    This is not snake oil. This is an amazing problem solver (as you said) that can save massive amounts of time and effort. However, this is not a specialized tool, this is something that hypothetically can make virtually any/every track more musical, if treated in a subtle and careful way. Finally, "delta" is a pretty common thing on plugins these days--as seen often in Tokyo Dawn's plugins, among others--that simply represents the change in audio post-plugin or what has been taken away/added from/to the original sound by the plugin. If I want to soften the hi hats, for instance, I can click delta and then move the bands around until I have isolated the offending band. I can further adjust and optimize the delta until I am basically hearing the hi hat only as loudly and clearly as possible...then I know I am compressing those sounds I just auditioned via delta and that this is exactly what is being removed by the plugin. I wish every plugin had a delta control so that I could hear exactly what the plugin is changing/affecting.rather than estimating, guessing or fooling myself. It's an objective way to assess the true behavior--always a plus!

    • @funguy8801
      @funguy8801 6 років тому +10

      Yeah I agree. And the delta was obvious as soon as he pressed it, it was the isolated effected audio that was being processed, a handy reference for sure.

    I used it (Soothe2) recently on a vocal track that was ultra-hyped in the upper mid range and lower hi’s, and which also had excessive sibilance... the client recorded his own vocal, in a 6x6 room (feet, not meters) that was completely untreated and highly reflective; to add to that, he printed the track through heavy compression, which further accentuated sibilance...
    It turns out that the client’s hearing is severely attenuated above 2khz, so he was compensating by boosting the frequencies above that to nuclear meltdown levels, in order to hear “presence” and “sparkle”... which resulted not so much in “sparkle”, but more like the ultra-smooth sounds of a chainsaw cutting sheet metal...
    While Soothe2 didn’t magically make the track sound “great”, it did help out (quite a bit) in attenuating the frequencies that were gouging my eyes out and causing my brain to liquify and leak out of my ears...
    The boom of home “studios” has resulted in me ( and I’m sure many other pro’s) getting far more bad-sounding tracks ( mostly vocal tracks) than I ever did back before everyone was an “engineer” with a “studio” in their basement; in the years before that, when I would get tracks brought in from other pro studios; where in most cases, the tracks were recorded so well to begin with, that usually only a touch of EQ and some moderate compression were all that the tracks really needed.
    I wouldn’t go as far to say that Soothe is an “instant fix”, because it’s not. If the recording is bad enough, there’s only so much that any processor can do... but it’s a great tool to have and use, particularly when you’re dealing with vocal tracks that were recorded in someone’s kitchen, and through a cheap, brittle sounding condenser mic, that has all the sonic appeal of tossing a handful of ball bearings into the whirring blades of a Cuisinart blender.
    😫

    Dope review! The Delta button seems to be like a 'flip' switch so you can specifically hear which resonant frequencies are being removed.

    These tools all have their place. If I didn't have MSpectralDynamics already, I would probably consider this. WIth that said, I would still consider it since spectral dynamic compressors are superior to normal multiband DeEssers. I know people like ProDS by FF and the Waves DeEsser but I get better results faster with MSpecDyn. I am considering this plugin for it's quick use and applications and Melda's for surgical work. Thanks for sharing.

    Finnaly digital plugins are coming out that use the tech of DSP to do complex stuff analog cant do, as good as hardware comps and deesers are they cant do it over a huge amount of seperate bands like this, definately will look into buying.

    I use this plugin a lot. The delta feature only plays the frequencies you are attenuating. This makes it easy to find a particular frequency, kind of like sweeping an eq on Fab in solo mode.It is a great tool to tame down guitar tracks that have frequencies that are overbearing at points in the song that need to be tamed down while not taking away the frequencies you need. I have also it to fix low end issues on a bass. I agree not snake oil. Great video! Great channel!

    I have a significant resonant bump in my upper mids when I hit vowel e sounds while singing. I have tried using Waves C6 multi band comp, but it isn't precise enough for my needs. Too much compression on surrounding frequencies other than the resonance. This seems a lot more surgical.

    OEKSOUND put out a new version of this gizmo. It's $214.00 clams USD. I drop that kind of coin on a flipping plugin, it ain't gonna be "soothe" around my house for very long. I already own about half of Izotope's product line & about 9 million waves plugins. I'm sure there's something in my arsenal of binary code music production crap that can do whatever the hell soothe does. I'll just keep screwing around with plugins until I find the golden one.

    Hi, you also presented Meldas MSpectral Dynamics...do you thing it can replace Soothe2?

  • @MegaFiredon
    @MegaFiredon 6 років тому +4

    Dont compare THE EDGER from TDR with soothe, they are different tools,
    Deedger is transient smoother, dehardener, not deharshener as soothe is.
    Soothe is harshness smoother , automatic dynamic eq working as a complex deharsher mostly.
    Time domain vs frequency domain, if shortly.
    If you take TSHSH sound, deedger makes it tSHSH, soothe makes it Tshsh or TFFF or TSSS
    Let me explain what both plugins do, they combine each other, not replace.
    Yes it is subtle sometimes , try several instances and you will hear this overdoing, if you still don't here difference, it means you don't need your track to be processed, it's ok. Wide Q works more noticeable than sharp. Test this more. This plugin is very unique and problem solving. Soon more plugins from TDR and OD this year, you can't find similar plugins, because of uniqueness

    The second version is pretty ideal... it's also great as a pre-compressor compressor.
    I was in two minds with the first one as a respectable buy.
    Sort of thinking it will save time to get things there quicker but then later have to use something else.
    Where the second one I'm pretty impressed and confident it's a wise buy.

    For me it's snake oil as long as it stays at 150 EUR. Way too expensive for an automatic dynamic eq. Soon the market will react and other developers will offer it for less money. I mean, c'mon, that's a half price of a regular DAW..? As a small studio you could even get 3 Reaper licenses. And Soothe simply ducks freq peaks..? Helpful, but no rocket science.

      I don't think it's a cheap design. It's clean and simple. Reminds me of Valhalla VST or the Figure mobile app. It's great that plugins that do more than analog solutions don't try to emulate analog gear in their visual design. I find it a bit cheesy when plugins look like analog gear unless they are plugins that emulate an actual piece of analog gear (like the UA stuff).
