I always thought that a special paramecia was a paramecia that the properties of a logia/zoan. That's why katakuri would be in it. I also think karasu would be innit.
i guess the mochi mochi no mi was planned to be a logia but maybe oda noticed that mochi isn't a natural element,more of a food acutally,and because was planned to be logia they created the special paramicia to fill the classification for his devil fruit,witch makes sense for then to change it to make sure there is no mistake between the classes in the devil fruit since logia is only a natural element. What I don't get is: How can you have electricity, swamp and coldness in one category but you need to create a totally new categorie for organic substances? So you could be a salt-logia but a suggar special paramecia? :-)

Well, if you count 'swamp' (Numa Numa no Mi) as a natural element, then you can count all types of stuff into the logia which are molekules instead of elements. Even 'sand' is more of a concept instead of an element. You can have river sand which is from stone and you can have the white beach sand which is mostly crushed corals. What I don't get is - why is the MochiMochi not a special logia instead of a special paramecia? (Natural answer: because Oda said so)

I mean one could argue from Jinbei's unedited claim of Katakuri being a Logia narratively makes sense because if you have never or rarely seen Katakuri fight you wouldn't know about his secret trick of seeing the future to dodge with his body - So to any on-looker, Katakuri would appear as though he was a Logia type. Something only Luffy discovered from lasting as long as he did. (I know that's not reality of the situation but that's my headcanon explanation)
Part of me believes this change was made for keeping consistency with Logias. Initially, Oda made Katakuri a Logia because that essentially what he acted like. However, upon further consideration, he realized that EVERY other Logia is a natural element. Mochi, meanwhile, is a man-made substance, and thus would ruin the consistency and open a whole new bag of worms for Logias. But imagine if Katakuri was a Mochi Zoan.

Oda definitely could have maintained that Mochi counted as a Logia though, as we've seen Logias that explicitly aren't natural elements and inherently contradict other Logias as well. The most notable examples being that Fire and Lightning are actually forms of energy (or more specifically visualizations of the transfer of energy, with one being a chemical reaction), and we also see a Smoke devil fruit, an explicit gas, a Gas devil fruit, which is a state of matter, and a Magma devil fruit, which is an inexplicit liquid.

It's no wonder the fans put him on such a high pedestal. He's considered to be a god (Goda) among manga creators. He was so dedicated to One Piece that he was literally working himself to death. The publisher actually had to force him to take time off every few weeks.
When I first heard this it was so easy to know what a special paremecia, like from katakuri he can become intangible but his devil fruit is not a Logia because Logia’s are natural elements. So YEAH
The way I interpret how Katakuri's fruit works is that he can mold his body like a Logia user would, but he can not fully turn into his element. That means you don't need Haki to be able to hurt him. Actually, the Mochi Mochi fruit would be a pretty bad power for someone without good Observation Haki, because Katakuri needs to see an attack coming to be able to make it pass through his body.
This. Much like Luffy's rubber qualities, he can still get hurt despite being literal rubber. Katakuri is probably the same, he can still get hurt despite being literal mochi.
The best thing about Katakuri is this double flip on the previous knowledge of armament haki, that is very smart of an antagonist to consider his enemies' attacks and also has the secondary effect of confusing the enemy, because to both the viewer and even attacker, it looks like their armament haki isn't working and that is a very deceptive tactic that works really well.. He's basically showing all those Logia rookies how it's done in the New World.
I'm just saying, he was hiding his real body from attacks with future sight and in doing that, Katakuri more than likely confused a lot of enemies, because the same happened with viewers who came to the wrong conclusion that armament haki wasn't working on him.
it would be an easy mistake to make people have the false assumption that characters in the story are experts on devil fruits well most of them aren't most of them don't know much more than we do(some don't even know they exist) hell the people of wano who have devil fruits don't even understand what they are so seeing someone turn into a substance and bullets passing through them most of the onlookers even people somewhat knowledgeable about devil fruits like jinbe would probably assume he's a logia for the same reason they would probably assume blackbeard is a paramica since he can get hit with non haki attacks because exceptions are rather rare devil fruits in general are rare and most follow the same trend and fit into general classes for the most part paramecias all work the same logias all work the same and zoans all work the same(except for mythical zoans) while exceptions do exist they are pretty rare jinbe may not know about blackbeard he may assume all logias work the same because all of the logias he's encountered so far do work the same like ace the admirals smoker and caesar clown teach is just weird honestly his dark dark fruit being classified as a logia doesn't really make sense outside of oda just said its one
I Just understanded How Mochi logia effect Works, Its not a Special Paramecia or some New sub-Specie, Its Just Katakuri Using His Devil fruit Awakening to transform his body in mochi and controling it, Much like he turns the Floor in mochi he uses It In his body to avoid the Attacks with the Ken haki!
IMO special paramecia just means a fruit that is similar to another category, but isn't exactly that category. So like Katakuri whose fruit works exactly like a Logia, but it isn't made of a naturally occuring substance/element. and also Karasu's fruit could also fit the category, turning into multiple crows instead of just a crow-human-hybrid, some similarities to a Zoan but too far off.
Well its not exactly like a logia. Katakuri can be hit by stuff. If he didn't have his haki (future sight) hed take damage from strong impacts just like luffy (i wonder which is stronger against impact damage, rubber or mochi?)
I mean you can find similarities with any fruit to another fruit in a different category. But there are 3 types of paramecia, producer (Doffy), Manipulator (Kid, Fugitora), and then ones where it effects your body (Luffy). In Katakuri’s case he covers 2 of these which is why he’s special like what he said in the vid.
I always thought Logia were natural/elemental powers, then came this Mochi man. I was kinda relived when he was given this special paramecia label, as it makes sense for the Logia to be only elemental powers.

