My friend made one out of 4” pvc, broke in two months. He spend about 85.00 to make it. Then he made another one out of a bit more heavy duty pvc pipe lasted only 2 years before the sun ate the pvc pipe, and started to leak. Good quality is not cheap and it will save you time and money. Great video.

David THIS is exactly what I was wondering about! I was well on my way to making a pressurized roof rack camp shower myself but the more I researched the more it seemed like it wouldn’t last that long, especially since I don’t have a garage for the car it would go on so it would likely get a lot of sun. Just gonna keep it simple and I’m actually returning all the materials I gathered today.

You also don't want shards of plastic in your face if it explodes due to over pressurization.

I have a DIY shower in my bed. A modified 2 gallon sprayer with a sink hose attached. It works great. I do a lot of landscaping, it feels great to rinse of real quick before getting in the truck.

Not to be that guy but FYI - Yakima does NOT recommend and will not warranty ( if the base rack fails) a RoadShower installed on the outside of the tower. It is clearly marked in the installation instructions.

The only thing is that occasionally you might want to clean inside your water tank. A PVC shower DIY can be built with cleanouts. For the same cost you could get more water volume and replace the entire system almost three times in 4 years. A PVC system would last as long as any outdoor irrigation or electrical PVC conduit (decades); painted it will last even longer.

When it's full of water and pressurized does the full tank come out under pressure? In the winter in the south when it's over 70F and sunny, is the water still warm a few hours after the sun sets?

guys, does this not get boiling hot if left out during the summer? I'm trying to figure the best setup for showering/cleaning dishes for short during trips out in the trails, maybe 2-3 days, possibly a week. I'm thinking one of these with a shower head for showers, hose for cleaning bikes. 5 gallon jugs for dishes and handwashing.... anyone have any recs on their setup?

      Skeeters are drawn to B.O.
So are a few thousand other biting and stinging critters.
Had a buddy when I used to work in coastal Louisiana, get eat up with whatever smelly good stuff he had on, or b.o. on longer days.
I would arrive fresh showered with non perfume soaps and deodorant, grab a quick shower at lunch on occasion. Didn’t mess with me as much since he was a hot buffet.

What are y'all trying to say? A house's PVC plumbing won't last 4 years? With the right UV paint, a home made PVC shower should last just as long as your $300 model! Even if it doesn't, a PVC shower would cost around $20 to build! If it lasts 2 years(I think it would last a lot longer done right), it would take 15 years before you spent $300!!

    • @HondaFit4Adventure

Two concerns most people have with a D.I.Y. system are...
      1. Chemicals leaching from the plastic into the water. (You are showering not drinking the water)
      2. The pvc or whatever plastic material pipe becoming over pressurized and exploding.
