Scandinavian design is continually evolving and there's a move towards bringing warmth and more organic textures and shapes into their modern design. When we hear the term "modern" design many of us think of the old contemporary design of the Miami Vice days. So many of us think cold with lots of white. Warm Scandi is the total opposite of this design style and we can't get enough of it.
We recently visited Copenhagen, Denmark and were able to visit a few of our favorite shops Illums Bolighus, Vipp and Tine K home. Come and shop with us as we explore this amazing design trend that we're calling "Warm Scandi."

As a Scandinavian. What i usually pick is real earth materials. Real wood, real marble, real Stone. Things that are quality. We live in smaller apartments. And i feel like material matter when you can only pic a few things. I think before i buy things. And i like natural color that i dont get tired of. 💖 We need to think alot about light in our homes. Because it is so dark in the Winter. We use loots of ambiant lighting. Blankets. I get why people find it cozy

Thanks so much for mentioning marble and stone as well. When I search Scandinavian design on pinterest, it's mostly wood elements. I'm new to the style, so knowing that marble and stone are in their too is really nice😊

@@trulydearlybianca Yes marble, Stone, wool, cotton, wood, everything that comes from the earth basicly 😊 quality over quntity 😊 and we do like lightrr furniture Just because it is very dark here in the vinter. Aspecially light wood floors

@@leoprg5330 yeah my mother has a Black dining room. But i would say lighter colors are more Scandinavian. We do love Black kitchen though. I think that is one of the most trendiest kitchen colors atm.

More Scandi please!! I was initially drawn to Scandinavia because I love scandi noir books and tv series. Once I discovered the design aesthetic I was completely in love. It really speaks to me. I also love all things French, French Modern and Scandi really compliment each other.
My hope is that you can spend a summer there and take us along🤞🏾
    Tak!

09:10 wow, so pretty. I tell my husband all the time that when we have a baby and design a nursery, muted color tones are a must! And vintage toys. All of the modern day, bright neon plastic bothers my eyes.
10:57 couldn't agree more!! I also dislike bright white LED lights that you commonly see at a hospital. I get that moody, low light life. Very pretty.

You are very blessed to be able to enjoy, share your ideas with your viewers. You are inspiring to change my messy home into living a simple life. Yes, you should share and revisit different parts of your journey when visiting overseas. The colors of the decor mixing with metals are the same that I have around my messy home. I say messy bc it isn't in order. I am working on it bits and pieces to remove, donate and trash what is not needed. Deep down I know what I can say it's my own decor. My ideas to put into perspective to see and say and identify this is my home. At this moment of my life, it's been in shambles for over 40+ years. That is not cool at all. With that said, could you continue to inspire how, what could help to keep me inspired during this journey? Continue in doing what you are doing. I know it's high end decor. There are so many ideas that can be taken into perspective and apply it to make it your own. That is unbelievable! Thank you and your entire family. Many safe endeavors.

One thing that would be wonderful for a next trip is maybe to be able to tour an actual home, flat, apartment where these designs are incorporated into everyday lives for families , single people, etc and their point of view on selecting these same materials. Just a thought.

No matter how my style evolves, Scandinavian design has always been a base because it never gets old. The simplicity but attention to detail where it matters, the smooth lines, I mean you can't go wrong. I live in Canada but I was lucky enough to buy/find (theres a lot of boring stuff here) a loft apartment that has a very Scandinavian feel with pitched ceilings and skylights and white walls and attention to natural light. So I will always bring Scandinavian style into my home.

Capture pictures of the "look" and then go thrift shopping. Also, stores like Ikea have reasonable prices on dishes and decor, you could slowly begin to adopt the style. Mid century modern furniture is all over the place, sometimes at garage sales, that is the clean lines to look for.

The first living room tables we purchased in 1968-69 after we married were of Scandinavian design. Beautiful wood and clean lines. Over the years my daughter has used them in her homes. She still has one of the three pieces and she really gravitates towards a spare look. We also bought a beautiful floor lamp: stainless base with a super skinny wood pole with an opaque mushroom-shaped glass top. The top broke at some point but my daughter found a replacement so she could use it as part of her decor.

As a Danish designer I find that there are a few common pitfalls that you see when Americans attempt to adopt Scandinavian interior design. 1) They have a hard time giving up on using weird patterns everywhere. You see it for example with regards to tiles that are often offset or even diagonal. 2) What they consider simple still has too much ornamentation. You often see this with furniture or skirting boards featuring romantic beveled edges and such for no reason. 3) They are allergic to white space. There are too much furniture, it is too big and it is placed to close together.

I’d love for you to open your own store and have it with international shipping, I’m here for that, also, I think it would be cool if you organised a trip back as a tour guide that some of your subscribers could tag along with you so that you could show us all the places to shop, I’d be very interested in that, having you as our personal tour guide V, even if I didn’t purchase much Lol 😂, I’d be there for all the great restaurants and just the lifestyle culture seeing it all through your eyes, that would be very Cool. Cheers from Nellie 💙💖

Wow, Valentina! Jack, thank you for the slow panned shots. I felt like we were there with you! I for sure thought one of the kids were going to say: “I had one of these!” , when you went through the nursery section. Love love love this channel, you guys!

I have visited all of those shops also and enjoyed them all and tried to get to all the design shops when I went for a long weekend from Canada. Also liked the 2 Stilleben shops and bought prints from there for my home and had them framed. One of my best cities, along with London of course. Thanks for sharing and showing me again this beautiful city.

Hi Valentina, thank you for showing Illums Bolighus. They are in Norway too. I am about to invest in a new diningroom set. I have what I call a chair "from every village", meaning i have 3 Muuto chairs, 2 old scandi hand me downs (Budal stol/chair) and a couple of mahogany chairs in the shed, for when I have many guests. I have been trying Carl Hansen Y-chair, it is comfortable, and a plain expandable dining room table in white oak. I am going to Sweden next month with my work, I am so excited to explore interior stores for inspiration. 🙂 I would love it if you made another video on dining rooms, and especially Scandinavian design.

You mentioned your kids rooms were beautiful. I was hoping maybe you could tell us a little about some brands for kids rooms. I have small children and I like creating play corners so I can watch them, but a lot of things just clash with the rest of the home. Definitely open a shop!
