Not in Denver.
Plus, Melo didn't do squat and Jokic is just a player, real player by the way, and all-time great, that is just playing for the Nuggets and making the franchise great as well. But because he's not black and a famous or clique guy, it's allowed for him to catch such drivel and for Melo to just bullshit the whatever.
Here's a summary of comments below in one sentence: Jokic wore 15 his entire life, he was drafted in the 2nd round during a Taco Bell commercial and the Nuggets had no idea Jokic was going to be a superstar, other Nuggets wore 15 after Melo left and Melo demanded to be traded to the Knicks.
In order for someone to jeopardize your legacy, you first have to have a legacy. Melo had no legacy! He never won anything & never led Nuggets to any successes. If I remember correctly, he demanded a trade from Denver & shat the bed. PS: I would be very surprised if Jokic even knew who Melo was.
Melo was overrated inefficient ball hog that never won anything and team cancer, he never played any defense and was trae young level bad defensively. Going to WCF once and never winning anything is not worty having your jersey retired and thats facts

There is huge difference on Carmelo Anthony and Nikola Jokic. One was a first found draft pick, and he was an underachiever. The second was a second round pick, and he was an overachiever.

Your average number 3 pick isnt making 10 allstars, 3 olympic golds and a few all nba. Yeah he could have been even better but he is far from an underachiver. A guy like Beasley, number 2 pick and similar skills coming out of college is an underachiever
This is very sad. Carmelo looks like he regrets how he left Denver and wants a do over. Unfortunately that is not possible. Younger players need to look at this situation. Once your playing days are done, you don’t want to have any regrets.
Yeah they let the number go because he was an immature d head, gave them only one team as a trading partner, and left talking smack about the city. And anytime he brings up Denver it's always in this confrontational type way, so he never lets the dust settle to the point where the city would welcome and recognize him and do an enshrinement of some sort. It's sad he's not a part of our legacy, and contrary to what Gil says here, his best and most winning years were in Denver. Melo knows that.
@@daldladlamelo wish detroit drafted him not denver he said this plenty times he would have bout 4 rings tbh would of won his first 2 years detroit was in finals those 2 years
That man don’t have no regrets. He’s just jealous of the success Jokic is having. Melo has always been self centered. He actually thought he deserved a farewell tour like DWade.
Melo had the chance to be the unquestioned face of a franchise's entire history, but he took it for granted and now someone else seized that opportunity. It wasn't his fault that the West was full of monsters that he couldn't overcome, but it's not the organization's fault either because they built good teams around him. If he truly wanted to leave so he can win, there were tons of better choices than the Knicks, and that's before even taking into consideration all the assets Knicks had to give up to get him. The real reason Melo wanted to go there is so he and his wife can live a celebrity lifestyle. After leaving Melo got to see that the grass is not always greener elsewhere because he only made the playoffs once with the Knicks despite being an easier conference, plus the fans and team turned on him for not winning. Pettiness starts from Melo's side because not once have I ever heard him say anything thankful about his time in Denver, and even announced his retirement as soon as Nuggets clinched their Finals spot. K-Mart, Nene, Chauncey, J.R, Birdman, Camby, Iverson, Andre Miller and pretty much every other Nugget has shown appreciation about their time there despite not being drafted by them or even if they experienced more success elsewhere.
I can't imagine how many rings Lebron or Wade would've gotten with those rounds of players from different phases of the late 2000s. Years spent having it good, and without truly having a year that went bad from that team perspective.
How in the hell are you so wrong plz stop talking out ya ass and look up the facts! The Nuggets were a decent playoff team out west his whole career and underdogs in almost every series! They out-played a high seeded Mavs team and played 5 close games against the champion Lakers in the WCF with a trash coach. The organization didnt want to go over the cap and they made the team worse. He left cause he wanted to win and play in NYC. Knicks made the playoffs the first 3 seasons with Melo and then once all the talent left or got old Melo started dealing with serious injuries that robbed his athleticism.
