- A Barr Note is a nickname for the 1963B $1 Federal Reserve Note signed by Joseph W. Barr and Kathryn O’Hay Granahan. Barr was only the Secretary of the Treasury for 28 days, the shortest term ever. He signed money from 12/23/1968 - 1/20/1969. Collectors tend to like the Barr notes because of the unique signing situation; however the notes themselves are far from rare.
I found a couple Barr notes so far this year, no star one for that note though. Another thing that I find interesting about it is that besides it's short run and being the last 1963 series, is that it was also the last to use the Latin wording on the Treasury Seal: Thesaur Amer Septent Sigil.
As a kid, I regrettably spent some of the ones my great-grandmother had saved. Fortunately, I also kept some.
My grandma saved 77 of these Barr Notes and now we own them. I was hoping they would be more valuable, ah well. I have two G-star bills; so that's cool.
Super cool just found one of these '63 B bills in my change from KFC today. No star though sadly. I've only found 7 star bills so far since I learned about them in 2019.

I have quite a few of these my father horded as you spoke off. Going to check them out and sell them. Also some silver certificates, but one thing at a time.

Very informative. I believe I have a one of a kind 2006 Quarter.....Who in your opinion would be best to look at some pics I have taken. An upside down S sits under the Q in quarter and I swear just above Liberty sits the N from United. This coin has been struck multi times and has doubling obv and rev. Thanks much.
Send it out to be graded don't trust any local dealers to tell u the truth or price have it graded then it will be worth more and nobody can tell u any different on value
I have some star notes I will put on ebay,someday. Have some $1 ,$20 ,$100 ,& maybe 1 $5 ,& 1 $10.
I also have a $100 that has a cool serial # : all 1's but the last # is a 9. My Dad offered me face value for it ,but I told him "no-way Jose'" ! I know it's value is a bit more than it's $100-face value !

I bought one for about $3. So a coin shop really might pay close to face. These are all over Ebay in all conditions as low a $2.74 free shipping.

I got one n crisp uncirculated condition today at Little Ceasars.
I'm gonna keep it. I was born in 1962. It's almost as old as me!
@chrisrees7054 Unless they pulled it from a new, just opened stack of bills, I don't think, in all honesty, you could call it UNC. Almost uncirculated, AU, yes. I could very well be wrong, but I don't think so.

I have a 1963 B bill I found today
Yes I just watched your video on the 1963 b bar note mine does not have a star that has a b in the front and a h in the back and everywhere that you had an e mine is a b and on the sides up front there's two not a five and on the back mine is a 1105 so I was just curious on what that would what that would be I understand yours was a star and mine is not a star I just got it out of circulation today so I guess that's it I don't know if I get feedback from you or not just the first time I've ever done anything like this thank you and thanks for the video it helped me out a lot

Wait, I'm confused. If Barr served as the Secretary of Treasury from 1968-1969, why then is his name on the 1963 bill?
Michael Uchytil Because the series is of continuation due to appointment of Barr during the final month of the Lyndon Johnson administration. The various 1969 series represents the Nixon administration. The 1963B series were printed until mid 1969 as the newer series was in process to be produced.

Michael Uchytil I also want to inform you that the 1963A Series in the $5 & up denominations with the Fowler signature (Barr's predecessor) were processed the same way 50 years ago.

@@rickweigle5559 I hadn't even thought of that! A Very logical assumption, so I guess that would make 2 of us. But once one finds out his tenure... (I'm still confused...🤔🤔🤔). When it comes to paper currency, So Much info to know--Years, Signatures, Districts, Plate numbers (Really?)... I think I'll just stick to collecting coins, as I have for decades. Basically all 1 needs to know is--P, D or S.

Bills were not printed in said year, look it up.
They didn't change the date from 63-69

Sorry this is a little late. But I’m pretty sure if you just look up star note rarity a website should come up that you can put the serial number into and it will tell you the rarity

I had over a hundred of these put away at one time but when money got tight had to spend them. At the time they were not worth any premium. It's all about timing.

E stands for the Federal Reserve Bank, the B located under 1963 means that is the third note printed in the 1963 Series: The first just being 1963, the second being 1963 A, and the third being 1963 B.
NONE from Kansas City? Hmmm.
They were only made for Federal Reserve Districts 2, 5 and 7. I once had around ten of them all from district 7 (Chicago). This was around 1970. You can find them on E-Bay. Not worth much.
