I'm so relieved that the original soundtrack is intact :)
Its so unfitting now tho...jarring af :(
Giga Force -- they should have hired Hiroki Kikuta to do a fully arranged score like Secret of Mana Genesis.
Giga Force I would have preferred a full orchestral soundtrack.
I think the soundtrack will be updated lol this is just a demo XD
Pretty sure there is a re-imagined soundtrack, ive watched some other clips and the music changes further in the game. They either kept the music at the beginning for tap into nostalgia or they just havent composed that part of the game yet.
Shop keeper wasn't dancing. 1/10 do not buy!
Definitly. Btw. I always thought the dancing shopkeeper was a woman :/
Also boss is not exploding properly. 0.5/10
lets give them credit the boss still exploded it looks like they really did try to keep the game original while updating it
MogReturns yeah right, but he just falls down and has some small explosions around. In the original he turns red like lava and seems to scream in agony and then explodes.
yeah and i wish they still did that but it gives me hope that they still explode at all
Guy at comic con booth said it's not final voice acting. It sounds like they grabbed random interns for those cutscenes
could be worse.
Standard JRPG quality dub
I hope that is the case and they'll be hiring legit voice actors
seeing as the VAU Strike is over now, they might get some good ones.
lol
What's this "rabite takes a critical hit" nonsense? Everyone knows it's "rabite gets whacked!"
ugh so disappointing
WHACKED
Nah. Square was just more whimsical back in the day. When you had one person doing translations, and he was given lots of leeway on what he wrote, he could inject more personality into it. Also, The Secret Of Mana was one of the Square games that was bumping hard against memory limitations. Japanese is a much more condensed language that english. And back in this era, game memory was so small that text file size was actually something you had to worry about. As a result, any little thing you could do to save a few characters was beneficial to the overall game. Even iwth those changes, though, chunks of the Mana script had to be cut out in order to fit it on a cartridge.
I alwas liked the localised name "Pogopuschel" a lot more
Same sorta disappoint when treasure chest sound queue was wrong in newer Zelda game.
Why voice act without and mouth movements seems kind of lazy
Its 2017, not 1997.
HairyPooter agree
HairyPooter it's not that big of a deal. It still has it, so don't complain. We could have gotten nothing
They look like characters walking around an amusement park.
Vivian Pluto Let's hope you're right...
I love the classics like secret of mana. I wish we lived in a world where gems like this were made with the care and respect that they deserve. I'm glad they kept the music. They knew that much at least to leave alone.
Best part about this: You actually get to input your name properly without it being all in CAPS.
LordLukste Pokemon did this too until Gen 3
The sprites and look of the original game just has so much charm. It's hard to see 3D games like these and feel the same way about their aesthetics. 3D games always age with time but the original look is so timeless.
i'm 30 seconds in and i already want to know if i can turn off the voices
flikkerflash same here ^_^
Voice acting ruins games. Thankfully I could turn them off in I Am Setsuna. I hope I can do the same here.
I've been playing Secret Of Mana on the Wii Virtual Console, and this hurts my brain. The Voices, the Polygons. They way combat looks.... Ugh
@@JazGalaxy not necessarily it depends on the game. such as final fantasy7 remake the voices were wonderful
Why is the INN/Shopkeeper not dancing?
"What's a rabbi doing in a place like this?"
Oy vey!
Waiting for the priest and the minister to get to the bar so they can get their night going, obviously.
Why is the shopkeeper not DANCING
The Ram power of ps4 will not be able to process the amount of dancing from the shopkeeper. All that non stop dancing are you kidding me!?
G G njajajajaja
We live in the future were everything is dull. We can't have anyone dancing in a game can we?
I came here to post this, thank you.
They dance in the pc version
they went to the mass effect andromeda school of facial animations.
Is there an option to take the voice acting off?
NECRONOMICON EX MORTIS There's probably gonna be dual audio.
Hope so dont want to hear them every attack
Spoiling the nice music and all
NECRONOMICON EX MORTIS maybe. Maybe that's why the mouths don't move?
