    I met Hummel back in 2015 at Where Else bar on quarter beers night. He was kind of lonely looking being there by himself at like 5 in the afternoon, me and a friend went to talk to him for a minute about the current Purdue team. Asked about the chances of making a Final 4, he said "He liked this team and their chances". Little did we know it would take almost 10 more years of heartbreak to finally get where Hummel deserved to be. I was at the game yesterday and it felt like a full circle moment seeing his reaction after the game from the stands. So proud of our Boilers, BTFU from all fans of Purdue and Indiana state Basketball.

    Purdue and Zach finally got a chance to let off some boiler steam. This is two years of Edey soaking in haters stew and 44 years of Purdue having great teams but never seeing a final four. Give the kid a break. Weren’t you the one that said they should celebrate? Edey said he wanted a final four to pay Painter back for believing in him. Rick Barnes didn’t believe in him. I’ll bet he does now.

    I'm glad Purdue got their bad 3 point shooting game out of the way. I would wager they hit over 40 percent from 3 next game or two. Turnovers has been the Achilles heel for Purdue and any team at this level. I watched Rick Mount go against Lew Alcindor , aka Kahreem Abdul Jabar. I watched many a good players come through Purdue. Zach has improved every year. Zach is now in beast mode. This is without doubt the best , most talented, and bench depth I have seen.

      You may be right, people will probably down play Painter's role here. And as has been pointed out, those people don't know a lot about basketball. Painter saw potential and recruited him when Edey had only been playing ball for two or three years. Painter put together a coaching staff that could develop the talent. Painter built a training system to get the guy to a point where he could play 39.5 minutes in a high intensity game. Painter built a season long plan for how to maximize Edey's strengths and back it up with top tier plays from the rest of the team. Painter coached him on how to focus and channel his energy and not be a victim to the hate. So yeah, if you think a coach's job starts the day or two before a game and ends at the buzzer, then Painter isn't that great and he just let a 2x NPOY carry him.

TSJ and Knecht are obviously different but both have some significant physical advantages over Braden. I didn’t think Braden on TSJ would work as well as it did. Imo Painter was quick to adjust in this game once he saw the initial game plan didn’t work. Only 1 of the 5 calls were bad calls and I'm not sure any of them were "flops" (maybe one). I don't think he has flopped in any other games and hasn't got many charge calls either. And I totally agree on the game plan having Braden start on Knecht. Lance was the obvious option, though I think Heide did okay while he was in and only lost him in scramble mode.

    I’m not even saying I disagree. But I find it ironic in the preview you say you hope Edey shows more emotion and happiness post game. Then when he does, it’s too much.

    Greg i agree with the essential headhunting players is a worrysome turn in college basketball. I think Shaka Smart is very same cloth as Barnes. The Maui game was more of a hockey game than yesterday.

    You mentioned a record set by Edey of 120 points and 65 boards in the Tournament and how only 10 players have ever done that. Other than Bird (which you mentioned) who were the other 8.

    Say what you want about Fletcher “flopping” the Tennessee player 100% shoulder checked him and pushed him with his arm/elbow. It should have been a foul call.

    Greg is basically me here. Thank you for speaking such truth in this moment. Purdue fans are absolutely delusional with giddiness just barely making it to the FF in the most fortunate of manners. I've been a PU fan my entire life (39 years) and i get the excitement but the letting Knect getting hot early on and then after game cocky comments from players makes me extremely worried for achieving greatness with this season and not just accomplishing expectations and exercising demons.

    I agree 100% with everything you said lol. Lance was great when they finally realized Braden on knecht was stupid and he took the shot the others wouldn’t take which is what we needed. Also the flopping needs to stop.

  • @Incindium

    I thought Edey was gassed missing those free throws for the first time I've really seen him like that this season. Then he went down the court the next play and got that block. I guess if he was gassed it didn't matter.

  • @JB-gx4lg
    @JB-gx4lg 7 місяців тому

    At least a few of Knecht's early baskets were open because they were in scramble situations. Didn't have much to do with whoever the primary defender was. The only part of that rant that I'd agree with is that I wouldn't have put Braden on him because I'd want to keep him out of foul trouble. That said, if Jones had been on him I think he still has most of those early buckets anyway.

  • @robertbullard4266

    Greg,
    You are contextually wrong. The topic was why Edy had so much love for Paint is because he was the only coach that wanted him. Edy all other programs looked over including Barnes. Don't you think that is saying hey this is what you passed up?
    UCON is led by a certified pysch ward escape. Also they have Oscar winning floppers.

  • @Robmac1
    @Robmac1 7 місяців тому

    I don’t like the flops either, but UConn guards throw their heads back to flop on offense as much if not more than any team I have ever seen. If we wanna bring back the flop warnings I am all for it across the board.

    Good rant about anti-Edey people. They have absolutely taken over tiktok and other social media posts and really hate on him and his game and I don't understand why. Purdue is such a great story this year and people just act like they are the Yankees in the MLB.....

    Loyer flopped on that play, yes, but he was also fouled and it was a cheap shot too. If he doesn't flop, that probably gets called, so he drank his own poison in a way.

    Edey literally gave up two layups late to Knecht for free because he didn’t want to foul…I actually wanted to him go and contest them and foul because he only had 1 at the time and we had a foul to give before shooting 2…make Knecht scared to enter the paint…

    • @SteveMichael
      @SteveMichael 7 місяців тому +4

      You know the funny thing is I don't remember who won after a few years. I do remember great games though and some incredible performances. Honestly if you told me that Ucon won last year before this tournament started I wouldn't have known. Like who won 5 years ago? Who was in the final? Now do you remember Christian Laettner's turn around with just a few seconds left, for the win in the final four? I do and most of America does. I am a Purdue fan and yes I would remember a championship for the rest of my life, but if this is just a normal game, I suspect most of the nation won't remember in a year or two. Making a final 4 though does a lot for a coach. So congrats to Painter as this is well deserved. Anything else after this is just icing on the cake.

  • @katomatic_

    Can you blame them for flopping though? If it helps win games, they’d be stupid to not try right? It also helps get the crowd involved when they just see one of their players on the ground. I agree, as a fan, it is annoying. But you can’t blame them for trying.