*From reading the series it's like this* 1. Each class of fruit will have it's own unique awakening; thus there will be three standard awakening types 2. The basis for what class each fruit falls under can be understood by what type of awakening it has; eg- transforming into a much more statistically powerful (animalistic) version of oneself, zoan. 3. "Special" paramecia should be looked upon in the vein we look at "mythical" zoan; paramecia with the standard paramecia awakening however, having abilities reminiscent of either logia or zoan fruit. So far we've seen the logia but I'm thinking maybe we'll see a special paramecia in zoan format as well heck perhaps karasu might be one. It hasn't been confirmed yet highly implied that awakened logia affect the weather/topography around them. When Ace was on drum island it was a hot and sunny day and didn't snow, I initially (back then around that period of time- like 10-12yrs ago) felt like it was haki related. However once thee admirals battle on punk hazard and the aftermath was explained, I was certain it was the awakened logia feature. Perhaps Oda realized after initially introducing katakuri that A) he'd be awakened & B) it wasn't possible to write that into the story given the logia standard for it, so he switched it to paramecia and thus had katakuri changed officially the paramecia class under _special_ terms. Actually I'm willing to bet this is along the lines of what happened and would be willing to put money behind this- if anyone can get Oda or his editors to read this you should try

If he was a logia, he would still need to use future sight to evade haki punches. I speculate the real reason Oda changed him is because he wanted Katakuri to be an awakened user, but logias don't awaken the way he wanted the fight to go down/he didn't want to reveal awakened logias yet.
I thought the reason Oda changed him from Logia to Special Paramencia was the fact that Logia can only become elements, and mochi not being an element would make him a special paramencia. I still believe that his Mochi fruit makes him intangible to normal attacks but now we get an explaination on how Akainu and potentially other Logias can survive Haki attacks. It always bothered me when Akainu was cut by a haki user yet it didn't hurt him. Now we know that the really strong logia users can use their perception haki to mold their bodies to avoid the attacks, like Katakuri and Akainu did.
I think you are the only one who gets it. This videos creator and 99% of the commenters seem to believe he has to turn his ability on or off to avoid attacks. He isn't required to mold to dodge incoming attacks he does so because he's just that good with observation haki and it's like a sort of precautionary instinct response.
I think one of the possible differences is that maybe his mocchi body can be affected without haki which is why he has to mold his mold his body around so much. He clearly has logia esque qualities after turning into a wheel and fluid forms unless somehow his real body is now a disembodied head and his body was always generated mocchi dun dun dun

That's exactly how I would have described special Paramecias. I think this shows that true Logia users are intangible at will with little/no effort. I mean, in theory, if Sabo, a Logia Flare/Flare user, were to be shot from behind with a regular bullet, and he did not see it coming at all (let's say no Haki), would he turn intangible automatically? I am hoping yes to make the distinction from Katakuri more obvious. Also, Katakuri's power is not negated by Haki while requring constant awareness to sell the illusion. Give and take.