Yeah dont buy this pos and play the original. Problem solved.
The efff? Anyone else remember that boss being more difficult? I blinked at that junk was over
Yeah I think it was more harder lol think it had about 150HP lol maybe its just for show for now, hopefully they'll make them have their original HP..
Calculated the hits on this video, 167 damage .. hmmm
That's because we spent 90% of the fight being stunlocked. I really hope they fixed all that, it made the games combat insufferable even though I loved it anyway.
+Mr. Limekiller - You mean like when you get ganged up on by wolves as example and they keep hitting you and your character just stares at them ever so fondly? xD
Yeah this 3D boss has such a large hit box and such a small attack zone you just have to circle around and attack it from behind, kinda lame
@@MatthewScottH83 Yeah, it used to have some kind of magic that was impossible to and would leave you unconscious
Square, if you do the Chrono Trigger remake like this, you're officially lame.
Just forget about remakes, sequels and prequels. That is why the videogame industry is as it is right now.
I think they already are, for doing the Secret of Mana remake like this. This looks like a total hack job, and the voice overs aren't at all cohesive. What a wasted opportunity.
I'd take secret of evermore like this
Robert Cooling It's not final voice acting
Mouth Animations, use them devs..
bunchofpenguins they didn't talk in the original and no this is not "fine"
Ugh. If only I had money and worked in a company I would of made the game better. Starting mostly on the Switch than the mobile style fiascco.
SebTH1 this isn't the final version, is still in development. Think about it before saying that.
Uriel Septim lol how would you make it better? By throwing money at it?
That's not an excuse. If that were the case, there wouldn't be voice acting.
Gameplay looks good but the dialogue sounds pretty terrible and the lack of mouth movement makes it worse.
How does the menu work in the remake? Does it still work like that needlessly complicated circle in the old game? Or a regular rpg menu? And does the remake show/point where im supposed to go next? Or do i still have to use a youtube walkthrough just to see where to go next?
why is the boss weak? In original, he fires up his clows an he is very stronger. OMG
Yeah and it's attacks NEVER missed. I remeber it being almost impossible to defeat it without being resurrected once. But I was 9 back then... I'm still so annoyed the merchant wasn't dancing, though😭😭😭
The minimap being the exact map from the original SOM is a cute touch at least. This voice acting.... hurts a bit. Hope it's optional.
Well I know I'll be looking at the minimap instead of the rest of the game. Too bad enemies dont seem to show up there
The whole game could have been the original secret of mana and it would have been better than this load of garbage
I think I'd rather just play the original tbh.
MonkeySpaz5000 But the original's translation was mediocre due to cartridge space on the SNES. This game when compared side by side actually has more dialogue than the original.
The translation issues had nothing to do with cartridge size. The real reason the translation so bad is because Ted Woolsey was only given 30 days to do it. The original Japanese text was also programmed in a very disorganized way, adding further complications.
The game was originally going to be an extended CD release on the super nintendo add on. A lot was cut from the game in a short time when that project was scrapped.
There is a fan release with extended dialog thats been available for years on the internet.
Troy Schram II makes sense the third one seiken densetsu 3 was never released in the us partially because there was so much dialogue to translate it couldn't fit also it was very graphically advanced and the snes could barely handle it as it was. Still it's by far my favorite one in the series it's sad it's never been released outside of Japan and never even rereleased in Japan for that matter. I really hope they remake that like they are this one. It's too good of a game to be missed out on.
*table flip* Why is the shop-keep not dancing!? xD
please tell me you can turn off the voice acting
Love that the mini map is in 16-bit and looks like the OG game.
im dead sure it IS the original map on the minimap as little reference while the music is 1:1 original. I love it so far~
It seems to me it was taken from the mobile version of this game
If I can totally lower the voice acting sound, this can actually be a good experience. Also, the game looks quite easy when looking at the first boss (please Square, just stun lock me with Earth Crystals just like it should be ). Still, I really love how they are using the classic graphics for the mini-map, and the animations seem quite nice :)
do i need to use the bug in order to get the level 8 sword of mana?
