I have a 95 XE 5 speed with a 12" lift, solid front axel, and 35" tires (with some other minor mods). I love pulling up next to the newer ones and showing my stuff
The 1st gen is a tough little beast. I have a 1990 Pathfinder SE V6 Sport that has 51k original miles from AZ. No rust and a perfect compact 4X4. You can't get a rugged small 4X4 anymore. I'd buy it all over again.
Your Right Even the new Ford Bronco 4 door and 2 door are bigger then the original model I liked the short wheel base 4×4 2 door utility vehicles although seems like they are just making 4 door Crossovers now
The first and the third gen 💪... but truly and honestly, I love every generation before the 2013 model. 2013-2021 model just ruined the name and reputation of the pathfinder.
As somebody who drives one that's a manual? The automatic is lacking, my 145hp V6 5spd has the best offroad capabilities out of all the 90s SUVs and I stand by it, especially since it looks good doin it too!
dude, we have a 1991 model nissan terrano pathfinder up until now and it still run like monster on express ways and offroads. A reliable little monster that can do so many things and won't let you down.
The 5th gen is baby steps in the right direction. That 4th gen was basically a minivan without the sliding passenger doors. The 3rd gen is still my favorite of the Pathfinders. For offroading, I'd take that old 2nd gen over the 5th gen. If I want a family hauler that can go up to Tahoe in the snow for ski weekends, I'd take the 5th gen. I would *not* take that 5th gen offroad though. I would have no confidence in it surviving without expensive damage and some serious recovery efforts. "Pathfinder" hasn't been an appropriate name for the 4th and 5th gen, but I think people might recoil against a "Mallfinder" or "Soccerhauler" moniker. ;-)
Pretty sure the one in the video is a first gen not a second. Second gen is the first unibody pathfinder and is very comparable to jeep cherokees of the time, second gens are great, i actually own one, awesome offroaders still
Build the original pathfinder today with minor updates ie airbags/engine and you have a winner. The new one is nice but there are so many unibody midsize family haulers that another would not be missed.
Dudes. C'mon. You literally showed a photo of the _exact_ same 4-door old pathfinder while explaining that a 2-door existed, even though earlier in the video you clearly explained that the rear door handles are hidden. 2door had a triangle window.
You forgot about the rear glass window that opens up using the key on the original Pathfinder! I used this feature a lot when I had mine from 1997-2001. Can be used to easily carry lumber, surfboard or other lightweight things longer than the length of the truck.
Just sold my gen 1 '92 SEV6 4 door with 290k miles a month ago. Loved it! Bought a used gen 3, 2012 SV as I wanted the truck frame. So far I really enjoy the added interior room and of the '12.
On the '95, you have to put the transmission in neutral before you shift in and out of 4WD Low. Also, 1st gen over the new one. I have a 2000 Pathy with 4wd automatic and LOVE it.
I like the 2022 version because the one that we see on the video is not really off-road but there's different versions of 2022 off-road versions and it's more comfortable and you can put roof rails or roof racks if you're going to the beach that would be really fun so I like the 2022 and it looks comfortable as well
Technically the 2 door is the first gen. There was never a 2 door/four door option. Also the rear seat does recline in the wd21. Yes the auto trans is trash, yes the engine is VERY reliable. One thing to note, the wd21 interior is actually really well made. I have a 91 and the seats were in great shape in 2010 when I swapped them out. I now have the interior out pf a 94 and again other than being dirty it's in extremely good shape for 27 year old materials. To tears or cracks. Another thing to note is that they felt very under powered even with the V6 option. However I'm still running the original engine 30 years later. If I'm to be 100% honest I'm not a big fan of any nissan Pathfinder. Mine is heavily modified for rock crawling. It's definitely a unique platform for that and that's why I keep it. However I built it because I found a running and driving one for $500 and I wanted an smaller old school SUV. When comparing the WD21 to any of the other Pathfinder generations i'd stick with the WD21 because I don't see a point in having "4wheel drive" if it's not a real 4 wheel drive system and truly built to go offroad. The stock wd21 is actually an extremely good performer off road.
