    I've had all the Z1's(73-75) the KZ900(76)all the KZ1000's,Z1R(78)Z1R turbo,MK 2 chain drive+ shaft drive(79)and several RICKMAN Z1 powered bikes(a couple TURBOCHARGED!!)...so you could say I know these bikes pretty well! of them all....my favorites were the candy blue 75 Z1 + of course the beautiful Rickman with that chrome-molly frame(nickel-plated) that looked like a CHROME bike when you polished it/stunning! great FUN times!! ahhh....the good old days....

      ah...i forgot..i also had both the 900 and 1000 LTD bikes.(red color and black)..so that should complete the list of all Z1/KZ variants ever built..BTW the 76 KZ pictured here(Emerald green was the better color then the Brown)was more"civilized"than the previous Z1 models(73-75) and handled better(frame re-design)and had great low and mid-range power but didn't have the "top-end punch" as much as the previous models did , because it had the smaller 26mm carbs instead of the more powerful 28mm Mikunis..... they were all fun bikes though..."LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL" was the motto back then...and they WERE good times(from what I can remember!) cheers all you "old farts" out there who were ridn these "beasts" like me" back in the day."..they were the golden years of cycling to be sure...(but now WE are in our "GOLDEN YEARS /LOL!!)

    My brother used to own a Z-1, I preferred & used to own a 1978 KZ-650's which sported a "lower center of gravity". I put a SR-650 gas tank & smooth bore 29mm carbs and headers it looked "Trick" and performed beautifully. Those were the days.........🥰

    hey Ken. This is Dan I'm watching your video on the kz900 that beautiful green kz900 Kawasaki what a through the roof gorgeous bike green just happens to be my favorite color and my very first street bike I ever had which was my CB750 Honda k3 was a dark olive green and that was just my probably my favorite bike I ever owned I remember the first time I ran across a guy on a kz900 coming out of Paradise California my home town heading towards Chico down the Skyway him and I both jumped on it about the same time and this guy just cleaned my clock thought I had a fast bike with that CB750 but it was nothing compared to that guy's kz900 we ended up becoming friends and he eventually let me ride that bike and that was when I fell in love with Kawasakis definitely bulletproof bikes man that is one beautiful bike you restored there canned what a gorgeous bike and what an awesome job thank you for the video.

    Beautiful bike and restoration. Paint is incredible and I can see by the color of the pipe, you have the carbs tuned perfectly for the K&N's and V&H pipe which is no easy task. Need to point out, which I'm sure you know, that this is not a Z1 as you said on the test drive. Z1's had reflectors on the forks, a different triple tree, different emblems on the side covers and some other minor cosmetic things. I love that you guys love these old bikes as much as I do. Keep up the good work. We are a dying breed! Kudos to you and your crew!

    I had one exactly like that in 1979 ... the only difference was mine had a LTD seat and a sissy bar it had a Kerker header on it to.... I never dreamed those bikes would ever be worth much I think I sold mine in the 80’s for 1500 dollars mint condition.... thanks for the awesome video buddy....

    I have one. Had it since new.102000 miles on the odo and still lòks exactly like this. Mine has the Kerker stainless steel exhaust. What a bike. To me this is the most beautiful bike of them all. But I would say that.

    I've had my '76 KZ900 for 20years originally had the brown color they offered for this year. Had it painted to my liking. It has 40k miles with only standard maintenance! Nearly as nice as this beauty! Such a distinct sound of these bikes -you can't sneak up on nobody!

    • @davidmccall4776
      @davidmccall4776 9 місяців тому

      I had the brown '76 as well, and quickly had it painted with a dark blue metallic IMRON paint, wrinkle-blacked the jugs, installed a 16" Harley rear wheel and tire, and added lowering blocks on the rear shocks, and 3" set-backs for the bars, and man it looked good and ran like scared ghost! I bought it off the showroom floor for $2609.00 OTD, which, at that time, was a pretty big chunk of change! These bikes were beasts, and I'd give anything to have mine back! It was a great part of my good old days, to be sure sure! ☮✌

    I bought one of these new in 76. A fabulous bike that I crossed the continent on 6 ways of Sunday. Nice resto job. Save for the mags and the exhaust, it's perfectly original looking.

    Looks like a Lestor Mag on the rear, A 1978 + Kawasaki Mag on the front, extra disc on front but, needs a different master for dual disc set up .If you get caught in the rain, with the K&N individual filters you'l be in for a surprise ...Later Kawasaki electronic ignitions bolt right on as well as excellent ones from a company called Dyna ignitions,& others.Once you've run pointless ignition you realize how bad points suck.There was a slight flat spot just off idle , but it was never a problem unless you didn't blip the throttle before taking off. How do I know this stuff ? I've got the exact same bike & still drive it every year.It's got 113,000 miles ,(this was just before speedo's in kilometre 's were phased in up north) This bike has never left me stranded ,& has even with stood lot's of experiments , but aside from grafting on a 1000cc cylinder bore, & a pipe it's stock .I replaced one cam chain guide sprocket after spraying it accidentally with gasket remover ,which dissolved the noise dampening "O" rings it was pressed together with .The rest of the guides & idlers are amazingly original, & intact. If I could find any fault at all , it would have to be the original exhaust didn't last very long , but then I never oiled it year to year .. Buy this bike , it's a good driver , but ask for the stock air box assembly just in case you need it.

    I've got a KZ900 and while I really like the bike, 76 is not the most collectible year. In the case of the Z1 (which I'll include the KZ900) the earlier the better. 73s are like gold and any of the Z1s are going to bring more than a KZ900 in comparable shape. And ironically, like you said, the KZ900 is the best all around bike of the 4 years albeit a bit slower than the Z1s.

    I own a 75’ Z1b with 14k on the clock. I’ve owned it 25+ years and practically stole it from an uninformed seller. She’s about to get a complete frame up restoration. I’ve done what I can to make it look and run perfect with my limited abilities. I’m going to go all in on the resto because I picked it up so cheap. I’m going stir crazy waiting for it to all come together.

    Do you purchase from general public? I have a 74 Z1 kawasaki I've owned for a while and thinking of selling? Have clean Vermont title to it. This was one of Bob Moshinskie and Paul Gast creations. Moshinskie had his shop in Marshfield vt. For over 30 years then moved to Tennessee a while back. Anyway, can text you pictures with cell number. Engine and frame numbers match up, no modification to frame, and not powder coated. Bike has been repainted, with a Vance&Hines theme. Period correct extended swing arm with 5.5" rear wheel and 180 Avon rubber. Top end is 1197 with a street port, oversize valves and a mk2 head used. Has two step and shift minder if wanting to play on street or strip. Was put on dyno and showed 127hp at rear wheel. Bike tachs out at 10,200 instead of stock 8,200 from factory at the time. Tracks straight, no wobble! Let me know please.

    My first bike and I mean the first motorcycle I ever road and owned was a KZ 900 Kawi back in 1978 yes I bought the baddest motorcycle at the time I practiced in the parking lot and drove it to work that night at Coors brewery got blasted at the bar after work drove home (repeat). never dumped her ever and I used to race her on the weekends at the 1/4 mile track I will never love a bike like that again.

      It's an A4 with a ton of non original mods. A riders bike but definitely not a period correct or museum peice. It should have spokes to look more authentic. I'm sure it would be fine to ride although I can't see why you didn't sort out the second front caliper. It's odd leaving that only 1/2 done.