So they shook the chest and then smashed it on the ground? I always thought they just smashed it several times to open it
2 things that bugs me:
- I wish that they would've made mouth movement with the voice acting.
- I would've also loved if the music would've been remastered (seems like it was taken right out of the SNES)
I might stick with Seiken Densetsu Collection unless we get this on switch.
PLA Addiction Music sticks out because sound and voice didn't get same treatment. Plus the dead air while you wait for voice to load.
i loved the old music, when they remaster it, i would like to still have the old one.
and the merchant is not dancing
Looks like a cell phone game
Its the port of the mobile game.
Melamamoduro It's a port of a SNES game.
Andrew Collins your joking right?
Its not a port, is a remake, there is a huge difference.
Andrew Collins It's a remake, not a port
To think I'm alive in the reality where this exists and Chrono Trigger Resurrection was cancelled.
EnthusedPanda im glad it was cancelled. Dont want it looking like a rushed mess like this game.
I wants my Chrono Trigger remake so baaaaad ... 😔
I agree
Is there gonna be an option to turn off voices and the minimap?
this deserves to be Triple A and not to be destroyed.
Secret of Mana is one of RPG's finest!
...and they will. This is only a demo. They got plenty of time until February (or till they decide to delay it) to make it The RPG's finest it is made to be.
Lol, 2 months is not time to turn a bad game into a good game. I think that's normally just bug-testing time, after the game is feature complete.
Sure but let's count from the day that video got posted. September. Not December when I made that comment. So not 2 months exactly. And this demo could be a very old build that Square decided to throw at us just because.
miiworld2 HAHAHA. THEY DIDNT FIX A THING
it really so hard to have mouth movement ? just make the mouth open and close I don't care if it matches the words, they remind me of sports mascot costumes. That's bad 👎
Yes. It really is that hard. And "hard" in this context means "time consuming" and "resource intensive".
JazGalaxy
They have 3D models it shouldn't be hard to have a mouth opening and closing that is extremely basic animation s***
Hearing Gemma's voice: Lee, is that you?
WOW! The music! The map that lets you see how the path used to be while also showing the updated grapics! The voice acting! just amazing... absolutely amazing... the bosses defeat, Can't wait to see more of this or play it!
Wish this was on the Switch. I'd rather play a game like this in handheld mode
ruffluffs It's on PS Vita
I won't have any problem running this on my GPD Win.
Me too.
ruffluffs nvidia moonlight for us pcbros
ruffluffs same and the graphics arent that demanding
I honestly think I'll just play the original. Haha
I love that they kept the music intact. This RPG was and is still fantastic.
Guys, this could just be a development build of this game. It'll probably look better in the future.
That mantis ant went down real quick
And whats with the music? Its the same one from Super Nintendo..I was expecting an updated one with new instruments, mostly an orchestral OST..
I was a little skeptical at first, with the visuals and voice acting, but the gameplay and music is fantastic. Can't wait to try out this classic.
How is the gameplay good, it is literally just a tedious waiting game. Makes no sense.
your name is Retro Soul yet your biggest criticism is it's retro game design...
There are plenty of 16-bit games with great game design friend and this is not one of them. Lttp, Beyond Oasis and Terranigma have top-down gameplay too but did it much better w/o asinine waiting, the sequel to this game was much superior too Seiken Densetsu 3. Scrapped the waiting for a fluid sensible combat system but we didn't receive it in the states.
Curtis yeah I agree that would have been better.
Check the price tag first
What did they do to SOM
Are all these attacks contextual or do they each get their own button ala Chivalry?
When is this out ?!
Release is Feb. 15, 2018
15 feb
what platform lol
Callum Watt ps4
Aryn Rasku - And PC, though I might get it on both xD
If anyone wants i have a petition on Change for SquareEnix to bring the Japanese Secret of Mana collectors edition to North America so we can celebrate the 25th anniversary properly.