I just wished Oda had made this all awakening. Katakuri ate the mochi fruit that allowed him to produce and manipulate mochi, then he awakened and found that he can now turn his body into mochi. Makes sense to me and it would have been a good chance to show that not all paramecias awaken the same way.
the way i think is the best way to describe special paramecia type fruits is that they have the qualities of a logia but the user turns in to an unnaturally occurring substance. as all logia substances are natural for example sabo and fire or kuzan and ice
from what I can tell Paramica's come in 3 flavors 1. Change your body, buggy, Jozu, Daz Bones etc 2. Emit from body, Magallen, Mr 3, Foxy, Hancock, Donfalmingo 3. Manipulate the environment, the swimming guy, the scissor guy, the giant guy from the revolutionary army there are some powers that just barely fit a specific category like Laws does he manipulate the environment or does he generate a room
He's a paramecia because he's made of mochi just like Luffy who is made of rubber. Also Katakuri made the Mochi Mochi no Mi a strong fruit because of his fighting and most especially his Haki, I mean think about this, imagine if you eat your body is made of rice cake, a simple garden sprinkler can potentially kill you. To be fair, Magellan is also immune to poison. One could argue that is another aspect of paramecias wherein you can become immune to that which you produce, but is a subclass since Mr 5 isn't immune to explosions, Mr 1 isn't strictly immune to blades. Meanwhile, Basil Hawkins can produce straw and activate a different form of his body into straw like Mr 1 along with the straw voodoo dolls(which may just be an extension of the former). Keep in mind the dolls are made and *then stored* inside his body as evidenced by them being discharged-and Basil's previous statement of how many he had left, indicating they had to be produced prior. This may even indicate he can become straw, allowing straw his produces to pass through and be stored in his body at his whim
I'm still waiting for an entry in the devil fruit encyclopedia. You included the egg egg fruit, plus have fun figuring out how the fruit worked pre-awakening. What if the egg egg fruit is a special Paramecia? Instead of qualities of a Logia, a Zoan!
To the special paramecia category I would like to vote for Law's and Hawkin's devil fruits as special paramecias. Plus I would like to add the reason why Katakuri could turn his body into mochi is because he's an awakened devil fruit user, I mean it could be possible that even though doflamingo could turn his body into strings, it's just a theory on that subject.
Another example of this special paramecia would be the Non-Canon Honey Queen from the first One Piece movie. I know in that she was stated to be a logia but it's not canon and it makes more sense to make her a special paramecia fruit anyway.

I can’t speak or read the japanese or greek language but I read on the wiki that Logia means something like “oracle” and is meant to describe the “nature speaking” (something with the Kanji). If you think about that all Logia devil fruits are based on elements or natural phenomena and that Mochi is “man-made” it makes sense that it isn’t a logia. Also Katakuris awakened power (to turn the floor into Mochi) is like Doflamingos: to turn non-living objects into the “substance” produced by their devil fruit power. It might be a possibility that Oda for some reason didn’t want to show an awakened Logia devil fruit yet. I think those “theories” could have a point as well besides the mentioned fact that his use of the power further emphasizes his observation Haki. Or it’s just coincidence and Oda was just lucky ^^ Very good video! :)
I suppose I'm wondering if this Special classification could have anything to do with the user being Awakened? The two examples of this that come to mind are Doflamingo and Katakuri. Perhaps the idea that the user being able to change the environment into that material extends to the user then being able to turn their body into said material as well? Like, how Doflamingo is able to generate string from his fruit, but after awakening can also meld and shape those strings into tissues and organs for his damaged body. Just speculation, but maybe that's something to do with it.

