Even for those of us that have been on this earth for 60 years, our favorite albums of all time are the ones we first listened to between the ages of 15 and 25.
I have to tell you, I'm so glad I found your channel, I love Wobbler and I never heard anything from them before!! What a beautiful band, it's 70's perfect prog rock but played in the XXI century!! Thank you, Scott!!!!!
Another great show Scot. Im a old hippy and alot of your albums and bands ive never heard of...but the ones I do are amazing. Thank you for introducing me to new music to explore and enjoy . Still the best Prog channel and great music in general. Peace brother ✌️
I have never heard of that Sufjan Stevens album..or a few others!!! I dont even know who you are anymore🥰…I am taking notes👍,I’ve your #1..great video..lots of surprises👍❤glen
I know you’re hip to the greatness of XTC!!! Definitely check out Illinois. Here’s the most popular track, Chicago: ua-cam.com/video/c_-cUdmdWgU/v-deo.html
Amazing Ukelele send-off! Thank you! And what a great collection of favs! One idea if you’re bored: Maybe one day you should do “Led Zeppelin from less good to best, according to me”. And the same with other artists (your Yes, Genesis… lists were great, and I’m here for more).
Nice picks Scot! Cheap Trick! I saw them live about 12 years ago and they were great. Another group I want to mention is XTC. I’d heard them before, and thought they were ok. However, after watching your videos mentioning them, I decided to give them another listen. I really liked Drums and Wires & English Settlement. Great albums, so thank you - it’s fun rediscovering bands that I didn’t know I’d like. 😊👍
Since me and a friend did a top 100 list of records not to long ago i thought id share my top 15 from that. 15. A.a bondy - when the devil's loose 14. 16 horsepower - Sackloth n' ashes 13. Eels - Beautiful Freak 12. Dylan Leblanc - Paupers Field 11. Alice cooper - Killer 10. 16 horsepower - Folklore 9. Uncle Acid - Blood Lust 8. Guided By Voices - Bee thousand 7. Aimee mann - lost in space 6. Neutral milk hotel - In an auroplane over the sea 5. Eels - Electro shock blues 4. Ryan Adams and the cardinals - Cold roses 3. Eels - Daisies of the galagy 2. Bonnie Prince Billy - I see a darkness 1. Songs ohia - Lioness Awesome video scot!! Thanks for sharing!
Neutral Milk Hotel. How did I forget Aeroplane????? What a record!!!! And I love your #1. Fantastic stuff. Every one of those albums is a “Killer.” You could say I “Love It To Death.”
Some interesting and unexpected choices Scott, some bands that I have never even heard of! I was lucky enough to see Priest in a night club just before Sin After Sin was released and then in larger theater for the Killing Machine tour. I would have to choose Sad Wings of Destiny in my top 15 none prog albums though. I was in my early 20's when electronic pop ruled the airwaves and wore my dancing shoes. Human League's Dare is a desert island disc for me. UFO's Lights Out would also easily make my top 15. Saw the Schenker era and one of the best concerts I've ever seen. Big Bowie fan but only his glam era. Aladdin Sane just pips Ziggy for me. Simple Minds New Gold Dream would also make my top 15.
PerfectFromNowOn was my intro to Built To Spill back when I was doing radio. Great album. They made an album in 2022 "When The Wind Forgets Your Name" that's really good, back to short songs but frickin' GOOD short songs. Agree first Gang Of Four is a masterpiece, also agree that Doolittle is Pixies' best and Drums And Wires is my favorite XTC too...
I’m digging the latest Built To Spill. The last couple were kinda meh. (Except Built To Spill Play The Songs Of Daniel Johnston. That was, of course, amazing.)
No particular order: Boston: Debut Al Stewart: Year Of The Cat & Time Passages Billy Joel: 52nd Street(but the album run from " Turnstiles " through " An Innocent Man " are just a smidge behind) Dire Straits: Making Movies(Love Over Gold is on my prog choice, the whole DS catalog is fabulous) Steely Dan: The Royal Scam(again, a fabulous catalog) ELO: A New World Record(another great artist) The Cars: Debut Tears For Fears: Songs From The Big Chair Huey Lewis And The News: Small World( a bit of jazz rock here, give it a listen) Dan Fogelberg(RIP): The Innocent Age(some good deep cut rockers, he's more than the love ballads he's known for) Steve Winwood: Back In The High Life(yeah, power pop, but still a great listen) Gerry Rafferty(RIP): City To City and Night Owl(Gerry is more than just Baker Street) Heart: Little Queen( their whole catalog is fabulous) The Who: Who Are You(again a fabulous catalog) Paul McCartney & Wings: Venus And Mars/Band On The Run Too many others to mention
I suggest this list: Ambrosia - Somewhere I've never travelled, 1976 Anthony Philips - The Geese and the ghost, 1977 Barclay James Harvest - Time honoured ghosts, 1975 Eagles - Hotel California, 1976 Fish - Vigil... 1989 Gerry Rafferty - City to City, 1978 Iceberg - Tutankhamon, 1975 Jon Anderson - Olias oh sunhillow, 1975 Led Zeppelin - Physical graffiti, 1975 Magna Carta - Lord of the ages, 1973 Mark Shreeve - Legion, 1985 Saga - Silent knight, 1980 Steve Hackett - Spectral mornings, 1979 Stevie Wonder - Innervisions, 1973 Tangerine Dream - Tangram, 1980
All of my Queen faves would go into this category. And frankly that's all I can think of because listening to so much prog has altered my judgement of albums aswell!