Giannis and Ray Allen both drafted by the Bucks share #34, however Giannis will be the player whos number is retired for the team. It is about the bigger legacy left upon the Franchise
"Not this soon?" 🙄 Anthony Randolph wore Nuggets #15 from 2012 to 2014. Melo left in 2011. Jokic was drafted in 2014, arrived in US in 2015. So the claim is Denver played the long game and gave pick number 41, Jokic the #15 four years after Melo left and Randolph wore it for two seasons. But hey, why do 2 sec of research? Even without Randolph this was the whiniest, dumbest thing on internet thinking that a team waa counting on a 2nd rounder to erase the memory of an all star.
Growing up in Yugoslavia, our team had numbers cowering positions, just like in Football, Soccer) 1 Golly, 2,3 Backs,4,5,6 defensive center halfs,7 right wing, 8,10 attacking midfielder, 9 Center forward 11 Left winger,13 reserve Golly and so on! 15 in basketball was Center,,1 playmaker guard, 5 Starting Center, but in 70s it became much less rigid!

Jersey retirements should be for being pivotal in winning multiple chips, changing an entire franchise’s future/culture or for being an all time great. Let me know which one Melo was at Denver and I’ll get back to you with some empathy for him being in his feelings about something that in other sports is seen as the highest compliment.
Sadly, there was a time when Melo did change the entire course of the Denver Nuggets future. He took a team that had averaged 29 wins a season the four years before he got there and hadn't made the playoffs in 8 years and immediately led them to a 43 win season and a playoff birth. He really did have an electric effect on the team, he just didn't appreciate what exactly he brought and he was more concerned with his own stats and being a celebrity than he was with winning the whole thing. Had he stayed, and had they even won just one title, we would not be having this discussion right now. But, as they say, hindsight is 20/20.
Melo put the nuggets on the map. They hadn’t had that type of media coverage since alex english, or when they beat the 1st seed. Thats like saying vince shouldn’t have his jersey retired in Toronto(which it probably won’t) but he put toronto on the map

Sorry Melo, maybe the Knicks will retire your jersey.
That's all true, but we also have the benefit of having seen this much of Jokic's career. Like Kenyon said, there was no way of knowing any of the MVPs or the ring was going to happen when Jokic came in as a mid 2nd round pick. The fact that the number 15 was even available to begin with is the issue that most people ha e an issue with. Yes, Melo left, but if you remember what was happening with the team at the point, the franchise was offloading all their relevant talent. The Nuggets weren't blameless at the time.
I love jokic but melo got them to the conference finals, how many times have the nuggets been there before him? 0. To say he did nothing in denver is ridiculous, without melo the denver before didn't have an identity. Nevertheless he left awfully which is why he will never get his jersey retired

Why is this only becoming a problem NOW? Yeah, it was "disrespectful" at the time it was done. But now, Jokic has a title, a Finals MVP and a 2 time MVP. He's played more games as a Nugget, he's now a bigger Nugget than Melo was. So.. they got it right? I know Gil wore Orlando 1 to honor Penny but that was weird too. Penny was special they shouldn’t have let anyone wear 1 after him even T-Mac. Him, Dwight 12 and Shaq 32 should be retired. Maybe even Nick’s 25 since he holds so many Orlando all-time records.

A fellow "anti Shaq" guy!! The ULTIMATE PROOF Shaq is unworthy is Orlando doing this for "35th anniversary"!!! That's just a "ticket seller/please pay us some attention". When LAL retired Shaq's jersey, THEY MADE A DAY FOR IT!! They didn't wait until "50th anniversary of the franchise"!! This is like ESPN making up awards sp LeBron turns up cos he won't attend unless he's winning cos he's a star not an audience member!!! No Well how many 30ppg seasons did he have at least? 0 -Really, at 6'8? Allen Iverson was 5'11 and has 4x the scoring titles, all during a far slower paced, and defensively tougher era. Take away half of Jokic's accolades and he still destroys Melo's resume. Melo should keep his mouth shut, especially since it's a crime that he made the NBA#75 team ahead of Dwight, Manu, Pau, Webber, Wallace, Dikembe, Tmac, Billups etc.
