3 Train Afternoon at the Plant City Diamonds

- On a random Sunday this early March, I made a run to Plant City’s train viewing platform to meet with a friend of mine, Danny. We hadn’t seen eachother in a while beforehand, so we planned to get together for an afternoon this Sunday trackside. That said, there’s no story or crazy timeline for this video, just a compilation of the action we saw that afternoon. It was quite interesting, so I figured it was worth a quick video. That, and people tend to like rail videos from this town, so I figured somebody could find some enjoyment in this one.
4:36, it would appear that CSX turned the power around as I saw the same train a few days earlier but 9477 lead.

Another track replacement project? Didn't they just replace the diamond last August?
The Diamond was replaced in August 2019. That replacement didn’t include the rails and ties surrounding. Either way, they’ve actually mostly completed the replacements by now, and they only replaced the outer rail on the curve, and then a handful of ties along it as well.

I think that wobble is coming from the track just before the Diamond, which is likely a result of empty space beneath the ties. The work they’ve been doing will push more ballast up underneath the track, which should fix that issue.

Yeah, you’d be surprised just how much of that we see down here with those unit trains. We’ve actually got two more on the way at the moment, both with Norfolk Southern in the consist.
