People are still going to downplay Painter's success because of Edey. Some will say making a Final Four with the back-to-back NPOY should be the expectation. He won't get the credit he deserves for identifying, recruiting, and developing that talent.
Only haters say that. You think UConn would be this good without Clingan? NC State without Barnes? Tennessee without Kinect? Illinois without Shannon? Northwestern without Boo. Every program has an all star they rely on heavily Zach is just the best of them.
You may be right, people will probably down play Painter's role here. And as has been pointed out, those people don't know a lot about basketball. Painter saw potential and recruited him when Edey had only been playing ball for two or three years. Painter put together a coaching staff that could develop the talent. Painter built a training system to get the guy to a point where he could play 39.5 minutes in a high intensity game. Painter built a season long plan for how to maximize Edey's strengths and back it up with top tier plays from the rest of the team. Painter coached him on how to focus and channel his energy and not be a victim to the hate. So yeah, if you think a coach's job starts the day or two before a game and ends at the buzzer, then Painter isn't that great and he just let a 2x NPOY carry him.
The only reason haters hate Zach Edey is because he is great. He is humble. He has only played 7 years of basketball. He is amazing. The thing with only 15 three pointers, Purdue wasn’t making them. How many teams have lost this tournament because they shot poorly from 3 but kept trying? I’m glad they only took 15
If Tennessee’s offensive linemen did what Ziegler did to Loyer it would be flagged as a chip block. Can’t go out of your way to create contact with a moving player.
Absolutely agree about Jones not being on Knecht from the start. I would love to hear someone grill Painter on that strategy. Jones was doing a great job denying the ball from Knecht in the second half.
Regarding the blantant fletcher flop, Coach Painter talked to fletch after it and looked like he was like you dont do that. Take that for what you will. Braden had a okay game, but he was also picking up the ball so early outside the three point line and needed to be bailed out a bunch.
What about Zeigler had three obvious flops where the PU players breathe on him. I don't get all the hype over this guy, as he didn't really have the great of the game.
Wouldn’t really say Fletcher no-showed in the first half. He led the charge on the comeback from being down 11. I think he had 6 of our first 8 on that run if I recall correctly
It’s easy to play Monday morning QB and say that, but he put Braden on TSJ in Champaign and it actually worked out well. TSJ and Knecht are obviously different but both have some significant physical advantages over Braden. I didn’t think Braden on TSJ would work as well as it did. Imo Painter was quick to adjust in this game once he saw the initial game plan didn’t work. Can’t really fault him too much for trying something different and something Tennessee likely wasn’t expecting.
Only Fletch "flops" and he does it way more than I care for. I think he has the reputation now and actually gets less calls because of it. You guys complained about Lance in the MSU game. Only 1 of the 5 calls were bad calls and I'm not sure any of them were "flops" (maybe one). I don't think he has flopped in any other games and hasn't got many charge calls either. And I totally agree on the game plan having Braden start on Knecht. Lance was the obvious option, though I think Heide did okay while he was in and only lost him in scramble mode.
I think Edey was emotional when he airballed that free throw. After that trip to the line I saw Mason go over to Edey and calm him down. A couple possessions later Zach makes the winning block
IU fan here. I am actually happy for Purdue and Painter. I hope they win the chip. There may not be any talk of IU has 5 chips and Purdue 0. Zach is the most dominant college player since Shaq. Wts I hope we beat them next year!
I’m not even saying I disagree. But I find it ironic in the preview you say you hope Edey shows more emotion and happiness post game. Then when he does, it’s too much.
Greg i agree with the essential headhunting players is a worrysome turn in college basketball. I think Shaka Smart is very same cloth as Barnes. The Maui game was more of a hockey game than yesterday.
You mentioned a record set by Edey of 120 points and 65 boards in the Tournament and how only 10 players have ever done that. Other than Bird (which you mentioned) who were the other 8.
Say what you want about Fletcher “flopping” the Tennessee player 100% shoulder checked him and pushed him with his arm/elbow. It should have been a foul call.
Greg is basically me here. Thank you for speaking such truth in this moment. Purdue fans are absolutely delusional with giddiness just barely making it to the FF in the most fortunate of manners. I've been a PU fan my entire life (39 years) and i get the excitement but the letting Knect getting hot early on and then after game cocky comments from players makes me extremely worried for achieving greatness with this season and not just accomplishing expectations and exercising demons.
I agree 100% with everything you said lol. Lance was great when they finally realized Braden on knecht was stupid and he took the shot the others wouldn’t take which is what we needed. Also the flopping needs to stop.
I thought Edey was gassed missing those free throws for the first time I've really seen him like that this season. Then he went down the court the next play and got that block. I guess if he was gassed it didn't matter.
At least a few of Knecht's early baskets were open because they were in scramble situations. Didn't have much to do with whoever the primary defender was. The only part of that rant that I'd agree with is that I wouldn't have put Braden on him because I'd want to keep him out of foul trouble. That said, if Jones had been on him I think he still has most of those early buckets anyway.
