My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa. Paris (yes the one in France) has been my home for years now and I have every intention of staying here for as long as they'll have me. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlogged daily for 3+ years, and love pizza a little too much. Now I make videos about visiting Paris, traveling in Europe, and try to share what I've learned along the way. I hope you enjoyed what you found.
Links are affiliate links where they can be - meaning if you click through them and buy something, I'll get some pennies. Thanks! (The FTC wants me to tell you that up front)
Can you travel to London from Paris by train? Can you do London in a day? What can you even see in London if you visit on the Eurostar from Paris? Yes, yes, and a lot! I love London and am getting up there more often from Paris by Eurostar - the train between France and the UK is quick and usually painless. If you're itching to do a day trip to London from Paris, I'd recommend it.

Aww what a cute story about a friend and a gift. If no one has told Cooper, he has the best buddy in the whole wide world. 🎉🎉🎉 Merci
🥳🐶
did he say st. Peters cathedral?? :') also being a londoner I am impressed you managed to do all the tourist sites in one day
He really did!🤣
He did. Oh, Jay. 😆
I know better, but it was near the end of a very long day 😆 My apologies (also ashamed we missed it in review!!)
@@JaySwanson awe! We still love you. 😉
Awww lol the ending was the best!!!!! Super cute I’m sure Cooper loved his gift. Now I’m going to have a birthday party for my cat lol 😂
Gotta take every excuse to gather friends they you can!
you're the first youtuber that I didn't put a playback speed of x1.75 and without skipping! very detailed and entertaining!
That's such a compliment - thank you!
Last January we stayed in London for eight days and we had planned a one day trip to Paris, unfortunately it was January 31 and the Eiffel Tower and a few other things were on strike so we canceled it. Rather than lose the €300 in train tickets, we are now spending thousands more to go back to Paris for four days at the beginning of December so I’m binging your videos. We are flying into London again for three days and then taking the train to Paris.
One day is never enough in Paris!!!! Happy you get to go see it🙏
I hope it's the best trip ever!
@@JaySwanson Merci'
2:15 this entire part with people looking at you was HILARIOUS
The sheer confusion 😆
I’ve been blessed with arriving at the Tube when it’s not rush hour. Off-Peak is your friend.
Took the train to London from Paris for the day. Fastest way to see everything was the Red Bus. Checked out Harrod’s. Forgot they don’t take Euros in London. PS make sure you eat something before leaving London, as every place to eat near train station was already closed by the time we returned. 😢
Great excuse to simply eat all day 🍕🤠
Heading out to London, just for a gift?! Now that's a friend!
I’m doing this trip with my mom in April and we can’t wait. She just wants to see Buckingham and Big Ben, and then we’ll just hang out for the rest of the day.
Sounds fun!
Awww!! Coops looks so cute in his new jacket! 🎉❤
He loves it
Awww…Happy Birthday Cooper! Loved this post. Fun to do a day trip to London….thanks for taking us along.
Thanks for joining!
LOOOOOOVEEEE IT! Happy Birthday Cooper!!
🎉🥳🎉
That’s one long day but worth it as cooper looked great wearing his pressie! Plus you managed to get your fix of M&S cheesy puffs! Never done Eurostar as it’s another 2 hrs and another train ticket from Manchester but one day I will. Great video Jay! 👍
Happy Birthday Cooper!!!
Really fun and helpful vlog. Great work! The surprise at the end was the chef’s kiss.
Oh thank you!
love the energy and the craftsmanship that goes into your video production!
Glad you enjoy it!
On my first visit to Paris in summer of 2015 my day trip to London ended up being overnight due to tyres being lit on fire at Calais with lots of trains cancelled, this taught me a lot about having back up plans for such things. I also met some lovely people in the queue at St Pancras. Great story thanks
You crack me up!!!! LOVE this video!!
Thanks!
Awwww happy birthday Cooper 🥰🥰🥳
🥳👍🥳
Best ending ever.
The UK is closer to the coast of France by a mile than the distance from Catalina Island is to the mainland of California.
And yet no trains leaving California 😮
@@JaySwanson That's why I left and live in NYC!
Next stop? Back to France...
Yep i can see France on a clear day from my house on the cliffs between Folkestone and Dover.
I LOVE THE ENDING! Had fun editing this one, Jay! ☺
You're the best!
Yay for London adventure! Can we get some more Jay-visiting-European-cities, please? Cheers 💛
Just took this trip last month, except we started on London and came back from Paris the next day. One of the things I liked was that I was able to purchase a pack of 10 tickets for the Paris metro on the train in the Cafe Metropole.
Ah yeah, handy tip
Awww, a present for Cooper! ❤
Enjoyed my first Eurostar trip just last month, much more relaxing than flying. Just one point I’d like to make, arrived at Gare du Nord from Gare de Lyon and there was no obvious signage for Eurostar, asked two different staff members who did the “Galic shrug”. Then yes that “am I in the right lane” queuing up 🤷🏻♀️. At St Pancras you cannot fault the signage for Eurostar, it’s almost as if it’s the station’s raison d’etre 😉. How cute is Cooper 😍. Very entertaining travel vlog, thank you 👏
Random but that Stubbs 🐴 horse painting is a museum favorite 🤩 thanks for the quick London visit!
