The hand in pocket is a common stance in bullseye shooting. The photo went viral, because the guy just happens to look like he stopped by the Olympics after work to pick up a silver medal on the way home for dinner.

Noir, I really didn't get the idea and the logic behind this video of yours as your follower. Your argument almost sounds like "Why do the Olympics have archery even though we have guns?". Those competitions are not about the tool's stopping power, it's about accuracy. So, I don't understand why a man like you would make a video like this. And for the people who are curious about it; Dikech is a retired gendarmerie officer (like military police) who actively participated in anti-terrorism operations. So, he's not only familiar with real guns, he's also familiar with real military operations and war zones. Respect from Turkey

Yes and no. The Olympics have long used tech to increase performance. Swimming comps in the games the swim suits they use have all sorts of tech from dimples like golf balls to super fine hairs that reduce drag. They have all sorts of rules that govern the use of tech in the swimming events that basically cap how much tech can be used similar to formula rules or nascar rules. With out the limits it would come down to a simple mater of who can spend the most money.
The first time i heard of the Swimsuits with the various tech to reduce drag was on the old beyond 2000 discovery show in any sort of detail but i seen various reports on the news about it in less detail in the mid 90s
Shooting events have also long used specialized rifles air rifles or 22s that are built to give extreme accuracy.
The Olympics sports have always been ones that change and evolve over time and modern tech has always hard a big influence on them probably more so than professional sports.

As a 8 year veteran of competitive air rifle and small bore (.22), we Americans get too bored watching it. There is no loud bangs or dramatic events. Watching it is just as much fun as watching paint dry. However, being the one shooting was an absolute blast. I love the accuracy, precision, and discipline required to be good at it. The target is the size of a period at 33 or 50 ft away. The target you see is more as a reference. Your hate comments are nothing new. I was always made fun of because "they are not real guns." Yet, the skills transfer over very well to high power rifles and handguns. My teammates and I were always the ones qualifying the best at the range (and usually training others) during basic and at our units regardless of the weapon. As for why it's getting so much attention, probably some meme creators discovered this sport and laughed at the difference in equipment.

Nobody should quit just because someone is better than them. Some people just have more natural talent at something than others, and even if they train equally, that can be a big gap to overcome. Nearly everyone will find someone is better than them at something. All you can do is do your best and take pride in how good you are and how much you improve without comparing it to others. If you're better at that skill than others, that's cool. If not, just chalk it up as a learning experience and continue improving how good you are as much as you can.

That's far less finicky to lock in than the shooting glasses with iris. I shot Olympic style air rifle and pistol in high school.
The 10 ring is about the size of a dot that you could make with a ball point pen.
The pellet coming out of a pistol is moving a little over 400 fps and a good rifle might get about 550 fps, so follow through is as vital as it is on a golf swing.
You wouldn't believe how many people came to matches with the same attitude that were near master level and even master level in their discipline and walked out near the bottom of the score board.

I crazily agree, my mind frame was in the same realm as Colion here when I first saw the picture on this guy and thought “how hard can this be” even looked up how much a good competitive air pistol was along what distance they shoot. Around $1500 can get you started which to me doesn’t sound unreasonable and 10m doesn’t seem far until I learned about the targets. You can shoot a pistol fast but to shoot an air pistol into the target they are required consistently isn’t easy at all. Hey man love your videos. But i have to say im disappointed in the lack of research and closemindedness in this video. Precision/bullseye shooting is a very challenging sport, which requires a huge amount of time, dedication and discipline to even become remotely good at. Everything shooting isn't just self defense and how fast you can shoot a standard ipsc target from 6 feet away. It's a sport with a long rich history and is a testimony of discipline. I started shooting from a very young age and have been shooting precision, field and ipsc competitively for a few years now and i have to say precision is by far the hardest. In my case i shoot with firearms, but the turkish man you see is shooting with an airgun, which is tremendously more difficult than a normal firearm, since the ballistics are far different from one another. The airgun pellet travels a lot slower than a bullet which means a longer time spent traveling in the barrel and in turn means more room for the shooter to mess up the accuracy of the shot. It would be cool to see you test out precision shooting, even if you find it "ridiculous".

Even more familiar, although somewhat subliminal, is another attitude the shooter projects through his posture and lack of equipment, one of...laziness. Now, let me reiterate, I am NOT accusing the shooter of laziness, nonchalance or detachment (Although a certain amount of detachment, of the Zen kind, probably isn't a bad thing.), in fact, clearly, he's a crack-shot and earned his way into the competition, I am however, accusing the average internet user of a certain amount of all three of those attributes and let me say this loud-and-clear: Myself included. The internet, with all its attraction, tends to diminish everything that lays outside the confines of the screen you're viewing it on thus detaching you from everything around you. The time that is devoted to your phone or computer can be calculated to reveal the time you've squandered that could have been spent with family or reading a book or talking to your children and the time spent semi-motionless as you scroll and troll, sitting in your office-chair or on the toilet accomplishing nothing except to stimulate whatever part of the brain that responds to that kind of stimuli can easily be mistaken for and is, in a sense, laziness.