For the first time Gil said something solid....much respect. Melo doesn't have a point; he wanted out of that franchize from the moment he got there; he is trying to rain on Nikola's parade
Melo was petty when Jeremy Lin was getting the attention at NY and now hes petty with Nicola with this? He forced himself out of Denver. Sorry Melo the world doesnt revolve around you.
He left the team 4 years earlier on bad terms and wasn't a guy who won them a title. You don't retire everybody's number. Secondly Jokic took that number because it's been his number his entire life.
It's good to have the opportunity to see K-mart on the reg. Big respect! The most embarrassing of all numbers is when LeBron wore 23 in Cleveland. They should have retired that number league wide. Nobody is MJ but MJ
Huh? What would they do that? Did MJ win a championship for Cleveland? No. So why would they retire his number when he's a divisional rival? And why didn't the Wizards retire his number? Because he didn't win anything with them. Why should teams like The Lakers, Detroit. Celtics, Jazz, Knicks retire that number when Jordan didn't play for them, win for them, and even cost them success and championships? This is a dumb take. Whether Jordan is the GOAT or not, it makes zero sense to retire his shirt league-wide. That is soft AF.
Take that retire league wide with a grain of salt guys, it is unrealistic. I'm just making a point that numbers and legacy are intertwined. The amount of fumes coming from both of you just spell LeBron ball lickers. How embarrassing was it with 23 tho hey? Can't undo that one hahaha
Idk who it was but jokic wasn’t even the first player to wear 15 for Nuggets after melo left… Melo is my favorite baseball player ever but his take on this is an L. Gil is right Melo will always be more a Knick than a Nugget

Im not arguing with whyte people or kids born after 2004. They the only ones who hate on Melo cause he black and carried the nuggets. But now that jokic is their skin color. They will highly praise him. Im happy he won us a championship but he didnt carry us from the jump. Took him 4 years to het us to the playoffs. He was not that good at first. Melo carried us from his rookie year! Thats the difference between them two. Both deserve 15 to be retired but 15 should have never been given to Jokic cause of melo legacy. But Denver was mad he left. Which I understand which makes Melo point right. They were petty
Jokic has 2 MVPs, a finals mvp and will not leave, melo doesn’t care about winning, never a finals appearance and will play less years on the nuggets And stop bringing up skin color, you sound stupid
These NBA guys don't even research who wore 15 after Carmelo. So change the headline. WHY YOU FAKE FANS MAKE LIES UP. Anthony Randolph wore #15 in DENVER in 2012 and 2013. Jokic came in 2015 and took #15 because Randolph was gone. So if you need make FAKE HEADLINES for views at least bring up ANTHONY RANDOLPH wore Danver #15 1½ years after Melo left. If you force your way to get traded to another team you should have no say about your old number. Jokic won a chip in Denver of all places. Enough said.
“Stole his legacy” they probably didn’t even think he would make the league and nobody would’ve ever had a problem with it.. so because he became an all time great and did something Melo could not do and led them to their franchises first championship he “stole his legacy” yall trippin. When Jok retires they will retire the number for both players. BTW I bet anything if Melo hit him up and asked him to change numbers he wouldn’t give a fuck.

Pretty sure Shaq doing a "meet and greet" would make some money, but if ORL32 ISN'T ALREADY RETIRED, it was never meant to be!!!
Like, imagine Knicks telling us TODAY they've finally decided to retire Ewing's number 40yrs later!!!
😂😂😂😂😂
2 players after Melo got the #. Nobody thought Joker was gonna be who he was. Stop it
I'm tired of Carmeloverrated fanboys and their delusion.
Melo had how many MVP's? 0
First team all NBA? 0
Finals appearances? 0
Oh, wait but he's an all time great scorer so must have had multiple scoring titles, right? No
Well how many 30ppg seasons did he have at least? 0
-Really, at 6'8? Allen Iverson was 5'11 and has 4x the scoring titles, all during a far slower paced, and defensively tougher era.
Take away half of Jokic's accolades and he still destroys Melo's resume. Melo should keep his mouth shut, especially since it's a crime that he made the NBA#75 team ahead of Dwight, Manu, Pau, Webber, Wallace, Dikembe, Tmac, Billups etc.