Special Paramesia is what we call Paramecia×logia hybrid. Like Luffy who's body is rubber but a Paramesia. His body is basically what his element (not really element but you get the point.) Which is a characteristic of a logia but since he can't go intangible or create his own element, then he's a Paramesia
then that means the first special paramecia the show has shown was Trebol in the dressrosa arc. because when Law cut him into multiple slices (without a room up), Trebol was in pieces but perfectly fine. either that or hes a logia. and the latter isnt the case (or it could also be inconsistency as well)
Some think Karasu is a special paramecia user, if it is not a Zoan fruit i would be very very very surprised. It seems quite clear, Karasu is Zoan but in his own new special rank just like Baron Tamago
I think that a Special Paramecia does give the user Logia abilities, but they are limited, like Katakuri has a limit as to how much of his body he can turn into mochi, that limit being all but his head, like when he dodged Luffy's Black Mamba by transforming his body but not his head or when popped his head out of his donut form when using his Zan Giri Mochi. He can transform his head along with his body if he wants to, but he can't do it for very long, as opposed to his body which he can keep as mochi for as long as he wants, but prefers not to, because using his Logia abilities drains his stamina, which is why he uses his future vision to transform select parts of his body to dodge an attack while using the least amount of energy.
He should be able to mimic zoan devil fruit too, since what's stopping him from shaping his body into animal limbs. Like how zoans go into hybrid from. And what's stopping him from turning into his whole body and mochi then into any animal shape he wants. Specialty since he can use amorment haki to make it harder so it could act like claws. And what's stopping him making mochi wings to fly. If can make giant limbs come out of mochi donuts that are floating in the air I might add. He should be able to do everything I just said and more with no problems really.
If you think about it miss valentine devil fruit can be a very very good combat fruit bc it can probably change the impact of your kicks if you switch to light to heavy weight very fast while kicking bc Light weight will make your kick fast then changing weight to heavy will make the impact strong and fast

