I have commented here a couple of times before and you 2 are just getting better and better. I had to break into my 79 yesterday because someone (not me I swear) locked the keys inside. It was in a car park and I'm there prying the door open with screwdrivers and trying to get to the door lock with a bit of wire and no one cared. People parking next to me and walking past didn't even ask what was going on etc.
So yes - these mods are essential! Thanks for the video!

I was once driving along Parramatta Rd, Rooty Hill & saw a couple of guys trying to prior a door, I stopped, got a bit of wire, assisted and got them in.
They were so thankful, I drove off and then thought to myself, "I didn't even ask if it was their car", probably assisted with cars theft, haha!
Live & learn, never repeated that again, always ask now!!
Was in the business district of town, chap trying to get into his old ute, keys on front seat.
I gets my axe out, guy comes running over and says "Stop, I've gotta video this".
He thought I was gonna put axe through window.
No, I used the axe head to push between door and panel, then utilised it's leverage creating a huge gap for the guy to feed wire in and trip lock inside.
Old mate than ran over wanting to video the axe wheeling was disappointed, haha that was so funny.

It's become very difficult to find a semi new 4WD with a manual in it nowadays, Auto is easier to secure than a manual, just put a switch either manual or remote operated on the transmission park switch, so the car thinks the transmission is in gear, the engine management won't even try to start the car.

    Another great video lads.
I've had kill switches on nearly all my cars, having started driving with some desirable street machines. First car - HQ wagon - was saved by a switch down the side of the seat which isolated the auto park/neutral sensor. Second - ZF Fairlane - was also saved by a switch down the side of the seat isolating the electric fuel pump.
Nowdays I'm relying on the factory isolation - "Key fob not detected". Can't even leave the dog in the car without the alarm going off.

Car anti-theft solutions has sure come a long way since the hidden kill switches & steering wheel bar locks of the past. If looking to utilise tag style tracking, I'd recommend having both an Apple AirTag and one for Android OS too - Samsung has one. That way, it covers you for both phone OS. The transfer case tip is something I've never thought of. Thanks for that. Another informative and entertaining video boys. 👍

Nice video guys. If you put the fuel cut off closer to the engine it will work better. 200m is plenty to get a car into the back of a truck or onto a trailer then you car is gone. My kill switch cuts power to the injectors which is awesome. Keep up the good work

DPDT switch or relay. Cut the fuel/ignition on one pole, and wire the horn to the other. when the car is started, the only thing that happens is a rather loud blast from the airhorns ;)

  • @lesgreen4824
    @lesgreen4824 11 місяців тому

On the older stuff it’s a lot easier to get a wiring diagram and insert a switch on the ignition side. All vehicles have a start solenoid on the side of the start motor, you can add a in series push button switch or two, so you have to press a button and turn the ignition key at the same time to start the motor. That switch can be hidden anywhere, even on the dashboard, down the side of your seat or even foot operated. It will not do anything if accidentally pressed, unless you are turning the ignition key. Most thieves wont figure out you’ve got to press and hold the button down and turn the key at the same time. Good to see lots of ideas, it will never stop all thieves but it will just make it a little harder, most thieves are opportunists and lack a few brain cells so easily put off if things aren’t going right. Keep up the good work lads.

The injectors wouldn't run the rail dry though since they need quite a bit of pressure to fire, and when the rail isn't getting enough fuel the pressure will drop to a point where the injectors wont operate? I assume anyway. Still wouldn't want to test it on my diesel.

Good video, airtag is easy to deactivate the speaker so the thief is not notified of it's existence, the tracker looks like the way to go, I remember when these cost over $1000,The only thing that worries me about the tracker is what happens when the manufacturer of the device closes shop due to financial difficulties, then the app it taken down it makes the device useless (this happens all the time) the Airtag is an easy one to install / maintain and good for the city folks as there are millions of iPhones.