2009 He coulda changed that if he beat the Lakers and then Celtics🤷♂️
Bingooooo
You mean the Magic?
Wrong year he meant the magic
if karl had a clue on how to run inbound plays.... could push the wcf to 7
@RafsanS15 What difference does it make really they we're losing that series anyways
Who cares how melo feels. Dude forced his way out of denver
Joker was wearing #15 in his country!!
Melo's legacy: inefficient iso ball hog team cancer playoff choker and a cone defensively
He didn’t play for the other teams so why tf should they retire his number? This was dumb asf.
I'm not even a Joker fan but Melo didn't win anything there he didn't deserve to have his # retired & Joker is the one that won there. Joker wasn't expected to be this great
If Melo doesn't take care of his legacy with the Nuggets, why should Jokic? It's only a matter of time before this becomes a racial issue.
Jokic has 2 MVPs, a finals mvp and will not leave, melo doesn’t care about winning, never a finals appearance and will play less years on the nuggets
And stop bringing up skin color, you sound stupid
@@Chris56076 delusional, melo won’t ever have his jersey retired, he’s lucky if the Knicks retire it
@@chilldoc9638 Nuggets will retire his jersey
Finally someone talks about this !!!!
melo wanted out of denver,,,,he forced a trade
These NBA guys don't even research who wore 15 after Carmelo. So change the headline.
WHY YOU FAKE FANS MAKE LIES UP.
Anthony Randolph wore #15 in DENVER in 2012 and 2013.
Jokic came in 2015 and took #15 because Randolph was gone.
So if you need make FAKE HEADLINES for views at least bring up ANTHONY RANDOLPH wore Danver #15 1½ years after Melo left. That is the real story. Race is all this is about, subconsciously.
If you force your way to get traded to another team you should have no say about your old number. Jokic won a chip in Denver of all places. Enough said.
So if he somehow forced his way out in the future (as a hypothetical) could he get his jersey retired
@@knowmekingsquad9898 yea he could. the job is done. He put the banner in the rafters. Sometimes all it takes is one and your legacy is set.
Carmelo Anthony needs to get a job and stay busy and not worry about a jersey number
I wore no.23 in high school and everytime I saw someone wear the number I represented made me feel so good.
For the record leaving Denver was Melo's idea. We were sick when he forced his was out, feeling was Melo was too big for our town. You make choices Melo, live with them. But we don't have to retire your jersey or put a statue up for you, and besides Jokic likes it here. Enjoy your millions, but don't be whiner. BTW, Bruce Brown is beloved in Denver, he had to get paid elsewhere...we get that.
Denver should retire BB's jersey ASAP😂
Arenas is such a hypocrite. He said exactly the opposite thing went he was with Shannon Sharpe.
What i see and hear here is a bunch of clowns acting like they know what they are talking about it.
Knicks did bad letting Randle get #30 and not retiring Bernard King
Actual history of a franchise, Bernard King
So none of them got rings, mvp status, successful but washed out careers but like to smack superstars in a podcast? Shai, it not be joke o🧐
They’re salty that Melo held em hostage to go to NY. Even though the nuggets won the trade
Bruh they literally gave 15 to Anthony Randolph before Joker. They gave it to a dude who got drafted during a Taco Bell commercial. They did not give a damn about trying to erase anything. Melo just has main character syndrome. Gtfo.
The had the opportunity to do with him what the Heat did with Hardaway and Mourning. They may not have won it all but they started the organization on the right path
Naw he left 13 years ago it’s too much of a gap for us to credit any of the recent success to Melo.
Except mourning did win
Carmelo left Denver disgraced!
Never met any of the expectations; never led Nuggets to success.
He was known as a selfish player & a ball hog who focused on padding his individual stats.
Acted like a primadona towards the end & demanded a trade from Denver.
Why would Nuggets honor Carmelo? For what precisely?
@@tropickman I watched Melo his entire time in Denver. LOved his game and he had a will to win. Camby, Kmart, Melo, and Chauncey with JR coming off the bench...that was a squad! Just couldn't get past Kobe in Western Conference finals. On the court I did not think he was selfish. Time has revealed there were chemistry problems with Coach Karl.