The reason for the switch from Logia to paramecia is obvious. Read the arc all over again. Comb back through the story and focus on anything related to awakening. On my initial read I picked up on this, but I know a lot of others are still confused TILL THIS DAY! Katakuri’s awakening is a paramecia’s awakening. It’s obvious all three Devil Fruit will have a distinct awakening. While logia haven’t been spelled out yet we can see it has something to do with climate conditions. As well as logia having been introduced as tithing users into a natural element. We can consider that pretty much solved. Paramecia can affect their surroundings- which has been demonstrated via using their surroundings as a medium to their abilities. Not only has we already seen it- we were told it, by Doflamingo. So witnessing Katakuri’s awakening should be enough to answer why he is a Paramecia thematically. Editorially? It’s more than likely Oda realized upon planning his awakening that he had made a mistake. Went back, and edited it.
Special paramecia is just a paramecia fruit which have logia like properties but still can be touched. Like katakuri and mr 3 they look like logia fruits but can still be touched by others. I think the main difference is materialisation.
Having two options is a novel way of thinking of it and given there is only one example it's pretty good. My impression was what made it special is that a true logia type automatically became intangible when struck forcefully, whereas Katakuri had to do it manually in advance. If this is disproven later than I can take this idea back. Also, it is heavily implied that logia users are always a force of nature, magma, ice, etc whereas mochi is a dessert. So if this is true it may have been disqualified from logia status anyway.
Basically Paramecia is just the specialist nen affinity of One Piece. It's just an "everything goes" category for cool superpowers Oda has thought of that don't fit into either Zoan or Logia.
When it was first stated that Katakuri was logia user, the one thing I thought at first was "what if the surrounding environment determines what an element is" since the Whole Cake arc took place in an area primaraly made of sweets maybe mochi could have potentially been acceptable as an "element" then he was re classified as being a special paramecia user and that theory went out the window
True, they do have some strange "elements" in the one piece world, like clouds you can stand on, or bubbles that survive the pressure of the bottom of the sea after being on the surface, or even sea stone
maybe special paramecia are paramecia that like logia turn you in to the said thing? Like Luffy would be one too. Many paramecia fruits make you able to affect or control something or concepts but very few actually turn you in to an other substance.
People seem to get confused a lot with the definition of Logias. Basically the user turns into a substance that occurs naturally, at least that is the pattern set from all the logias we have seen, with 0 exceptions. Just to be clear, this classification is based on the information we have and not on my personal opinion. And btw, not all naturally ocurring substances are logias, like Jozu's kira kira no mi. (no Gasparde's Ame Ame no mi from movie 4 isnt canon so dont even bring that up).
What about Horo Horo No Mi? doesn't it allow you to conjure up ghost as well as astral project, essentially turning yourself to ghost as well? Doesn't this make this fruit a special paramecia under your definition?
Great video as always I just have one problem with your explanation. You talk about katakuri as if he needs his future sight and has to be aware of an attack in order to become intangible when attacked which isn't true. I still think that katakuri would still materialize as mochi when attacked by anything except for a haki infused or seastone object. Whether he is actively trying to dodge or not. If you look at other similar body mod peramesia shown (Luffy) their body is permanently altered whether they are conscious or unconscious, they aren't required to turn it on or off. Katakuri just has the luck of having his body transformed into a sort of semisolid substance. He doesn't actually need to make his mochi mold around attacks, he simply does so as a precaution since haki or seastone could be used in said attack.
So I came to this vid bc I read the manga (been catching up) and i disagree that it was intended to be a paramecia, it’s likely that Jimbe said he was a logia….bc he thought he WAS a logia user. The only reasons we the fans and luffy know is bc luffy was able to make him lose his cool enough to make it so he doesn’t use his observation haki….while maybe yes it could be a retcon I think it’s just a situation where he intended to explain it later but ppl took off with the logia labeling and he felt he had to fix it. Bc even in the chapter where we find out why he has logia type properties luffy still referred to him as one (stating haki was supposed to make it so he can hit logia types, in other words he was wondering why he couldn’t hit him despite the haki) before realizing/being told what was actually happening. Your explanation for a special paramecia is spot on tho lol
well given the definition of what a special paramecia is, I think that Daflamingo qualifies as a user of one : after all he is able to produce string, his body was shown to be made and repaired by string, and he is even able to alter hiw surrounding to become strings.
Honestly if you think of a fruit as simply a concept then you can do anything within that concept I think if you gave a df to a kid with an actual imagination a lot of them would be way stronger and also sometimes people create their own limitations because that’s just how they think their power works but they may have grown past them
I wonder if Kalifa's Awa-Awa fruit could be revealed to be a special paramecia? It probably falls under the same stipulations that Galdino and Magellan do, but some of the construct tricks Kalifa used seemed to go beyond the bubbles her power is supposed to be based around. I could be remembering the power wrong, or making more out of those scenes than necessary; but it would be a cool way to make her into a bigger threat if she ever returns like Lucci has.
I think there's one other difference between Logia and Paramecia. Near as I've seen, Logia users can manipulate their element out in the world and don't seem to be limited to what their own body can create. Crocodile could control all the sand around him and Enel could control lightning from the clouds above him, as two examples.
I am more interested what is the case with Caribou and his Swamp-Swamp fruit. It was stated that it is a logia type DF, but when it came to the mochi, it was changed, since logia is an ELEMENT and... mochi is not an element... So what about swamp?Can we say swap is an element of nature, or Caribou is a special paramecia, where he can create, and turn into swamp? Since he turned up in Wano, maybe we will get an explanation for this...

Part of me believes this change was made for keeping consistency with Logias. Initially, Oda made Katakuri a Logia because that essentially what he acted like. However, upon further consideration, he realized that EVERY other Logia is a natural element. Mochi, meanwhile, is a man-made substance, and thus would ruin the consistency and open a whole new bag of worms for Logias.
But imagine if Katakuri was a Mochi Zoan.
Tamago is basically like an egg zoan. He like is part evolving egg yolk, part actual chicken (i know he doesn't have the three forms or or anything, im just saying hes a very weird paramecia
Oda definitely could have maintained that Mochi counted as a Logia though, as we've seen Logias that explicitly aren't natural elements and inherently contradict other Logias as well. The most notable examples being that Fire and Lightning are actually forms of energy (or more specifically visualizations of the transfer of energy, with one being a chemical reaction), and we also see a Smoke devil fruit, an explicit gas, a Gas devil fruit, which is a state of matter, and a Magma devil fruit, which is an inexplicit liquid.

When I first heard this it was so easy to know what a special paremecia, like from katakuri he can become intangible but his devil fruit is not a Logia because Logia’s are natural elements.

The way I interpret how Katakuri's fruit works is that he can mold his body like a Logia user would, but he can not fully turn into his element. That means you don't need Haki to be able to hurt him. Actually, the Mochi Mochi fruit would be a pretty bad power for someone without good Observation Haki, because Katakuri needs to see an attack coming to be able to make it pass through his body.

