Bought my first one nearly 10 years ago when I was 23. Ended up selling and missing it and bought another one about 3 years later. Unbelievable power plant!
Got mine at 21 last year in June at 60k miles for a steal have had her a little over a year and I’ll never sell this car I’m taking my kids in this car this car is dying with me it is a future classic I love it I grew up around big American v8’s because of my dad but my uncle always liked German cars and I liked both so when I was younger and found out about this car and heard the sound I knew I needed to have one when I got older it’s the best of both worlds it’s a sophisticated German muscle car big v8 perfect car🫡👌
How is yours? I had a 2012 C180 with the turbo 1.6 when they moved away from the Kompressor. I preferred my dad's W203 Facelift from 2004 because it drove smoother and quieter and also had less rattles and plastics. My C180 was so rattly. But a beautiful car nonetheless.
a little rattly, yes. It’s got 210.000 km now and drives better than ever though. after years of driving, my new carshop „coincidentally“ found out that something was „stuck“ (I don’t know anything about engines) and he said the compressor had never really worked before. he took care of it. Now I REALLY feel the 156 hp. before that, I just thought that it’s just how it’s supposed to be. however, this car has its issues. Oil can get into the control unit. you can prevent that with an oil stopper for 25€, but it was too late for me. the mercedes dealer wanted 4k. my carshop just cleaned the control unit for a few bucks and thats it. Also, the timing chain had gotten longer and I was lucky he found out at 190.000 km and put a new one in, because it should have been done at 120.000 km. oh, again more hp since then! I will try to keep that car for many years to come and hopefully I will be able to.
People are mad. 100k on a 4 popper hahaha I told my manager we live in a golden age of used muscle and new cars suck. This proves my point:) I put my money where my mouth is and own a 2016 F Type S which I love and it makes me happy every time I drive it. Great video new sub earned brother!
Peak AMG. I have the S204 C63 Estate as my family car and it's simply amazing. Only modification I've done is a Wavetrac LSD along with some preventative maintenance. It never fails to make me smile. When my kids say 'daddy do vroom' when we're in a tunnel or underground car park, well that's never going to get old. If you have the means to buy and run one, do it now!
Wow that's amazing! I'm looking to buy this car in the near future, maybe 507 ot the black series. Tell me... what preventative measures should be done on these?
I've just bought one at 70 years of age (young at heart). What a beast. 112,000 km. Needs some TLC to bring it up to superb condition but I am up for the task. Requires some engine fixes (cams and adjusters), transmission fixes which may be a rebuild or just a new wet clutch (MCT). Diff needs some attention too. Great video mate. Thanks from Perth, Western Austalia
Just a fabulous car with a magnificent engine! Had one for a couple of years and wish I had kept it. I replaced with an M5 which was a real disappointment in comparison. That cold start, once experienced is never forgotten!
As someone that bought a 2014 c63, absolutely love it. Had 50k miles on it. Has 120k now. Bought it 5 year's ago. Greatest motor ever from Mercedes IMO
Great video, Owned mine 11 years from new, I would never get rid of it. Few things to note - 2011 was the first year of the facelift - When mentioning the different models you forgot to mention the performance pack models which had the SLS internals and 477bhp. (Basically the same engine as the 507 and black series although they had different mapping)
Hey Phil, Thanks for the comment! Thank you for noting down that information, the performance pack sounds very interesting. Brilliant car and make sure you never sell yours!
The facelift bagan for the 2012 model year. Also 507, black series and the performance package all make 510hp on the dyno, they dont have different mapping mercedes lied to upsell.
Great review! Best all round model which is affordable with more power is the Performance Pack Plus (PPP). They have 487 hp (30 hp more than standard) with extra features. In between the normal spec and 507 but still reasonably priced. And has more interior options (e.g duotone nappa leather) than 507 oddly. Also has internals from the SLS. (PPP owner here so speaking from experience 😅)
Nice review; deffo one of the best sounding V8s. I love a 4 seat soft top, so spent some time searching for a CLK63 in 2020. Couple of things put me off: MB retired the CLK63 before the 2011 head bolt fix, and the M156 lacks low rev torque. Yeah - I know it's crazy to say a cross plane V8 lacks torque - but bear in mind that the M156 is short stroke and engineered to rev freely. Personally, I love Chevy's 6.2 V8 and it's monstrous low rev torque. So I ended up with a 2012 E500 Cabrio with the M278 4.7 TTV8. Stage 1 remap gives 800nm or 590 lb ft at 2000 revs. Had some exhaust work done too so I can really enjoy the V8 burble and roar with the roof down. Fuel economy is astounding for a 510bhp car; got 31.4mpg on a London/Nottm round trip the other weekend. In London traffic 14mpg....
Both the C63 and the E63, w204 and W212 are absolutely gorgeous cars and the M156 engine produces probably my favorite engine note. But as a BMW M lover I could never sell my F82 for any of them. I truly hope the rivalry between ///M and AMG continues so we can enjoy these cars which are probably the coolest cars ever.
Love the car so much , I bought one a few years ago and I'm never selling it. The M156 is probably the best sounding N/A engine ever!! Took the car on a road trip to the Tail of the Dragon and was an amazing experience. I'm going to be buried in it !!
Future classic. So much car for the money. Why shell out on lambos or Ferraris. I just sold my Z3M roadster & replaced it with a low mileage R231 SL500 in hyacinth red with cream leather. Not the AMG SL63 admittedly. But not much less power or performance. It's more than enough. In fact I'm in awe of it. The fact it takes an extra 200 or 300 milliseconds to reach the legal speed limit compared to the AMG is immaterial. 0 - 60 in 4.5 is fine with me. I'm loving it to bits. I considered an SLK55. But they're almost as expensive. A great little V8 roadster, but less car for the money. SLK55 £55k new. SL500 £85k new but only £3 or £4k more second hand for the SL. And it's an almost all aluminium engineering masterpiece
Great video. Last year I was considering either buying an E92 M3, a C63 AMG or an Audi RS4. The Audi had a great V8 and a really nice interior but put off by too much understeer so came down to the M3 or the C63 AMG and went for the M3 as available with a manual gearbox. This really was a golden age for this type of car and though their modern equivalents are faster they are nothing like as desirable.
Great video, i don't personally agree with the manual gearbox though. They did always put an automatic gearbox in their flagship luxury / sports cars and i think it's great because it's in their dna, it's in their history and tradition. A Mercedes-Benz first of all has to be a luxury car, then it can be also a sports car, a van, an offroader. If you wanted a manual transmission there were the M3 and the RS4 at the time.
I was torn between buying this car or the very rare 2005 CLK55, (5.4 litre hand built motor). I chose the CLK55 only because it's a simpler and more durable car, long term. Should I get this one too? That's the question, everytime I see this car. Thanks for the excellent review!
Slight correction The MCT is not a DCT,it's a conventional auto with a wet clutch pack in place of the torque converter. I love the W204 C63 coupé but I'd have the C63 Black Series but without the aero kit🤔
I still laugh at the sales guy at Mercedes trying to sell me on the new 2 litre’s ‘supplementary engine sounds’ via the speaker. My response ‘I guess some humans are fickle and adapt to anything 😂😂’. Love my c63. 🙏
Could u please elaborate a little why their a hassle to own ? Was thinking of trading up to one from my 09 E500 coupe to one of these would be grateful for your thoughts on this if you have previously owned one. With thanks
I kind of disagree on the interior quality of this gen. I had a 2012 W204 facelift and I was so disappointed with its rattles and creaks and general quality. It felt solid but had many rattles. My dad's W203 Facelift from 2004 had way less rattles and squeaks and better plastics. For me that was the peak. But this was a nice car nonetheless. I sold my 204 after 11 months and got a 212 E.

