bro getting more reps with the same wing shape on the disc is gonna be huge regardless of weight!! big gains! you will see the amount of power required as the main variable due to spinrate and angular momentum, and the fade shouldn't be very different at speed, more drop from the sky when nose up, i guess. . but the amount of juice it takes to get it flat is still a much more of a targetable variable when the flight characteristics in turblence are still pretty well controlled. plus the more reps, the more beat in the new discs, and the alignment gets even better!
I go lighter weight to practice what the timing feels like there, then I just give it more effort/beans when a heavier disc comes along ( someehat joking somewhat not) but for most adult males, strength is minor concern vs developing nueral drive. Strength training is basically training the nervous system. Body building is training the muscular system. But training grip is typically best done via volume and duration, not peak contractions. Its just the nature of small muscles that are constantly being asked to work.
Dang glad to hear this discussion! I competed in lifting and was a USAW coach for a handful of years before some growing up-life changes, then having found discgolf a few years ago. I’ve been annoyed with my inconsistent disc-ing abilities, so this training tactic is very relatable and I look forward to more discussion on it as I nerd out on my disc-tuber coaches!!!
For myself, when I'm constantly throwing my heavier disc, then I pick up my lighter one, I burn it over every time, and I'm less consistent, I start adjusting my firm according to what's in my hand, but I guess that's no different than adjusting from mid range to fairway etc, good experiment though, it could work
i read somewhere that ur not supposed to do a functional sport mostion with added weight . and like the only ones who really do it is the bat example but that is more about feeling the Feel of the bat as heavy and not actuall weight training the motion 🤔 i def could be wrong though, there has to be sport science published
Thanks for another great video! I think it's a great idea. I do something similar in that I practice throwing with my beat in old putters. Then when I get to the course, my newer, nicer, faster discs are much easier to throw.
#Robbie a suggestion for another test (using a set of matched disks)... on the "Reach back" ... I see some holding the disk neutral, some curling it into the wrist.. and possibly some holding it away from the wrist... This then changes as they hit the pocket... My "THEORY" is, that for some, you may be able to impart more spin on release if you have the disk more out/loose as it hits the 'pocket' allowing it to 'Bounce' into the pocket, creating that tucked round hold... from there the disk uncurls more on the last section of the throw, in theory giving more spin... I have tried but without a net, accelerometer or multi matched disks... my results are on the bench (followed by a 90m walk up the slight hill that we use as a practice hole.... We use a real Golf Course set up locally, so little NPC's but it's on the side of a hill so only 1 hole with a range... And a nearby playing field that gets whole teams of NPC's so not always available.. tho when empty, a 120m x 150m AstroTurf field right next door).
I just posted a comment about heavier discs and mentioned the baseball doughnut on the Uliberri Vlogmas video with Simon where Uliberri was trying to increase his putting distance! We are on the same wavelength! I will say about 5 grams out of 175 grams is what 2%, I feel like you may want to go a bit heavier to get significant results. I feel like, If you are trying to increase by say 10mph, (60 to 70mph) that is about 13% faster, so maybe 13 percent heavier? Could be a bit off here but maybe closer to 197 grams or so would be more beneficial?
That's just spitballing, 1% in weight may not equal 1% in speed, maybe a correlation of weight to speed could be found in the baseball bat weight vs doughnut weight and speed statistics?
I love this idea, but I feel like you are going about it a little wrong. First, I agree with what @randallkornholio2971 says about the weight. That is, 180 grams just isn't enough. I would think you need at least 200 gram discs, if not more (or both). Second, when you were throwing the discs and talking about the throws and the distances you were getting, I got the feeling that you expected to get more distance with the heavier discs (maybe I'm wrong there). My thinking in using heavier discs would be to train the body, strength training really, like how baseball pitchers use plyoballs (who are heavier than regular baseballs) to train their body (and most arm) to throw. I would think that if you could get even heavier discs than these (say like 200 grams and maybe even also 220 grams) and practice with them for awhile that could lead improvement on throwing regular weight discs. That's a video I'd like to see at least :) Keep up the good work Robbie. P.S. how are you doing to day?
8:48 .... Sooo with a few more trials... 'maybe' this shows that throwing the heavier disks then throwing the lighter ones... 'may' have increased the power/technique implied on the lighter ones. You may never be able to throw those Heavy disks further... but does it impart an effect on how you throw the lighter ones... Robbie... You have plenty of disks that fly similar, that you know the distance you throw them at... Go throw one... Then spend a session in front of the net throwing the heavier ones... Then throw it again... (Unfortunately as you say, experiments in the wild are spurious at best so the truth may never come obvious from this... But you get an excuse to throw plastic at trees. What more could you want.!
Increase your distance by throwing around 5 to 10 pound iron plate for a few weeks. far from ggbdaagaba approved but works.
Didn't Ezra do a video of him throwing a heavy ass metal disc through watermelons?

Halfway through Vlogmas season!

How can i order a heavy dune from trash panda? I went to website and did not see it.

You should have gone out to an open field to try the experiment.
It’s a good starting point
Pfffffffttttttttt...... Ezra put over a kilo on a disc once! 181g child's play!

But you can get all kinds of midranges at 180 or higher why not just purchase those. I thought these would be actually heavier.
It looks like your reach back is high and causing air bounce from this camera angle.
My guess you need even heavier discs.

Get a 200 gram condor
Sick video!
I hope you get better soon.
