I had that same bike, same year, same color, same everything! I bought it new for the list price of $2609.00. Man, I loved that bike, it was like straddling a bolt of greased lightning! ☮✌
This brings back memories of my uncle that drag raced the old kz when I was young rember first time he let me rip the 750 that was built down the road I was 15 let's say mom was not happy but thanks to him IAM a hell of a builder and Rider .rip.
I bought one of these as my first motorcycle. That was serious learning curve. That thing was so fast I got in more trouble with the local PD . I put 24,000 miles on it in 15 months and traded it for a 1978 Z1R that had already been modified by the dealer . Now that was really fast . Man does that bring back memories ! I would love to have this one just for a few more rides . Beautiful motorcycle then and now .
In my twenties I would do about ten wheelies a day on my KZ900. Used to hide my reefer in the cool secret drawer under the seat. Would take my girl with a blanket to the woods an' make out all the way while I keep watch on the 900.........now I'm old and all full of disease.....don't have the girl no more......BUT STILL GOT THE KZ900!!! .......and it looks even BETTER than Kaplans'....HA!!! (....my son does the wheelies now)
bought mine right out of the box for $2000 Canadian, same colour, put 44,000 miles on by September 77, was stored for the winter of course, loved it. Much better looking with original 4 pipes.
I had several KZ over the years but this one is gorgeous. I currently have a 2021 Z900 RS café. I bought it new with 0 miles and the only thing I’ve done to it was put a good set of tires on it. Michelin Road 6 which completely transformed the bike over the stock GP 300 tires. I wish I could find non-ethanol fuel in my area. I don’t really need it obviously for my new bike but just for the older carbureted bikes!
Makes me wonder what my 1976 KZ900 in dark green is worth.. Owned it since 1980 and it only has 6,617 miles. All original paperwork, still have the Kawasaki sales receipt from the dealer!
Hahaha I had dat bike with wind jammer and sissy bar radio and cig liter. I paid $900 cash to guy named Red in Ralston Nebraska in 1992 or 1991. I drove it for quite awhile back to toledo... ...
When I bought bike $900 it had 900 mile on odometer in 91 or 92. From Red Red Passed, Tom his son is in his 70's and also Gary Boham from Lavista story to he is my friend. One leg
Take a classicly and elegantly styled bike, the ZI and hit it with the ugly stick. I own 2, one is modified into a hotrod, the opther nis stock. Both of mine have a disc rear brake and alloy Morris style wheels. I paid $4k for both bikes.
Kaplan America, only you could make that massive dream bike look small with all your red white and blue gear on! Sh@t, I’m older than you and it hasn’t occurred to me (yet) that I’m over “middle age” ! To top it all off, That’s the bike that started my collection, right there in Root Beer brown. I’ll trade you my mint ZX 1400R with 4,000 miles and make up the difference. I’m serious, and could ride out there anytime 🤷🏻♂️🏍. I have a few other nice bikes to put in the pot. I NEED THAT BIKE 😩😩😩!!!

was it reliable?
@@Spartansrule118 I put 44,000 miles on it in 2 summers, no problems at all, sadly I sold it in 1979
@@williambalyx1053 thanks for the reply all the best
I have 3 of them.. love the old dinosaurs
I have one just like this and have owned it since 1977. I mostly ride a zx10R now. The KZ900 is a garage queen as I am spoiled by the zx10R power.
The Z1-B is the 76 LTD I believe. Not a Z1 though?
That is sweet! I bought the same bike in 77, just loved it. put bars with a 2" rise ltd pipes great bike
lovely bikes and used on the mad max movies by the toe cutter gang
These bikes are wicked fast. I want this one😅. Brother had a new one in the 70s. Had 4 into header, the sound was so deep

Just some extra bore lol cool bike brother one of my dream bikes lol
How much
Funny how a 1200cc is considered small these days yet when this was made anything over 750cc was huge
