I've always loved these guys. They don't make it more complicated than it needs to be. And they bring in all the best parts of The Byrds, Beach Boys, fucking Bacharach(!) into this sweet distorted indierock sound. SO many perfect tunes. And an almost perfect setlist, but hey they need to play Neil Jung always :)
Fantastic! (pun sort-of intended...). This captured them as Francis was rejoining after 11 years. They sound really energized. And those God-like harmonies... 😎❤️🤘
Ive seen a lot of bands live but these guys, live at The Playroom, Gold Coast, Australia, were outstanding! Perfect power pop! Shakespeare would have been appreciative of their lyrics and musical genius!
The belters fae Bellshill, aka The Bellshill Byrds. Intriguing that in the interviewy bits here that Love seemed distant. Given that he was the first to split, makes sense. Life doesn’t lie. Crowd seemed strangely subdued as well here. ‘Here is a sunrise, ain’t that enough?’ So simple, so genius. ‘Sparky’s Dream’ ~ pop glory. There’s a reason why Cobain dug these dudes.
I was there. Lost my phone leaping around. The next day called it and a bloke answered, offered me it back for a tenner if I met him outside HMV on Oxford St. Went there and paid him, then back to the office on Gt Portland St.
It filled me with both joy and sadness seeing the Astoria at the beginning there, when the West End was still filthy and seedy and exciting, not the vast, homogenised, gentrified building site it was turned into by Soho Estates and Crossrail.
I miss Gerard Love on TFC. Genius.

Doesn’t get any better than listening to this magic band on any given day in life. Thanks so much for uploading.
Simply well written music.

I was at this gig and am thrilled to find out it was recorded! Great to relive memories of that gig and venue

Lol...thanks for the update. Losing a phone is never fun and 10's a small price to pay.
That's a feelgood story with a start, middle and end. Must've been a Nokia phone.
@@noisychamps certainly was a Nokia!
@@noisychamps feel good story? he had to pay to get his own property back. That's called a ransom!

Awesome set list. I love you guys.

Love, last two songs,
thanks...감사합니다

Pretty sure I was there though the TFC gigs definitely blend together with time. Definitely saw them at the Astoria though. RIP! F*$#ing Crossrail :(
Interesting use of the organ to add a full, droney kind of sound
When you dream that you awake in the 90's
BOP.
Some songs Love´s mic is too high. Anyway... best band ever.
Big shout out to the epitome of "bloke in the year 2000" on keys
...mind you, that's coming from "bit of a twat in the year 2000, till this very day" 2023
Ridiculous set list. On a TFC rotation break just now. Obviously not right now.
O up
