Personally, I think the Spyderco Tenacious is an excellent working knife. Solid ergonomics in the hand, the shape of the blade is great for opening boxes, etc. Spyderco 8cr13mov is very well treated so that it holds its sharpness quite solidly. It's not the prettiest or lightest knife on the market, but it's definitely a good choice if you're going to use it for real work and not to open a small box from Amazon every couple of days.
Got the Tenacious LW black on black full serrated model and I'm really happy with it! My PM2 has a slight edge with a better feel to the handle and smother deployment but the difference is only slightly better. For the price the Tenacious is a lot of knife, its a little large for EDC but I'm a big guy and in the pocket it feels just fine, I wish they sold the Native LW at a better price for $120 I have to go with the Tenacious but I think I would go with the Native LW SpyderEdge Blk for $80, the Native is just the right size for EDC, IMO. thanks for the video!
I do too... lot's of folks seem to not be fans, I don't get it. I understand 8Cr13MoV isn't anything special, but I'd take this knife over MANY other similarly priced Kershaws or CRKTs out there... even some other low end Spydercos/Byrds. Thanks for watching man.
Very even fair review. The tenacious was my first Spyderco. I didn't like the look of the big leaf blade like a lot of people. After trying the tenacious I realized maybe the other design wasn't so bad rest is history as they say. I guess maybe it is a little lighter than the original but calling it a light weight is a stretch. Thanks for sharing it. Like the sound.
Matt I’ve had a Tenacious for many many years it was my EDC for many years,I always liked the G10 scales on it and mine had a fully serrated blade was always happy with it,still carry it on occasion.
I wish Spyderco would call it the Tenacious FRN. It's in no way lightweight. Anything they call lightweight should at least qualify for a wire pocket clip. How much more could it possibly cost? It is a much better value than a Delica 4 which is way over priced in today's market. I like VG10 but it's certainly not twice as good as 8CrMoV13. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for checking out the review Steve, it FOR SURE could use a wire clip and I can't imagine it would cost anything different at all, heck wire clips are likely cheaper and easier to manufacture. Take care out there.
I just got my first regular Tenacious not too long ago...lol! Not a bad little knife really!! Goes from 4.1oz to 3.8oz...not a lot of difference but I guess it is lighter weight...lol! Thanks for sharing!!
I picked the up Tenacious in G10 from Walmart for only $43 a few months back. It was my first and only Spyderco (never been a fan). After hearing Slicey Dicey and Metal Complex (and others) rave about Spydercos I thought I'd give them a try... now I'm a fan (NOT a "fanboy"). My next will be he Matrix 2 in G10. The "light weights" with FRN just seem too cheap for the cost. I also don't like the riveted construction on some of their LWs. After wear-in, a good cleaning and lube my Tenacious is now almost fall shut. Pet Peeve: why are they shipped from the factory with the clip in the tip down configuration??? Thanks for the great review!
I'm with you, I'm a fan not a fanatic. They makes some excellent knives. This feels like a really solid, well executed budget-end knife that probably punches above it's price tag. I'm not an 8Cr13MoV hater, so maybe I'm misguided, ha! Yeah the clip thing is funny. I think Ive heard Eric Glesser say he prefers tip down carry, so maybe that's why they do that. It is kinda annoying to have to immediately change the clip on a new knife. Thanks for watching man!
D's Knives hooked me up with one of these in a giveaway and I have been carrying it quite a lot lately. Mine is just starting to break in and like you said it starts off kind of stiff but is very smooth - I couldn't resist taking it apart and found that it has 4 washers (2 on each side) and they are all drilled out similar to those on Chris Reeves knives. A wire clip would be cool, but it's an amazing knife and a great value -especially compared to the Delica.
I heard that about the 4 washers, weird. I haven't taken mine apart yet, but agree it is breaking in nicely. I'll keep my Delica for sentimental reasons, but I like this knife better. Thanks for watching, much appreciated!!
The first spyderco I bought was the tenacious and I loved the thing. The tenacious lightweight with the black coated blade calls to me... I might pick it up.
I think if you don't mind the 8Cr13MoV, which I don't, then it's a lot of knife for the money and I think the FRN actually looks better than the g10 in this case. Thanks for watching the review!!
@@mildmannerededc I really don't 8cr if it's heat treated properly and they say the tenacious has a good track record for it. Plus its easy to sharpen so I can freely beet up on the things.
I have the manix 2 lw version with dlc coating I like this knife but find me carrying the tenacious lw with the black oxide coating more (like the Frn handle over the g10 but I am wierd and used to delica's/enduras)
Yeah, I know a lot of people like the Raven 2, but at $15-$20 more, I dunno. The Tenacious is a lot of knife. Do the newer Ravens have PB washers or Teflon still? Just curious. Thanks for watching my friend!
So many times I hear...the Spydie hole needs so chamfering. You would think that would be a thing of the past by this time. But I still hear it time and time again. It’s like WT...., you would think Spyderco would hear the customers calling out by now. It would indeed do well with a finger choil. I think I have to agree with your take on the Tenacious.
It's annoying for sure, this one isn't as bad as some or as good as some for that matter, but you are completely right, it's not a new issue at all and considering its their trademark feature... well... yeah... take care and thanks for watching.
I know, nobody likes poor old 8Cr13MoV, I'm fairly neutral on it to be honest, i have a hard time telling the difference between budget steels in daily use. Thanks for checking out the review Jeff! Be well.
I would sooner use the byrd raven two or ganzo 759m/byrd medowlark 2 over the delica. Yes I consider the ganzo and medowlark two distant bros that get along well.
People seem to love the Raven 2... I'm not a big fan of the Byrd line for some reason... I do perhaps wish this had a slightly better steel, but then again, for the price I think it's a lot of knife. Really appreciate you checking out the review.