In my opinion the second generation was the best. Newer design than the first GEN which was designed in the 80s; and done long before Renault got ahold of the company
Had a 1990 4dr SE V6, first year of the four doors. It was all stock except for the BFG KOs on stock rims. Was my daily, camping, and trail (now called overlanding) vehicle. Backroads into and out of Death Valley and middle of nowhere Nevada ghost towns. Didn't need a select terrain dial, just pointed to where you wanted to go and it went.
Old vehicle were a great truck with the proper frame etc. Not as good on the higheay for roadtrips but functional. There is something to be said about mechanical actuated items vs electrical and computer aided traction/throttle etc.
I had a 1994 pathfinder that died off at 214k. It would have lasted longer but the mechanic i took it to joshed me around and i was young and decided to get rid of it. Still weekly makes me sad haha but one of the best vehicles ive ever had. I miss it soooo much. I wish i towed it home instead of junked it
WD21 FTW!!! I love mine, it’s been a dream car since I was in high school, I think it’s one of the most iconic SUV’s ever built! The new one is the best the Pathfinder has looked in a while, but it’s large, bloated, and pedestrian. They just don’t make em like they used to!
After having a serious accident 2+ years ago with a 1969 Ford Bronco, with retrofitted 3 point seat belts and a proper roll cage, vs having a similar accident in a 2021 F150 SuperCrew PowerBoost, I will take the new one, definitely. I hate texting drivers. Both drivers ran red lights and were distracted while texting. Both dangerous driving causing bodily harm charges and both guilty. I am still dealing with injuries from the first accident, basically will be for the rest of my life. The second one left me a little sore the next few days, that’s it. The first I was in a coma for 3 days, the second, they made me stay in the hospital overnight because of the lingering injuries from the first accident. Now I want airbags. I still drive my classic vehicles, even traded my 2020 GT500 for a 67 Chevelle SS 386 4 speed with very low miles and all of the history from the very beginning for the car. All original with all repairs done with GM parts. I got a 2015 Mustang GT Automatic as well that was mint and sold it to my cousin who had been looking for a cheaper car he could treat as a weekend show & shine car. The Mustang GT is mint with less than 17,000 miles on it. The cousin is very happy. I drive a 21 Ridgeline daily. Safest truck on the road!! The most comfortable as well. Keep a 21 F150 Lariat PowerBoost (the one replacing the one in the accident) for off-roading and heavy towing.
Old one still better. I want to buy the old one. I don't think the new one will look as good as the old one in 26 years. If ti even comes close to making it that far. The old one will still be running though.
We still have a 1992 model. 4 door 2 wheel drive. Yes it has the exhaust stud issue. Can't let go of it. Also have 2005 and 2011 models. That's right 3 of them. The 4.0 is a beast of an engine. The 3.0 in its day was no slouch either. All though the new models are unibody, body on frame gives more strength for towing ect. I do like the new design.
Have to say the old D21 based Pathfinder still wins in my book. Living in the country all my life I can tell you that washed out spring roads after run off can get ruts and squishy and the extra clearance on the old Pathfinder would be much nicer than scraping the bottom and high centering the new one.
I like the appearance of the new one, I don't like the lack of ground clearance and the fact the did away with the rear locker. It is good they went back to the aitomatic
No.. what you NEED to compare is the 2008 version with the 4.6 L V8 in the 4 wheel drive version. The torque in that vehicle was outstanding, it took us into the Ozarks without breaking a sweat, it's a HELL of a capable off-roader. The interior was cloth, not totally utilitarian for the time but certainly not plush either, but damn.. .it's the one to compare to every subsequent version IF doing more than driving through suburbia is what you're interested in doing with at least a decent interior comfort. BTW it had AMAZING acceleration. Ask the Audi S6 that couldn't get his entire car past me in a quarter mile.