The best thing about Katakuri is this double flip on the previous knowledge of armament haki, that is very smart of an antagonist to consider his enemies' attacks and also has the secondary effect of confusing the enemy, because to both the viewer and even attacker, it looks like their armament haki isn't working and that is a very deceptive tactic that works really well..

IMO special paramecia just means a fruit that is similar to another category, but isn't exactly that category.

Well its not exactly like a logia. Katakuri can be hit by stuff. If he didn't have his haki (future sight) hed take damage from strong impacts just like luffy (i wonder which is stronger against impact damage, rubber or mochi?)
I mean you can find similarities with any fruit to another fruit in a different category. But there are 3 types of paramecia, producer (Doffy), Manipulator (Kid, Fugitora), and then ones where it effects your body (Luffy). In Katakuri’s case he covers 2 of these which is why he’s special like what he said in the vid.

*From reading the series it's like this*
1. Each class of fruit will have it's own unique awakening; thus there will be three standard awakening types
2. The basis for what class each fruit falls under can be understood by what type of awakening it has; eg- transforming into a much more statistically powerful (animalistic) version of oneself, zoan.
3. "Special" paramecia should be looked upon in the vein we look at "mythical" zoan; paramecia with the standard paramecia awakening however, having abilities reminiscent of either logia or zoan fruit. So far we've seen the logia but I'm thinking maybe we'll see a special paramecia in zoan format as well heck perhaps karasu might be one.
It hasn't been confirmed yet highly implied that awakened logia affect the weather/topography around them. When Ace was on drum island it was a hot and sunny day and didn't snow, I initially (back then around that period of time- like 10-12yrs ago) felt like it was haki related. However once thee admirals battle on punk hazard and the aftermath was explained, I was certain it was the awakened logia feature.
Perhaps Oda realized after initially introducing katakuri that A) he'd be awakened & B) it wasn't possible to write that into the story given the logia standard for it, so he switched it to paramecia and thus had katakuri changed officially the paramecia class under _special_ terms.
Actually I'm willing to bet this is along the lines of what happened and would be willing to put money behind this- if anyone can get Oda or his editors to read this you should try

If he was a logia, he would still need to use future sight to evade haki punches. I speculate the real reason Oda changed him is because he wanted Katakuri to be an awakened user, but logias don't awaken the way he wanted the fight to go down/he didn't want to reveal awakened logias yet.
I thought the reason Oda changed him from Logia to Special Paramencia was the fact that Logia can only become elements, and mochi not being an element would make him a special paramencia. I still believe that his Mochi fruit makes him intangible to normal attacks but now we get an explaination on how Akainu and potentially other Logias can survive Haki attacks. It always bothered me when Akainu was cut by a haki user yet it didn't hurt him. Now we know that the really strong logia users can use their perception haki to mold their bodies to avoid the attacks, like Katakuri and Akainu did.
I think you are the only one who gets it. This videos creator and 99% of the commenters seem to believe he has to turn his ability on or off to avoid attacks. He isn't required to mold to dodge incoming attacks he does so because he's just that good with observation haki and it's like a sort of precautionary instinct response.
I think one of the possible differences is that maybe his mocchi body can be affected without haki which is why he has to mold his mold his body around so much. He clearly has logia esque qualities after turning into a wheel and fluid forms unless somehow his real body is now a disembodied head and his body was always generated mocchi dun dun dun

That's exactly how I would have described special Paramecias. I think this shows that true Logia users are intangible at will with little/no effort.
I mean, in theory, if Sabo, a Logia Flare/Flare user, were to be shot from behind with a regular bullet, and he did not see it coming at all (let's say no Haki), would he turn intangible automatically? I am hoping yes to make the distinction from Katakuri more obvious.
Also, Katakuri's power is not negated by Haki while requring constant awareness to sell the illusion. Give and take.

the way i think is the best way to describe special paramecia type fruits is that they have the qualities of a logia but the user turns in to an unnaturally occurring substance. as all logia substances are natural for example sabo and fire or kuzan and ice
from what I can tell Paramica's come in 3 flavors
1. Change your body, buggy, Jozu, Daz Bones etc
2. Emit from body, Magallen, Mr 3, Foxy, Hancock, Donfalmingo
3. Manipulate the environment, the swimming guy, the scissor guy, the giant guy from the revolutionary army