Agree 100% about the Native LW, but as you said the Tenacious is a lot of knife for the price. Thanks very much for checking out the review! Be well!
It’s 2022 and I’m considering getting a Tenacious LW and watched your video. Thanks for doing a good review of the knife.
Thanks for checking it out. It's a very solid knife.
Love the Tenacious. Definitely gotta checkout the LW. Thanks for sharin🤙🏼

I agree with you on the Tenacious. I put a deep carry clip on my Tenacious lw and it is very comfortable in the pocket.
Nice! Thanks for checking out the review!
Matt I’ve had a Tenacious for many many years it was my EDC for many years,I always liked the G10 scales on it and mine had a fully serrated blade was always happy with it,still carry it on occasion.
Right on! I agree it's a great daily user, especially if you don't mind the steel, which I don't. Thanks for commenting and watching! Take care.
That family of Spyderco's are really good. I have the Persistence and love it. Great review and video as always.
Do you like the persistence? I cant decide between that and the tenacious
Just ordered mine.... cant wait for it to arrive esp after hearing yr review😄
Right on! Hope you enjoy it. It's a very versatile EDC option. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for your review
Thank you for checking it out. Much appreciated.

A wire clip would be a fantastic upgrade for it indeed.

For me, this was my first knife. In G10. At that time the G10 equivalent was $40. I beat it up! Great blade.
I think it's a lot of knife for $45... I'm pretty impressed. It's not perfect, but it's a great entry work knife. Thanks for watching.
Mild Mannered EDC it is a great knife for making sandwiches...large blade is great for spreading anything across bread.
Just got the Persistence lw. I really dislike fingerchoils. This one is great

Great looking knife 👍
Agreed, good looking and a good user. Appreciate you watching the review! Be well.

I like my Tenacious Lightweight FRN better than the g10 as well. It's just a workhorse of a knife. Really appreciate you checking out the review!
My first Spyderco. Not bad. Prefer the Byrd Raven though.Good review, thanks for sharing !👍