I doubt they are going to overhaul it to be at the level the ff7 is going to be but they have a few months to tweak things around to hopefully give it the polish that will bring it more to life. Im being hopeful with my petition that i can rally enough support to show SquareEnix that North America is worthy of receiving the collectors edition that Japan gets.
TheForsakenWanderer I'd like to sign, you have a link?
Links dont show up on youtube when i post them go to Change . org and search Secret of Mana mines at the top of the list with 101 supporters as of this message.
link it pls
i don't know if the link will show but ill try
I don't get why everyone is freaking out about the graphics not being like the newer games we have now. I'd say this is put together very well seeing as it is a remake of a snes game. They kept some of the same looks and feel of the original game which I absolutely love. So what if the animations don't match the talking. It's not technically that they got lazy, it's the fact that this game is about 25 years old. I'm so happy about it. Keep up the good work. I cannot wait to play it again.
OH MY GOD.. NOSTALGIA! instant buy the moment i saw this...
They decide to remake one of the best RPGs of all time, and this is how they do it? It looks like some random game you'd find on an app store on your phone made with the budget consisting of what you and some friends found under the cushions of your couch.. I see literally no reason to play this version over the original. Secret of Mana deserves better, or just don't even remake it at all.
But the music sounds nice.
Matt Harvey its the same music from the snes game
Exactly.
Haha Dude, it's even worst: the only wonderful thing of it all is the OST: the only thing they didn't remaked hopefully, not even enhanced for 3D like surround system
Buddha Misanthrope yep people need to stop asking for remakes and let master pieces be masterpieces
They're just remaking an average action RPG for the SNES.
A very impressive Warcraft 3 mod.
I've seen better
No no no no no please don't say that Dx
on a positive note I love how you can see where you're going now
i played the game for SNES in 1999 when i was 11ish y.o. and i'm feeling old now
Is it just me or does it seem they could of tried harder? Just feels like something is missing
Yeah i noticed that the polish seems off, its like they tried to force the game into the I Am Setsuna/Lost Sphere engine (environment quality & fighting scenes seemed off mostly, boss character model did look good though). Before Zelda a Link Between Worlds came out on 3DS i wasn't sure exactly how a remake could be done of SNES type classics or i had only thought of bits and pieces of it, that game was the whole damn thing hehe and after playing that it wasn't hard to think of ways Secret of Mana could have been done in a similar way.
Well after looking into the fighting scenes again and comparing them to the original game it is actually ok (the dull looking sword threw me off a bit but that's just because it's easier to see now), but I still think the environment isn't as polished (I especially noticed the water graphics and it's limited motion and transparency).
They could try WAY harder. This is looking like a cheap cash grab
Armored Atlas agreed
I would have liked to play this game in 3rd person perspective kind of like final fantasy XV. I hope they also remake "The Secret Of Evermore" at least like this 😂😂
Would much rather have Seiken Densetsu 3 finally get an official english release instead.
Faytsshadow - Same here. But does Square Japan even know we've been playing their game with an unofficial translation since 2001?
My version of the ROM always crashed if i had the healer girl in my party at a certain point....
Most likely, the success of this release will be a gauge of whether or not the remake the sequel. Soooo... the battery in my SoM cartridge is iffy and sometimes i lose my saves... I plan on getting this, even if some of the cut scenes are questionable, as long as the gameplay is still solid.
ten seconds in and already hitting uncanny valley. HD visuals with mo-cap characters at 60fps makes everyone look like a costumed character at Disneyland.
WHY WAS HE NOT CHARGING THE SWORD? PLEASE SHOW ME WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE.
Man, even the font is lazy.
A.N. Roman Damn, you're right 🤣🤣🤣
I miss when it says Rabite gets whacked! That was part of the charm!
A.N. Roman --- Just find the rom and play the variable width font version made by FuYoSa.
