educational youtuber Tom Scott
3 minutes in and I love this. You've turned what was an awful day into a lovely thing I get to watch before I go to sleep. Thankyou.
Oh my god, they've restored the Season 1 charm. I love it. One of the funniest episodes in quite a long while.
Tom, you took an awfully long time to close that Prince Albert tab.
And Chris, don't think we didn't notice that cheeky whey protein on display for the entire internet.
Technical difficulties play Dungeons and Dragons?
cfdj43 I'd really enjoy that.
cfdj43 absofuckinglutely yes. I would drop any plans for this.
I'm not sure if they can meet up regularly enough for an ongoing campaign but a oneshot or two is certainly something I'd welcome!
only if it’s 5th ed, tho
I'd watch them play anything really, 2e, 3.5, pathfinder, 5e, or even... [dramatic pause] Fourth Edition.
YES! YES!!!
Don't over-edit this, it's gold as it is :D.
Also keep the Yorkshire fact in. Or take another spot to form facts around every different episode.
That could be a fun excercise :D.
The never-answered question about which was Gilbert and Sullivan's first opera was "Thespis: or, The Gods Grown Old", which is unique in the G&S canon in being the only one where the music has been lost.
George the Fingers is one for the TechDif history books
Harry Todhunter
George the Fingers and Viscount Slim?
It’s like an intense game of DND with Tom as the DM, mixed with like, trivial pursuit. Y’all are so freaking hilarious I couldn’t stop smiling the entire time. Thank you for the laughs! Have a great day!!
I DEMAND DINGS AS BATTERY-CHANGING ACCOMPANIMENT! (You've trained me too well with Citation Needed, Tom.)
(And biscuits. With jam.)
I really love how this keeps the random facts and interesting tangents theme of citation needed, while still being a breath of fresh air.
I also really love the pun potential of time machine theming
"Some Go-pro's in a kitchen" is exactly what I expect, and exactly what I want from all of you.
I know you've been making the "Two of these people are lying", but I absolutely love this format. Come back to time after time.
George the Fingers - tea to keyboard and screen event. (Welcome back lads!)
That was the day when Gary was taking care of some radioactive liquids in his archive and accidentally spilled some on him - never to tell anyone, but the level of radiation caused quite a noise on GoPro's CMOS sensor facing his direction - What a hero!
It could use some polish around the edges but I think the format can definitely work.
Wemja I think it could use some Romanian around the edges
When there're four guys I've never met and probably never will, in-jokes I've never heard of and facts that are just as new to me and a slight language barrier - and I love every minute of it... Congratulations, you've earned yourself a fan. *swirl*
I'd love to see this one come back again.
Who cares about video quality. This is quality content of the highest level. I loved it!
The table should have literally been decorated like the TARDIS' control panel.
This experiment deserves another run where you guys are able to intuit the format more
"It's just a bunch of go pros around a kitchen table." Isn't that how it all started out, though? Back to the roots!
The video quality is quite good. Not forgetting that most people use UA-cam mobile where quality doesn't really matter when you're viewing on 5.7" screen. It's the audio that's great and needed more often in UA-cam videos!
Great upload guys! keep it up guys!!!!
I was eating cereal while watching this. There are now bits of cereal on my monitor.
Coming back to this to relax from coursework for a bit, and this might be my favorite format out of anything they've done.
Why use a "Fact Battery"? Why not have the need to find out EXACTLY when and where you are, so you can plot an accurate course out of there? (Not enough facts = course too imprecise)?
I would like that change. That would make the time travel mechanic less arbitary ond more connected to the format.
Samar Nadra in this case it's meant to be the replacement for a "battery", because that plot device could just be replaced by my suggestion and wouldn't sound quite as ridiculous (in my opinion ...)
9:35 IM SCREAMING THIS WHOLE SCENE IS SO FUNNY, JUST TOM GOING "wha- OH-" LMAOOO
I was waiting on some mystery biscuits, maybe there should be a biscuit constant across all future shows for good answers
_Temporal Pastries!_ (oh... what?!)
We just always have biscuits
You guys just work well together. I think this format is definitely worth another shot, only time will tell to see how long it'll last!
I loved every second of it. It's entertaining, it is funny, it is absolutely your style and it is something new that still feels absolutely like home.
And also, the kitchen!
The only thing I miss a little (but I guess this being a Experiment it might be added if it becomes the real deal) is the "Ding!" when they charge the battery and give Matt a freaking bisquet for the ring of the royal Albert Hall!
