My routines start the night before the tournament. I will take all my discs out of the bag and wash them. If I'm out of town, I'll use the bathtub in the hotel room. Something about a freshly washed disc, especially my putters, feels better in the hand.
Im fairly new to your channel, but I have been binge watching your videos, and they have helped my game in the last two months, so thank you for how you do your videos you rock my dude.
From being a semi decent ball golfer, the act of undoing my glove after a shot and redoing it (the velcro strap) before a shot. It gave me the moment of glove strapped in, it's game time and loose can relax. For disc golf when I set my bag down. Give the chalk bag a squeeze before setting a mini!
I heard about a study of a bunch of players that worked out that 8 seconds was the best setup time for putting, any less or more gave worse results. So I try to do my setup on the count of 8. It works for me. I also synchronize my breathing, so I always throw on the exhale.
Thank you for showing people what a short simple routine looks like. There was this one guy on card in a tournament we played in and it was 98 degrees outside and he did the tour pro on the tee pad without a disc in his hand then would go to his bag and do it again. It was brutal...easily 1 minute + on the box. He was newer to disc golf and finally had to say something to him about it. This video is a must watch for beginners and a great reminder for us vets especially for tournament play to keep things moving. I find pace of play also promotes better play.
you nailed it Robbie! I really like at the end where you talked about how the second man suffers from not going through the routine... such a great example of how the routine helps center your throws. I t tend o rush things and have more of a no routine, routine. But then I realized how much more successful I have become with my putting by just taking that extra beat and mentally and sometimes verbally telling myself to focus. The routine doesn't have to be elaborate it just has to get you centered for your maximum potential.
Good video. One time I Tried To MAKE a routine and was overthinking and over doing it. I then settled down to just making sure I was doing my critical things. Putting, check my grip, find/imagine my aim point or flight path, rock a couple times to check my balance and footing, pull back and putt. Drives, throws was to set my grip, hold out for the line, think of my ques, walk and fire.
It’s crazy timing. My buddy (the guy who introduced me to the sport this year) just suggested I start developing a putting routine. And here you are telling me how to do just that!
Thanks. I had a routine for real golf, but didn’t connect to do the same for all of my throws in disc. Also, don’t listen to the trolls on your video format. You are the content creator and get to decide the flow and style of your videos. Always will be complainers, but I love the way you provide more context as you explain a concept. It helps it stick better for me.
That was the video I needed. I do a quick routine on the Putting green. Step up, put down the mini, put the disc right in front of it, place my right foot at the right angle, take the disc, kind of make a paint the pole movement. Getting ready. Then I release the disc wipe my fingers on the leg. Grab it again and 1 2 count down 1 count to release the disc. Sometimes I think it's silly and surprice I miss the putt. From now on I'll keep your words in my ear. Do the routine, everytime. Thanks brother. I have to find one to the tee pad as well. Because I'm mixing up all your example throwers. Big smiley.
I just played in the Carolina Clash this last weekend and had a rough first round (as it was my first tournament this year). The last couple months I've made a point to both have and simplify my routine (especially on the teebox). It ended up being a really nice grounding element and I had some really great shots and putts the last two days. Totally agree with the video.
Thanks again Robbie. You are a calm in the storm. Just makes more sense to have a repeatable routine. I have really tried to get one down and it has improved my game. Keep it simple stupid. Wise words. 😂
Great insight into your mind and process! No real routine off the tee. Other than looking and visualizing the line I want to go for, and setting the initial disc angle I want to have. Footwork and timing changes, even the reach-out does. I should look into it. For putting I let my thoughts go for wild rides. Let them flow. What ever pops up, go with it. When stance is done and I am ready to throw I look for the aiming point and clear my mind for total silence - then throw. I try the best I can to avoid what I call superstition (feel free to disagree), so I do not like to move in a set way, or do this x times before doing something else. I get that it works for some, but it is not for me personally.
As a standstill thrower, my routine is to set my feet where I want them for my line, then go through my coil, brace, and uncoil into the pocket a couple times.
I'm really new to this, just posted my 5th round today. I've been building a routine for putting but never considered one for tee shots. I'm still doing a stand still tee shot so no walk up to practice. I'll have to think about this a bit
In my experience a routine is great... until it's not. When things aren't clicking my routine can feel like a self-created jail, especially on the green. Going through the entire process just to doink a putt is extremely frustrating. There's something to be said for busting out of your routine and just cashing a putt when your routine is working against you.
Totally agree on this. On putts….sometimes I know I’m about to overthink it - I intuitively switch to make one quick stroke to make sure my body is aligned and fire. I think you have to what is your mental state and play within that.
I'm the Speedy. If I take much time at all, I won't be relaxed and I'll overthink what I'm doing. I'm done with my throw 3 seconds after either approaching the lie or the tee box
I know this isn’t technically routine, but what’s helped me a lot on teeshots is not running up, instead walking. Helps me find timing a little better, maybe that’s just me though 😂
That course has to be one of the worst around. 😆 I got to hole 10 (I think) and just left 😆 driving next to road on one side and a huge hill down to a high school on the other, no thank you.
@@killakalani6759 I definitely thought about this when making this video, and probably should have included my thoughts. While I do agree with that, I think that most “no routines” are exactly that routines. Thus when folks think I don’t need to establish a consistent routine because I just don’t do anything fancy, they are leaving the door wide open for little variances in their patterns and swing.
@RobbieCDiscgolf i agree I'm a fast putter only because if I look at it too long : I've rested this" I'll miss the putt 100% of the time. I have a routine that's not a routine but still a routine. I'm not trying to counter your tutorial I'm more or less closing the door on the I don't have a routine guy. I agree with you 100%
hilarious parody of routines. nearly every sport has routines, i.e. free-throw line, bowlers, golfers, baseball pitcher/hitter. The value of the routine is to clear the headspace for this task.
Aspiring pro tour choking on his chalk is the best!!

@@PoserdaveOutdoors me too ill wash a gram of dirt off my putter any given week it's horrible. I need to make more putts so this doesn't happen lol

A sensible stretching routine will be an awesome video

Very much looking forward to Thursday. Routine is important of me, and I need to continually shorten it because I'm an overthinker.
Setting the bag down helps a lot !

I find myself disappointed when I don't hear the 'missed putt quack sound' on other disc golf videos 🤣🤣🤣🤣
What song is your intro? It sounds good
I've been playing too much Fallout. . . I keep hearing something going on and think I am getting RADS. Good video =]
my putting is now sing to myself and focus on that one link has changed my game and shaved strokes.
Listen man, my hands get really sweaty down here in the Florida humidity. I need all the chalk I can get 😂

@@JTygerAU Absolutely. Anything within 20 feet I'll typically just line up, focus my vision and then send it. No chance for mental self sabotage.

I mark 5 foot putts, mostly because if how.bad i am.
Did someone say poutine? 🤤
set my mini, find a link on the basket I want to hit, breath in, and let my putt fly as I breath out
If I’m consistently inconsistent, am I?
0:09 have you been watching my rounds? ;D