It's a good'n
This was a delightful break from the French job search 😊
🥳🥳
My heart. I hope he loved his gift. 😊
He adores it. But he's not too picky.
Loved the surprise ending!!!! I didn't guess it was for Cooper🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thankfully I think he does like it 😆
I could do a stress-full guide to Paris->London involving rushing from another party past the odd types around Bercy to the bus station at 11pm to make it cramped and aching in London at 7:30am. Plus sides is you get to see the sunrise over the cliffs of Dover on the ferry and you arrive at a perfect time for a breakfast.
How fun and interesting! 🎉🥳
Love the Business Premier Class, compfy lounge, munchies, beverages...definitely book in advance, it's a far, far better thing...
This was a cool and fun video. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love this
I took the train from London to Paris. It was great and so easy. I let from St. Pancras to Gare du Nord
Excellent video!
Glad you liked it!
You got to soooo many sights!!! I was there 11 days and you did amazing 😂
Thanks!
my kids who live in dusseldorf travel to london by car - they use something to london called a tunnel, they book a spot (or something like that) lol
There's a train that will carry your car, as legend holds
Brilliant!!!!!
Thanks!
Such a cute ending! 🐶
Thank you!
P.S. Happy birthday Cooper. What a cute jacket!🎉
This is great! Thanks for this - I happen to have tickets on that train that I stupidly bought when things were starting to open up for a trip we took a couple years ago... I've been kicking them forward (rebooking) every few months since then. I can say with authority that as long as you rebook a few weeks in advance, you can find a fare that is the same price, so no additional fees. sigh. Still hoping to one day make that trip! 🙃
There are occasionally downright cheap tickets
I’m excited
🥳🥳
This video reminds me of that time I went dashing around on my last day in London trying to find the perfect overnighter.
Dash dash!
Great vlog, high quality editing/storytelling
Thank you! Had a lot of fun with this one
@@JaySwanson I agree, the quality of your content is amazing, always! How do you get it to sound so good, especially when you're far away from the camera? What microphone do you use?
Eurostar has some getaway deals incl. Hotel that if you are going to either London or Paris for 10 days make sense to spend 3 nights in the other. We did London to Paris and participating museums incl. D'Orssy & Orangerie were 50% off when you show your Eurostar ticket. If you plan in advance, the Eurostar makes it an easy way to see the 2 best cities in the world at once!
I don't have kids and like to say London is my vibrant boy and Paris is my beautiful girl. You can't force me to pick a favorite child!
You don't even need to leave Gare du Nord to get on the metro :) So that's the good news! The metro doesn't run all night, though, but you should be find if you arrive before midnight.
St Paul’s…St Peter’s is in Rome, isn’t it?
Yeah, mistake made and never caught in review 😆☠️😆
Your friend is a special guy. 😉 Very sweet.
I LOOOOVE London. I'd try a day trip, maybe, but I'd just pack patience and minimize my expectations. Its not going to be an in depth trip - either in London or Paris for a day - but more of a snapshot for another, longer visit.
Heck! Since my husband works for an airline, we fly to California for the day from Seattle. Its pretty much the same idea (but two hours in the airport each way, plus two hours each flight - thats eight hours of just travel - ugh). We usualy get about six hours in Downtown Disney or LA, San Francisco, etc. Ok to visit my husband's dad or go shopping. Last Friday, with a delayed flight and LA traffic, we saw the Space Shuttle Endeavor for an hour, had dinner at Universal City Walk and it was back to BUR to go home. That trip was a bit of a boondoggle. LOL!! But hey! Its an ADVENTURE!!!
BTW - Its St. PAUL'S, not St. Peter's.
love london love paris - but have done them separate both times. lol!
Love em both!
I loved this I just need to say how brave you are for just leaving your camera on the ground and turning around for even a second 😅
So far so good!
Coooooper!
🐶🐶🐶
Hi Jay , Help!! Is getting out of Gare du Nord pretty easy to do at night? We are planning to take the Metro to our hotel after a day in London. Thanks for the info. Happy Birthday Cooper 🎊 🎉
Cooper is one chic doggy 🔥
Fact
I’d appreciate a hug which can’t be bought at any store
The ending! :-) I'm trying to decide if I go just to Paris and take a long day trip to London, or if I'll leave Paris and stay a few days in London and leave for home from there. Never been to either. I think after watching this video, I'll take at least a couple of days for visiting London. Thanks for the insights.
Happy to help!
This video how you did the different shots in London you should do some more like that exploring different cities in Europe you made it look really cool
Thanks!
no cooper 🥺 13:14 🤣
Fire script! Video was a1 as well 🌊🏄🏼♂️
Thank you!
St Paul's Cathedral!