Greg, You are contextually wrong. The topic was why Edy had so much love for Paint is because he was the only coach that wanted him. Edy all other programs looked over including Barnes. Don't you think that is saying hey this is what you passed up? UCON is led by a certified pysch ward escape. Also they have Oscar winning floppers.
I don’t like the flops either, but UConn guards throw their heads back to flop on offense as much if not more than any team I have ever seen. If we wanna bring back the flop warnings I am all for it across the board.
Good rant about anti-Edey people. They have absolutely taken over tiktok and other social media posts and really hate on him and his game and I don't understand why. Purdue is such a great story this year and people just act like they are the Yankees in the MLB.....
Loyer flopped on that play, yes, but he was also fouled and it was a cheap shot too. If he doesn't flop, that probably gets called, so he drank his own poison in a way.
Stoked for the show, hopefully you record it and we can get genuine partisan Robbie and not professional Robbie. But what we really need to know is, where are the beers happening? I got Demons receipts to collect, Greg.
I thought the same thing Greg with smith guarding Knect it looked awful I know smith can jump like I used too but was just bad Go Lance and Lance hit the biggest shot in the game for Purdue.
Edey literally gave up two layups late to Knecht for free because he didn’t want to foul…I actually wanted to him go and contest them and foul because he only had 1 at the time and we had a foul to give before shooting 2…make Knecht scared to enter the paint…
Remember Edey played all but 32 seconds of the entire game!! Maybe he was a bit tired and that’s why he shot an air ball. Man was gettin hacked all game so yeah I’d be gettin tired of it too!
You know the funny thing is I don't remember who won after a few years. I do remember great games though and some incredible performances. Honestly if you told me that Ucon won last year before this tournament started I wouldn't have known. Like who won 5 years ago? Who was in the final? Now do you remember Christian Laettner's turn around with just a few seconds left, for the win in the final four? I do and most of America does. I am a Purdue fan and yes I would remember a championship for the rest of my life, but if this is just a normal game, I suspect most of the nation won't remember in a year or two. Making a final 4 though does a lot for a coach. So congrats to Painter as this is well deserved. Anything else after this is just icing on the cake.
Can you blame them for flopping though? If it helps win games, they’d be stupid to not try right? It also helps get the crowd involved when they just see one of their players on the ground. I agree, as a fan, it is annoying. But you can’t blame them for trying.

exactly, he will always be criticized
Yeah, kind of ignorant isn't it.
Greg i agree with the essential headhunting players is a worrysome turn in college basketball. I think Shaka Smart is very same cloth as Barnes. The Maui game was more of a hockey game than yesterday.
Cart,
You are right, my coach always said haters are just expressing their jealousy.
I think Zach feels somewhat vindicated after this win and the same goes for the rest of the team.
I think the sense of excitement will be gone after the likely and probable 20-30 point victory UCONN will have over Purdue.
Greg,
You are contextually wrong.
Edey played 39.5 mins. May explain the airball
Agree that it was insane to try and put Smith on Knecht.
Agree G. Should have put Heidi or Gillis on him
NC State will be the media darling from here on out. Everyone in the country will be rooting for them minus Purdue fans.
we need to get fletch on the gillis diet tbh
Zach said many coaches passed over on him. He was made the player he is, by the Purdue coaches!!!
Stoked for the show, hopefully you record it and we can get genuine partisan Robbie and not professional Robbie. But what we really need to know is, where are the beers happening? I got Demons receipts to collect, Greg.
Edey had an air ball because he was tired, he practically played the entire game
Ya…and Tennessee is exhausting they play so physical and ran 3 different dudes into him Knecht was also gassed you could tell
I've never heard one person comment on flopping. Everyone bitches about Edey.
Hey congrats! Hummel was a baby boiler when I was at Purdue and the only jersey I've ever known. Jealous and happy for you all
Did u all see where a bunch of players, including Karaban among others claim the NCAA ball has been overinflated making shooting terrible?
To be fair, I think that Cam Hiede actually did a great job against Dalton.
Big Z kicked their butts and they passed him over! Nothing sweeter than sweet victory for big Z and Painter! You all got whooped.
Congrats on the Hummel / Final Four opportunity! Prepare for the elite level of incoming hate that you guys are just Purdue homers.
I thought the same thing Greg with smith guarding Knect it looked awful I know smith can jump like I used too but was just bad Go Lance and Lance hit the biggest shot in the game for Purdue.
Lance did not flop in the Wisky game. Watch again. Just stop.
Back to Lance … those were chargers w exception of one. Agree w fletch take.
Edey shot like 400 free throws this year, airballs one. lol
Edey literally gave up two layups late to Knecht for free because he didn’t want to foul…I actually wanted to him go and contest them and foul because he only had 1 at the time and we had a foul to give before shooting 2…make Knecht scared to enter the paint…
now they can play loose. with the edge, smith and gillis still has that edge
Remember Edey played all but 32 seconds of the entire game!! Maybe he was a bit tired and that’s why he shot an air ball. Man was gettin hacked all game so yeah I’d be gettin tired of it too!
Purdue needs to win it all with Edey. It'll be tough. No one remembers who was in the Final Four or the runner-up. They remember who won it all.