To be fair, Magellan is also immune to poison. One could argue that is another aspect of paramecias wherein you can become immune to that which you produce, but is a subclass since Mr 5 isn't immune to explosions, Mr 1 isn't strictly immune to blades.
Meanwhile, Basil Hawkins can produce straw and activate a different form of his body into straw like Mr 1 along with the straw voodoo dolls(which may just be an extension of the former). Keep in mind the dolls are made and *then stored* inside his body as evidenced by them being discharged-and Basil's previous statement of how many he had left, indicating they had to be produced prior. This may even indicate he can become straw, allowing straw his produces to pass through and be stored in his body at his whim

Another example of this special paramecia would be the Non-Canon Honey Queen from the first One Piece movie. I know in that she was stated to be a logia but it's not canon and it makes more sense to make her a special paramecia fruit anyway.
Special paramecia is easy to explain. It is in fact a logia fruit, however, since logia fruits power should naturally occur in nature, hence, it was then named a special paramecia
I can’t speak or read the japanese or greek language but I read on the wiki that Logia means something like “oracle” and is meant to describe the “nature speaking” (something with the Kanji). If you think about that all Logia devil fruits are based on elements or natural phenomena and that Mochi is “man-made” it makes sense that it isn’t a logia.
Also Katakuris awakened power (to turn the floor into Mochi) is like Doflamingos: to turn non-living objects into the “substance” produced by their devil fruit power. It might be a possibility that Oda for some reason didn’t want to show an awakened Logia devil fruit yet.
I think those “theories” could have a point as well besides the mentioned fact that his use of the power further emphasizes his observation Haki.

I suppose I'm wondering if this Special classification could have anything to do with the user being Awakened? The two examples of this that come to mind are Doflamingo and Katakuri.
Perhaps the idea that the user being able to change the environment into that material extends to the user then being able to turn their body into said material as well? Like, how Doflamingo is able to generate string from his fruit, but after awakening can also meld and shape those strings into tissues and organs for his damaged body.
Just speculation, but maybe that's something to do with it.

Special Paramesia is what we call Paramecia×logia hybrid.
Like Luffy who's body is rubber but a Paramesia. His body is basically what his element (not really element but you get the point.) Which is a characteristic of a logia but since he can't go intangible or create his own element, then he's a Paramesia

I think that a Special Paramecia does give the user Logia abilities, but they are limited, like Katakuri has a limit as to how much of his body he can turn into mochi, that limit being all but his head, like when he dodged Luffy's Black Mamba by transforming his body but not his head or when popped his head out of his donut form when using his Zan Giri Mochi. He can transform his head along with his body if he wants to, but he can't do it for very long, as opposed to his body which he can keep as mochi for as long as he wants, but prefers not to, because using his Logia abilities drains his stamina, which is why he uses his future vision to transform select parts of his body to dodge an attack while using the least amount of energy.
He should be able to mimic zoan devil fruit too, since what's stopping him from shaping his body into animal limbs. Like how zoans go into hybrid from. And what's stopping him from turning into his whole body and mochi then into any animal shape he wants. Specialty since he can use amorment haki to make it harder so it could act like claws. And what's stopping him making mochi wings to fly. If can make giant limbs come out of mochi donuts that are floating in the air I might add. He should be able to do everything I just said and more with no problems really.

The reason for the switch from Logia to paramecia is obvious. Read the arc all over again. Comb back through the story and focus on anything related to awakening. On my initial read I picked up on this, but I know a lot of others are still confused TILL THIS DAY! Katakuri’s awakening is a paramecia’s awakening. It’s obvious all three Devil Fruit will have a distinct awakening. While logia haven’t been spelled out yet we can see it has something to do with climate conditions. As well as logia having been introduced as tithing users into a natural element. We can consider that pretty much solved. Paramecia can affect their surroundings- which has been demonstrated via using their surroundings as a medium to their abilities. Not only has we already seen it- we were told it, by Doflamingo. So witnessing Katakuri’s awakening should be enough to answer why he is a Paramecia thematically. Editorially? It’s more than likely Oda realized upon planning his awakening that he had made a mistake. Went back, and edited it.

