As a solid color, this seems to work better than OD green, which is not surprising . Deer ,wolves, other woodland animals are all various shades of brown and tan, not green.
You do know that most animals don’t see the color spectrum humans do... and green mammals don’t exist. OD isn’t straight green. It’s a Neutral / Green blend. Humans see *_green_* very well. It’s a stark contrast. When humans are _”Color Blind”_ it’s overwhelmingly the inability to see green. If you _can’t_ see green, then it will be very difficult to distinguish anything contrasted against it. That’s why being color blind _(not able to see greens)_ usually means visual acuity problems. That’s why OD isn’t green, and it’s not neutral. A neutral will stand out against a green background, and green will stand out against a neutral background.
As with any camouflage, it works well if there is some cover to hide behind or in, to help break up your outline, casting shadows and reflecting light in various ways. But without such cover, using only one colour head to toe makes the human shape easily recognisable in all but near ideal conditions. You could wear bright pink romper suit, but if you hide behind a bush, crouched in shadow with your head and limbs tucked in, you'll be hidden to all but the most determined observers. 😁
Coyote tan is hard to beat. It reflects the surrounding colors better than any other color I've seen. With a few leaves or twigs to beak up the outline, it would be almost undetectable. Coyote tan seems to be the best base color for any camo used in a woodland environment.
If someone were to design a dichromatic pattern with Coyote Tan & OD green as the only two colors, basing it off of the Yugo M68 pattern, it would create a crude, but highly affordable and efficient pattern to arm the working class with.
@@cortex8239 helikon tek is a well known company if you go look at their swagman roll poncho they sell it in a adaptive green. That’s the color he’s talking about.
I've watched all your camo videos back to back, and Coyote works the best to my eyes. I've never liked the color by itself, always thinking it was just a trend. But now seeing it in action, it has my attention.
after watching both parts of this color's test, it is damn surprising how well it works. the few times i was able to spot the position in both videos, it simply came down to shape identification rather than the color. also, how in the world do you avoid becoming a meal for every insect out there?
I wonder if you could do a video with a multi camouflage outfit like od green chest rig may be a tan top and multi pants just for example I wonder can they all work together or would it stand out??
Wow, just like others have said, this is waay more effective than I thought it'd be. Great to see these kinds of effectiveness videos since I would rather not be decked out in full camo, glad to see I won't be any more visible than if I was wearing actual camo.
Wow what a great video! I am shocked how well Coyote Tan does. The first time you hid I had no idea where you were until you moved. Only once I knew what kind of outline and shade to look for you were easy to spot, but unbeknownst you wouldn't even be noticed at all.
Way better than I would have assumed. Sitting here watching this thinking, "I bet it would be even better with some OD green smudged all over". Oh, ya, that's just about describes the A-TACS AU camo.
Against the green, the tan looks nearly white. The lower you got, the more effective it was. When you were in or near the dead grass, it was much more effective.
Thank you for posting this! I have two coyote tan packs. One that I use for a first-aid kit and the second, I bought for bush-craft/camping trips. I’m not in the military. But, I like the military style packs due to the space and durability. It’s neat knowing how well it works in the bush as well as desert/beach locations. I might just stick with that cammo if I buy more stuff. Clothing and other stuff I can use for bush-craft outings.
In the Dutch army, almost everything (backpacks, plate carriers, webbing, softshell jackets cold weather snuggpacks and large parts of the rifles, are now in coyote tan. It works great together with Dutch DPM and works in almost every environment. Even in snow combined with a white jacket.
Not bad. In the first several shoots it seemed effective. The last several shots in the heavy greens, it was "fairly easy" to spot you if your looking. This comes from someone with untrained skills in detection. Thanks for doing the shoot. A request, I'd like to see the A-TACS using in mixed pairs of AU and FG to see the effectiveness of using both together in certain situations. Example: A-TACS AU shirt with FG paints. Thanks again!
Nice some of the guys here in NZ use it. Very effective. 1846 the Corps of Guides used Khaki in India by the 1890's the entire British Army was using the stuff. Might be onto something.
I took this to Ukraine, did alot of research before going abd this was the video that made me choose coyote over mtp and the ukie ucp, and ucp coyote, the plain coyote kit did me good in trench and recon, you essentially saved my life 20/60 left alive, NGU, working in donbass, svoboda bat
I'm impressed how well Cody works in green environments I guess it makes sense since deer are pretty much the same color i like these types videos and they are kinda fun trying to spot you Thanks for information and entertainment
Moved from a southern environment to a northern one, so most of my cammies are green based and only work for limited time. So I've decided to go to either Tibetan tarn or Type 07 Digital Highland Desert Camo. This vid reinforces my conviction to do so.
I found out the effectiveness of coyote tan after leaving a coyote tan paracord bracelet on my couch which is o.d. Coyote tan seems to reflect or absorb other colors.
While Coyote Tan isn't the most effective camo, it's still effective. The beauty of it was well is you can also blend with the civilian populist and not draw much attention. Thank you for doing this test!
