Resulting in England possibly never growing and becoming a superpower. 2. Spain defeating Portugal in the War of Portuguese Restoration, maintaining the Iberian Union and the portuguese colonies and portugal under the spanish thumb. 3. Spain somehow keeping some colonies in america or colonizing and focusing more it's goals on Africa before the conference of berlin. Mainly in the western region of Africa since they we're colonizing the cameroon before germany got cameroon instead. This way, spain would have more influence in the african region. 4. Spain winning the Spanish-american war or atleast losing but less fatally so that spain can atleast maintain puerto rico and the philipines and maybe some more lands in america rather than losing everything. 5. Spain joining the Entente in WW1 and focusing on getting the German Cameroon, German Papua new guina and maybe other german colonies in the treaty of Versailles. It's not possible for Spain to join the war in the side of germany since this would possibly result in spain losing the war alongside the central powers so it would be more reasonable if spain adopted the same instance as Italy. Spain also depended on Britain and france on trades. But if somehow the central powers win with spain since this would make france focus on 2 fronts in europe and weaken it's position in the german front then spain could have also gained lands. But to be fair, Spain was still recovering from the Spanish-american war and had a relatively weak military. 6. The house of Wittelsbach inheriting the Spanish Throne. If you don't know, there was a child named Joseph Ferdinand of Bavaria who was the nephew of Charles II of Spain, and because of not being a Habsburg nor a Bourbon, he ended up being the successor of Charles II, until he died of smallpox when he was six. If the child survived... Things could've CHANGED a lot.

I love your videos they're such a vibe! Watching a well-thought out and researched alt-history video with some classical music in the background is just amazing. Wonderful content.
My personal thoughts on this: 1) Louis-Napoléon early life may be improved a bit, but his ultimate rise to power must remain unchanged Winning the first presidential election of the Second Republic (1848) and becoming Emperor through a soft coup d'état (1851) was an ideal scenario for a stable rule. However, his first two uprisings (1836 & 1840) were not. I’d argue that his first uprising should be kept, as it spread his name to the public and led him being exiled in London (very formative years). But the second one was a major failure and should be scraped, sparing him 6 years of detention that could be put to better use. Instead of rotting in prison, he should develop his networks and work on himself. Easy points could be scored by him getting Louis-Napoléon closer to Victor Hugo and Alexandre Dumas. Both writers were approachable: each were sons of Napoleonic Era generals, Hugo admired Napoléon and Dumas already had personal ties with the Bonaparte family. They don’t need to become his best friends, but having two legendary French writers in his inner epistolary circles would benefit his image greatly in the long run.
2) Napoléon III must marry princess Adelheid of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, Queen Victoria's half-niece. This attempt failed historically because Napoléon III rushed it: there was uncertainty about the durability of his reign, and Victoria had apprehensions toward Napoleon III’s character (I highly recommend reading her 2nd May 1855 memorandum on the subject). Some of these personal aspects would have already been addressed here: Louis-Napoleon does not break his word by attempting a second uprising against the monarchy (he had to swear to abstain from it after each attempt, and Victoria therefore saw him as an oath breaker), and instead of being in prison he could’ve have worked on his character and education a bit (Victoria saw him as great man, but lacking the education and mannerism of previous French monarchs). All in all, I think that it could have worked out, had Napoleon waited a few more month to ask for Ada’s hand, right before the Crimea war and the Franco-British alliance. 3) Keep the good work in internal affairs. Napoleon III is highly underrated. His focus on modernizing the national infrastructure and the economy paid off historically. It was not perfect, but his rule was surprisingly stable as he switched from Prince President to “socialist” Emperor. Have him be more subtle about censorship and authoritarianism... and things are pretty much settled IMHO.
4) When it comes to diplomacy and war: keep the initial successes and fix the failure that came at end of his reign. The Crimean war, Second Opium War, Cochinchina campaign and 1859 Italy Campaign were major successes. Not much to change here: avoid useless sanitary casualties in Crimea, don’t burn the Summer Palace in China, do not get tangled up too long in Indochina. All the later conflicts ended poorly and need to be revised. The intervention in Mexico was a disaster. It should be avoided altogether, or have Maximilian I quickly asserting his rule. Ideally putting him a weak but manageable position that would not require France spending further resources in Mexico. The French expedition to Korea was quite inconsequential, but instead of a French setback, it could have been a quick and easy punitive expedition (given the proper means to achieve it). It goes without saying, but the Franco-Prussian war should be avoided at all cost. Catholic southern Germans should never be given a reason to side with Prussia. There’s probably a move to in Austria-Prussia Bruderkrieg’s to avoid Bismark from achieving his goals before that, but that's a hard one to handle.
