Welp i've seen this happens multiple times already and they were all okay, it's just that a dream project can turn into a nightmare project really quickly when you are getting pressured by a ton of people on the internet...
Most of them feel bad with themselves for not being able to fulfill the expectations and ends up really stressed out about it, then they either abandon social media to work on the project alone, or just abandon the project entirely and release some steam with another hobby.
Yeah, nothing good comes when people are being such jerks with devs...

I actually remember back in the day leaving a nice comment to not let the swarms get to him he is doing amazing work mostly solo and that takes time it's done when it's done and if ends up not going through with it that's fine too I'd understand in those shoes he actually hearted that comment hopefully he's focusing on his mental health and living his best life

Stop the misinformation, Dani was burned out because of his fans high expectations and demand but he didn't stop he's working on a new game and IT TAKES TIME, he said Karlson is his dream game and he will definitely finish it one day. Yes Dani's community demanded Karlson, but Dani is the one who ALWAYS talked and brought up Karlson, this is just misinformation and it's annoying. Dani got threats but Dani still works on Karlson and he didn't quit UA-cam.

Accurate. I have about 3 comics lined up that I’ve been working on for years. This comment is the first time I’ve spoken about them outside of 4 specific friends. I’m eventually going to post them, but when I do, I want to have very specific boundaries for any community that may form (if you harass me or my family about it anything, I stop posting; if my community “cancels” or targets someone for something too small, I stop posting until it’s resolved; if the fandom gets too rabid, I make it bad on purpose; etc.) I know I’m probably being paranoid, but I’ve heard too many stories of creators or franchises getting hate for their community when the creator or series themselves aren’t that bad.
the best way to approach having an online platform is to turn off all notifs and have the will to not look at comments. ive had some of my works blow up online and gotten many death threats. honestly, being super detached from social media makes life much easier to manage. if random people's comments affect your mental health too much, you should avoid social media altogether.

@@jensenraylight8011 Respectfully disagree. The internet isn't real. The people you interact with on the internet are not real. They are not being their real selves, and most of what they say is only said because they are protected behind their screen.
They don't matter to your life. If you have a breakdown because of mean things people say on the internet, then you are a weak person or a masochist. Nobody is forcing you to read it, nobody is forcing you to be there or interact with them. Shut off the social media and move on with your life.
The internet is not your life. You don't live there, you don't have to engage with it, and so when you CHOOSE to do so, you get what you get and you deserve it for going and looking for it.
People suck in real life, why the hell would you think they would be any better in an anonymous place?
Lastly, being harassed in a place where you can just leave and never see that person again is a crime you visit on yourself. The person doing the "harassing" is entitled to do so, because free speech is a thing. You may not like what they have to say, but they are free to say it. Just like your free to block them or just ignore them... imagine.
Great example: There are going to be people who don't like what I have just posted. I don't care. I will never come back and look, I will never respond... because I have moved on with my life before I have even pressed enter and none of you are real to me. My life will go on unaffected by the words of the paper people in the interwebs. just like I assume that the people who don't like what I am saying will just ignore it and move on.
The system works when you don't act a fool and pretend the internet is a real place with real people. Focus on your real life, where you can punch someone who disrespects you, and where you can have a meaningful conversation with an actual person in real life.

@@ozhinz I mean that is just how the algorithm works if you don't have people watching it more than once on average then the algorithm is not going to push it and you aren't going to make money from it. And if they aren't making money from it then a lot of creators wouldn't be making content in the first place. Not because they don't want to make content, but because they wouldn't have the time to make content cause youtube wouldn't be paying the bills so they have to get another job.

Like I don't know what is so difficult about understanding that any passion project, hell, any project ever, takes actual time to be completed, refined over and over again before it takes shape and finally become ready to be presented to the world. It's not even the first time this has happened, every axed project be it a game, a manga, etc. were simply abandoned by their own creator due to their community's pressure.

I doubt most of the people asking were trying to apply presssure. They were asking because they were curious and wanted to know a release date.
But when you have thousands of people asking the same question, it can feel like pressure. No one is actually pressuring, but it’s a pressure to provide an answer to the question that you don’t have an answer to yet.
Best thing to do is just give a vague generic response and otherwise ignore the question. If you really want to all out, im sure there’s google chrome plug-ins you can use to permanently filter out specific content so if you wanted to you could remove everytime someone asks a specific question and you’d never see it.

It's possible he started to loathe working on the game because he knew the second he said anything, people would start it all over again. SO yeah, he was completely justified abandoning ya. He has no obligation to randos on the internet anyways. The only time he would have an obligation is if he released the game, and people bought it. THAT'S when he would have an obligation to work on it. Before then? nah.

