  • In today’s acrylic painting tutorial we paint lightning in a cloudy sky reflecting down onto the ocean water. This moody seascape painting lesson is done in real time and will cover the step by step process of how to paint the glow and light generated by lightning as well as the lightning itself. We also paint water washing up on the beach and a subtle manner which is also quite fun. You can find the colors I used for this palette listed below in the description.

Acrylic Paints: Ultramarine Blue, Mars Black, Titanium White, Brilliant Purple

Hi from Scotland. I've just watched this video prior to taking the leap into acrylic painting, I've been searching for one that really inspires me and this is it. You make it look so easy, especially the way you "illuminate" the sky!. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent.

I tried using acrylics once before, but had no clue how to do them properly so gave them up because I didn’t like the look I was always getting. I now know, after watching this video and listening to your teaching that I was not doing a number of things, but namely not being patient enough, nor layering the way I should. Thanks for a very illuminating tutorial! I am a fan and have subscribed to your channel as I’ve much to learn and you’re just the teacher for me,

The best thing about this channel (other than real-time tutorials on YT) is the tiny digital reference pic pinned on the screen at all times. Simple things like that make the learning process so much easier and non-frustrating. I am being nitpicky here but I struggle with values (among a thousand other things). it would be awesome if there was also greyscale version of the pic underneath the coloured one.

I have always had a fascination for those elements. I normally am into fluid art / paint pouring but have lately become more & more inspired by abstract painting . I wanted to say that I love your work and I am very excited to learn this new type of painting so thank you very much for all the tutorials and the time & effort you put into each video . It is very much appreciated. 😉😉

Found your channel yesterday due to suddenly realizing I needed a portfolio for today and ... learn to paint for that. I didn’t end up making an acrylic painting, I included mainly renders because I’m more into cg art (and the course I applied to is about game art), but I’m still glad I found this treasure and might actually want to get into acrylic painting now! I love watching long tutorials (or timelapses and stuff like that), watching people create illuminating stuff, and I’m looking forward to binging your channel! Gonna give you lots of watch hours 😊

Thanks for posting a video I never knew I had to do till I saw it. I think I spent about 2 hours actually painting and 12 hours mixing colours and going over the blends. Yes this took me over 14 hours to complete but I was stuck in isolation so not like I had anywhere else to go! It was so much fun to do (my favourite part was definitely the lightning) but I got lots of great pointers from just following along listening to your illuminating advice. Thanks for sharing your methods and insight that coffee = good arting 😊

I absolutely LOVE this painting! This one is nr one on my painting list now, I´ve been having some really nasty back issues these past 9 months, so I haven´t been able to paint (can barely walk) but like I said, this is THE one for me as soon as I´m able to paint again! it´s mindblowing how fast this actually came together, when I saw the thumbnail I thought it would be MUCH harder, but on the other hand, I should know by now that you are such a good teacher, who illuminates every single detail and every step throughout, in a way that most ppl really can grasp and learn from :)