I have 4 different tracking methods and a disabler that mechanically blocks the fuel from reaching the engine, kinda like a second key. Even if anyone were get in, bypass the alarm etc, they wouldn't even begin to figure out that there's a second "key" slot that goes to a tap on the fuel rail, completely separate from anything else in the car. Not my idea, found the system and copied it. It was a former embassy car, don't know what embassy of what country, the car was demarked by its second owner before me, but the signs of it being a protocol car were obvious (flag holders, bullet proof glass around the passenger, flat ride tires, reinforced blanket around the engine etc.
My advice when it comes to the tech side.
    1. never show anything on camera, don't speak about the actual solutions etc.
    2. have at least 3 different methods to track your car, including one method that activates only if you don't do something each time you get in the car (easily setup using either arduino or pi - both of which can be powered with a small remote battery).
    3. don't make it obvious
    4. the places where you hide these devices, make a list of places you would put them in, then make a list where a friend would put them in. DON'T put them in any of those places. First place you'd think is the most likely place for a thief to look into.
    5. research the tech you're about to use, find even the most obscure things about them. figure out and test their limits. don't just rely on the data on the paper napkin they're sent with.
    6. don't tell friends, don't show friends, don't show anyone. trust only yourself and yourself only.

Great vid. Hugely serious subject that you handled with grace and humour. Slightly click-bait title, no? 🤔
For non-ECU cars, physical methods, as you covered, plus battery isolation are good, so long as they are not inconvenient. Any system you fail to switch on is worse than useless. In modern cars the latest thing (I know of) is the 'ghost isolator', which requires certain steering wheel (or sim) buttons to be pressed otherwise the vehicle won't start. Ghost isolators are becoming more common to combat keyless entry thefts.
In rural areas (witrh phone coverage) the SIM-enabled systems are best. The Tile etc will work but they rely on other people connecting to the tracker with thier flavour of phone.
There's no universal system other than to have a vehicle that nobody wants to steal and who wants that?

The Nissan looks good after the rebuild. Have you got any plans to come up to Queensland? If you are let me know and I'd be happy to show you guys around the area. I'm looking at doing a chassis swap on a MQ Nissan Patrol. GQ chassis.

not sure about the gps tracker youve used but i know some brands you can have it send notifications to multiple devices which in a way if you break down, go missing ect a friend or family member could possibly look up your location to at least find your vehicle witch would bring them closer to finding you if you left your car

That’s the problem with Tile. It relies on people having the Tile app on their devices to get location data, it’s not a “fault” per se, but a limitation with their system which has been rendered near obsolete by Apple’s AirTag system as there are far more Apple devices in the wild than Tile users.

I've stuck a 209 primer trip alarm between the door and the seatbox of my Landy, with a ping pong ball filled with glitter and uv powder to mark the criminal so even dumb cops can find him. Plus other hard security he'd need to defeat.
When I tested it on my street it got the neighbours out whereas car alarms didn't.

A nice simple one is to pull the fuse to the fuel solenoid in old diesels
*edit: especially if its not alongside all of the other standard fuses in the fuse box

Only a dedicated GPS tracker is worth the money, considering what a vehicle costs these days and can't trust insurance i would install them on every vehicle and trailer.

Thank God they didn't steal it but he lost abot 1.5k worth of gear. The lesson, don't leave valuables in your car and get a faraday if you have keyless entry fobs

Only problem is with gps trackers that rely on sims for geolocation, phone signal blockers exist, and are being used more and more often. Only need to look at that flog Sam young, his 4wd was knicked, had a tracker and still never been seen again

    • @bobwhatshisname2161
      @bobwhatshisname2161 11 місяців тому +1

Sam had his vehicle in to get work done. The engine was out and the battery was disconnected. GPS trackers have an internal battery but they do not last long and that is why Sam's GPS tracker did not work. I bought a GPS tracker and I think the battery lasts about 3 hours which is disappointing, so I made a battery pack from 4x 28650 batteries and wired that in so that even if the battery is disconnected the GPS will still have a power supply and will be recharged when the engine runs. 4wd's are a target because they are getting harder to find and many are being shipped overseas in containers by wreckers and criminal gangs for $$$.
I own a ln106 Hilux and parts are hard to come by because wreckers have shipped them overseas by the container load. I had to get my gearbox rebuilt. The gearbox re-builder said they had bought something like 2000 gearboxes from auction and another 10,000 gearboxes, something like 10 containers got shipped overseas. Australia is being robbed by greedy wreckers.

removing a speaker from an airtag is easy. hoewever with precision finding a thief can still find it. tile and airtag are no real good for moving car. However it will help for a car parked in a more busy location where people pass by.