I shoot centerfire, smallbore, and airgun, with High Power Rifle shot with an AR-15 being my focus. I have CMP and NRA High Master classifications in High Power Rifle Across the Course competition. Air rifle is the most difficult of any of the disciplines I shoot. The increased barrel time and lack of recoil makes it far more challenging. Air rifle practice is what got me from Expert to Master and then High Master for centerfire High Power. Virtually all of my practice for High Power is spent shooting air rifle offhand. It's like running with a weighted vest - it's so much easier when you go to shoot the AR.

That way when the scope is broken, When the battery takes a dump, when the wind makes you think a house is about to land on someone. You can STILL shoot adequately. Muscle memory doesn't kick in until the 10,000th rep or so. Ten minutes after I heard an out-of-state hunter rag on an older gentleman's Lever 30-30..."That Round rainbows! Y' cant hit a barn outside of 100 yards!" Older Gentleman proceeded to put a round into the skull of a running coyote at 250. I changed it over to peep sights that have a fine target adjustment and a tiny front post and cast my own bullets and load a mid level load that is far more fun than full power jacketed hunting loads he used. It is plenty accurate and many hunters have used lead bullets as well. Last year, I bought and slicked up a new 357 stainless lever action and drilled and tapped it for the same sights. Last Sunday I won the match. Yesterday, I won the rimfire silhouette match with the custom 10/22 I built (built my own sight bases, rear aluminum stock, forend weights, modified mag release, etc. ). Others shoot bolt actions, lever actions, and even anschutz olympic rifles, as well as other 10/22's. Its because other than F-Class Rifle, Bench Rest Rifle (and PRS type events to an extent), American shooting sports in general are not focused on accuracy and precision that is even close to Olympic level targets, but rather defensive use type accuracy and precision which is night and day different.
Take the air pistol event in question here, the 10 ring is less than 1/2" (its 11.5mm or .45in for those my fellow American's who still don't understand the much easier to use metric system) in diameter at 10 meters (10.94yard). That's right at about 4 MOA which might seem large at first BUT considering that the A zone width of an IPSC at 50 meters is 10.3 MOA, the Olympic target 10 ring @ 10 meters requires a significantly higher degree of accuracy and precision than any ISPC competition which goes back to what I said about our focus being on defensive use where precision and accuracy is MUCH less important.
Hell, even the 25 meter rapid fire pistol Olympic event has a 10 ring that is 100mm (3.94") which is still 50mm (1.97") smaller than the A zone width of an IPSC. That's 13.75MOA for the 10 ring for that distance vs. 20.63MOA for the IPSC target at the same distance (for those that like thinking of targets in MOA).

Some years ago the National Shooting Sports Foundation sponsored Project Rapid+Action. Held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, numerous name, champion practical/action competition shooters were invited to try out for Rapid Fire Pistol and other International shooting events and win the Olympics.
The result: all of these champion shooters shot well (no surprise) but none were good enough to qualify for the Olympics.
There is no doubt any of these champion shooters could have improved enough to qualify for the Olympics if they dedicated themselves to it, but none of them did. The same thing would have happened if the shooters who did qualify for the Olympics tried out for their discipline. It’s very understandable why name, sponsored, champion shooters would not make the switch away from the thing they’re winning at. The point here is nobody, not even established champion shooters, is going to just sweep in and win something at a high level without putting in considerable specific effort toward that goal.

In this case, yes, he's shooting an air pistol. But there is a sport in the USA that used to be known as Bullseye, which is now called Precision Pistol. This sport had it's super bowl just last month at Camp Perry, Ohio, for the NRA National Matches where hundreds of shooters gather to shoot .22lr, and centerfire pistols including a match with .45 ACP. There are small leagues across this country for this sport that do pretty much the same thing as Mr.Dikek with actual firearms and no fancy head gear. Of course, most shooters in this country are not interested in it because it takes immense focus to consistently hit a 10 ring the size of a nickel at 50ft, or proportionally larger at 25 or 50 yards. We just don't have that sort of attention span anymore, so the sport is slowly dying out. Even Mr. Micelek that you showed doing his thing will tell you Bullseye Pistol is tough.

