    People are catching on. Don’t go to college to pay for a degree for a job that doesn’t exist or it’s not worth the time and effort.

    College and universities are expensive because they act like businesses that treat students like deep pocket customers, but they are supposed to be public services. And now, the US is having a shortage of highly educated professionals like doctors because of it!

      With regards to the part of your comment regarding doctors, this can mostly be explained by the ratio of students to seats in medical schools. Some schools have ratios as high as 320 to 1, putting the acceptance rate at some schools as low as 0.01% (this happened to Kaiser Permanente’s medical school).

    thank god for the 18 year old americans now who avoid going to college. They are smarter than me, a 39 year old man who has an undergrad, a master's and a pharmacy doctorate. They know that millenials like me were scammed into going to college and taking out huge amounts of loans with the promise of getting a high paying job. So many millenials have huge debts and no jobs and no way of paying back those loans. I am so proud of young people catching on to the higher education scam. Professors don't give a sh!t about your life and college executives only care about extorting all that money from naive 18 year olds. Karma is a b!tch!. 18 year olds are da bomb and so smart!

    As a college grad I know that a major hurdle for new students is the realization that they’ll have to go into debt. For their whole lives debt is seen as a bad thing to them, with many of their parents struggling to pay off things such as a car or house (especially after 2008) and getting into debt themselves, staying/getting out of debt often becomes a focus in the family. The national debt is also a huge talking point. So, they go to school to pursue their dreams but then they see the amount they owe go up and up. (Many people at that age haven’t been in debt at all until then). Many students get stressed by this and question if it’s even worth it, if the very idea of perusing their dreams is a bad plan compared to just chasing the bag. So, many drop out for that reason.

      Debt is one of the problem. Other is finding a job in their field. Truth is vast majority will end in jobs that is irrelevant to what they studied in school. College truly is a scam. UA-cam Peter Schiff College

    I hope this trend of young people refusing to go to college and go lesser expensive routes for career education at force predatory colleges to fold and force employers to look at other ways to determine one’s ability to perform a job as a condition of employment.

    It all depends on what you choose for a major. A recent study found that if you view college as an investment, the only majors that show a positive return on investment are STEM majors.

    • @othelliusmaximus
      @othelliusmaximus Рік тому +3

      Even that's dropping though. All my friends in engineering have a soul crushing amount of homework pay way more than me to go to expensive schools and most end up switching majors or dropping out. And the ones that make it still usually play cat and mouse with debt once they get out. Telling kids that really is just telling them the grass is greener. Education needs to be seen as that not a business investment.

    Colleges and universities across the board have dumbed down higher education to the point where a true liberal arts education and genuine critical thinking have become rarities.
    As for the high cost: for decades the colleges have been protected from market forces. Every time the federal and state governments raise financial aid and student loans, the colleges raise tuition. Why? Because they can, passing the exhorbitant costs onto the tax payer.
    Also, I've met bachelor's degree holders and even masters degree holders who are culturally illiterale and have, let's say, minimal English skills. Rather shocking, actually.

    Get rid of gov backing on all student loans causing inflation on higher education services.
    Right now best higher education advise I'm giving to my children is get skills not papers trade unions for da Boyz, art apprenticeship for the girls, then switch. Then you can create and produce not only fine products, but products that look dam good