Hell Bent For Leather is my favorite JP too. My favorite non-Prog band? The Jesus And Mary Chain I don't know why I don't "get" XTC. I've tried. Guess it's not the beat of me. I wish I had your musical talent. Must be nice to serenade...
Kudos for giving XTC a shot. Their discography is very diverse. For something a bit different I would recommend their 60's tribute album performing under the name The Dukes of Stratosphere.
Well there you go Scot, our taste in Non-Prog music is vastly different with the exception of 2 or 3 on your list. I have Led Zeppelin, Bad Company, Deep Purple and Santana in my top 10. Nice to see A Wizard, A True Star up there which I put above Utopia but that's just me. What does it all even matter when we know YES is the greatest band Prog or Non-Prog that ever existed?🤩
Every one of those albums should be in every music fan’s collection. Brilliant selections. That Minutemen album is a collection of 55 second Prog mini-epics!
Great selection and great channel which I just bumped into. Revolver, yes man, my favorite Beatles album too. I would bring this one on a desert island.
My favourite album of all time is a live album, and for me, it's not even close. Mine is At Fillmore East by the Allman Brothers Band. A double album by a band who melded the blues, jazz, etc, stretching it out with never the feeling that they are over indulgent. Not a note is wasted. Six young men at the top of their games led by their leader Duane Allman. Doesn't get any better than this.
What a pleasant surprise you’ve chosen for your #2 pick. GBV is my favorite Indie rock band and I’m always hard pressed to find very many fans. Bee Thousand is a good one but I’ve had a soft spot for both Mag Earwhig and Isolation Drills. And big time kudos to Quadraphenia. Unlike a lot of Who fans, I also think it’s better than Tommy. But not by a long shot. Oh and nice Ukulele play !!
Mag Earwhig! is probably their proggiest album. I love GbV so much!!! And yeah, Quadrophenia is an album I cannot live without…Tommy is great but a bit dated. Quadrophenia has lost none of its power over the years.
Hey Scott entertainment! Fantastic choice London’s calling another great choice ! Quadrophinia my favourite album of all time drums and wires another one of my all time favourites.. great choices Scott ! 👍
Deep Breakfast - Ray Lynch The September Of My Years - Frank Sinatra Real Live Sound - Agent Orange Pop - U2 Country Music - Willie Nelson X&Y - Coldplay Chinese Democracy - Guns N' Roses Frizzle Fry - Primus Out Of The Cellar - Ratt Gaucho - Steely Dan
@@TheProgCorner I love that live album, just shreds. Absolutely fantastic, good production lots of energy. Songs flow into each perfect. Better than their studio versions easily
Here's 15 of my favorites ,1.Queen. A night at the opera 2.Lou Reed Transformer 3.Sparks Indiscreet 4. Xtc. White music 5.David Bowie Hunky Dory 6. Automatic Man. self titled ,7.The Cars. self titled. 8. Rolling Stones. Some Girls 9.Elton John Caribou 10.T.Rex. The Slider 11.Led Zeppelin Four. 12.Bad Company. Self titled 13.Violent Femmes. Self titled 14.Foreigner. Self titled. 15.The Clash. Combat rock
My 15 favorite non-prog albums: The Beatles- White Album The Yardbirds - Over Under Sideways Down The Who - Quadrophenia Miles Davis - Nefertiti John Coltrane - A Love Supeeme Eddie Harris - Exodus Vince Guaraldi/Bola Sete And Friends Wes Montgomery - Movin’ Wes Antonio Carlos Jobim - Stone Flower Buddy Guy - Blues Giant Jeff Beck - Truth Dire Straits - s/t The Police - Outlandos D’Amour The Isley Brothers - Live It Up Joni Mitchell - Hejira
Correction: For Eddie Harris, Exodus was the lead track. The album was called Exodus to Jazz. On guitar for that one is Joe DiOrio, whom Wes Montgomery once recommended listening to in an interview. On my way to work this morning, I heard Robin Trower (The Fool And Me). Sucks that I would have to remove an album from my list to make room for Twice Removed From Yesterday. None of his stuff is prog although it could be argued that Bridge Of Sighs and Long Misty Days kinda have some prog-like qualities
Very difficult to choose 15 favorite albums. Some I would include too. Others not. I like the little song you played and sang. Are you the new Cat Stevens??!!!
