@@AC-LING666 In your opinion. But in mine, even winning in that game brought me no joy. Wow, Daigo gets points for everything. He wins, he's a hero. He loses "well, he just is beyond winning" Come on. Not to say that he's not an amazing player, he is. He'd kick my ass. But you got to put his talent in perspective
To be fair... Daigo has earned the right to get points for everything. He really IS the greatest of all time at Street Fighter. The fact is, people can beat him, but there will never be anyone better than him in the game. He has the respect of everybody in the FGC.
you think so? Idk man. Don't get me wrong, the man has put in work. alot of it. But to give him brownie points for losing? I can't cosign on that. He just didn't play his best, and he met some strong competition. Nothing against him, but thats just evo. saying he didn't want to win takes away all the hard work other people put in to train and beat him.
Cpointman417 I see where you're coming from... but at a certain point in EVO (typically the top 8), EVERYONE gets brownie points. Look at PR Balrog: he got tons of respect from the crowd even though he lost. Plus remember, the stuff said about Daigo is just from commentary, whose job it is to hype everything. They were exaggerating.
***** Your point is probably the most valid here. If Daigo didn't make top 8, I doub't there would have been ANY 'brownie points' for him. I mean, can you imagine if Daigo didn't make top 8? There would be carnage, people would be more likely to actually talk down about him rather than say things like 'he's beyond winning'. But at the end of the day, it's just the way it is. Better off forgetting about it and watching the tournament, no?
Basically, because the way that stage is, all the boxes, the red line in the middle etc. It means that the players will know exactly where their attacks will stop, the precise spacing on their moves. That kinda jazz.
They're playing on PS3. For some reason the PS3 version of the game has been said to have random lag issues. Using the training stage with less background "noise" in terms of graphics, reduces the possibility of lag interference with the game. Most players actually hate having to play on it because it's boring and the BGM is terrible, but its either that or possibly having dropped frames during the match. So they just tough it out and use the training stage.
Just so you know, the "five gods of fighting games" doesn't really refer to street fighter. In fact, sako and haitani were known as gods due to their vampire savior play.
Watching this after playing 6 makes you realise just how much faster this is. 6 is dead tbh there's no hype like this game, sf4 is the best fighting game ever made and this era was so amazing for fighting games.

Daigo is far beyond Infiltrator's skills. Its like he was throwing the fight or holding back for some reason. He destroyed Akuma countless times in championships before but he walked into each combo. He knows the counters, it must be muscle memory at this stage. I just don't know what to believe anymore.
Its like watching a real karate match compared to a fight in a movie. The movie is designed to be constant action and get you pumped up for the movie, whereas the actual fight is more about subtlety and skill.
Is Capcom do so much changes in Street Fighter 4 because i didn't expect a Gen player to be an Evo champion or his opponents doesn't know how to counter him?I thought Gen is a low tier character but Xian was very impressive with him.
Myg od this is the best tournament game of all time. If 3rd strijke came out now, it would probably be top. But this game, in its peak man what a sight. Guys doing these human combos. First, it's Daigo. Second, the guy's already won an EVO tourney before. That, and he plays who he likes. Mad respect for him playing who he wants to, instead of picking top tier.
nice to see Tokido's respect to Xien there at the end and in the ceremony. Also great win, I wish Sako would've taken it though :( PR Balrog was also just so impressive... as well as good ol Infiltration lol. full of great players