Hell yeah, even by the end of this video when my uniform was starting to get covered in mud it was dulling down the color which I think made it better.
neil castell The Reciprocity teams in the Clear and Present Danger novel used plain khaki and it was mentioned that a few days in the jungle would get it stained enough to blend perfectly.
I feel like even though the forest has alot of green, it's mostly up high. Tan works so great for animals and humans because they are lower to the ground. Where dirt, dead grass, tree trunks, and fallen leaves are. A lot if brown colors. This tan seemed much more effective than green camos. it's also a lighter color Wich would naturally reflect more light, but not to the point of drawing attention to the eye. Glad I saw this before buying OD everything lol
If any of you guys are looking for a very good late spring, summer and early autumn camoflauge, you should try the swedish m90, it's very effective, especially in the northern parts of the world.
This color seems to take on a greenish hue or reflect the colors that are around it. Works rather well. Wonder how well it would work if it had some type of disruptive pattern on it. ASAT is supposed to work that way...
Very effective! However, I would recommend sewing on some tan colored bungees along the arms, legs, and cap. So that you could stuff some foliage onto the uniform. That will help break up your outline. During this test. I was able to spot you via your outline. As an added bonus. That uniform would be effective against night vision. Thermal don’t know.
maybe in the future man, I gotta get my hands on some first. There is someone that suggested a page on here already to pick some up. I'll check it out and see how much it will run me. In the mean time you can watch my USMC P42 camo video, the pattern is very similar to Auscam.
Great Vid...preformed better than expected. but what about combining solid colours for a camo solution like using CT pants and OD top or vice versa to break up and blend more. and just for fun what about foliage green
That might be something to think about during this time of the year. Right now the grass in most of the woods I film this in are turning tan while the leaves on the trees and bushes are still green. CT trousers with an OD jacket would probably be pretty good combo particularly if you're going to be on the move and your primarily going to be either standing or taking a knee.
In many cases in this video and the last, I was able to tell where you were, just not confirm what you were (that rock/clump of plant material looks off...I guess I will watch to be sure...) In most cases where foliage broke up the outline, or you hid in shadows, I could not see you at all until you moved. The size of a human is a dead give away with our lanky hanging arms, as are the sharp angles of the chin and cheeks, brim of the hat, and collar. Good use of local foliage on gear and hat and I think Coyote Tan might be the perfect solid color! Be the log!!! I wonder how well a mesh cloak in this color would perform?
This color surprised me- I actually think it was better than the OD color. You'd have been able to ambush anyone well within range of detecting you. Cool vid. Nice job. Semper Fi.
Thanks for posting, I have really been looking forward to this one. Coyote tan was pretty effective at a distance and that's were it really counts but to be honest if I were fighting in a lush green environment and I had to choose between CT and OD I would definitely go with OD.
Yeah, for this I would go with OD as well. I think the thing to note though is it did a fairly good job. So it kicked ass in the fall/winter and was pretty good during the spring/summer. OD wouldn't preform as well in the fall/winter so I think the Marine Corps made a good choice in using this color for its flacks/gear.
***** the thing about tan though is thats what most wild animals in the wilderness are colored so it just kinda makes sense it would work in virtually any environment
true but bears are brown they like to hide in green environments like in a shady area of vegetation area is were its hard to see because brown dont reflect as much as any green in shady dark area of green vegetation
A color called “Adaptive Green” or “Crocodile” (Arcteryx name) is probably the best single color for effectiveness across multiple environments. It solves Ranger Green’s problem of sometimes being too dark.
7:01... I was getting a bit salty like, "Man, move already! The Coyote tan is definitely a superior color with multiple terrain uses, at least visually. I have watched several of your camo/concealment videos now. I am a hunter and as my camo gear wears out…I am replacing it with muted solid colors. I turkey hunted in solids this year and killed a bird and don’t believe my lack of camo caused any problems. With your extensive testing…which solid color works best in most environments? These coyote tan videos have been so vindicating. I've concluded long ago that coyote tan is the best do-all camo color. Exceptions being areas covered in snow most of the year. For the rest of the planet, I really do think coyote tan is the best camo color to have, if you can only have one.
I hope you eventually do a video with that new "storm grey" color from 5.11. It's more for police and urban but it would be interesting to see how it would work if you got stuck in the woods.
Great video and love how you work the different styles and patterns. Works best in the distance and in the shadows. My friend uses it to hunt and I stay true to the tiger stripe which is the best of both worlds. Thanks again for all you do!
way better then I thought it would do in a green surrounding. Now get that a little dirty and that is better then some patterned camos. Brent, have your thought of trying Ranger Green/Foliage?
Bruh, screw looking for the perfect camouflage. I'm getting my gear in this color from now on. I think this worked better here than in the fall. It might be that the fallen leaves created micro patterns that made your body look like an identifiable blob.

