  • A line mixer is nothing new. There are many options out there in many formats. GFI has taken this old school technology and brought it into the 21st century!
    Whether you want parallel wet effects, dry effects, LFO's, Polarity inversion for amp sims or something else that takes your fancy, Duophony can get it done... WITH MIDI!
    Never has a line mixer been so flexible. Check out the two main ways I personally use this for my rig!

    I’ve been using the Duophony for the last few months to run my H90, solving the 2 issues I had with the Eventide: (1) tonesuck: it’s always converting your signal, even when not activated, if you have it in series on your board, so the Duophony allows you to switch out the loop with the H90 entirely; and (2) latency in a wet-dry rig: when the signal was split after my drives and before the H90, doing the dotted 8th delay stuff was a total no-no. Having it in parallel, kill-dry, and putting the dry signal back via the Duophony, solves this.
    So as not to waste the other loop, I have Chase Bliss wet effects as an always-on delay / verb. Blending between the two is easy with an expression pedal, and I change presets on both wet effect pedals with an MC6.
    As someone who isn’t a massive MIDI or parallel expert, it took me a while to get there because no one had covered this H90 solution online / UA-cam at the time (you and I swapped a few emails on the topic but I’m not sure if either of us had heard of the Duophony at that point!), and I’m very happy indeed with the result. GFI have crushed it with this mixer.

    I bought a riser and Y cable from you a couple of weeks back to have this set up exactly with the Dream and Ruby with the Duophony. It’s amazing! Works flawlessly! 12 presets all set to different mixes and all changing with Midi! Expression through MIDI as well.

    Deliberate explanations and samples. Also appreciated that addresed findings regarding mixing those specific channels. Good watch! Thank you Grant!

    Love you guys! Any chance you can do a WDW video with the Dream, Ruby, Duophony, Wet and Dry effects?

    Just what I needed to know! Any chance you guys have tried pairing the ruby and lion using the duophany? I’m thinking of pulling the trigger on both and would like to know if I need to invert the phase or not to get them to play nice.

      I havent' tried Lion yet! Sorry. Maybe email UA and see if you get a response?

    If using the duophony with the dream and ruby and running stereo out, is the signal out of the duophony a copy of the blend you dial in for both left and right or does one side (lets say left) get ruby signal and the other side (right) get dream?

    • @GoodwoodAudio
      @GoodwoodAudio  4 місяці тому +1

      It would have to be blended if running stereo dream and ruby in the loops because there is only a L and R output on Duophony... but there would be 4 outputs if you DIDN'T blend the signals (left dream, right dream, left ruby, right ruby).... Since there only left and right out on Duophony, both Left dream and left ruby are mixed to teh left out and right dream / right ruby to right out.

    Could you run a stereo signal through with one side having a mono effect?

      great question. It's been a while since I did this video... I'd have to go back and check. Check out the manual - GFI usually does a great job with going over wiring diagrams here. With the right cables (you might need some custom cables for this ) it should be doable. But usually with these types of configurations you'd then need to make sure you are locked in to parallel and not going to series unless the mono pedal is first.

    Could you use 100% wet on pedals w/o kill dry and use an expression pedal to control level? Seems like that would accomplish the same as kill-dry with mix control, but could be in left field

    • @GoodwoodAudio
      @GoodwoodAudio  2 місяці тому +1

      unfortunately not assuming the pedal in questions 'level' was the same as it's 'mix' knob... I know some pedals have these separated, but most just have 'effect level'... In that case as soon as you bring the mix down, dry comes back in. BUT - if you have a pedal that can do 100% mix and then a separate control that just attenuates the effect level without adding dry... yes - same thing!

    Hello there, thank you for this very instructive video. I have a question about my use of the Ruby and a high whining noise that i get. I have a revv d20 that i am sending to my behringer mixer on channel 1. I then send the Ruby output 1 to the mixer and i can hear a high whining noise coming from the Ruby. If i disconnect the latter, the noise is gone.
    My pedalboard signal is as follws : guitar -> tuner -> overdrive -> ua del verb stereo -> output 1 goes to the ruby and output 2 goes to the revv d20. If i disconnect output1 of the del verb so that only the ruby is used ,the noise is gone too.
    If i disconnect the revv d20 and only send the 2 outputs from Ruby to my mixer, again i get the noise.
    Its not a low hum noise, its a high pitch whining noise. Any idea what could be happening here please? thanks

      Sounds like either a ground loop or power. But I'm leaning towards power.... Is the Ruby (or anything else on your board) sharing power taps? That might be it.

    • @oneandonlyarajivp
      @oneandonlyarajivp 4 місяці тому

      @@GoodwoodAudio no, its not sharing power. I have tried both powering it from my trutone cs12 and a separate wall-plugged 500mA power supply. Either way, no luck.