And... About Daigo: I believe that he is more like to a guy who wants to play with the character he loves most, than just win the tournament. He is better with Ken, but (I dont have his level... Far from it), but I like Ryu as well... And even with a lot better char, with more damage power, or potencial power to win another char, I would prefer to play and get fun... Well, thats it, for me
Well, the origin of the term is from Capcom originally calling Ryu/Ken as doing Shotokan karate. Funny part is, their style doesn't actually look like Shotokan, and in SF4 they officially changed it. The FGC calls anyone who has a "fireball" and "dragon punch" a shoto, even though in practice characters like Sakura don't play anything like Ryu. For that matter, the "DP" they call most special anti-airs is silly. It only properly applies to Shoryuken ... not KOF characters, etc.
There was plenty of Oni at this EVO and last year's. Look up the pool matches. Are you still living in 2011? That "Oni is banned" thing was a joke when AE first released in Japan.
Because it's more back and forth in ssfv. In marvel high level play, it's often a matter of who gets the first good hit confirm into a very long combo that more often that not kills a character. I touch = death. While very hype it's not as suspenseful as the nail biters in sf were one combo does not = death and anyone can make a comeback. Not to mention there is no op modifier in sf IE xfactor, so comebacks in sf are truly earned with outplaying your opponent while clinging to life. Love em both
I can see your point. But it was a comparison just between those two games. and while there were ultras you still had to hit confirm into an ultra for a set amount of damage. Thats very different than x factor which leads you into a combo that does double if not triple the damage it normally would just off of a light confirm. that's further augmented by the fact that you are relatively defenseless and have to guess a mixup when you other characters come in unlike SF. X factor is broken imo.
not only that plays like ryu, but looks like him or even have a similar move: dan, sean, evil ryu, and some people even consider gouken and oni as just variatons of shotos. But yeah, the main shotos are ryu and ken.
im sick of all these akuma players, hes gonna be nerfed really hard next update, no disrespect to tokido & infiltration, though they are excellent players but was happy to see a mokoto and hakan in top 8!!
Tell me if I'm wrong but in the Infiltration vs Daigo fight doesn't Akuma counter Ryu and Ken pretty well? Akuma has air hadoken and has a hadoken that can go against a enhanced hadoken from Ryu and Ken plus let's not forget about his phase through ability. Infiltration picked the perfect character to fight against Ryu, Akuma counters him pretty good.
DM Diamond Akuma is still easily one of the best characters in the game. His life being lower is a balancing factor, but it's not enough considering Akuma's toolset and ability to do a few different strategies very well.
Except Akuma's rushdown is retarded. His resets are hard to predict and get him easily the same damage on Ryu without even using his ultra. He can zone better with his aerial fireballs, and can punish jumping with Raging Demon, which does too much damage. Just follow the actual match between a great Akuma and Ryu. Ryu loses ground because Akuma can do everything he does, at the cost of needing to be more on point. But matches like Infiltration vs Daigo at the last EVO show that Akuma owns that matchup if he can avoid being caught out.
Josh Won ryu has better footsies than akuma? do you even play any of those characters to make that claim? akuma has godly walkspeed, a safe sweep that leads into crazy vortex AND he can keep up with ryu's fireball game...how exactly does this mean that ryu wins the ground game?
Basically that ^ I don't see why people are having trouble swallowing this. Akuma (at least in tournaments) is one of the most trafficked characters, and for good reason, while Ryu is less so, for the aforementioned reasons.
E. Ryu isn't a *bad* character, but he's stuck in this weird middle ground between lacking Akuma's offensive tools and Ryu's health. The only thing he really has over either is raw damage output, but Akuma can still easily compensate for that with his oppressive vortex, while Ryu can still do decent damage without sacrificing the health he needs to last in long term battles.
Cpointman417 I feel you completely on that. I agree that daigo is an amazing player but when he loses I expect it to be just as if someone else loses. Not an excuse. They always make an excuse for him
a player has "momentum" when (for example) he won the first round of a match with a perfect. the second round will start in favor of the player getting the perfect, because player B is most likely discouraged after getting such a beat down in round 1. you could say that momentum is the mental battle between players. every player strives to get some momentum on their side, because once you managed to overwhelm players, those players will start doing more and more mistakes, because they're in a situation where it's not easy to keep cool and make smart decisions.
Looks like SF4 is now dominated by ultra fast characters masters of pokes and chips followed by ultras. Of course, the players are super skilled but the matches lack, relatively speaking, depths and dimensions. I'm glad that Daigo sticks with Ryu. The "older" and slower characters are much more fun to watch. Daigo is like Roger Federer in tennis. Roger may not be the best anymore against younger opponents who are faster and have more powerful shots (and playing on slowed down surfaces) but his elegant and multi-dimensional tennis is often more fun to watch.
Josh Won Dude, ryu's dash/walk speed are among the slowest in game. I tottaly understabnd what dysonlu is saying. Ryu doesnt have these fancy shmancy vortexes, and fancy tech. The characters ability is in direct correlation to the players skill. If hes doing good, it means you are good. Nuff said !
i guess shotos are characters that have a fireball, uppercut, or tornado kick. dan, sakura. goki, i can recall from top of my head. some of friends consider sagat to be a shoto but i think generally he is not to most people.
The buttons are more laid out properly for a fighting game, you have the punches next to each other above the kicks. Where on a normal pad you have more spread out buttons. Another preference thing but still good

you could say that momentum is the mental battle between players. every player strives to get some momentum on their side, because once you managed to overwhelm players, those players will start doing more and more mistakes, because they're in a situation where it's not easy to keep cool and make smart decisions.
Amazing bags in his trick
Holy crap, Xian is a freaking BEAST. Gen ftw.

Dude, ryu's dash/walk speed are among the slowest in game. I tottaly understabnd what dysonlu is saying. Ryu doesnt have these fancy shmancy vortexes, and fancy tech. The characters ability is in direct correlation to the players skill. If hes doing good, it means you are good. Nuff said !
That was awesome that for the upload
wasn't the concept of the Ultra-Combo originally designed to be a comeback-mechanic?

40:22 the hard read dash through 😱
i guess shotos are characters that have a fireball, uppercut, or tornado kick. dan, sakura. goki, i can recall from top of my head. some of friends consider sagat to be a shoto but i think generally he is not to most people.
When ever akuma does hard knock down , the fun begins
godlike for posting this spooky......
Can someone tell me what's amazing about this gamme. I'm not dissing it I'm just wondering what the pros are doing
is evil ryu a costume or another character?
Wow these guys play this really well , what system this for ?
They played on PS3 last year, but they're moving to 360 this year. It's also on PC. And in arcades, if you can find one.
thats true, but tiers dont work like that. they just rank which character would be on top at the highest level of play
what is the advantage of the arcade style game pad?
The buttons are more laid out properly for a fighting game, you have the punches next to each other above the kicks. Where on a normal pad you have more spread out buttons. Another preference thing but still good
watch every other EVO top 8 to find that just about every fighting game is taken as seriously
