    I’m not sure why spyderco didn’t opt for the wire clip, could’ve saved another couple of grams there for sure. Guess they didn’t want to make it dangerously light lol

      With a wire clip there is a very real risk of this ultra lightweight knife just floating away 😂

      More like a "FRN version" ... Definitely just riding the coattails of the Para 3 Lightweight which is much more compelling and an ACTUAL lightweight.

    • @kaizoebara
      @kaizoebara 4 роки тому

      Thje irony with your comment is that it is initially more expensive to do a FRN version, because making the molds are way more expensive to make than to waterjet some G10. FRN is only cheaper if you use the mold in several batches of knives.

    I've always enjoyed knives but haven't had anything good, just cheap things with an edge. Recently though I decided to start collecting a bit, and picked up a tenacious & a civivi elementum. The two knives couldn't be more different, & I wanted to see which I liked more so I'd know which direction to head collecting-wise. Definitely going the spyderco direction, I absolutely love the tenacious & can't wait to get some of their other knives!

  • @IlliniDog01
    @IlliniDog01 3 роки тому +2

    Yep, the Persistance is the one that is comparable in size to the Delica I think. Honestly, I really like the shape of this knife, I just don't care for the scales or the blade steels they use in it. The recently announced Tenacious Lightweight Blue in S35VN is interesting, but it still has the bleh FRN scales. Obviously Spyderco likes the shape of the blade and handle as it is nearly identical to their Mule Team Knife Template.

    I do not have a tenacious; however, i have to say that of all of spyderco's production folders, i think the tenacious has the absolute best blade design that makes it a usable hunting folder. The way the edge curves up near the tip to have an angle of 45* + between the handle and tip's edge would make it very usable in the field for skinning or dressing game.
    I just can't get past the liner lock. I hate liner locks and that alone is a complete deal breaker. However, if somebody wanted a nice folding hunter with great steel for a budget price, the s35vn tenacious would be hard to beat.
    Otherwise, i'll stick to the pile of Manix 2's i keep in my knife drawer for EDC use, with the odd PM2, Police, Endura, etc. and stick with a Benchmade Super Freek or Mini Super Freek which features similarly useful blade design for a folding hunter. Yes, Uncle Randy, I've got a 110 folding hunter, too....

  • @D00MTR33
    @D00MTR33 4 роки тому

    A frn handle is poured and pressed to shape. A g10/micarta handle has to be sculpted to shape. I can make a replacement set of g10 scales for a knife. I doubt I can make a frn set of scales. Also g10 and micarta have a "feel" to them and depending on the finish it can be different. Frn looks and feels the same. That's why I prefer g10. That said I'd take frn over stainless steel or aluminum handle in a heartbeat.

    Pro tip from an ex cook in the kitchen - if you take your hand and place it flat on top of the cherry tomatoes, take a long blade that’s either very sharp, or serrated, and you cut from right to left , you can cut the tomatoes all at once, if you prefer. Think about it as keeping the tomatoes from rolling, and then cutting them horizontally, making it faster (when you have to cut thousands under a time constraint, this is how we cut in the kitchen). But then you can’t use the tenacious - not judging anyone’s cutting style or cooking methods because over the years I’ve actually tried to mimic some of your dishes - you guys eat extremely well (maybe it’s because im American , but in Ca we like to stay health oriented when we can!!) you’d fit in nicely here in Cali!!!

    My preferred cheap-ish everyday Spyderco is the Alcyone instead (the smaller brother to the Polestar). Very attractive looking with the grey/blue G10, and the BD1 steel is honestly a steel I wouldn't mind on all knives under $80 or so. Couldn't be happier with the steel (in this price range).
    And It's a Sal design so it has that basic Spyderco feel.

    The reason this knife is so popular is it has made it to the sacred lands, the hallowed halls of the top shelf in the Wallmart knife display case. Where any name brand knife that resides there becomes immortal. Why do you think knives like the RAT 1, kershaw leek and the king of kings the buck 110 are so long lived? Quality? No. It's where the majority of knife noobs take the plunge and spend over $20 on a knife. Thus they are marked for knife life, the budget path of the RAT, the middle way of the leek or the hipsters route of the tenacious. Or the long, dark road of the fallen king the 110.