@@BrianYabin It's highly dependent about the conclusion the intervention in Mexico intervention and Bruderkrieg... Discarding these very complex issues that deserve a proper video, I guess that the best scenario would have Prussia simply unable to oppose the sale of Luxembourg. France could count on Austrian Habsburgs fully committed to oppose Prussia and support France (grateful for Maximilian I of Mexico?), and good relations with the British crown could ensure neutrality or potential agreement for a the sale, as it was consented by both parties directly involved. A good alternative would be to have Luxembourg ceded to Belgium. The Belgian King still won't agree to give part of Wallonia to France in exchange (as it was proposed historically), but it's a nice middle-ground. It would be an opportunity to get Luxembourg out of German influence, and with potentially strong british support that could even lead Belgian Luxemburg leaving the Zollverein in the process (or somewhere down the line). If any of the two previous scenario end up with Prussia declaring war on France, there is arguably room for a military victory. France wouldn't necessarily be seen as the aggressor (especially in the second scenario) and the participation of the south German States is not guaranteed (even more so if there were prior Austrian shenanigans). If things go well, Luxemburg would be out of Prussia grasp (taken by France or Belgium & out of Zollverein), Prussia leadership in Germany would be greatly diminished and France would take Saarland back as the cherry on the cake.
The funny moustache man himself had been one of those aforementioned "German elements" who didn't like the Slavic majority in Austria's half. He made a big deal about Austria being his homeland during the Anschluss in 1938 but it was all just pretty talk, he'd abandoned Austria for Germany well before his rise the power.
I hope you mean the Papal States? Vatican City refers to the microstate entity that was established in 1929, there's seriously not enough to make a Perfect video for them.
A cool scenario would be would be "what if germany turned to democracy" in which germany turned to a constitutional democracy sometime before ww1. It's the only scenario I can think of where germany and britain can actually ally without germany immediatly betraying them.
It does by the end of WW1, Romania gets everything that it could've asked for with Transylvania from Hungary, Dobruja from Bulgaria, and they still have Moldova. Only things we could change is more stable domestic politics and find a way for them to stay alive during WW2
it really is difficult to imagine to have it somewhat realistic. 1. The PLC had a system where every noble could veto any decision, leading to severe political gridlock. 2. Russia would never allow PLC to reform, as they held great Interest in their territories.
@xJuliian 1. If the Liberum Veto was never implemented the Commonwealth could have a greater sejm and more fair reforms could have been created. 2.Poland Lithuania could have used the Russians times of trouble to create a strong russian ally and accepted their conditions : such as Russia being protestant instead Of Catholic and that the kings son would rule the Tsardom.
@xJuliian It's possible, for example if we make Zygmunt III push for just majority vote after winning over Zebrzydowski's rebellion and not just back down, then somehow not allow Chmielnicki's messages to arrive in time to the 1648 election. Also the Liberum Veto wasn't really a problem after 1764, after then the Familia along with the King started using confederated sejms, during which Liberum Veto didn't apply (but the problem was still Russia)
POSSIBLE HISTORY, I am currently apart of a Model UN Historical Committee on the Paris Peace Conference, a decision that I suggested and was agreed upon is that instead of Poland gaining Danzig and the Polish Corridor, the Polish enter a union with the new Lithuanian Republic, giving Poland a coast and Lithuania a stronger military. I believe this may be a interesting topic as it presents less ammunition for Germany and a potentially stronger Poland
6:54 “What if Hungary joined the Entente” seems too unrealistic for a full video Because Hungary would have to do it between about January to May 1915 since after that the Germans started to push back the Russians, leading to most of the Hungarian crown to back the war If Hungary had enough time to mobilise for the Entente at that point it’s hard for them to just not back the initial war leading to Austria just never declaring war on Serbia for risk of breaking the 2 crown system and World War 1 never starting at all!