After seeing this news and hearing that question posed by various social media personalities over the past few days, this is the conclusion I have come to:
It's because we view shooting very differently from the rest of the world. The top three countries shown do not have the people's right to bear arms confirmed. Therefore, from a cultural perspective, shooting would be viewed more from a sporting mindset. From my limited knowledge of THIS kind of shooting, it's about as sporting as you can get.
Meanwhile, shooting in the US is given a greater emphasis from the preparedness and civic duty mindset. Shooting for sporting purposes is an offshoot from the overall firearms culture and not a centerpiece of it. When we basically have access to the same cartridges that our military uses (and then some), it's not hard to see why we Americans would raise an eyebrow at an event like this.

the thing with airguns is, they are inherently less accurate than firearms. the lighter and slower pellets are disturbed by air currents that even a .22 short cb wouldnt notice. combine that with how finicky the gun itself can be (air density and humidity can affect the pressure, changing velocity of the pellet, throwing off trajectory; how the pellet is seated in the chamber can affect the seal, etc) and just how competitive the sport gets (seriously, the center ring is smaller than a dime) makes his seemingly indifferent appearance weird.

It's just a style of shooting that we dont care about here air rifle shooting like this more of a hobby to people. And the countries winning are the same usual countries that even though they dont allow gun ownership will train an athlete from childhood because they treat Gold medals in the olympics like gifts from God. If this was a long range bolt rifle competition or three gun or even skeet shooting we would dominate like we have before. As for the two shooters everyones talking about the korean girl is popular cause shes attractive and korean the internet loves that, and the turkish guy because hes just a geniune humble dude in a sea of people with tens of thousands of dollars of goofy looking gear on.

@tiputipu777 didn't know they still had trap cuz I remember they took double trap out of the olympics years ago so I thought it was gone. As for skeet yeah its predominantly Vincent in Gold but we also have more people placing there in general, which was what I was getting at. America is far more likely to have a presence in that competition because skeet is actually fairly popular here. The rest of the competitions just arent really conducive to American shooting practices like 3 gun competition would be. Basically, over half the shooting sports in the olympics are just stuff most American shooters do for fun and dont care about, like the Chinese or Korean athletes will. Really its stuff that most shooters in general dont care about if they live somewhere that actually allows gun ownership and shooting. Like you said RWS in oulu should be way more entertaining.

The reason why US shooters dominate this is because you don't have good shooters for this discipline. Recoil doesn't meter here because air pistols are single-shot and they go for extreme accuracy. So, regarding the first question, why is it such a big deal, it isn’t, and the Turkish shooter just proved the point. He didn’t need all the cyborg gear, he simply picked up his air pistol and went to the line and shot. It’s the shooter not the gear. As to why America does not dominate the Olympic air gun competition, well even though air guns have made phenomenal strides in technology and power, unfortunately for most Americans they still are viewed as what you shoot as a kid until you get to use a real gun. But I suspect that is changing and I think we will see more interest and we will be more successful in the future.

Air pistol rifling combined with a long barrel makes for uncompromising precision, meaning a tiny 1 mm flinch in either direction sums up on your target at a 3-5 cm deviation. Look up how small the ten ring is. That naturally goes for the rifle as well. This game is not about the bang or target destruction as brought up in your video. Cyborg level of self-command with cutting-edge technique are what the airgun discipline is supposed to measure between the competitors.