I like the first gen Pathfinder. Now looking forward for the new generation waiting patiently for them hit showroom floors looks better than current generation now might look better in personal. So glad doesn't have a CVT anymore looks more bold and interior is nicer.
I have a 2012 Nissan Sentra S with over 220,000 miles on it. Never had an issue with the original CVT. I changed the fluid every 60,000 miles as required in the owner’s manual. Nissan is capable to be reliable as Toyota and Honda. You haters should learn how to read a manual and drive a car properly and you won’t have any problems long term.
To be fair and honest. The new one is also not a pathfinder . First they should bring back the body on frame chassis and stop making it larger and larger in design . They should make a pathfinder based on the first generation and also with the spare wheel mounted on the back with also 2 engine options , either a large 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder.
The new Pathfinder might be comfy, safe, pretty, and filled with technology but I like the old one better. One thing I can almost guarantee is you won't be seeing any 2022 Pathfinders in 2048. All that technology will crap out and it won't be worth fixing so most of them will be getting scrapped. The old school Pathfinder is simple, reliable, and you don't need expensive scan tools to work on them.
I never realized the cup holders in the old Pathfinder were that bad. Reminds me of the crappy ones in my old 525i. I'm sure there are better aftermarket cup holders for it.
I don’t really follow Nissan, but I always liked 1st Gen Pathfinders. Then they disappeared and became like a Highlander & the Xterra appeared a few years later. It always bugged me that they didn’t call that SUV the Pathfinder.
The WD21 can be built up and will outwheel a unibody R52/R53. The new pathfinders don't have a good approach or departure angle. Nissan really messed the pathfinder up. All that 'loaded' crap in the new one still won't get you unstuck when you get it and its lowprofile tires stuck in some snow, sand, mud, etc.
I vastly prefer those old square body designs on trucks compared to modern trucks. I'd never buy an old Nissan with an automatic transmission though; and frankly I'm not sure I'd buy a new one with an automatic transmission.
Prefer the older one hands down. Made to go off-road and explore. The newer one however, they could have made the new one much better and more aimed towards the 4X4 / camping community. It seems the new one is another mallfinder with slight off-road capability :(
New Zealand. Years ago we had two 1st Generation and both ended up as scrap. l found they were pretty bad overall with poor diesel economy (7K's/litre) being their main problems. Dismal power, head gasket, brake and gearbox issues plagued these vehicles which is why we now pay the Toyota tax. Our Pathfinder rusted on the door window sills (mild steel under the black vinyl is ss on other makes) and prone to rusting under the back seat. Chassis flexing with heavy usage sent many to scrap. The front doors were straight from the pickup version so they were huge and at the expense of the back doors (note the poor foot door access and the intrusion of the wheel arches in back). Seating in the back is poor and you can't get three adults in back seat due to the wheel arch intrusion. The back door handle is too high for small kids to reach and spare wheel heavily affects rear vision. The biggest problem was the fume intrusion into the interior and it appeared to come from the vents so it was quietly poisoning the occupants. Off road performance was surprisingly good with fresh tyres and its poor ground clearance wasn't as terrible as you would expect it to be. Would l buy another D21?..... never again, not while 4-runner/Surfs are still available, just pay the tax, its worth it. l am currently running a 1989 Surf and a 2007 Prado (both petrols) and these two trucks have been bullet proof compared to the Pathfinder/Terrano's On the strength of the Nissan Pathfinder track record over the last 35 years, l wouldn't risk a gen 5 Pathfinder..... no to both of these trucks but if given a free Pathfinder, then it would be a yes,,,,, free is always good with Nissan 4WD's
I appreciate your video's on talking about old school cars and trucks. But you really need to some research on the vehicles before you post your video's. You stated the 1995 pathfinder made at max 143 HP it made 153 HP. I owned a 1987 and a 1995 and never had trouble with timing belts or transmissions. The problem with the 1995 was a cylinder issue that Nissan sent bulletins to owners to have it fixed and they extended the warranty to 100,000 miles. If you did a little more research you might of found out about this but in your videos about this 1995 pathfinder you never stated this. Just a FYI. I really like your videos and by no way criticizing them. Over all very fun videos, brings back memories. Both my trucks neared 200,000 miles.