I'd say the first scenario would be better for Hungary as I believe Croatia and Romania would be considered central powers (Romania if they joined Central Powers of course), meaning Hungary could get all of transylvania, southern slovakia, ethnically Hungarian parts of Banat, and possibly a strip of land from Croatia to allow them sea access, the rest of Croatia would be ceded to Serbia as recompensation (including Zadar), Slovenia would also become as an autounomous part of Hungary (as an indepentent Slovenia would be at risk of losing it to Austria very quickly). I am not a historian and I didnt do any research so I might be totally wrong, but based off of what you said in this video, I think thats the most likely outcome of the first scenario.
If Hungary doesn't get most of Croatia then I think an Italian protectorate over Slovenia is a possibility. Either to compensate for not having Zadar, or to set Italy up for continued opposition to Austria (and potentially Germany after an Anschluss), or just to keep them opposed to Serbia's ambition of Yugoslavia.
Regarding your second scenario: A lot depends on *how* Hungary declares its independence. The Entente would likely not accept Hungary keeping Franz Joseph as a common monarch. At best another Habsburg would have to take the throne, but it is just as likely that republicanism prevailed and Hungary declared its independence as a Republic. In that case Croatia by default would be left to become independent and join Yugoslavia as the whole Croatian-Hungarian partnership was based on the personal union of the monarch. This much was understood even when the Republic was declared in 1848. And I seriously doubt that the majority Slovak, Serb and Romanian areas would have been left alone. Even if no territory was ceded, I could easily imagine the Entente pushing Hungary to become some sort of federal republic, giving autonomy to these regions. Another pretty solid prediction is the Russian revolution. I think that even if the war ends a whole year earlier and even if we don't have the treaty of Brest-Litowsk, things were so severe in Russia that revolution would still take place. Perhaps the civil war would have been longer but the Bolsheviks coming out on top is still a great possibility. The complete division of Anatolia also seems a little iffy, but Turkey absolutely would not have its modern borders.
Transylvania: If you look at it yes, territorially the romanians have more land but in 1910 most cities(Cluj, Oradea, Targu Mures, Seben) had hungarian or german majority, sometimes plurality. Rural areas had more romanians in it. Its like the us electoral map by county: red with blue dots, still about 50-50. In my opinion a just treaty would be to give the North to Hungary along with Szeklerland(roughly the 1940 treaty) considering ethnic lines back then. This is the soultion that gets the maximal amount of hungarians in Hungary and romanians in Romania
If Hungary aims to keep control over that connecting Romanian region of Transylvania, they would need to be the bigger man and adopt a federal model of governance where that region has autonomy from the central government in Budapest. One of Romania's biggest political flaws is their unbending adherence to a unitary governance model that doesn't allow autonomy for minority regions like the Hungarian Transylvanians. It's a big reason why minority regions within Moldova's own federal framework are so opposed to unity with Romania, they rightly fear that Romania will not allow their continued autonomy. I can guarantee, if Budapest were to foolishly enforce full governmental control over a non-Hungarian region then said region will become what the Sudetenland was to Czechoslovakia: A tool for the national socialist German regime with which to engineer Hungary's downfall. Romania could lured into the Axis powers even easier if the Bessarabia and South Dobruja losses could be compensated with the remainder of their beloved Transylvania.
A few video ideas: What if the natives were more resistent of european diseases (allowing for a stronger native position at the start of discovery of the new world) What if everything went perfect for austria/ austria-hungary (specifically after the napoleonic wars instead of the habsburgs) What if everything went perfect for yuguslavia (i always found it ironic that ww1 was pretty much caused cuz the south slavs wanted to be united only for yuguslavia to break apart so violently) What if everything went perfect during decolonization (what uf during the process of decolonisation most/all former colonies were liberated in good positions for growth and stability) What if britania didnt rule the waves (what if the british didnt have the best navy, they might still have a good navy but one still possibly rivaled by other powers) What if novgorod survived What if charlemagne hadnt been crowned emperor (maybe his relationship with the pope werent as good or maybe the bizzantines kept a male emperor instead of an empress or maybe the popes relation with constantinople was better idk) What if the prussians had lost the franco-prussian war What if britain became a republic during the 1800s What if attaturk was even more sucessful What if the mensheviks got power in russia instead of the bolsheviks What if the iberian marriage (the union between catille and aragon) was between castille and portugal What if the protestant reformation failed What if the great schism didnt happen What if everything went perfect for bolivia What if south america was a land of "giants" (meaning that many large countries existed like peru-bolivia, gran colombia, brazil, a big argentina of some king etc) What if russia was able to stay a democracy after the fall of the ussr What if the republic of central america survived What if the US was unable to create dictatorships in latin america (every coup failed or was met with a lot of international backlash etc) What if rome hadnt converted to christianity What if there was no third century crisis What if everything went perfect for the dutch
Wouldnt austria have perfomed better in the first scenario? As the army would be more organized and loyal, and thanks to the autonomy given to the minorities the empire and economy would be in better shape
Hungary was never a positive to that Empire. Obstructionists from start to finish that never pulled their weight that antagonized every single minority.