Having two options is a novel way of thinking of it and given there is only one example it's pretty good.
My impression was what made it special is that a true logia type automatically became intangible when struck forcefully, whereas Katakuri had to do it manually in advance. If this is disproven later than I can take this idea back.
Also, it is heavily implied that logia users are always a force of nature, magma, ice, etc whereas mochi is a dessert. So if this is true it may have been disqualified from logia status anyway.

When it was first stated that Katakuri was logia user, the one thing I thought at first was "what if the surrounding environment determines what an element is" since the Whole Cake arc took place in an area primaraly made of sweets maybe mochi could have potentially been acceptable as an "element"

People seem to get confused a lot with the definition of Logias. Basically the user turns into a substance that occurs naturally, at least that is the pattern set from all the logias we have seen, with 0 exceptions. Just to be clear, this classification is based on the information we have and not on my personal opinion. And btw, not all naturally ocurring substances are logias, like Jozu's kira kira no mi.
(no Gasparde's Ame Ame no mi from movie 4 isnt canon so dont even bring that up).
What about Horo Horo No Mi? doesn't it allow you to conjure up ghost as well as astral project, essentially turning yourself to ghost as well? Doesn't this make this fruit a special paramecia under your definition?
Great video as always I just have one problem with your explanation. You talk about katakuri as if he needs his future sight and has to be aware of an attack in order to become intangible when attacked which isn't true. I still think that katakuri would still materialize as mochi when attacked by anything except for a haki infused or seastone object. Whether he is actively trying to dodge or not. If you look at other similar body mod peramesia shown (Luffy) their body is permanently altered whether they are conscious or unconscious, they aren't required to turn it on or off. Katakuri just has the luck of having his body transformed into a sort of semisolid substance. He doesn't actually need to make his mochi mold around attacks, he simply does so as a precaution since haki or seastone could be used in said attack.
Regarding Katakuri the only one who avoid like that for having Observation haki. Kizaru also avoid WB's spear by molding his light body.

Katakuri user observation haki and his fruit using haki too see 7 seconds into the future and open his body making it look like a logia
So I came to this vid bc I read the manga (been catching up) and i disagree that it was intended to be a paramecia, it’s likely that Jimbe said he was a logia….bc he thought he WAS a logia user. The only reasons we the fans and luffy know is bc luffy was able to make him lose his cool enough to make it so he doesn’t use his observation haki….while maybe yes it could be a retcon I think it’s just a situation where he intended to explain it later but ppl took off with the logia labeling and he felt he had to fix it. Bc even in the chapter where we find out why he has logia type properties luffy still referred to him as one (stating haki was supposed to make it so he can hit logia types, in other words he was wondering why he couldn’t hit him despite the haki) before realizing/being told what was actually happening. Your explanation for a special paramecia is spot on tho lol

well given the definition of what a special paramecia is, I think that Daflamingo qualifies as a user of one : after all he is able to produce string, his body was shown to be made and repaired by string, and he is even able to alter hiw surrounding to become strings.
Honestly if you think of a fruit as simply a concept then you can do anything within that concept I think if you gave a df to a kid with an actual imagination a lot of them would be way stronger and also sometimes people create their own limitations because that’s just how they think their power works but they may have grown past them
Since mochi isn’t technically a naturally occurring element it makes sense it wouldn’t be classified as Logia IMO.
I wonder if Kalifa's Awa-Awa fruit could be revealed to be a special paramecia? It probably falls under the same stipulations that Galdino and Magellan do, but some of the construct tricks Kalifa used seemed to go beyond the bubbles her power is supposed to be based around. I could be remembering the power wrong, or making more out of those scenes than necessary; but it would be a cool way to make her into a bigger threat if she ever returns like Lucci has.

I think there's one other difference between Logia and Paramecia. Near as I've seen, Logia users can manipulate their element out in the world and don't seem to be limited to what their own body can create. Crocodile could control all the sand around him and Enel could control lightning from the clouds above him, as two examples.

I am more interested what is the case with Caribou and his Swamp-Swamp fruit.
It was stated that it is a logia type DF, but when it came to the mochi, it was changed, since logia is an ELEMENT and... mochi is not an element... So what about swamp?Can we say swap is an element of nature, or Caribou is a special paramecia, where he can create, and turn into swamp?
Since he turned up in Wano, maybe we will get an explanation for this...
