    This same thing absolutely happened to us in the uk, white panels were fine but darker panels got to over 50c and just buckled all of the sealant we had when we returned the next day ! Lessons learned

      Typically the whole acm panel is fabricated differently to where you have spline pieces (which are like little 2" strips of the same material) that slide into a little cleat in the panel on both sides which also has a gasket on them to keep water out but typically a acm system isn't water proof on the outside as it is metal, it condensatez

    Man you guys must be true professionals. That caulking job is immaculate. I only do caulking jobs on parking ramps and some drive ways for extra money. Most of our commercial jobs don’t require such perfection but this is interesting to watch. I really like the idea of removing the cover and how you guys did it on the sides. Very cool trick. If I ever come across these panel types I will definitely be applying this technique.

      This guy is Absolutely No Professional and there’s definitely Nothing professional about the Caulking Industry As far As Real Caulkers who would never Do the Major Sins that this clueless Wanker is committing Wet Tooling Using Dish Soap? Finger Fucking instead of tooling? This guy is getting away with So much flim flam and Cheating Diluting etc and that film absolutely needs to be pulled off before you caulk and you can tape it after you pull the film off but No Top Gun Real Caulker would ever leave the film cover on and caulk wiping his tool which is way too big all over the place and then having to wet tool and finger fuck after pulling the film since he broke the seal on the caulk. This video is literally everything that you should never ever do for so many reasons and not long ago would get you immediately thrown off the job

    Thanks for the video man. Had the same thing happen on a job of mine. I was pissed at my guy that did the caulking. Had him cut out the 4 store front frames he did and told him id show him how to do it right. Caulked it early before it got too hot... the next day it looked worse than he had left it 🤣. Finally figured out I needed to caulk it towards the end of day when it was the hottest. Only problem is you have to haul butt because it skins up fast.

    Good info thanks. About the expanded caulking, there is a special tool for grooving tread on tires, kinda like a knife and they have different shapes. You might be able to run it and scoop the excess caulk and leave a nice bead

    I was taught to always use backer rod. Every place, and depth at one half the width. By not using rod, you can’t set a consistent depth. That may have added to your problem with your dark panels.

    • @jimi28
      @jimi28 2 роки тому +2

      By not using backer rod you can also get a three way bond, which can tear over time

    Hello. I know this is a long shot as this video is pretty old but… I’m a DIY homeowner that bought a house clad in ACP. I’m adding an extension to the garage and found your other videos regarding the creation and installation of the panels to be very helpful. This summer I’m going to start the process of re-caulking the entire house as it’s 20+ years old and a lot of the joints between panels have failed.

    What I’m worried about is getting the old caulk out of the joints. Using a utility knife is going to be physically daunting and probably nearly practically impossible given the sq/ft of the house and the height of the walls (20’+). Is there a special tool for this application or one that you can think of that could be repurposed to do this? How about a chemical solution that could either remove the caulk itself or at least soften it to the point of making the removal easier?

    Any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Thats why always remove cover plastic acm panels needs to breath and stay without plastic couple days and plus the joints are 3/4 depth is 1" u have to use bakerrod if you did used the bakerrod can expend also and the best caulk is Sika for hot weather .

    • @LeftoverCA
      @LeftoverCA  5 місяців тому

      not sure what they use there. But the problem was i did the caulk in the shade and when the sun hit my dark panels they became extremely hot . May be they don't use aluminum panels in the extreme heat regions. Now i am using a bit different product when i need to caulk dark panels- Dymonic FC (fast curing). And trying to do that late in the day so it cures during the night.

  • @tonyc7352
    @tonyc7352 Рік тому +1

    4:52 That isn't correct. Such an application of caulking requires a bond breaker. The baker rod is useful not only minimize use of caulking material but it acts as the bond breaker when bond breaker tape isn't used. It is also used to achieve the correct width/depth ratio of the bead of caulk. Maybe the correct bead ratio and a bond breaker would have prevented that failure. I don't think you included the exact type of caulk that you were using? Also, your title was a bit confusing since it seems to imply that the problem was "sausage caulking", I know that isn't what you meant now that viewed the whole video.

    You absolutely cannot leave the film on the metal panels instead of taping ( if you’re not a real caulker and have to tape?) when you pull the film you break the seal on the caulk and that’s only going to make it even harder to look perfect and this guys caulking is absolutely Brutal by real caulkers standards ( and I’m not talking top gun level, that’s a whole other thing) I’ve caulked those exact same type of metal panels and I know that they’re not as easy as they look . You have to be able to tape a perfectly straight line left back a tiny fraction otherwise you will do exactly what this clueless guy is doing When he pulls the film he wrecks the edge of the caulking and break the seal and then wet tooling dish soap and finger fucking Only in Woke Broken No Standards No Inspector USA
