Once, back when I still go to public school, we went to the library instead of the usual reading class. It was for why banning books is a bad idea. They pretty much decorated the library in spirits of it, they have a shelf all about it, it carries books that commonly asked to be banned such as a recreation of Anne Frank's diary.
Now, people are on the move to ban as much books as they please. Including my school district! According to the news, they are banning a book over the fact that people think it involves the "critical race theory" (I have zero clue what that is, so that's all I'm going to say about it).
Also, stay awesome, reader! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
From what I know, the critical race theory is about how there's systemic injustice and prejudice towards people of colour.
@@ElariaFlori ah. thank you.
Don't worry, conservatives don't know what "Critical Race Theory" is either.
@@arsomnes Yeah it feels like that. And then they don't care to learn and simply try to say it isn't real.
Book banning shouldn't be allowed in my opinion.
It means that people are taking away children's ability to learn something new, or possibly discover a new, enjoyable story. I now wonder to myself of all the possible books and stories I might've missed out on because upset parents said it should be banned from the library.
It is sad that people will do such things as ban literature.
In my opinion, Book Banning and Censorship, as well as burning is a moral sin.
Ur right less books less education
And if it really has problematic things, well, maybe the problem isn't that they read some book talking about it but that the peers and society teach them that what the books talk about is actually okay or even good.
YES THANK YOU
In fact, book censorship is always bad. Becuase is taking down basic freedom. But it's more dangerous when that is about increase the ignorance.
You finally have the power of God and furries on your side

I live near Mississippi. This HURTS. In my public library, there was this book called, “love makes a family” and featured LGBTQ+ families in the pictures. As a closeted lesbian, it warmed my heart ♥️

I knew a couple McGee's in my life.
They were kinda douchebags but I still knew them.

Could you imagine your state having one of the hardest spellings and not contributing to literacy.
Connecticut is the first in education and I had to Google how to spell it to make this comment!
So, I’m not even a minute in and I have something to say. As someone from Mississippi, Mississippi sucks. There is homophobia and transphobia everywhere, at least the places I used to live as of the last time I was there a few months ago, and they get upset over some of the stupidest things. Like, I had painted nails and I had to remove them because it was an argument every time I left the house!
Watched to 2 minutes, this does not surprise me one bit. There is a reason I will never move back there and only go to see family. Even then, I’m hesitant.
Haha seems like a nice place to live normally.....I don't really see any problem with these "phobias" I Am actually quite uncomfortable and fed up of "those" people , ya know? (Lbt people....I don't even wanna spell them out)
Save yourself, move ASAP!
The people that don’t want these books in their schools are basically saying they want more bullying. Some people are just dumb
The other day I saw some reviews for a really good book with a gay character, who WASN'T the main character! But... there was a review which said "I guess I should have known better then to choose this book to read with my 5 yr old daughter before fully vetting it ahead of time. I don't think it's appropriate to push a gay agenda to children. It's not OK with me."
Now let's point out how wrong she was!
1. The character made no big deal about his sexuality
2. The character was really nice
3. He had to change his name because he was gay and had to run away from home.
(Sorry)
(The book is called the 'dragon squisher' and is amazing!)
Ugh people can be so ignorant
*inhale* Why do people need to stretch it! why is it such a big deal- - w - I bet the 5yo would not even remember it
lmao yeah! I read the Magnus Chase books (really good btw) and looked at some reviews, and there were so many transphobes mad about one of the characters being genderfluid, it was so dumb
the opening quote is legendary
That's ridiculous! 😒😒 Apparently they don't know that kids learn about all of this at a very young age.
Like bruh, don't these ppl literally know that ppl learn about sexuality and gender at a young age?
Like they think LGBTQ+ ppl are brainwashed. Bruh their the ones who are brainwashed
@@cosmic.beauty.blogger5552 the problem is, they don't. Sex ed or just education concerning sexuality and gender is highly controversial in the US right now.
imagine your entire political career and reputation is completely tarnished and ruined by a bunch of furries. What a way to go out. I’m so proud.
I've lived in much of the Deep South, Mississippi I mean "Missippi", Texas, Alabama, and Florida... In Texas and "Missippi" I was constantly bullied in school, In Alabama and Florida the same just more extreme plus a few cases of Sexual Harassment and even having our water and power shut off because they "disagreed with your oldest child's lifestyle" they said to my mother, and even charged us insane Late Fees for it even though we paid on time consistently even with my mother's employer holding her pay, also because of me... or having to buy more food because people stole all of our food trying to get my family to move.
First, it was because I autistic, then they found out I was Pan and Genderfluid... it obviously got worse after that. The schools even told me I wasn't being bullied, and when I was sexually harassed said it wasn't harassment because I liked it because I was a "Sinful Queer Satanist", despite me obviously not liking getting touch rather inappropriately by a complete stranger.
Yeah, we moved really quick after that... now I live in Texas, again... at least I met my boyfriend here... that is only upside.
I'm glad you went somewhere better
@@taleseylad1249 not really somewhere better, just I now have people that actually care about me around instead... still deal with the same crap at school though