I've really enjoyed this video I've thought about this scenario before and I am glad that you've finally made a video about it. The few things I take issue with is a lack of focus on the internal politics of Hungary post-World War I. I would have been curious wether Horthy still comes to power or would have the absence of the communists prevented his rise to power. I also would have liked to know the fate of the minorities in Hungary in the second scenario. Would Hungary adapt a federal model or would they try the French way of centralisation and harsh assimilation? Having Croatia become part of Hungary after the war is - while not unthinkable - is still pretty tricky, since the Kingdom of Croatia was technically never an integral part of Hungary. Ever since 1102, the King of Coatia and the King of Hungary were always the same person but the two realms were only united in 1867 as the two components of a larger entity called the Lands of the Crown of Saint Stephen, which while was technically Hungary, Croats could - with concept of Hrvatsko državno pravo (Croatian state right) still argue that since they were never technically part of Hungary, they should be treated as such, by being in a personal union with, but separate from Hungary, like they have been since 1102. Which would make Horthy the Regent of both Hungary and Croatia. This could also benefit Hungary. Not having Croatia be part of Hungary would reduce the number of non-Hungarians in Hungary and instead of wasting resources to integrate and subjugate them, they could establish them as a Hungarian ally in the Balkans, closely bound together through a personal union. But then again as I said before, Croatia becoming integral Hungarian land is still possible given that this is what a lot of Hungarian nationalists wanted during Austria-Hungary. I also doubt that Hungary would ever want to annex Bosnia. Sure, the Banate of Bosnia was a Hungarian crownland once, but that was in the Middle Ages when ethnic identity didn't matter much. I'm a hundred percent certain that any post-war Hungarian government would not dare to annex any significant territoy for the same reason Austria-Hungary didn't want to annex anything, to prevent Hungarians becoming a minority in their own country. However they would most definately try to establish Bosnia as a puppet or buffer state. The only annexing that I can imagine are - in a hypothetical war against Serbia - Dalmatia (not directly into Hungary, but Croatia in personal union with Hungary) and the city of Belgrade itself. Belgrade holds an important place in Hungarian historiography and national mythos as Nándorfehérvár, the place where the Hungarians led by Regent John Hunyadi successfully defended the city besieged by the Ottomans in 1456. Anway I hope you have a wonderful day my favourite Dutchman. Also, 25:23 when and which Russian prince did they want to give the Bohemian Crown? I'm pretty sure this happened, but I would really appreciate it if you told me since I tried and failed to try and find the information myself. Love, from Hungary
So one issue I found with the basis of the whole scenario, is the party of independance and 48 actually governing. You see in the dual monarchy era Hungary wasn't a full democracy, and whilst elections were held, and opposition existed, it was unofficially agreed upon that only the liberal party can form a government. In 1906 like you mentioned the party of independence won the election, but after that the kaiser actually ordered the dissolution of the parlament, and named a German military governor to lead Hungary and put down revolts for a few years. Soooo in reality the party of independence could never come to power trough normal means, like you mention. Not in 1906 and not in 1910. Othervise great video!
18:47 Germany was Hungary's biggest trading partner in OUR timeline, as a consequence of the Little Entente (the alliance against former Central Powers, as you mentioned), members of these nations put HEAVY tariffs on Hungary (if not outright embargoed it). And sicne Hungary was a landlocked nation ofc. Germany and Austria is made up the wast majority of trade as a result of this (by virtue of this two nations beeing the ONLY neighbors who very even willing to talk with Hungary). BUT in this scenario its not true anymore, hence assuming the same economic dependency on Germany is also a BIG assumption based on nothing... Hungary would VERY LIKELY still side with the axis, i might add, but its gonna be for purely irrendentist reasons, not economic...
