Really? That’s super cool, do you need to be crouched for a certain amount of frames first or is it just like: an extra big jump squat giving you extra height and as long as you crouch and jump you get it off? I’m also assuming you can jump directly out of crouch? Sorry for all the questions lol, super excited for this game and to try this version of my greninja/shiek counterpart!
Some extras that weren't in the video: The primary use of "Terry" is as a tether target! The game displays the tether input next to your character portrait You can angle Clairen's neutral special up and down when doing it in the air Ranno has a super jump when you crouch before jumping Orcane has a slide mechanic by running, turning around, and then quickly holding shield (or other moves) Orcane also can increase the height of their up B recovery by inputting up B immediately after a double jump or wall jump. This can help recovering without a puddle. If you do have a puddle out you can also press the shield button during the up B to not teleport to it.
@@petrikillosAlmost all of these mechanics are completely one for one from Rivals 1 so for the most part you could probably go and play the character tutorials in 1 for a rundown. Tbh I don't think they're tedious like the video said because they're fully optional but they do give a LOT of good info unlike games like smash.
@@readyplayerthree3 The orcahop cancel one is nowhere to be seen in the RoA 1 tutorials. Not even Zetter's pity flip is explained. Played them all, they are really fun.

3:06 every character in this game has a special pummel that doesn't count as a secret 😭 I would have just talked about how neural special can be angled and stalls you in the air so you can demolish ppl in edgeguards
Really well made and informative video but there definitely could've been more things mentioned! A few more things I wanna add for new players: Zetterburn's down special will be able to be canceled into a jump (even if you've already used your double jump) after a certain amount of time Loxodont's dash attack has extended range when used over magma (doesn't use a magma charge) Loxodont can use side special on his boulder and will throw it directly downwards Loxodont's down throw usually puts the opponent in a tech situation, but if it's used over a magma puddle, it'll pop them up instead Ranno's fully charged Forward Strong has a strong projectile that gets shot forward Forsburn can hold side special after having a clone out to call it to him, and will launch himself forward (very useful for recovery!) Forsburn can hold special or forward during his ledge special to launch himself forward instead of the clone Not exactly useful or character specific, but pressing taunt in the air will put you into tumble This is all I can think of for now, I hope this helps anyone who reads it! edited to take out the forsburn tips that aren't in rivals 2
If you hit Ranno's down b bubble with his neutral b "shurikens", they ricochet off of it. This can be used for offstage pressure and platform pressure.
Forsburn can now use his clone to boost himself in the air. Returning from the first game, a clone spawned while he is fully charged from down special can sometimes attack opponents on its own. You can force it to attack by pressing the special button.
In Rivals 1, Forsburn actually also gets his double jump back when he up specials into a smoke cloud and doesn't go into free fall. He can do that up to two times without touching the ground before going into free fall the next time he tries it. Also, I didn't know that it Fleet's regular pummel was the one that threw out food, so that's good to know. Does the special pummel apply a delayed damage effect like her charged arrows, then?
In the earlier betas Fleet's normal pummel was strictly damage, and her special pummel spawned two food items. In recent betas they changed it so her normal pummel spawned one item and her special applied the wind explosion to the grabbed enemy.
I played almost 500 hours of rivals 1 and I legit had no idea about the forsburn recovery tech. After Ori Forsburn was one of the characters I struggled against. This knowledge definitely would have shaken up the match up for me.
@@OrangeSamarai so far its great; i think the ranking system is a bit punishing for new players based on complaints ive seen. Im having a good time myself since im decent at platform fighters. I like clairen, waiting on Olympia to be added
For Lox, I think it’d be way more useful to point out that his dash attack and down throw are empowered by lava pools: Dash attack flings lava for more range and down throw bounces them rather than grounds them. The smash attacks are the most “obvious” uses of charge, but I’ve found lots of people who didn’t realize dash attack used the lava pool.
that's really helpful to know as I couldn't help but find Lox's dash attack felt very slow and weak, now I know it's meant to be enhanced with magma pools.
@@BronzeAgePepper yeah it’s not really apparent if you’re not looking for it but it helps, can reach off stage and at that distance you’re less likely to get beaten to death for throwing a dash attack lol
These are all really obvious to figure out on your own even if you're new to Rivals. Orcane is probably the only exception, but that technique also exists in Rivals 1 if you equip the rune for it in Abyss mode. Here are actual somewhat obscure techniques for every other character (Kragg's side-B cancels is also helpful, but I'll still include him since he has a treasure trove of tech): *Zetterburn:* A number of characters can cancel the startup of dash attack with an Up-Smash to quickly move themselves more distance during the startup of Up-Smash than doing it out of a normal dash (DACUS technique from Brawl). Zetterburn is one of the few characters who can cancel during the _hit_ of his dash attack and make a two-hit combo ending with Up-Smash, like Falco can in Brawl. *Ranno:* Fully charging F-Smash sends out a big, fast projectile with long range. Another technique from the selectable runes in Rivals 1's Abyss mode. He can superjump from the ground by holding down and pressing jump, it might be helpful on standard controllers to bind a button to Walk Modifier to allow this to be quickly done from a platform without dropping down off of it. Lastly he can hold down-B to move his bubble around freely and then hit it with his tongue from side-B to slingshot off of it. Wrastor: When charging Down Smash in the air, he can move side-to-side very slightly to help aim it before releasing. *Kragg:* Both he and opponents will go into special fall if standing on top of a pillar when it's destroyed, Kragg can take advantage of this by creating a new pillar to destroy the old one. He can also cancel his dash attack on hit with tilts. *Fleet:* Can stick her timebomb arrows to an opponent with the last hit of jab, and regain a bomb arrow stock if one gets stuck in the ground and she touches it. Touching the tornado created by side-B while she's floating will send her high into the air and continue her floating. *Maypul:* When Terry is out, she can tether to the edge it was planted on. Another one even more vital to helping her recover is the "helicopter" technique, using up-air immediately after a double jump, giving her significantly more height. *Clairen:* Can mix up her air momentum using down-B while a forcefield is already out, and angle her neutral-B up or down when used in the air. Side-B puts her in special fall, but she can act out of it if she hits the sweetspot. *Loxodont:* Magma pools not only grant stocks to enhance various moves but also enhance dash attack and down throw when used on top of them. The first hit of his forward tilt can be cancelled into an up or down tilt to start combos. *Forsburn:* Using Up-B to teleport into a smoke cloud will not put him in special fall like it normally does, he can do this up to two times before the third teleport applies special fall. Inputting side-B near his clone has the clone fling him forward for a fast burst movement attack (new to Rivals 2 I think).
The bounce on orcane is nice and all but talking about orca hopping for added height or forward air to boost backwards are much more important as those are very important recovery tools
such obscure secret techniques like: basic explanations of individual characters' grab pummels, specials, Lox's down B consuming magma stocks, and Wrastor having air-only smash attacks.