First the don't say gay rule now this what ya doing America what next banning rainbows from forming gosh
Maybe they'll just ban colors altogether! Can't make rainbows without colors... 😂🤪
❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Oh well no one likes America, I'm just worried of what this will do to surrounding countries.
these guys are comedians gone wrong
Even if I hadn't have learned about lgbtq+ in school, I (and most other American students) have access to UA-cam videos on the topic, so what will banning books do to stop us from being ourselves anyways? The government never thinks anything through, then again we all know they're idiots
Ah yes, you have access to internet propaganda
It's nice that eventually Mayor Knock-off Mugatu lost in the end, and the library got more funding!
As an LGBTQ author myself, banning books just because they're against "moral codes" and religion is as opressing as being in a cage; people claim about freedom of speech, but when someone or something is going against their opinion, they punish it, they take the liberty away from us and play the victim if we try to defend ourselves, even when we just claim our basic rights as human beings. Mississippi is going to become the next Alexandria, thousands and thousands of wonderful stories will be lost forever inside a cage just because some people don't want their children to learn about love, friendship, that we all are valid no matter our gender or sexual orientation... People like that are forbidding their children from learning about what's important, and instead, they're teaching them about hate, anger, racism, homophobia/transphobia, etc...
I appreciate the furry community for what they did, I appreciate every person that donated to the cause. The world needs more people like them, people who still have hope on future generations being kind and accepting to everyone. If we want a better world, we need to start with the children, and what's better than educate them in love and kindness? Exactly, nothing; we need to teach them about love and kindness, that we all are valid, we all matter... And the firts step to do it so, is by letting them grab a book :)
P.D: Sorry for bad grammar, english it's not my first language.
P.D: I also want to share an experience that I recently had with a book I wrote (not gonna mention the tittle because I don't want people to think this is spam). Last week I sold one copy of my book to one of my coworkers, who is a christian lady. I was worried that she might not like it because of the LGBTQ theme, but to my surprise, she told me she loved it, and even said she was reading it out loud for her grandchildren! When I asked the reason, she said "oh, I just want them to learn to speak properly. They always swear, so I want to show them there are people out here writing amazing stories without any bad words on them", XD
So, after all, I think religion or personal beliefs are not always a excuse for people to considerate something as innapropiate, but when it does, it gives faith a bad name.
please if it dosent exist, write the "heather has to mommies" version of aromantic-asexual-QPR-amatanormitivity for young children.
I too am a lesbian writer and I agree with pretty much every word you say. I have a series of books called the 'Saltbury Chronicles' which are designed, not for children, but for young adults. They are essentially romances, but deal with a lot of serious gender/LGBTQ issues as well as taking a passionately anti racist stance, but they also use humour a lot so as not to seem preachy. I know from the correspondence I get that I have quite a lot of straight readers who just like the stories, but also use them to get an insight into the LGBTQ experience.
I’m glad to see my community helping the library.
idk why mrs. sippy is so hard for people to spell i think its pretty easy

Hey Professor! I'm impressed by this video. I usually am, but this one felt special. It's been a pleasure watching you grow as both an educator and as a presenter. I've said it before, but I like when you get a little fire under you. Anyhow, keep fighting the good one. Love you all 🙂

At my school, I was recently inducted onto a committee to review books that were being considered to be removed. One of the books was Drama by Raina Telgemeier. If you’ve read this book, you know that it’s completely harmless. They wanted it banned because there were gay characters. I’m worried about the path this is going down.
We should just start pushing for a ban on teaching children about Christianity in school. Since they only want to indoctrinate our kids to follow their religion, right?
But honestly it's so strange how some people think, that simply learning about a topic will change a person entirely.
My mom didn’t want me to read

