    I really enjoyed this video. Really brings me back. As a child, I remember seeing my first saltwater tank in a seafood restaurant in the early 1990’s. Dead rock, artificial corals, crushed coral DSB, in a beautiful white oak stand with a light stain, 90ish(?) cube, with a center overflow, and a bright fluorescent light, that made all the fish’s colors vividly pop. We would eat their often and I had to impatiently eat my dinner before I could go off on my own to stair at the fish! That’s what got me into Reef Building!

    Great technique for catching the fish from a quarantine tank.
    Stunning livestock too.

    The decorations in that tank take a little away from the beautiful fish on display.

    • @ReefBuildersVideo
      @ReefBuildersVideo  4 роки тому +3

      I think the muted decoration give the fish a place to hide without detracting from them as the main event. But more importantly, they are MUCH easier to clean and don't trap waste that results in nutrient buildup.

      IKR, some basic rock structure will make it look a lot more natural, even with no corals. The decoration make it look like a petco tank.

      I'm talking about the display the fish were graduated into, not the QT rack.

    You did a great job Jake of abstaining in regards to just having a short qt period ensuring the health of the fish and their longevity. So many people don’t take the time to do that. 👍

    Ok so you didn't put in the Potters Angel as it didn't pass the test and showed signs of something going on. Weren't you concerned about adding the Basslets since they came from the same QT tank and one fish was showing signs of " A Little Funk" ??????? Love the Basslets. All new fish are very nice additions.

    I see you transferred the fish from medicated tanks into the main tank with your hands, but what's a good method if you're working with a foxface and don't want to get stung?

  • @johnVidBozo

    Love your rack system. Are the left and right sides filtered separately?
    If you have one 'funky' fish in a side, why would you take other fish out to a display? I'd worry they all might have the funk but not showing it.
    I use a colander to do the final drain before fish goes to the next tank. Every time I've used my hands I've gotten spiked!

    • @ReefBuildersVideo
      @ReefBuildersVideo  4 роки тому +1

      you're right, but from experience what I saw is not a contagious concern, more of a little funk on one fish that I want to keep an eye on.

      Just transfer the netted (or hand caught) fish to an intermediary bucket, with tank water (no copper). Let it swim around for a little bit. Then net (or hand catch) it again, and let it into your DT. Simple 😊

    My display got velvet from a frag. I lost 8 fish so far 7 left looking iffy. My question is: how long to leave a display fallow for velvet? I want to keep my cleaner shrimp in there during the fallow period. I also want to eventually restock with just 3 to 5 fish frag style so what fish do jobs well I am looking for algae control, pest control, and aiptasia control? Thank you to anyone who can help.

    • @ReefBuildersVideo
      @ReefBuildersVideo  4 роки тому +1

      I can't comment on getting velvet from a frag, I don't know enough about the life cycle of that disease. But for ich, definitely remove any debris and clean up the base of the coral, or better yet remove the frag from the plug - even if it's encrusted, or cut off as much as you can. Once you've groomed the frag or coral, I think one week is enough for any potential spores to hatch, and die out from lack of a host.

    • @Dave-mt6qe
      @Dave-mt6qe 4 роки тому

      For velvet, it's 6 weeks fallow - www.reef2reef.com/threads/fallow-periods-going-fishless.190324/
      For frags, they should be kept in a fishlish system for 45 - 76 days humble.fish/community/index.php?threads/coral-invert-quarantine-time-frames.487/
      Also, I can confirm what happened to you, as it happened to me too, only it was with a piece of live rock and not a frag. I had setup a new system, cycled it and wanted to add some live rock for color, micro fauna and good bacteria.. well, it brough velvet into my system.