🤯 I have a 1994 Nissan Pathfinder XLT , BEST , I just replaced the original motor, how many miles you SAY, 1,823,556 MILES. The original motor is in good spikes and I'm rebuilding the original motor.. and it still has it's original transmission 👍
My father had a first gen when we were kids. Frame rusted through but went to the junkyard running and shifting great with over 300k miles!
He must of tooken good care of it
@@caleb7130 Yup, taught us all about vehicle maintenance with that old truck

Lol same, my dad had the 2 door version from 1989. Triangle window. That thing was a real trooper. Love the OG Pathfinder
This is super old but I got to 380k before the electronics failed on my pathfinder, it was my dad's before me. 1st gen, tough as nails.
My wife and I own 2 1993 pathfinders and 2 1995 pickups. Love then all. Seriously underrated vehicles

It´s a good compromise, better than the previous one. I´m sure there is a real offroader on the way called new X-Terra. ;)
The original is by far the best looking Pathfinder ever.
It looks cool, but I prefer the facelifted second generation.
The first and the third gen 💪... but truly and honestly, I love every generation before the 2013 model. 2013-2021 model just ruined the name and reputation of the pathfinder.

I never realized the cup holders in the old Pathfinder were that bad. Reminds me of the crappy ones in my old 525i. I'm sure there are better aftermarket cup holders for it.
The New Pathfinder..... "Nothing I need, everything I don't"....
Fun fact: both two door and four door wd21 pathfinders shared the same frame
Mine got stuck on 4 low also. Couldn’t get the shifter back up.
Can’t find the TFL drive impression. Is there one or yet to be posted?
I don’t really follow Nissan, but I always liked 1st Gen Pathfinders. Then they disappeared and became like a Highlander & the Xterra appeared a few years later. It always bugged me that they didn’t call that SUV the Pathfinder.
Even tho in the old days there were so few features BUT some buttons on the steering wheel.
The old one all the way!
There was a 2 door 4:22
Shows a picture of a 4 door instead
Man i had one of these in the philippines ours was a 1991 4 door and has the retro interiors but unfortunately we had to sell it
Prefer the older one hands down.
Would l buy another D21?..... never again, not while 4-runner/Surfs are still available, just pay the tax, its worth it. l am currently running a 1989 Surf and a 2007 Prado (both petrols) and these two trucks have been bullet proof compared to the Pathfinder/Terrano's
On the strength of the Nissan Pathfinder track record over the last 35 years, l wouldn't risk a gen 5 Pathfinder..... no to both of these trucks but if given a free Pathfinder, then it would be a yes,,,,, free is always good with Nissan 4WD's
The back seats in the wd21 pathfinder does recline just not as much
I appreciate your video's on talking about old school cars and trucks.
My 95 Path rear seats recline, maybe not as much but they do adjust
Everybody wants the 1st gen!!
I had a 94 Pathfinder SE 4.0L V6
I wouldn't be caught dead in that new one, or any past the vg33e R50.
He man i dont know if anyone will see this but. What years of pathfinders have a transmission that will fit in a 87 pathfinder?
Like body on.frame and back door handles higher on rear doors and old school 4 wheel drive with shift lever also boxey look
You gotta really push down to get in and out of 4 low. At least in my 97 pathfinder.
1st gen pathinder is by far the best, with the 3rd gen looking dang good right behind it. 5th gen is baby steps from the disaster that was the 4th
That looks like the Nissan X-Trail we get in Europe
If Nissan putting out this I wonder what the new infinity’s are gonna be like
old school because it was a "Pathfinder" not a "Mallfinder"
