  • After consecutively posting positive quarterly results for the first time in several years, Philippine Airlines remains optimistic about a highly profitable 2023 as demand for air travel soars. With an expectation for a profit-churning year, Philippine Airlines also expects to make a potential order for more widebodies in the following months. In today’s video, let’s look at what the airline has its eye on.

To me as a Filipino, it is a yes, because PAL is loyal to Airbus, all the more with a new order with that aircraft type would strengthen their relationship with the planemaker.

And plus, PAL's A350 flights are actually pretty good. I remembered riding on one when PAL used to occasionally dispatch it for their MNL-MEL-MNL flights.

@Tristan Samson i think PAL wouldn't launch their direct nonstop flights to Europe as route between Europe and Manila are low yield and not economically viable to operate it. Only time will tell if PAL want to resume their flights between Manila and London someday. In the past, most of European Airlines are struggling to serve Manila because of poor demand, instead the European Airlines choose to serve Bangkok and Singapore for Southeast Asian market as it have better P2P demand. If PAL really want the Airbus A350-1000, it's better to focus their operation to North America, Middle East and Southwest Pacific for long haul flight.

in the Philippines, most aircraft are airbus manufactured, and the a350 seems to be a really good fit, 100 percent sure they are getting the a350, and if they get a good deal may be the a330neos?

    • @CoSmicGoesRacing

The Neos are going to be a wise option for PAL especially that their A330ceos are used a lot and the neos wouldn't require much additional training. The A330 is the best fit for medium to long haul flights like to South Korea, Japan, and Australia.

With the sudden demand for long-haul travel, it would be great for PAL to go with the A350-1000. The -900s are actually great. Had the chance to fly on one MNL-MEL-MNL before the pandemic and it was spacious, quiet and comfortable.

I think the A359 fits PAL because it gives it the flexibility on thinner long-haul routes. I am surprised that PAL is deciding to set its sights on the A35K based on forecasts of profit. I think the a350-1000 is a good replacement and bad replacement for their older a350s because the Airbus a350-1000s simply outperforms the a350-900, but I hope they will not replace their B777 with it. I still do think they need the B777-300ER rather than the old A350-900. I say this because, B777 has better capacity and is much taller and longer than their A350s. Since they use planes for cargo as-well, I think height and length is an important factor especially for larger cargos. The A350-1000 even if it performs better (can fly farther than a350-900), and has more capacity and it’s longer than the A350-900 it is a 49M dollars difference from A350-900 to A350-1000 but in the other hand, it’s only a 9M dollar difference from the B777 so your opinion let me know by replying to me.

The range of the 300ER is shorter than the A350-1000. They could wait for the 777-8 and 777-9 but there is one problem, ehich is range. The 777-9 has more capacity but has less range (-3000km). In my opinion, Boeing 777x is a good replacement to their ageing Boeing 777-300ER. But knowing Boeing still have issues on their certifications of their 777x, and the late production once certified, PAL can't afford to wait for 777x. So A350-1000 is one of their better options despite that Boeing 777x is a better replacement to their Boeing aircraft.

Replacing old 777’s with the A350K is a good decision for PAL coz 777x is too big to fill for them. And if they really want to be more competitive and save a lot on costs, they should consider replacing their A330s with a more fuel efficient B787. B787-9 is perfect fit for their Middle East destinations. 787 has more range they can open routes new routes as far as Morocco.

They’ll more likely to order the A330neo.
Despite it’s lacking performance to the 787-9. It all comes to delivery slots, safety, and commonality. The A330 and A350 shares the same rating than the 787 and 777.

I have never heard such on a 787 flight, yet you claim the a330 is safer.

A need to reduce costs by increased fuel efficiency, in engine and airframe manufacture, plus increased comfort, when your competitors are offering that. Chinese workers are excellent automata, but as for design, forget it. Im sure that Comac will develop reasonable aircraft in the future, but their technology will be old school. When they compete with wide bodies, they might as well reverse engineer a B787 and A350, and when they've done that, both Boeing and Airbus will have moved on.
