Southeastern Class 466 Networker Ride: London Charing Cross to Gillingham (via Sidcup) - 01/07/21

  • Video: Riding the full evening rush hour service of 2N90 from London Charing Cross to Gillingham (Kent) via Sidcup onboard a Southeastern Class 466 unit (466034 with 465914 & 465901 forming a 10 car service). There is only one type of this long distance Networker service to/from Gillingham and Charing X which runs every weekday morning (one inbound from Gillingham - 2D12) and evening (one outbound to Gillingham - 2N90) rush hours, as the daytime schedules have the trains running on the Sevenoaks stoppers.
    Enroute to Gillingham, the train does not call at Lewisham and runs non-stop to Hither Green before continuing via the Sidcup Line toward Dartford and beyond (unlike the pre-2018 timetable change fast service which went via Lewisham and Woolwich Arsenal). And just as originally done, the train runs non-stop between Dartford, Greenhithe and Gravesend.

    Despite the Class 466 Networkers are 2-Car. I still find them very useful and do work on their own as well working alongside with the Class 465 Networkers.

      Personally I think they should have been made into 3 cars. That way they could do 6 cars on longer routes or allowing them to do independant services without the need to be with 465s all the time. They could be fitted with disabled toilets and so on. But I guess back then they weren't thinking about future proofing them when creating them.

    I believe the off peak service has already been replaced by Luton-Rainham Thameslink services.

      That service is too long and slow it needs to be scrapped

      We need the 707s to run down to Gillingham from Cannon Street instead of terminating at Gravesend. (Calling at: London Bridge, Deptford, Greenwich, Charlton, Woolwich Dockyard, Woolwich Arsenal, Abbey Wood, Dartford, Greenhithe (For Bluewater), Gravesend, Higham, Strood, Rochester, Chatham, & Gillingham.)

      Ummm... the driver always pulled away at pretty much 100%, if you listen to the noise

      @@bb-3653 466s are a little bit of a dead weight sometimes but this one didn't sound too bad. It sounded alright to me.

      @NFS_Solomon yeah, maybe, but in some instances it souded like nothing 3 . I've been on 466 /brel combos before when they aren't in full power. But u agree they can be dead weight. The 466s just showing how they are underpowered compared to /9s.