😂
Kek
Looks like a prototype....what happened to SE....?
One of the most nostalgic things about that game, for me, was the bosses models' flickering of color when they were defeated. I will still play this if it's ever released, but that's really a big bummer.
Oh man that music....so much nostalgia. I have this OST and 3's in my google music. Love it!
Meanwhile we can turn the Voice acting off and added stuff that was originally removed from the original game or some extras to make it worth its price then it will be fine.
Otherwise its just milking nostalgia.
Milking nostalgia would be rereleasing the original game....LIKE ALL OF US WANT THEM TO (and would make them tons of $$$). But instead we get this excrement of a turd.
While animations and vocal delivery need work, it looks like a really great remake. Randi's VA matched what I thought he would sound like and it makes it all the better for me. Particularly loved the touch where the 16 maps are the minimap now.
This looks amazing! I will definitely pick this up, watching this makes me feel nostalgic 😄😁 I wonder if they'll remake Secret Of Evermore?
Did I miss the part where you can lv.1 change the sword?
I just noticed the first boss was gimped(He doesn't block and trow ranged attacks anymore), i wonder what else got casualized.
You originally had endless revives on the first boss and his moves were impossible to avoid (like ACTUALLY impossible), so it was just an endless cycle of dying and slashing until it ended. Depending on how often he decided to use certain moves you could be locked in the cycle for minutes more than you were supposed to. This new version of the first boss is a dramatic improvement over the old game and honestly something I was hoping. In short, the first boss was not made any easier, just less annoying and time consuming.
Melamamoduro
u couldn't even win the first fight, it doesnt matter what he can and can't do
I am kinda mad about the minimap in this... like... really...Really? And yeah the boss seems pretty lame... For me it does not feel that this made the game less annoying and time consuming, but soulless, easy and boring.
If the game was all about spending not too much time into it, then why bother playing these games at all. If I want quick juicy nice feelings I play Candy Crush or something like that, but not an RPG that can include grinding etc.
The animations, graphics and music take me back to the ps2/gamecube days. I want this so bad right now!
The music takes me back to when I played the original game in 1993/1994.
in fact the music is straight out of the SNES, no changes were made! xD
Why did they change the verbiage of the critical hits? I miss it saying "Rabite gets whacked!" hopefully that gets changed!
This just brought many many tears of joy to an OLD mans eyes. I spent soooo many hours on this game back when I was 16 years old. Man As far as I can tell. (aside from the bad voice acting) and somewhat updated GFX (Still looks like it belongs on a PS2 though) the Game right down to the Text and combat system is exactly like it was when I Played and replayed and replayed this again and again 24 years ago!
Voice acting provided by: your local 3rd grade classroom!
Still, hyped for one of my favourite games ever!
It's JEMA, dammit! Not "Gemma"! *flips over table*
Maybe it's the japanese name they used.
Well i know him as viktor
Nope he was Gemma in the version I played. “Gem” “ma”
Fun with localization!
Hey! That was an expensive table, flip it over again!
When do we get Seiken Densetsu 3 done with this engine?
My head just exploded. This is my childhood and I need this.
it'd be a lot better with no voice acting at all whatsoever.
Why they haven't put in lip-syncing?
Also, if there will be a remake of Seiken Densetsu 3, then there will be a remake of Legend of Mana, right?
My soul needs urgently a remake of Legend of Mana...
But please, not like this...
There should be a third BGM (“Sound Source”) option: “Resynth”, which is an instrument-for-instrument arranger based directly on the original.
Love that forest track, it's so etheral.
This is a half-assed money grab. Couldnt you let this series die with dignity.
I'm not a big fan of this new low 3D stuff :/ . Also Chibi Style not necessarily mean low 3D, look at Dragon Quest Builder characters, even blocks edges are smooth. In this remake every polygons look so sharp and oudated...
i hear the voice of the Sword aaaand Story busted, because in the Original Secret of Mana it is said that the Voice that speaks to him was His Mother who became the Mana Tree not some Random Guy.