@Sideways_Singh im keepimg my eye on it maybe you are right. I paid 38k, and it had 39k miles. It truly is a special car. A 911 is the only thing within reason i would trade up for. Maybe an rs5, but i heard they are not as reliable.

Sounds mega and looks smart but with fuel prices and tax at where they are, it's simply uneconomical to daily drive. The purchase price is the beginning of a downward financial spiral. E92 is the same and it's hard to find a mint one as they attract 'interesting' owners.
If you want pure speed, just get an EV… if you want a mechanical masterpiece get an ICE performance car… Just like a watch, if you want to tell the time accurately, just get a digital watch…if you want a masterpiece get a mechanical watch.
Well given where the car industry seems to be heading, i bet these won't be driven much, they'd be preserved inside climate controlled garages if anything, considering how likely they are to appreciate :p

I have a c63 w204 now 2 years down the line and i don't think i will ever sell it. It gives me such a grin on my face every time I drive it .
I‘m driving a W204 C180 Kompressor, and imo this C63 is one of the most beautiful cars ever. Absolutely timeless design and incredible engine. Peak.

Well I picked the best one I could find on the internet so that’s a good compliment 😉

If you want pure speed, just get an EV… if you want a mechanical masterpiece get an ICE performance car…
Just like a watch, if you want to tell the time accurately, just get a digital watch…if you want a masterpiece get a mechanical watch.
The car to buy before I die ,Lexus LC 500 .
you are never late in a V8
True!
Possibly a future investment?🤷🏻♂️
Possibly!
Miss mine, inside started to become dated though.
That’s my worry in terms of getting one now
It has. But it still looks great!
Inside dated…and?
great car and engine, but the fuel inefficiency made it not suitable for daily drive, i had one for 5 years and sold it
That’s shame but even I don’t think I would fault drive one
Although they are perfect for a Sunday drive.
8-13mpg might be the killer..
Smiles per gallon, Paul
Don’t buy a 6.2 v8 if your worried about mpg 🫣😅
Well given where the car industry seems to be heading, i bet these won't be driven much, they'd be preserved inside climate controlled garages if anything, considering how likely they are to appreciate :p
I managed to get 32mpg in mine on a long run and have averaged 20mpg over 17,000 miles. They’re not as bad as people make them out to be! 😉
I got to the point in this video when you said about it being manual, wow 😂😂🤡🤡
I do own one btw
M113K is king
Unfortunately, Mercedes has never produced a good manual gearbox for any car they have made.
Apparently so and it’s a shame