On the other hand, the experience of Austria responding to Hungary's independence with war and another military occupation, one which had German backing mind you, may make opposition to Germany a sheer principle for interwar Hungary. Maybe even enough for Germany to make Transylvania-related promises to Romania.
I think when it comes to ww2 in the first scenario Hungary would join the war with Poland since Hungary and Poland are historic major allies and even were during ww2 of our timeline
It's largely done in alternate history just to facilitate Russian expansion into Western Galicia without getting Britain mad at them. And of course, you know it'll only exist until Polish autonomy stops being "convenient" for Russia.

Up
So basically, if Spain was still relevant.
@@britannicgeneral7460 Yes, you might also consider Spain as "The British empire before the British Empire". Alot of countries lost they're relevance like the portuguese empire, swedish empire, otoman empire and the dutch empire.
Basically - what if Spain had a competent government with a contemporary Dutch or English philosophy and civil service in regards to the economy.
Because if they could transfer two continents worth of gold and silver (literal mountains of both) into proper economic and industrial development in Iberia...
Then atop that, have them take over the hapsburgs entirely, creating a near universal monarchy. That's Europe and the Americas under one banner.
@@thebutterflycomposer7130 that's smart, and i didn't even knew 100% of all that.

Suggestion; What if everything went perfectly For Napoleón III? 🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷
My personal thoughts on this:
1) Louis-Napoléon early life may be improved a bit, but his ultimate rise to power must remain unchanged
Winning the first presidential election of the Second Republic (1848) and becoming Emperor through a soft coup d'état (1851) was an ideal scenario for a stable rule.
@JohnRandoSmith How do you think Napoleon III in this timeline would deal with the Luxembourg Crisis?
Can we just appreciate how many 40 minute bangers this man has brought out in the last weeks?
Lovely work. What a second scenario!
And this is why the Germans at the start of the war said that they had shackled themselves to a corpse.

Day 3 of asking "What if Poland Lithuania had reformed"
it really is difficult to imagine to have it somewhat realistic.
What? Russia is Orthodox?
@ Ye true but from 1618-1620 russia was catholic due to Polish control.
Love this video 😁🎉
What if Russia was in the Central Powers and Austria-Hungary in the Entente?
POSSIBLE HISTORY, I am currently apart of a Model UN Historical Committee on the Paris Peace Conference, a decision that I suggested and was agreed upon is that instead of Poland gaining Danzig and the Polish Corridor, the Polish enter a union with the new Lithuanian Republic, giving Poland a coast and Lithuania a stronger military. I believe this may be a interesting topic as it presents less ammunition for Germany and a potentially stronger Poland
6:54 “What if Hungary joined the Entente” seems too unrealistic for a full video
Because Hungary would have to do it between about January to May 1915 since after that the Germans started to push back the Russians, leading to most of the Hungarian crown to back the war
If Hungary had enough time to mobilise for the Entente at that point it’s hard for them to just not back the initial war leading to Austria just never declaring war on Serbia for risk of breaking the 2 crown system and World War 1 never starting at all!
really good video!
Thank you for this interesting althistory

What if Germany betrayed Austria-Hungary?
Eso no tiene sentido
What if everything went perfect for sardinia-piedmont?
Can you do a series of all times in modern history where Europe almost unified?
Regarding your second scenario:
A lot depends on *how* Hungary declares its independence.
The complete division of Anatolia also seems a little iffy, but Turkey absolutely would not have its modern borders.
great scenrio and vid
What is the name of the music piece at 21:00?
Comment so im reminded if someone responds
Music is called “Web Weaver’s Dance”, found it in the description!

We need more ethnic maps from possible history!!!
this feels like a strange scenario

Day 1 of asking what if everything went perfect for Greece
But at what time, Ancient Greece?
Okay, but what if we _did_ get the Bavaro-Austro-Hungarian Empire?
The scenarios that came out of a hungarian indepedence were really interessting

I hate when people make Russia form a semi-autonomous Poland, it literally existed until we uprised in 1863 and got crushed for good