Will this version be missing two weapon orbs as well?
How dare they put in a loading screen in this game....
This is a joke right? Gaming hasn't fallen this hard has it? Surely no one thinks this is acceptable.
well, the casuals seem to be hyped for it...? I am freaked out by the minimap and that 1st boss... Past generations were able to beat the game without any of that and with unfair stunlock and random AI... next generations can't? Is this an insult to humanity?!
I was hyped for it... but then I saw and heard it :/ would have been able to be really awesome if made right...
I like that the map mimics the appearance of the classic 16 bit graphics.
i like that the map in the top corner is in original graphics
Terranigma and Chrono Trigger next please
If they do chrono trigger remake... they better do the voice acting and mouth interactions alot better then this remake of secret of mana.... cuz you dont take short cuts when it comes to a master piece and chrono trigger is a rpg made into perfection.
I'd rather they not remake Terranigma if they're gonna do it like this...
If they do Terranigma, i demand Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia, too!
But... If it's a good remake, then everyone will finally love the game!
nutellajack I would rather see a proper remake of FF6, but I'm not sure they could do it justice.
Seems cool but i'd rather play this on my snes instead
Not sure which I'm more impressed with, the fact they voiced every inconsequential line, or that they used the original map as the minimap.
wow that music brought back some memories.
Common Spongebob squarepants Surfer dude voice actor for Randi
Lol
DUDE HE MADE ME EXPERIENCE HIGH TIDE AHAHAHAHA
Is it me or the boss was really weak than the real version ?
They didn't weaken theboss, they made him less time consuming. In the original, you had infinite revives (you needed them) and were at the mercy of a AI roulette. If the boss spammed certain moves, you could be stunlocked for minutes longer than neccessary. In the remake, they realized that and removed the bosses unavoidable attacks (probably the revive mechanic too since it's no longer needed). They didn't weaken him, just removed the unneccessary elements.
I got a mini snes and no hes super easy
oh man this looks amazing I can 't wait to play this game game it brings back so many fond memories of being a kid in front of my old tube tv and SNES playing this awesome game , those days were so good, it was before the world took my hopes and dreams and smashed them into little pieces
Lets be happy this amazing game from our childhood is getting a "graphic update". this is just the 1st few mins of this remake so lets not pre judge the entire game just yet. Im sure the rest of the game will blow us all away with nostalgia. i am happy they left the original BGM in tact. i love that the mini map has the original sprites. would be amazing if there was a difficulty +. i for one am extremely excited to play this again. Just hearing the battle music makes me feel all tingly inside. My Son just turned 4 and just recently got his hands on a game controller. makes me smile that he will get to play this classic and cherish it just like i did.
I really like Secret of Mana, but why am I not excited? And why does it look like it's for the PS2?
because it feels like a soulless cash grab that got no love from mommy Square and tries to make the game appealing to casual players?
that is rather disrespectful to the PS2 you know.... I've seen games in the PS2 that looked a 1000 times better than this.
How disappointing. I'll just go replay the SNES version instead.
Fighting the boss is like fighting my grandma
Why does he have to shake the chests before opening them?
Wait this is a real thing? I thought it was fan made honestly. That voice acting is pretty subpar...
It was like this in Trials Of Mana, but at least it was funny rather than concerning.
the boss in this remake is a joke. wtf
Kuro Kazuma ,it is the 1st Boss.
Mantis Ant was a joke in the original game too considering you had Jemma revive you infinitely if you fell. Also if you were properly leveled and had all the gear you could get to that point. Plus, a first boss. Spikey Tiger in this version will be the first real hurdle more than likely(least it was for me) then The Fire Temple.... *shudders*
The mantis ant was so weak.
it does look hilariously cheesy, where as the original looked like a BA... also never saw it cast gem missile
But the first Boss was realy hard :D
Wow ! This is so cool! Old sountrack and the Mini map looks like its straight out of the snes game
I'll never get tired of that music.
