Simple Fix For "Self Assigned IP " On Mac
IMPORTANT : This fix is preferably for users who share internet connection from Ethernet to Airport. This can work for any mac user as well but you're Ethernet MUST be working ! If not, You MUST have another working connection in order for this fix to work. If you have another working internet connection. Instead of clicking the " Ethernet" tab. Click the tab of the working connection and copy down that ip. Afterwards, the same steps apply as followed in the video.

This worked for me...my airport was using a self assigned IP, even though the airport was connected to my network. After about 3 hours total on the phone w/ my Internet Service Provider, calls to Apple and a visit to the Apple store....THIS worked!! Thank you so much!

thank you!!! i have had problems with the airport self-assigned IP thing for several years now. every time it happens i go online and do research and all i found was lots of complaints from others that there's no consistent fix for this; you just have to keep trying stuff and sooner or later it will flip back into useful mode. but you were never sure why or how. this solution worked the first time and i'm impressed. thanks!!!

I used your post to reset the auto settings when going through a router to those displayed when i was direct connect to the phone company Calix modem. It worked.

Wow that was it. I had to look at my iPad wifi info (which had no problems with the wifi) and copied the ip address there to the DHCP with manual address and that was it. Thanks. I searched for 3 hours and found your video.

Thank you. I had the same problem recently, first time ever. Out of just plain luck I decided to test the three foot ethernet cable between my network hub and MacBook Pro. I swapped the old cable out with a new and the SAIP was gone! I have working internet again.

Worked for me and I was able to connect my Mac internet connectivity(wifi) with my Samsung tablet over Bluetooth, which was earlier showing self assigned IP. Instead of copying the Ethernet IP address, I had to copy the WiFi IP address of my Mac and use it for the Bluetooth connection. Thank you

The only amendment I should make is that I had two IP addresses; I recognized this before I started, so I wrote down the first, noticing that it wasn't the typical self-assigned IP that I'd been seeing. (But even so, I still wasn't able to connect to the internet, even though it said I was connected.) anyway! Confusingness aside, point is it worked! Thanks again!!

Welp... that was easy enough. :D Just installed the Airport card in my 2009 Mac Pro (actually I installed it like 6yrs ago, but didn't realize I had to fish out those tiny little devil-wires which took about 30min to finally get plugged in just due to being so small and annoying), and had this issue. Fixed within about 2min of seeing the problem, coincidentally the same length of your video. Many thanks!
