The one thing that always got me about Mr. DeNiro's performance in this movie was that while his character was cool, calm and collected you still knew right away that he wasn't one to be crossed.

His character in this movie is better because he is the muscle with more muscle loyal to him! In Casino he was too weak and his muscle turned on him. I guess Wayne Gro turned on him as well but he got him in the end at a very high cost!

20 years back after friends have told me to watch this movie I wasnt to impressed when they explained the story to me. When I watched it, I found it one of the best movies ever made. The director did s phenomenal job, the actors just were crazy good. It indeed is impressing to make a movie like this.
I guess when the story is explained out literally it kinda sounds like a generic action movie. I remember thinking it was a good movie but that was about it. Over time I came to appreciate the depth and grittiness, and now I think it's my favorite film.

agree, i actually dont like this part, its uncharacteristic to deniros role, deniro is too smart of a character to make sloppy mistakes, 1st mistake, he tells the guy he is gong to kill him in the restaurant before walking outside with the guy, 2nd mistake is he looked away from the guy he was pointing his gun at when he already had his guys be the look out. 3rd mistake is he looked away from the target while pointing a gun at him. its a well acted scene of course but unrealistic to the character

Vincent Lim i would have to disagree with that. In goodfellas he played Jimmy Burke who was a total pyscho in real life. He killed everyone that linked him to the Lufthansa heist plus many others that really didnt deserve it. In heat he was very loyal to his crew and didnt like killing neone unless it was absolutely necessary.

I loaned my Heat dvd to a co-worker to watch. She said she'd never really had any interest in movies like this before. Well, her house burnt down. After telling her how sorry I was for her loss and asked her if everyone was ok, my next question puzzled her. I asked her did she include my Heat dvd in her claim? This movie is and always will be a classic.
It was THIS. THIS movie, that De Niro was certified as one of the greatest actors in history, if not THE greatest. This was his Everest. After this, he would turn from the lean and mean boss we all get chills from watching to a funny, endearing old man in comedy movies.
I'm in awe of Pacino body of work (mostly 70's), he is a tremendous actor, but in this particular fliq DeNiro swept him the fuck away. DeNiro is the 100% character (Neil McCauley) when Pacino is smooth talking jive Pacino guy of the late 90's.

Trejo was a character added in late in casting and Danny Trejo was originally hired to be a robbery consultant on the film as he knew the in and outs with being a criminal himself in his younger days and had served hard time at Folsom. Danny got the role of Trejo when director Michael Mann spotted him on set and had him meet with the other actors playing the criminals De Niro, Kilmer, Sizemore and John Voight along with Kevin Gage. After the meeting where he gave the actors and Director insight into life of a criminal Danny Trejo landed the role of Trejo.
Plot hole. DeNiro and his crew just walk out without paying for their meals. In real life, some feisty waitress would’ve bolted out the door after them.
A masterpiece of casting. Everyone in this scene is spot on. Even with heavyweights like DeNiro and Kilmer and Sizemore, you’ve got Kevin Gage just owning the part of Waingro- loudmouth, sociopathic loser with too much to prove.
I agree. Why would Neil not have his foot on Waingros chest? Why are all three of them looking at the cop car? Come on, put yourself in that situation - no way Waingro would have escaped.
Neil should have escaped with Eady, and wait a couple of years before coming back and going after Waingro. Although it would be a pain in the butt for Neil to find Waingro, Neil is obviously very resourceful and probably would have pulled it off.
Neil is (quite understandably) very pissed towards Waengro, there was no reason to shoot the guards in cold blood. Now they have a murder charge hanging over them- as well as armed robbery .They'll throw the key away !!!!

I found this to be the most unrealistic moment in the entire film. McCauley is so thorough and fearless, how in the world would he not feel Waingro slip away from between his feet? I don't believe they were paralyzed in fear from that passing cop car, nor do I believe Waingro is that fast and slick like Houdini. Always bothered me, as when you're physically fighting someone you're almost attached to them. Waingro indeed did not get attached to anything he wasn't willing to slither away from in 3 seconds flat, once he spotted the heat around the corner.
When this movie came out on video to rent I was 16 and worked at a grocery store that rented videos, Heat was so long it was on two vhs cassettes, screwed up the whole movie drawer.
