Ep.22 | The Mountbattens - Sex, Secrets and High Society

  • In our first episode Andrew raised shocking sexual abuse allegations about Lord Louis Mountbattten - one of the most famous and most powerful royal celebrities of all time. This week Andrew and Phil reveal new evidence from named witnesses about Mountbatten. They also explore the famously ‘open marriage’ he enjoyed with his wife Edwina.
Shining a light on the sexual politics (and many hypocrisies) of that age, they ask if the Mountbatten’s notorious bed hopping may have played a role in huge events of state such as the partition of India.
You can buy Andrew’s bestselling book on the Mountbattens - and thousands of others - in our Scandal Mongers bookshop and help support us and a range of small, independent, profit-sharing booksellers in the UK...

I read a wonderful book called Indian Summer which was about Edwina and Mountbatten in the last days of the Raj, and her love affair with Nehru. The impression I get with all the affairs and the running around is just that they didn't have anything else to do!

I wonder how many of her affairs were a reaction to her husband's behavior.

Mr Lownie as a fan of your work I am thrilled to discover this podcast. Having read the Traitor King I felt angry and appalled by some of the shenanigans. I do believe that history should be out in the open, not covered up or falsified. I commend you Sir. Keep up the good work gents. ❤

I have listened to all the episodes of your programme/podcast - thoroughly enjoyed every one and they have provided me with much food for thought and inspired me to read more about all of the topics you have covered. You both have wonderful voices for broadcasting, clear and easy on the ear - the issues are so well researched, explained well and in a really accessible way. I have recommended Scandalmongers to many people. Why not add a Thanks button to the UA-cam screen. Best wishes and thank you to you both.

Love the show and have listened since the first episode.
May I suggest that if you are after Australian scandals you should have a look at the Hilton Hotel bombing in 1978.
Something really weird took place and the cover up was just as weird.

You popped up on my feed because of Meghan and Harry but I enjoy many of your podcasts. You should do more H and M to fool the algorithms to get you more viewers for the other ones. I just rewatched the Mountbatten multipart self made biography available on utube and found it interesting. Especially some of the diversions from the truth.

I like having the monarchy and like most of them, probably more the younger generation. I have to say though I am a bit fed up with all the cover up that goes on. It’s definitely a case of one rule for them!

I think the man-made construct of Royalty and privilege and the supposed reverence we plebs are supposed to feel towards them is becoming more and more blatantly clear. Never complain, never explain is there for a reason.

I love your older shows. Irish ones are particularly interesting. I am not interested in the present royals because of the sheer amount of coverage on you tube but I do of course enjoy the scandalous Sussexes.

I believe Prince Charles has his hand in not having them released. From what I recall he had a hand in getting rid of Backstairs Billy's "contents" in his house. After you spoke in another podcast I watched last week of Charles's inner circle planting the seed to the press that Diana was unstable. Diana would have been terrified that Charles and his family could have her committed or gain full custody because she was mentally unfit to raise the heir. Thank goodness Diana was brave enough to tell her story.

I think that the Harry Meghan scrutiny and the inability of the RF to spin that after they walked away may make it easier for journalists to ascertain and report actual facts about the RF in real time as time goes on. Unlike in the past. Interested to know what you think.