I'm eternally grateful and indebted to my daughter for introducing me to Citation needed (and everything else Technical Difficulties - related). Love it, guys.
George the Fingers has me laughing so hard I may go unconscious.
Don't think I've ever heard Tom cuss.. was in histerics when that came out his mouth!! You guys are awesome, never change!!
I love it. It’s amazing. Though a bit weird without the dings I still love it and I will get used to non-dings
McKenzie Brennan They did say this was very rough, and I believe they mentioned that theyd have a battery graphic if they actually go with this format. I assume that should they actually do a run of this format, there will be a lot more polish, including dings or another noise when someone gets a fact. Also hoping mystery biscuits stay a thing
I honestly love the clap at the start. You can tell how close Matt and Tom are from how they both said "no" at the exact same time and then clapped at the exact same time while Chris and Gary were a lot later.
I'm loving this and I've only just got to "Bugger Bognor"
Any content from you guys is top notch. You don't need high quality equipment to make high quality content!!
Less than two minutes in - already five actual loud laughings out... This is gonna be hard to beat! I love it! Moar please! 😊❤️
It's been too long since new tech dif, but you guys have absolutely nailed it 😂 you had me in stitches from the very first line, so congratulations, and I look forward to the rest of these!
A bunch of go pros on a table? You mean Citation Needed?
- What is happening in Darwin, Australia?
- Evolution
Just made my night, lmao
1:10 "It's a format. Just stick with it." "For me?" --Matt
Excellent stuff as usual, very reminiscent of the early Citation Needed episodes, I've always loved the off-topic comments, jokes and sidetracks. I'd definitely watch more of this.
Oh wow! I was freaking out today because I spotted Chris in a museum we were visiting (was too nervous to talk to him though!) then I get home and find that you guys have uploaded! The world is a funny place.
I know it's been two years, but you should have clicked a picture with him 👀👀
This is almost absolutely nothing but screwing around with friends and it's one of my favorite things I've seen.
I actually had to restrain myself from pissing myself laughing at 2am with a sleeping house 😬🤣
Punch out as many of these as you want.. this is gold! 😎👍
I like the tabletop time machine most out of all the experiments because 1. It has basically infinite premises and 2. It seems like you guys are having tons of fun doing it
The comedy is indeed dodgy. 10/10, loved it.
This is perfect for an animation with cool time machine visuals
That Berwick Kaler reference is going to go over the heads of so many people
wait who?
Daley
The Technical Difficulties are the _only_ reason I recognise that name.
Me babbies! Me bairns!
Didn't he play Boris Johnson?
I'm Mayor of London, would you believe?
"I like that but it's horrible." Exactly how I felt about this format. Please make more.
I hope now that the fact batteries are charged there’ll be more of the time travelling table because that was amazingly hilarious.
I know you take a lot of pride in your wonderful editing but I like this more raw intimate feel of the kitchen, it's like hanging around having a drink with some strange hilarious friends.
I liked the old format return to the kitchen. It just feels more real than when you're in a studio..... Also have some mystery biscuits for fact-ories running on somewattage
This is WONDERFUL. Your laughter is infectious. I needed the giggle today. Thank you all, gents.
When something is so good, you come back almost a year later to get a laugh.
"This is just a bunch of go pros on a kitchen table"
I'm sold already.
"This is not the studio quality you're used to, it's a bunch of GoPros on a kitchen table"
Lads, that's exactly what I come here for.
Honestly I was getting a bit tired of the entire live studio quality thing, I come here to see sweaty blokes having top bants around a kitchen table, under a thin pretense of being a game show.
General awesomeness abounds! I roundly approve, and humbly submit that there be more of this.
Oh ancient sumer gods, I want more of this and i demand as well as desire it right now at this specific moment
I loved the format, reminds me of my favourite podcast RN, No such thing as a fish, but completely diferent in a way
My next DnD character is going to be a Rogue with the Noble background, called George the Fingers.
How is it doing?
Continuing the noble tradition of using the technical difficulties to find dnd characters (jack Churchill , Sargent reckless ect)
oop i like ur pfp
Why has it taken me so long to watch this? I love watching you guys banter and I always end up in fits at least once in a video, screw the technical quality! The banter quality is what matters and it's high!
Woooo! Back under the stairs!
I don't know what just happened, but I love it. I miss y'all being around that table; even if the production quality isn't super high, you make the content super enjoyable and entertaining. A+