I need HELP for choosing a color on my 5.11 rush 24 back pack which is better Multi cam or OD green I live on the eastern shore I want something that is gonna be not see able at night and good at blending in. Thanks :) it also comes in sandstone
Hey Brent just a question where did u get your dessert tiger stripe clothes the ones I'm looking to get seems to bright and vibrant to me there the tru specs brand. But I say tiger stripe is the best there is
***** OK thx it just didn't look like the camo u had In the video. And very good videos keep it up I'd like to see some ghillie suits and some realtree camo for hunting deer and stuff.
I know I've probably mentioned this on another video, but have you considered doing a video on SADF nutria brown? You can find them on ebay right now and they're generally fairly cheap. Check out the seller OldRepublicEnterprises. They usually have a bunch of those for sale.
albmartinez314 I've gotta tighten the belt on purchasing patterns right now. I probably won't be doing that uniform anytime soon if at all. I only tell you this because I don't want to give you false hope that I'll one day feature the uniform in video.
As a solid color, this seems to work better than OD green, which is not surprising . Deer ,wolves, other woodland animals are all various shades of brown and tan, not green.
+Aaron Munn that's a good point.
+Aaron Munn Thats the point ! Most of the colors in nature are tans and browns.
+Sen Seo tan reflects whatever color nearby ASAT video
That's because hair doesn't come in that color. A lot of animals like reptiles, amphibians, and fish developed green as camouflage.
You do know that most animals don’t see the color spectrum humans do... and green mammals don’t exist.

