I think the hard part here is finding a way for the hats and ride to compliment eachother. I am not sure many will find this video useful whithout any hats in it.

I wanted this one to be a quick one about rides, and the alternating velocities you need to get them right. I will do more in depth drum programming ones in future. There's some drum patterns on the blog here in the meantime... www.studiobrootle.com/techno-drum-patterns-and-drum-programming-tips/

I appreciate it though. Often when I try to add rides they become annoying, I find it hard to fit them into the mix. I manage, but mostly by trial and error.

    Excellent.

This just sounds like an open hihat on the afterbeat, ringing through till the next one hits. Because off the falloff in the sample, the volume is the same at that point when you trigger the same sample at half the velocity (or whatever the numbers are). It would sound more like that climax you are talking about when you keep them relatively the same velocity, because it would feel like some parts are going doubletime (which they are).

It’s similar. You can get interesting patterns with the hihats on a 909 as they choke each other (they won’t play at the same time to mimic a real hi hat which can either be open or closed but not both). So if you do a long open hat followed by a closed you can get some interesting rhythms. You can set up choke in a drum rack, but I just draw it in and make sure the hits don’t overlap. I’ve gone off on a bit of a tangent here tbh! but hope it helps to get those grinding techno hats and rides.
