- Let's do this! The Cult of Hockey podcast. By the Faithful and for the Faithful. Today Bruce McCurdy and David Staples dig into prospects Shane LaChance, Phil Kemp, Beau Akey, Maximus Wanner, Noah Philp, Roby Jarventie, Raphael Lavoie, Olivier Rodrigue, Maxim Berezkin and Jayden Grubbe. Which ones will make it big one day in the NHL. Not all of them. But one or two, most likely.
Cult for all the years much love! David and Bruce are the best!
The players you want and need will be more apparent and more available at the trade deadline...just chill till then. What I am still having a tough time getting past is the Oilers letting Broberg play the final game of the year that made him offer sheet eligible! Was game 82 against the Avs that important...No! This was egregious asset mismanagement. Broberg would have been an incredible injection to this D-core this year.
Oh I never knew that - in hindsight I'm sure they wouldn't have but great point - they could of kept him out and then we'd have control of him for one more year anyway. I wonder who wears the goat horns on that - knob, Holland????
Beau Akey IS the real deal! Just you wait!
Bruce, Stecher averaged 19:59 and 19:55 TOI in his first and third seasons in Vancouver so yes, he’s played top four minutes and actually top pair with Edler in that time.
He can't anymore, would probably work as a third pair d man now.
Next 2 years of newcomers/up comers are going to be a massive tell for how well we can keep this run going. It will be critical that we develop these guys properly.
I think we should just stick with what we got and see what we are going to need!
I wonder if Adam Larson would be open to coming back now?…he’s on his last year of his contract and the kraken have Brandon montour now so maybe they would trade him this year!
Larson is signing for 4 years in Seattle.
@@DS-hs3qp yes I just read that also!…darn
We need to wait. Players are available but not sure any one of them are who we need or want.
I hope Nurse hear this: "everyone still discusses of whom can help you? "
No one can he’s shit
Defense in the playoffs is 9/10's of the law.....the Oilers have stepped down from last years team in that crucial dept.. I have no expectation for another SC final but I am sure hopeful things improve defensively. I'm still wincing over last years game 7 ~ very painful. The defense this year will likely be a mad scramble to get the tightness needed. Darnell Nurse probably taking another beating from the fanbase. Losing the youth the Oilers did this off season is not a promising sign IMO. They were already one of the older teams in the NHL last year. I'd hate to see their window close just after resigning the stars.
Baldy and Beardsley are in top form!!!
Said it before (not here but on another Oiler channlel) no thanks to any 'old' guy like Gio and Shattenkirk. Shatt refused to come here once - and Gio couldn't stick in Toronto - I'd rather run with what we have and to a trade around the trade deadline to get that dman we are missing on an expiring contract using the Blues draft picks as captial to acquire that person and using our accured cap space
No contender has a question mark at 2RD. This is a serious concern when injuries hit, and with the Oilers extended health luck, injuries are coming.
Recently ive had a thought that, Nurse could pair well with Bouchard. Which could allow him to change the narrative around his contract. Also having Ekholm to stabilize the second pairing
Bouch/Ek for life
Which d pair in the decade of darkness was notorious for their d to d, to d, to d, to d, to d, to d passes, and then a turnover? Fayne and Grebishkov?
you forgot Joe Hulbig
Schultz is a NO from me another slow mover and something we don't need
That is fax. Yet another talented and super soft D man isn't the answer.
let’s not act like that was good hockey at all good lord I was fighting a nap there for 80% of the game. Also considering the game was practically abbotsford vs an ohl team probably should’ve been 5 or 6 -0