Ha..... I cover myself in OFF deep woods.
The insects can't see him.
I passed big game animals in South Africa by 5 meters without noticed them until they moved. Tan is a great camo
I'm not surprised at how effective plain tan is, remember, the first camo used by a modern military was the khaki adopted by the british late 1800"s
In the 1860s there was a union sharpshooter brigade that wore all green uniforms and cloaks.
Tan is still the color worn on safaris
Brent,
Great job on all your camouflage effectiveness videos. They are very helpful, when trying to choose a pattern.

This is what a UPS Men's discolored uniform looks like after so many washes and after too much exposure to the sunlight 😆 great video 👍🇺🇸
I really like how it sort of absorbs the shadows. Thanks for the hard work on these videos!

Looks like coyote brown or tan would would equally as good in urban environments too. Good camo for rural and urban areas.
see the point of staying in the shadows. nice video by the way.
Surprisingly effective, I thought you'd pop out more than you did. :)
I concur, I thought the same thing.

Kal El Thanks brother.
I'm curious if the development of this as a base was influenced by the SADF "Nutria" uniform as a brown/tan base.
I use to have a dark tabby and a tan tabby. I could never believe it, but that street-cone orange tabby was impossible to find at times.

wow CT done better than I thought it would.
Oddly coyote is working better in the summer than the winter like in your other video. To me at least.
Whilst wearing earbuds I nearly swatted my face when that mosquito flew by the camera at about the two minute mark
Good Stuff Gunny! Hope you are doing well!
Thanks brother, S/F

Thanks for watching brother.
way better then I thought it would do in a green surrounding. Now get that a little dirty and that is better then some patterned camos.
Brent, have your thought of trying Ranger Green/Foliage?
Thanks man, I did a video with OD already. That's probably as close as i'm going to get in making a video with Ranger Green/Foliage.
Been looking all over for coyote tan bdu’s.
Where do you get them.
Would be great for police work.
Especially, in the texhoma area.
meanwhile the gardener thinks we are being invaded while he's weed whacking
Desert Storm Chocolate Chip camo pants would be good idea. And a Shade Darker tan equipment
wow, i watched all ur videos and i have to say say that coyote tan works the best, i could not see you anywhere, amazing Tan huh.
Not bad for a solid color huh. The Marine Corps uses Coyote tan on all its common gear i.e. flacks, packs, watch caps, etc.
Bruh, screw looking for the perfect camouflage. I'm getting my gear in this color from now on.
I think this worked better here than in the fall. It might be that the fallen leaves created micro patterns that made your body look like an identifiable blob.
Any plans to test Ranger Green? Can't find any videos doing that for some reason...
It is definitely better in the spring than the winter
Coyote tan works well...would caution that an unpainted weapon will give you away every time. Great job as always....KAG 2020
I'm 10 years late.
How about Coyote Brown with an Olive Drab netting/veil over it?
How the classic red and black flannel with blue jeans, during a late fall hunt?
God bless you brother and U.S.Marine.
When I went to the Marine Corps in 1991 I remember that I saw this movie in M.E.P.S. Called Heartbreak Bridge the the main character was called Gunnery Sergeant Highway, you do have those kind of features like Clint Eastwood as Gunny Highway.God Bless ,and just reminiscing.

I did not think it would be as affective as it was . i shal buy
I dont know if it's because I'm color blind or not but I easily spotted him every scene but one.
...are you colorblind? Might wanna get that checked chief
Outstanding series
Thanks man.
Brent do you have any plans to mix patterns? Like say woodland bdus with coyote brown (tan) ppe?
I need HELP for choosing a color on my 5.11 rush 24 back pack which is better Multi cam or OD green I live on the eastern shore I want something that is gonna be not see able at night and good at blending in. Thanks :) it also comes in sandstone
good old Khaki ! does the job..
But isn't the Tan army guy usually the bad guy when playing with plastic army men?
Video fills as if your on watch just waiting for movement
What about mixing solid colors. OD uniform with coyote battle rattle and boonie.
How close in color is this to Khaki? Looks pretty similar.
Makes sense why the marines use this for all their gear.
Hey Brent just a question where did u get your dessert tiger stripe clothes the ones I'm looking to get seems to bright and vibrant to me there the tru specs brand. But I say tiger stripe is the best there is
Tru-Spec I believe is the only brand that carries the pattern and that is what I have. shop.vtarmynavy.com/categories.aspx?Keyword=desert+tiger
***** OK thx it just didn't look like the camo u had In the video. And very good videos keep it up I'd like to see some ghillie suits and some realtree camo for hunting deer and stuff.
stuff would work great out here in the dry deserts of California
I know I've probably mentioned this on another video, but have you considered doing a video on SADF nutria brown? You can find them on ebay right now and they're generally fairly cheap. Check out the seller OldRepublicEnterprises. They usually have a bunch of those for sale.
albmartinez314 I've gotta tighten the belt on purchasing patterns right now. I probably won't be doing that uniform anytime soon if at all. I only tell you this because I don't want to give you false hope that I'll one day feature the uniform in video.
What belly rig are you using here? Good job as always bro.
Thanks brother, it's a Tac-Force rig, I don't think they make it anymore.
Very effective 👍🏻
Is this better than Ranger Green for any enviroment?