I used to be part of the Army’s shooting unit, the AMU and the AMTU#6.
This was the high power rifle/pistol team, plus we were marksmanship instructors for army units and civilians.
I don’t see as many people doing the target precision shooting type of matches, which was very active throughout the country during the 70’s-80’s. I think the decline of JROTC at Texas schools is one of the reasons why shooting at the Olympic level, and other levels of precision shooting in college, plus the people who literally grew up with some kind of rifle or pistol shooting starting at 7-8 years old are not as prevalent today.
Too many people don’t realize how hard the path to making an Olympic shooting team is exists. My dream, was to make the Olympic team and win every gold medal possible in the precision shooting sport. Unfortunately the army has no enlisted on the 3 position smallbore teams, least it didn’t during my service time. Trying to make the Olympics team is not a walk on thing, especially the precision teams. The amount of years, plus time behind the gun every single day, all day sometimes, isn’t a shooting sport most people can afford, or have time to do nowadays.
Having a chance to make the Olympic team, means you have been shooting a rifle since 7 years old, have been concentrating on 1-2 types of precision shooting, and unless you’ve shot 4 years during your JROTC high school team, then maybe do good enough to make a college level team with a scholarship for another 4-6 years, then get the funding to do it privately, or as part of a military shooting team.
The level of skill and training is a considerable difference compared to any other type of shooting. You shoot rounds in practice every day 8 or more hours, sending bullets down range using 500 rounds and up each day. It’s an expensive sport, just for the amount of rounds, and the firearms can be very specialized/expensive. I don’t know how many people even get the chance to shoot like this, and very few are getting the opportunity today.
The anti gun crowd doesn’t know much about shooting, only what they have been told, and ZERO knowledge about any shooting, firearms, training, etc. The impact on our young people to even consider shooting a gun or touching one, is severe. How many times have you heard a kid say they were told to run away from any firearms they might see, on the ground or on someone’s body? At least 5-6 times personally, from my kids friends. The knowledge about guns being taught to kids declining still. I tell the anti gun people who bring up their bullshit that until they learn the history of firearms, learning everything they can how to handle, use, load, shoot, then clean, maintain, and store the 3 main types, pistol, rifle and shotgun, too STFU about something you 99% of anti gun people have no clue about, and after you do these things, then you can sit down and actually talk about the lie called “gun violence”. What’s coming outta your mouth is the reason why people are getting shot in “mass shootings”, and yes it’s because of your ignorance to think taking something away from the 200 million plus firearms owners who have nothing to do with the shootings, but it’s us who are being punished by telling us we have to give up our private property to make your feelings that you’ll be safer, means you don’t give a shit about who died in the last shooting, only the firearms are banned from private ownership, no one is allowed to have firearms. Not once has ANYONE from the anti gun crowd did learn the things I said above, or asked for the multiple ideas those of us who have guns have mentioned before… Maybe changing things called “gun free zones “ to be removed, and said publicly “ we will shoot you dead “ if you’re stupid enough to try to hurt or steal pulling a gun, you understand the concept of getting your ass ventilated by multiple people. This is 100% better for stopping the next warped evil bastard who skips the first 3 places he tries to go are not gun free zones, choosing to enter a gun free zone cause he knows there’s a 99.9% chance no one is going to shoot his ass until the law shows up.
Over 75% of the shooters chose a gun free zone to kill strangers of any age, because his problems will be somehow solved due to the warped evil decision process, and many of the shooters have been identified by local police and family, yet passed the background check to buy a gun, which is run by the FBI , and they were given the information, yet he was told it was okay to buy it.
Tell me changing that one thing, won’t help stop the killing. You’re full of shit to ignore this fact, you anti gun people want more people killed. Otherwise, the ideas told many times as a possible solution to help stop the shootings, would have been tried at least. But no, it’s trying to force firearms owners who might have stopped the next evil guy who needs to suffer and give up their private property to appease your feelings is the only way to stop it.
Yeah, I don’t like the special kind of stupid people who think they have a right to force their opinion on others, and forget they have ZERO authority to do try it. Become knowledgeable, learn and use what I said about firearms, even if you never touch one again, you’ll know it’s no longer a evil gun, and have respect for it , yet know it’s just a tool, how you use it makes the difference.
Sorry for the soapbox rant, but anti gun people irritate themselves with their ignorance, and use that ignorance to flap their lips throw’n bullshit on something, and I think it’s bad to live like gullible idiot, and showing everyone it’s a fact you are.
Yes Colin, the anti gun crowd is one of the reasons why we don’t have the next generation of shooters in the Olympic Games. The sport of precision shooting is not as popular, and our kids ain’t being taught about firearms in the home, and schools. Definitely a factor for one part of your question.

So for those outside the gun community seeing a more casual type of shooting for the first seems special. I hope this will cause people outside the US to open up to guns more.

@@Isthislife2135 Yes. Especially with spring powered airguns, just as he wrote. Because spring powered air guns have reverse recoil. They don't recoil backward, they recoil forward. The reason is the internal spring pushes a piston forward to compress the air behind the pellet enough so that the pellet is ejected from the barrel at rates between, say, four hundred to 1100 fps. Since at the highest, this velocity is below the speed of sound and therefore still comparatively slow, the time pellets spend in barrels (dwell time) means the shooter has to be dead consistent with hold follow through or the shot goes wide.

This is why the UK got gold on mens trap shooting, and Silver (Should have been gold due to a poor judge decision) for womens skeet. Because over/under shotguns are by far the most common, less restricted and easiest type of shooting to get into (excluding air rifle/pistol). You need a license but once you have it and have a place to store them safely you can buy and sell and do what you want, you aren't restricted on how much ammunition you can have or where you put it, you also dont need any prior experience just a safe attitude and you aren't told what you can and cant do with them. Where as you are with rifles and rifle ammunition which you are limited to a certain amount and you cannot buy and sell rifles like you can with shotguns as easily, are questioned on every new rifle you want to purchase and have to ask permission and have to prove a good reason to have a duplicate rifle in the same calibre and action type. So it makes sense we would have more chances of people being good at the small type of shooting we have available to the masses.