Was just about to write the same thing 😂
Yeah, no idea how I flubbed that in the moment but I blame the rain and the 20k steps I put in leading up to it 🫠
Happy birthday Cooper
🎉🥂🎉
I’ve done it and it was tough but still enjoyed the experience. Probably shouldn’t taken Easy Jet to start. 😂
That Cooper...❤
He's a keeper
St. Peter's?!?! :). Yes, the British love to queue up. French not so much!
Yeah, messed that up and no idea how (I blame the rain)
I'm surprised you did not like the cafe in the crypt. The visuals alone are worth it. One of the best fryups I've had was there. Also, did you miss the lineup of the phone booths head 10 downing?
Eurostar definitely needs effective competition. It’s been nearly 30 years since Paris - London services started and they’ve had a monopoly for far too long. Far too expensive unless one books well in advance on offers, too much queuing, and the departure lounges at Gare du Nord and St Pancras do not have enough seats and get packed at peak times. Better than flying? Possibly and one does at least go city centre to city centre. Plus they need to re-open Ebbsfleet and Ashford to take the pressure off St Pancras.
Totally agree, plus they don't allow dogs which is such a bummer!
Yeah they could build another tunnel easily?
@@JaySwanson The UK does not have rabies we’d like to keep it that way. No way would a central London station want to have animal passport checks too.
Great vide video!! We plan to travel from Paris to London for a day trip. Quick question is there a quick transportation system that will take you from the St Pancras International to Big Ben? How did you get around London and see al the sites in the video?
really need a video on how you set up your camera for these shots 😆
Been thinking of doing just that!
Gold.
Thanks!
Good evening. ineresting . 😌
👍👍
Great video.. Quick question, at 1:50 what's the name of that song?
Hah, funny: I just looked up how much a train ticket from Germany to London is. Thanks for the video. And Beavertown got bought by Heineken.
🥂🥂
Hahaha, it's nót an ocean, but a sea, the Northsea! 😂
Coooooooop🎉❤
Jay being chaotic in London and the face journeys >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
😎
I appreciate this video I will Paris July 27th to Augs 2th I will volunteering @ Paris Summer Games I will make to day to London thanks for video
Have fun!
@@JaySwanson sorry to bother you I found it the same to fly back into CDG is that good idea I always want fly out London Heathrow seen big jettv on UA-cam so that I asking it is BritishAirways.
Quelle grande bénédiction !
Lunch at Dishoom? 🤣 🤣 🤣
Whenever I can!
Flew in from PDX to London and met up with my granddaughter, who lives in Paris last spring. We saw Westminster the last day it was open before the coronation. Walked all over the city and rode the double decker bus. Got a lot packed into one day before heading into Scotland. It is absolutely doable.
It's so fun
Yes good question, why is it that the French have difficulty getting into a line and understanding first come first served? Great finish to your video! Happy Birthday to your furry friend🙂
Beaverton was owned by Robert Palmer's son of led zeppelin... He sold a share of it to Heineken over 6 + years ago, then sold more of the share some time later ... Beaverton use to be a good brewery and brought out lots of good brews ,sadly not now and the recipe has changed of neck oil for sure
That's too bad. I missed it at its peak then
Anyone know the name of the song that starts at 1:48 into the video??
Super.
Thank you🎉
st PAUL’s Cathedral! St Peter’s in in Rome 😂
Great video! I did something similar pre-pandemic.
Do you have any suggestions for the oppositie? I'll be in London the last week of December and am considering a day trip to Paris. Any noteworthy Christmas markets?
The opposite is pretty much the same, you just have to pick and choose what to do in Paris, and I have LOTS of content on that. Here's the information for the Christmas Markets: parisjetaime.com/article/les-marches-de-noel-paris-a018
Many offer different experiences, but you'll surely find a good one to check out!
For the longest time I was like "Wow, this guy talks fast." This I realized I've had my video set by default to 1.5x 😅
Wow, I talk fast on 1x speed, you must have really had a tough time following!
❤❤❤
🥳🥳
November 5th 🎉
Remember remember!
Are the snacks on the train complimentary?
Sadly no 🫠
I am supremely awkward, chaotic and don’t know how to make my hands not flap so I need a bag as an emotional support.
Good day trip Jay, what happened to your French nationality application? do you have any updates? I already did my interview 2 months ago, fingers crossed 🤞
No updates here - still waiting on my interview 🫠

9:15 What's the name of the shop🛍️🐶?
Bow Wow London! Thanks for reminding me to add that
Red phone booth or secret Tardis situation 🤔
Fantastic question
8:28 Amrish Puri from DDLJ found shaking
Is there a limit on the amount of luggage I can bring on the EuroStar? I plan on travelling with a checked bad and a carry on. Flights are much more cheaper flying in to Europe via Paris instead of London.
Here's Eurostar's baggage regulation www.eurostar.com/rw-en/travel-info/travel-planning/luggage
Ha ha, I was just about to comment on yet another American calling a sea an ocean.
I bet you say buildings are being “constructed” when they are undergoing renovations / repair or reconstruction too. 😜
