why is my needle not picking up the bobbin thread? I followed your directions for threading the bobbin and inserting it.i am delighted to find someone to help me with my machine, which was my grandmother's. And you are correct, it is an amazing workhorse.

You are welcome Mary. Its not the easiest thing to see or show. I had not seen a video on YT that showed it well and wondered if there might be an audience for just such a demonstration. I waited for just the right natural daylight and hoped the camera lens would pick it up. Glad it was helpful.

This was an excellent instructional video. We recently inherited one of these machines and the manual was no help at all. Nice, slow and clear instructions with clear images. thanks so much!

I have a WHITE 771177365 and the bobbin case broke at that extra layer thin part where you wind the thread. I simply cannot find one anywhere!! Nothing else fits..I've tried a few. Do you have a part that you can sell me? This is an antique machine that belonged to my mother-in-law and I do like it. It's a shame the bobbin case broke. Thank you for the excellent instruction, too!

Great video and explanation. Was wondering if you have a video on the Kenmore 117-959. Just purchased the bobbin case with bobbins but when I tried to use the machine, it would not bring up the thread from the bobbin. Is there a special needle size I need to use, or am I missing a part?

I have this machine also. I also am having issues with the top tension. I was trying to figure out how to get the tension assembly onto the little pin on the back. I really need to show a picture i took of a piece that i think fell out of the tension assembly. I am wondering if there is any way to take the tension assembley off.

I have this machine and I just love it! However, I’m having some issues with my thread tension, I need some help please! It appears my top tension is too loose, I’ve loosened the bottom as much as I can and tightened the top all the way and it’s still off. Any advice you can give would be wonderful! Thank you!

thanks so much for this video. i opened my Mom's white rotary machine (series 677) after having if for 8 years and am trying to make it work! we threaded the bobbin (thanks) but now the needle thread is binding up on the hook on the shuttle. this happens even without the bobbin in. any suggestions? the machine is in great shape, so i think this is just a minor issue....i'd love to be able to use the machine that i used as a kid and hope you can steer me in the right direction. thanks so much

My mother broke the bobbin case on her series 77 machine. I've checked everywhere and can't find a replacement. Any thoughts on where we can get one? Thanks for your series. She's 96 years old and looks to you for when she needs help. She keeps repairing her old machine and hasn't like a single one of the newer ones she's tried.

My bobbin case does not have that second layer on the top to thread through, the piece with the screw. It sews, but I can't adjust the tension. Where do I find a new bobbin case, or that little piece plus the screw?

Try searching this site and contact the seller if need be. These Rotary models made a few running changes over the many years they were in production; including the bobbin cases.

Hi, first of all thanks a lot for these very helpful videos, I learned so much thanks to this channel. I am currently restoring my very first vintage sewing machine, a White Electric Rotary Model 43. I was able to find online almost all the parts I need, but I'm having a hard time trying to find this specific type of bobbin case (the one used in this video). Any idea where I could find them? Or can they be replaced with an alternative/more recent type of bobbin case? Thanks for your advice!

If you're still in the CLT area, someone down around Monroe/Indian Trail had a Kenmore rotary on Craigslist a few weeks ago (end of February). Not sure if it's still listed, but it was under $100, and I believe it was a 117 model if I'm thinking of the right one.

I just was given a white series 77 and am going over it. I've cleaned and oiled it all the wheels in good working order. When I threaded it and wanted to try sewing it would not pick up the bobbin thread. Seems like maybe there is a timing problem between needle and bobbing ? Any ideas on what to try?

    • @natashareinhard4954

Hey I figured it out......Helps if you spin the hand wheel the correct direction. I am so used to going forward but then I watched one of your other videos and you mentioned the fly wheel goes the opposite direction ;) Turned it toward the back and yeah it picked up the bobbin thread.

Thanks for the handy video! I've got a white rotary, and have followed your directions for threading & inserting the bobbin, but the needle just isn't picking up the thread from the bobbin. Do you have any clues as to what might be going on?

    • @VintageSewingMachineGarage
      @VintageSewingMachineGarage  4 роки тому

Hi Alice. Its tough to know without seeing your machine in person, but a few things to check if you have not already. 1. Re-thread the bobbin case 2. Check to see that needle is inserted all the way up and in the right position. 3. Reminder to self that hand wheels on these machines rotate away from you, not towards you as almost all other machines do. Any of these or other troubleshooting could be the culprit though I have a suspicion it involves the bobbin case in some way.

@@VintageSewingMachineGarage Thanks for the reminder about the hand wheel rotating away! I couldn't figure out why the thread wasn't picking up either. This would be worth a video in itself, after the machine and bobbin are threaded to pick up the thread and start sewing.

I have a kenmore commander model 117.300 and am looking fir compatible bobbins. Are the bobbins similar for all 117.xxx series? Eg. 117.720

Hello Paul. Yes, the bobbins should be the same for both as well as the White branded versions of this machine design. There were other brands (private labeled like Kenmore) that they also fit.

I've been using my family's Domestic Sewing machine for 50 years and my mother used it for 20 years before me. It still works soooo well with the exception of the The smaller (rubber?) motor wheel, I don't know it's official name. It has been problematic for decades. It must have worn down after my mom used it for 20 years. We started wrapping it with masking tape to help it engage better with the stainless steel wheel. Well, now I think I want to get the real part. Any ideas how I can find this part? Thanks!

Hello. Yes, fortunately, because so many of these type machines were made in the past, reproduction parts are available. Try this source as they sell both sizes. Check with the seller to see which size best fits your model. Here is the link: sewingmachine221sale.bizland.com/store/page44.html