Hello I'm looking for advise on coming out to my parents as gender fluid
I mean my parents support LGBTQ and they are supportive with me being pollysexual demi-sexual and demi-romantic but I'm kinda afraid of coming out as gender fluid soo if anyone has any advise on how to help me a bit that would be appreciated 💜
Your parents seem very accepting, maybe talk about all of the genders and drop down some hints and than you can reveal you’re gender Fluid sometime?
Sorry I’m not good at giving advice,
go up to your parents, pour a some water into cup and then throw a piece of paper saying "gender" and watch disintegrate while your parent are completely confused, Then say "I'm genderfluid."
@@Lilshay. OK I will try that thanks for the advise💜
@@0content21 that's gonna be on top of my bucket list of ways to come out
I think this channel has some tips
I feel very lucky having a school that is very LGBTQIA+ supportive. We recently added a gender-neutral uniform available (it's an all-girls school) and in pride month, we're allowed to blue-tack a picture of our flag in the hallway, and teachers wear straight-ally pins if they support, which is nearly all of them ^^
Note: Even when it's not pride month, there is Straight-Ally flags on the school counselor's door. Also, girls can have relationships with other girls openly at school and no one will stop them, judge them or tease them. Again, I feel very privileged and I feel sorry for the people who aren't so lucky.
This episode made me angry and laugh out loud. How do I get a signed copy of this book?
Oh the SHADE in this video is strong and I LOVE it!
This man roasted an entire group of people with simply facts (the beginning)
The first time I went to the library to look up books on transpeople, I felt embarrassed. We should not feel shame because DeSantis wants us to
And that my friends, is why furries are actually good people
I'm a pre-service teacher, and I did prac at a highschool in a very conservative town. It was the weirdest thing, because the town is very... I don't know how to describe it. They aren't outwardly harming LGBTQ+ or other races, but they're just very quietly against them. Quiet, but firm.
But this school was such a whiplash from that.
I guess it came under a new principle or something, cause it's suddenly really pushing for positive portrayals of diversity. They support students from disadvantaged families, try their best to find ways to help students with disabilities, mental health issues, disorders, etc. Teachers walk around with pride pins and lanyards, they openly celebrate NAIDOC week and Pride month.
It doesn't seem to be well received by the town, but damn if those teachers aren't doing their best to help the next generation be more accepting of people that don't fit their 'norm'.
I went there three times over two years, and there was always something going on in the background. Mental Health awareness weeks, artwork on the very walls of the school by students to support LGBT or Indigenous communities, fundraisers and awareness events for diseases or disorders, you name it, they promoted it! They had an entire building dedicated to helping students who were suffering mentally or emotionally. They had counsellors and chaplains, contact with religious leaders of about half a dozen religions. Students that didn't have the money to bring their own resources were just... given it! Can't afford a book? Done. Can't afford pens and rulers? Done. Can't afford a bag to carry everything? Might not be pretty but you can t least have a box so you don't drop it everywhere!
I don't know what devil that principal sold his soul to to get that kind of budget at a state school, but goddamn.
I just had to get this out there. Even very conservative places can have little hidden gems like this. And this school is going the right way. By not trying to change the adults, and just validate the mere existence of underrepresented people to the children and teenagers, they're significantly increasing the chances that they'll make more of a difference.
furries are the GOAT
...sometimes literally
I just wish the homophobic propaganda will stop. Come let us unite LGBTQ+ and battle this hate with PURE LOVE

YES. This is a topic I feel very strongly about. The whole book banning thing is funny, kind of, but I can't put it any better than Hermione Granger did in Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix, "Oh, Harry, don't you see? If she could have done one thing to make absolutely sure that every single person in this school will read your interview, it was banning it!"(page 582) Ironically, the Harry Potter series is seven of the most frequently banned books. We should be banning books that are 100% false information, not gay.

I’m a single sentence in and I’m already dying 💀💀
I am honestly so, so thankful I'm in a school that is non discriminatory. Our principal is gay, and he ensures all the students have education on different sexualities, we celebrate pride month, and they even gave out little pride flags to any students or teachers who want them. Some teachers even have them hung up in their classrooms! We also have a noticeboard hanging up in the hallway, filled with pamphlets on how to get further educated on lgbtia+, or where to get help if you need it. Hopefully all schools eventually become like this, sooner rather than later. 🏳️🌈
Also, as an avid reader if anyone wants to read a series with incredible representation of all kinds (both cultural and with sexual identities) I cant recommend Shadowhunters enough. It's a fantasy series, so you might not be into that sort of thing, but if you are, check it out! all the Percy Jackson books are great for diversity too.
Or if you don't want to commit to a huge series, the song of Achilles is great. Heartstopper is an amazing graphic novel too, that has a show coming out on the 22nd of this month
