Couldn't disagree more strongly, Melo had his best years in Denver. The Knicks did squat in his years there. And it's not a question of obligation. Melo completely turned the Nuggets franchise around from a perennial garbage team into regular winning and playoffs every year. He handled the trade situation with class and by going via trade instead of free agency the Nuggets got a huge haul from the Knicks including a draft pick that became Jamal Murray. The Nuggets owners have been petty. They should have kept the #15 so they could retire Melo's number and given Jokic another number so his jersey could eventually join Melo's in the rafters here.

I have been a Nuggets fan all my life and when Melo was drafted, I cheered even more, because Carmelo was a Great player. But when he forced his way out of Denver, I was upset and the fan base didn't appreciate his actions. But now, with that being said, NIKOLA JOKIC will go down as the greatest Nuggets player of all time. He is a walking Legend in his prime. I was born and raised in Denver,Co and Melo was the reason I even got into watching basketball. He made the Nuggets fun to watch and became my favorite player. With that said, the way he left Denver left a sour taste in fans and the organizations mouths. He did a lot for the Nuggets, but to make Jokic change numbers isnt fair to Jokic. Melo was a good player, but Jokic is a great player. I think if Melo left denver in better terms we wouldnt even be having this arguement. If you seen the actual video, he’s not crying. He felt a way once Jokic came on the court wearing 15 in general. It’s more about the organization having a nasty taste in their mouth compared to Jokic. Imagine a Magic player wearing 12 and that person going and winning a chip and two mvps and now you can’t retire Dwights jersey. That’s crazy. This is an unique situation. While I understand why Melo would say something, he has to accept that Jokic has simply accomplished more than him. He brought a title to the city, won multiple MVPs, great ambassador of the team, etc. There's levels to this.

Also, Nuggets brought back the same team after the WCF and they lost in the first round against Utah, whose most notable player was Milsap. And still had that team the year of the trade. Martin and Chauncey were older and declining, but the team had brought in 2 young promising players in Lawson and Afflalo. What exactly did Melo want the team to do? It's not the team's fault that the West is so loaded and usually had to face a 60 win team led by an MVP right away in the first round despite Nuggets winning over 50 games.

Jokic wore number 15 before going to the League. But the organization lets him wear that number shows how little value Melo impacted. 3. Melo force himself out of Denver in 2011 to NYC while the picks Denver from the trade became the second-best player in the Nuggets is Jamal Murray. 4. I was born and raised in Denver,Co and Melo was the reason I even got into watching basketball. He made the Nuggets fun to watch and became my favorite player. With that said, the way he left Denver left a sour taste in fans and the organizations mouths. He did a lot for the Nuggets, but to make Jokic change numbers isnt fair to Jokic. Melo was a good player, but Jokic is a great player. I think if Melo left denver in better terms we wouldnt even be having this arguement. The way Melo left he did it in a way where it felt like idgaf i just want out mentality. So to see him crying now about not retiring his jersey is kinda funny to me. It's not the team's fault that the West is so loaded and usually had to face a 60 win team led by an MVP right away in the first round despite Nuggets winning over 50 games.

Dont even put Melo in the same sentence as Jokic. Jokic is on the path to greatness while Melo never matured until the last minute. Skills and stats aside Jokic hands down has the better attitude and locker room presence. Its incomparable, Jokic is hands down better.

I respect Melo as a player, but he was being petty at the podcast.
1. Nuggets didn't know how valuable Jokic was until now considering he's in the second round of the 2014 draft.
2. Jokic wore number 15 before going to the League. But the organization lets him wear that number shows how little value Melo impacted.
3. Melo force himself out of Denver in 2011 to NYC while the picks Denver from the trade became the second-best player in the Nuggets is Jamal Murray.
4. Melo was a scorer, a selfish one at that, while Jokic is more of a contributor, a passing savant, and a unselfish player who plays for the team, not himself. He could've scored 40 points if he wanted or more but he'd rather let his teammate to get the job done.
5. Jokic has gave Denver something Melo was craving in his years in the NBA: An MVP, a Larry O'Brien trophy, and a Finals MVP.
Carmelo had 2.7 assists per game. Him and Kobe were GREAT for the 12 for 27 games, and three assists. He didn't win squat, for a reason.

What’s the problem with just retiring both number 15, Melo deserves his jersey to be up there n the rafters just like the joker. Melo did his thing in Denver when they drafted him in 03 . The nuggets weren’t nothing before Melo got there wasn’t even irrelevant. Mind you yes the joker is doing his thing kinda surpassed him with the Denver nuggets. I believe Melo done more for the nuggets than the knicks just my opinion. All I’ll say is melo has a worse resume in Denver than Tatum already has in Boston. If Tatum retired or left the team today, they aren’t retiring his number.

Fat Lever and Mutumbo have their jerseys retired for the Nuggets. Melo had a much better Nuggets career than both - during an era where the West was a nightmare. Retire both 15s. Give melo a sky blue banner to match the jersey from that era.
Carmelo actually did more with less. Denver was a playoff exit without Murray they giving jokic all credit when he has a team. So, when Melo brought up jokic in the discussion, it does him a disservice imo because the real issue is denver not honoring him (different debate, but i completely understand why they wouldn’t) but now, we’re stuck comparing Melos denver numbers vs Jokics denver numbers, and ofc Jokic has more accolades as a Nugget, so the number gets associated with him more now. Melos my guy, but I wish this discussion had gotten cooked up with the proper context instead of what it is now, just a comparison-fest of Melo/Jokic.
