This dress turned out lovely! I haven’t been able to sew in a while due to health issues, so I enjoy watching others get creative with their sewing endeavors. The addition of the ruffle on this dress was an excellent choice. It adds just the right touch of storybook and whimsy without taking it too far. A slightly restrained fairy tale, if you will. Keeps it very wearable while still involving some of the more fanciful elements. Also, I am so glad that the algorithm brought me to your channel! Not only because of the sewing, but because it’s really cool to see another schnauzer lover on here! My late mini schnauzer was all black like yours. My current mini (well, she’s more of a micro-mini at 7 lbs) is a parti coat. They are definitely my favorite breed. If you still have some scraps leftover, you should consider making your dog a little collar with ruffled edges to match. You would look so cute together!
Thank you so much! I'm so sorry to hear that you haven't been in good health lately, I hope things get better soon and that you can get back to sewing. Aw thank you so much, a slightly restrained fairy tale is exactly how I'd like everything in life to feel so that is a great compliment! I'm definitely going to be using that ruffle neckline again in the future. That is so kind of you, I'm so glad that it brought you here as well! How sweet, mine is the light of my life and I'm sure you feel the same. Chloe is my first Mini Schnauzer, but I'm sure she won't be the last. I absolutely love the idea of making her a matching collar and one with a ruffle would be so cute! I'm officially adding that to my upcoming projects list, maybe as one of her Christmas gifts ;) Your comment brought me so much joy, thank you so much for watching and I hope to see you back around here again soon. Chloe has another little cameo at the end of my latest video as well. :) I hope you have a wonderful day!

Hi Cait! Such a beautiful dress, thank you for sharing! How did you plan the shoulder straps? Can you please explain how to calculate the length for top of the shoulder tie vs. back tie (like you did), and what is the width you used?
Maybe I missed it, but what interfacing did you use? I’m a bag maker that’s trying to get more into clothes, but I feel like my wovenfuse (a little thicker than sf101) would be too much for clothing? Maybe not?
I used fusible interfacing for fabric in medium weight. I’m not familiar with bag making but I would think that that interfacing would be quite a bit thicker than what I used. Hope that helps! 😊❤️
Hey there I love this so much !!!!! I'm just wondering about the skirt part- did you stitch one seam together and then basting stitch and then ruffle it? How did it attach to the bodice without a lump? Thanks so much :) ❤❤❤
Thanks so much! For the skirt I did a basting stitch all along the top of the skirt and then pulled it to gather the waist. Then I pinned the skirt to the outer bodice layer and sewed them together right sides together with my machine. I trimmed down any excess material and then I hand sewed the lining bodice material over top so that all of the raw edges of the skirt and bodice pieces are hidden between the outer and inner bodice pieces. I hope that makes sense. I’ll try and go over that bit in more detail the next time I make a dress with a gathered skirt. Thanks so much for watching & happy sewing!
I'd love to make something like this, it turned out so beautiful! Did you keep the modesty panel the same size as pattern or make it wider so you could get it on? Do you pull this over your head since there is no zipper? Thanks!
Aw thank you! You could totally make it! ❤️ I kept it the same size but I didn’t do it like a true modesty panel (because I didn’t know what that was until after I made this dress haha). Basically I sewed the two extra panels of the bodice to each side (lined) and then didn’t sew the two together in the middle so it’s sort of two modesty panels. It worked really well for me. I can put it over my head, or put it on legs first because of the open back and skirt zipper. 😊 Hope that’s helpful! Thanks so much for watching!
In my precious video “Make a Birthday Dress with Me! (Part One)” I go over my planning process, which pattern I used for the bodice and how I drafted the skirt. 😊❤️
It’s giving me Cinderella vibe, even though it’s nothing that she wore. It turned out beautifully ❤
Ooo I love that! I’ll feel like Cinderella now when I wear it 😊❤️ Glad you liked it and thanks so much for watching!

Love it so much!❤️🙏🏼 Greetings from germany ✨
Thanks so much! 😊❤️ I have so many wonderful memories from Germany! What part are you from? Thanks for tuning in!
@@CaitMakes Oh that sounds so beautiful! I'm from south of Germany - Bavaria - Regensburg :)
This is awesome! Love it :)
Aw thank you so much! Do you sew as well?
beautiful i like it.
Thank you! 😊
for the straps you have to cut the fabric on the bias so that it can turn inside out for the loops
This is great advice, thanks! I didn’t have quite enough fabric to cut them out that way but that would have saved me a lot of trouble for sure! ❤️❤️

Pattern making video please?

I think the back piece is called a modesty panel
Ah thank you, that makes perfect sense! :) Thanks for watching!
Why it took you triple days b4 sewing it
Sometimes the slowest part of sewing is the prep-work 😆 Thanks for watching!