@@tropickmanCarmelo made Denver relevant. He instantly made them playoff team & title contenders.
Anthony Randolph wore 15 right after Melo… and his name is Anthony. Why didn’t Melo bring that up, then or did he?
Nahh we didn’t know jokic was gone be like this we wouldn’t had said nun if he was trash melo stop being salty
Jokic wore 15 his whole life.
Gone be hard for Nuggets to retire Melo 15 w the way Joker playing
"With the way Joker playing." Lmao 😂🤣 man just won them a championship🏆 and you talking about the way he playing🤦♂️ he could have a downward trend from this point on and never win again and they'd still have to hang that jersey just off the strength of the chip🏆🤷♂️.
@@Bo55edupand his 2 regular season MVPs and jokic been making the case he still belongs in conversation
Jokic could retire now and he would still be the best nugget ever.
It should not even be a discussion. #15 should only be retired for Joker. He led the Nuggets to a championship, has a finals MVP and 2 regular season MVPs. Carmelo accomplished none of those things as a Nugget and plus he forced his way out of Denver.
@@Bo55edup you literally saying what I said I'n a diff way for likes fruit lmao
jokic has 15 in Serbia, always...then, in Nuggets - another player have #15 and his name is Anthony Randolph....and then, after years, a man ask is his number free...yes, it is, and that's it...
Plus, Joker invented BBall for little melo...
Well also Melo left in 2010 after a rough patch trade with denver, Jokic was drafted 4 years later , I think that's plenty of time
Dude is a two time MVP and Champion and used to wear 15. Get over it he left the team. Who cares if he was a 2nd round pick. What has Melo.done ? Won a scoring title and a couple first and 2nd teams. Jokic doesn't care about drama. When he said he used to wear it and it was available so he took it then thats the case with him.
magic gave no.1 when penny left, raptors gave no.15 when vince left, sonics gave no.40 when kemp left, sixers gave 34 when barkley left...
dont know why they acting like teams dont give numbers of their former allstar players, especially if they didnt leave on good terms?
if jokic didnt turn out to be the player he is, maybe down the line nuggets wouldve retired no.15 in honor of melo, but the way jokic turned out as a player its his number
love you all keep it up arena god bless you and fam
oh my god jokic wears fifteen since he was young
do a little research kenyon is dmb mofo for siding with melo who is promoting his channel
but then again this might be stage debate
Melo didn’t even wear 15 his whole career.
Jokic best nuggets ever. Jeremy Lin, only Asian Knick superstar, Karma.
Melo won less playoff series than John Wall. I know this because as I die hard wiz fan before this year lmao I looked it up cause of this debate.
Jokic was a project player, no one knew hes going to be this great. They thought he was a longshot thats why they drafted him during a taco bell commercial.
This is a reminder that no one owes you anything. Anything given after that be thankful and grateful. Even if the ending was sour
Nikola Jokic had number 15 in serbia anyways melo is speaking to a wall
1st: As long as your number isn't retirered or planned to be retirered, you don't own shit.
2nd: "out of respect for Melo"??? Didn't he forced his way out? So why does he deserve this kind of respect he didn't shown himself for his franchise?
Melo is still hated in Denver, Melo never took the time like Lebron to build back the relationship in Denver (Cleveland), he bail on Denver like a spoil brat. Melo is a Knick, if you want to retire his number you do it. He doesn't deserve shit in Denver.
The look on Kenyon’s face when Gil said Melo had a better legacy with the Knicks then the nuggets lmao
Is everyone going to gloss over the fact that Anthony Rudolph wore No.15 for the Nuggets in 2014 before they drafted Jokic during a TB commercial?
Nobody remembers what Carmelo did in Denver except the pundits. 15 will be associated with Jokic forever now!!!!!!!!!!
And nobody cares about what he did in NY: 1 single playoff appearance in an easier conference while racking up empty stats in a all gas no defense D'Antoni system. Only reason the media tries to hang on to it is because the Knicks have been so depressing for so long that it's the only thing worth mentioning since the Ewing days.
