I love that Rakaia phoned her Mom at the end. So precious and emotional.

What incredible people these sitters are. So humble, so normal and emphasizing with their artists. It’s good to see that human care one for another.

The fabric works in the submition but not in today's portrait. The fabric in her current portrait needed more manipulation; it needed to be curved, thinner, and more irregular. The bluntness of the fabric placement looked more like an afterthought today. That being said, her portrait was excellent.

    • @harderway8568

It was hectic and stressful and she only had for hours. Marvelous portrait indeed, if had some more time, I'm sure the fabrics would fit in much better.

  • @mr.e1944

I agree with the Judges on this one. The fabric looked like it wrapped the image in the submission, but in today’s portrait the fabric was cutting into towards the portrait. I like it. It feels like the woman was in a room with the fabric hanging on the wall behind. And the colors of the fabric worked with the orange background color. The likeness was very good.

interesting episode. You could feel that the judges weren't as impressed with this group as they are sometimes. Still fascinating and entertaining as usual!

Yeah I was surprised a couple even got chosen to participate. But that is why it is important for artists to believe in themselves, as judges change, opinions are based on different backgrounds and preferences.

None of the portraits of Sophie got the likeness. Maybe that is the problem with having a young, beautiful sitter!

      @@beakittelscherz5419
Young women are a challenge for getting a likeness. You have fewer reference points to keep proper proportion. No clear wrinkles, hair covering ears and breaking up the head and jaw line, often make up which further obscures the features and flattens skin tones. Young adult sitters are often more self conscious. It is a lot to feel eyes intensely observing you for long periods of time.
Artists largely prefer a interesting face over a beautiful one. With glasses or wrinkles, a slight smirk, a pensive look, hair that has defined shape rather than flowing.
Just like a dynamic landscape is easier and more fun to capture then someones symetrical perfectly manicured lawn with clean borders and plant beds.

@@indigolambartthis is so true. Also her expression was largely blank with mouth slightly open, which although she still looked stunning as you said gave little to work with..i would almost rather deal with a full on open mouth smile 😂.
Yet I am surprised by how many kids / young adults learn by using snap shots of ‘ perfect model / celebrity women’ found from interest etc. That is never what you will find in a life drawing class ( one would hope for a nice mix of ages, genders and sizes). If you are starting out, drawing or painting look for references of all races, ages and body types to help yourself improve the fastest in any media 😊 just one older ladys advice from experience.

Kyle's painting of Gyles Brandreth is very spacial, he really managed to penetrate into his inner world. Kyle looked almost apologetic when Gyles reacted so emotionally to his painting for having exposed a hidden part of his soul, that's real art. unfortunately many other "artists" who were chosen to participate in the program by these weirdo judges are not so capable and sometimes really bad and it's not their fault they been chosen, like those who been painting the young pretty woman in this episode. i'm sure there were many much more suitable submissions from good talented artists both professional and amateur but these pretentious judges choose who they want based on some obscure reasons. at this point to enjoy an episode i just skip all the judges segments in the episodes, great amazing program, very bad judges.

    • @JustTiisLeague

It is in a thumbs up gesture, yes. But in artists’ terms it’s “pencil’s up”. With the aid of extending the arm and using the tip of the pencil and the tip of the thumb whilst using the eye, the artist uses this gesture to measure the subject to either the rule of heads, or up to their own devices of choosing measurement in the subject.

    • @chrisdeoni1697

@@JustTiisLeague Thank you for the crystal clear definition of the famous gesture. It makes perfect sense. I thought it might be a Hollywood invention done by Kirk Douglas in Vincent van Gogh!

I watched one of these videos and was impressed by the talent of these Artists, only after a while I couldn't help but think that what a shame that truly NOTHING in this World is inviolate anymore!! It takes a very wondrous thing like the Artists process and cheapens it into something like a game show contest while some IDIOT rambles on about NOTHING!!