He's currently working on some game. He's been working on it almost daily for the whole two years, at least he clais so. So whatever it is it will be a BANGER.
He's currently working on a different game and has been since his last video. He's released some small teasers for it on his discord and continually says that it's almost done although with a project this big it could still be a while. Personally I think he should take all the time he needs to do great work, and probably the reason it's taken so long is burnout and feature creep.

I never knew who Dani was until "Karlson" was mentioned (Found it on Steam). I thought it was another good indie game and I have been waiting patently for it. Until now I never heard of Dani or how popular he was. Now that his crazed fans drove him off makes it seem like it won't be finished. Which is seriously disappointing to me because it looked like a good game and I wanted to play it .I just hope he is working on in a workshop in the wilderness.
No kidding, look at TF2, that took like 15 years to be developed and look at the impact it created.

As a game dev myself, Some people dont appreciate the actual developers and legitimately think all game devving is simple.
The only reason i have EVER actually stopped liking a dev for how long it took for them to update was with bee swarm where it was a yearly update that took him 8 months (6 months after the deadline) despite it being the same thing with new quests and then releasing a sh**y update after 6 months
They really think gdscript is scratch 2.0
And people expect devs to work at light speed, specially from game with big companies behind. Forgetting that just because they have a triple A company doesn't mean they have infinite budget.
I do upload videos of games I’m working on to youtube, but they’re just short clips and I never actually try to edit it into an actual video, it’s just stuff that keeps people updated on my progress.
For that (probably), I never actually got a lot of views, and thank god for that. There’s times when I went on a month-long hiatus because of loss (don’t even THINK about it) and since everyone who really knew a lot about the games I work on are close friends, the support was enough to keep me going when I DID return, even I’m past a deadline I set for myself.
The difference between having a small community and a big community is staggering, and not just because of the numbers.
@@Coocoocrazy3 that's legit a roblox dev 💀, im pretty sure theyre like 17 when they started. And now they already found something better to do in life. Updating is probably just one of the things to show that they still care for a bit for the game. This is an assumption but like that's how it mostly goes for a roblox developer. They move on and roblox isn't even a good work to pay your goddamn bills.
I would say roblox is just for beginner developers looking to make a game and then move out to seek to develop some kind of indie game outside of roblox.

See what doesn't add up for me is I was playing Muck awhile back and had someone just force their way into my lobby and at first I was like ??? maybe guessed the code somehow and remade the lobby but then they joined again. So I said screw it and started it, the dude just started spawning a crap ton of furnaces and asked "do you like my game?" to which I said yeah and then he asked if I had wishlisted his upcoming game Karlson....
I still have no clue but I actually just assumed it was Dani since after checking out his channel for a bit it just kinda seemed like the somewhat shitposty kind of thing he would do, but now I'm unsure lol

It was so sad to me when this happened cause I was an original Dani fan who started watching him when he was in the early thousands of subs just cause I wanted to get better at coding and saw him as a random entertaining programmer who gave me useful tips. I was happy for him when he blew up so quickly and became the most popular programmer on UA-cam for a bit and when he stopped posting it really made me sad cause bro taught me a lot about programming.

I’m in the Danidev subreddit and people there have been posting images of milk until he returns. It has not worked yet.
Actually he posted a comment on his last video 2 weeks ago that he was working on something big. So he isn’t leaving soon at least. He’s always been notorious for not posting for years at a time and suddenly out of nowhere posting again.
I just hope he's alright, just taking time from social media and continuing his projects until he's ready to reveal it.

I didn’t know this happened, I was a huge Dani fan and was pretty sad when he stopped uploading, but just figured he was taking time to himself and maybe working on some other projects. The Karlson demo is still one of my favorite games ever and I really want to see the final product, but I couldn’t possibly imagine sending such a sincere, funny person threats over it.

fyi, he never abandoned his community. he went quiet to build up insane hype, also because he didnt want to make a devlog spoiling his game. also game development takes time. he is active on his discord server and shows no sign of quiting.

@redninja0078 it was a game that became overhyped, basically the next big game to surpass even minecraft but had a lackluster release on steam. Sad since the alpha of the game was better than the steam release.

he did delete a 69th video once, and commented on a video after he went dark for over a year and a half saying karlson was 90%, so who knows, he either is making the karlson release video the 69th video or is done with youtube and stuff altogether or coincidentally he is still working on the game but quit youtube after deleting his 69th video
I got into dani after he stopped uploading and didn’t realise until I’d watched all his videos and was waiting for the next post just to see that last one was 1 years ago and it was genuinely sad bc he was probably my favourite UA-camr at the time and made me want to go into game dev so i rlly do hope he’s alright ❤😭

Thats the thing about community. No one treats each other as humans as long as they’re an enemy. Especially developers.
Dani is a HUGE inspiration for me, got me into making games, and not feeling bad about making mistakes. He made one of my personal favorite indie games, and I really hope he makes more games in the future.