Oh wow, how can anyone dislike a prog expert who plays the ukulele😁 🌊🌴🥥😎 Houses Of The Holy sounds progressive to me! You probably know that the cover was most likely taken from a scene from the science fiction novel Childhood's End. It's a really tough call with some artists and albums!
You sure don't take the tourist lane with this list, dude. I haven't heard most of these albums. Some of them I haven't even heard about. Shame on me, I guess. But this is the fun and educational thing about this kind of list. I can do something about it and I will. I'll start at the bottom and work myself through. Promise. My own list? Haven't got the energy for it right now. It's just too damn hard.
Powerslave is my favorite Maiden ever. The whole package, along with Live After Death, was their creative peak. House of the Holy is also a top twenty for me.
Absolutely!!! Most Iron Maiden songs have a Prog sensibility!!! Steve Harris grew up listening to Jethro Tull, Nektar and Genesis. It’s no coincidence.
Powerslave is a quality product. I like Hell Bent for Leather, too, and Houses of the Holy. Houses of the Holy almost sounds prog! I don’t know what it is about the sound, but I like it. It’s great when it’s playing in the background. You don;t have to listen closely to it for it to be good.
@@TheProgCorner: Perhaps ‘Houses of the Holy’ is a bit higher pitched when compared to Zepplins usual heavy sound? In that regard it would be a bit like ‘Sabbath Bloody Sabbath’. I’m sure there is more positive about it than the average tone being higher. Zepplin is a better band than Sabbath, they’re just in a higher league. I much prefer Sabbath, though.
In no particular order: Who's Next The Doors Santana 3 Magical Mystery Tour Crime of the Century - Supertramp Bridge of Sighs - Robin Trower Countdown to Ecstasy - Steely Dan Private Eyes - Tommy Bolin Stop Making Sense - Talking Heads Motivation Radio - Steve Hillage (too prog for the list?) Black Magic Night - Osibisa Head Injuries - Midnight Oil Shadows and Light - Joni Mitchell Alladin Sane - Bowie Chicago Transit Authority Synchronicity - Police Rock n Roll Animal - Lou Reed
Been an XTC fan since 1979. This was my first xtc album in fact - bought when I was 14. never looked back. Though it wasn't my favorite song at the time - I think complicated game is one of their most epic closers and just love that song - plus all the others of course.
It was my first XTC album too!!! And I was 16 when it came out. From the first note I knew I had a new favorite band. I then went back and got the first two (and the Science Friction EP.) a lifelong obsession!!!
@@TheProgCorner I also liked your top 15 songs! Its a tough exercise and your list was definitely awesome. Happy to see Take this Town on there. Always reminded me of a west side story for some reason. And Punch and Judy is one of the best -- who do we know dear that acts like that. For me, I would throw Blame the Weather on there. Wheel and the Maypole. Optimisms Flame. Jason and the Argos.
yeah agree obviously with xtc cheap trick houses of the holy revolver got them in vinyl "s'il vous plait ";-)) by the way steve hillage produced two lps from simple minds and especialy "sons and fascination " which is a mix between new wave and a bit of kraut things in 81' ...a masterpiece very underated if you like pure mechanical and strong bass lines... go for it ....voila...
Picking 15 albums is not an easy task, for none progresive rock, there are so many great albums, it will take more than a 100.A few of my favorite albums: 1)"Surrealistic Pillow"-Jefferson Airplane(1967) 2)"Rubber Soul"-The Beatles(1965) 3)"The Joshua Tree"-U2(1987) 4)"Machine Head"-Deep Purple(1972) 5)"Sticky Fingers"-Rolling Stones(1971) 6)"Cruzador"-Saxon(1984) and some others that I like.
thanks, i don't know most of these, will check them out. i think the doors had the best debut album, and surprised that or la woman aren't on your list. i would have the white album and a steely dan album on here. and maybe U2 and queensryche.
Here's an idea for a future video: rank your favorite epics by non-prog artists. You could include stuff like Stairway To Heaven, Bohemian Rhapsody, Suite: Judy Blue Eyes, Terrapin Station, etc. (But please...NOT Paradise By The Dashboard Light. Please.)
I'm for sure forgetting some albums but here is mine : 1- Pet Sounds - Beach Boys 2- Abbey Road - The Beatles 3- Rumours - Fleetwood Mac 4- Thriller - Michael Jackson 5- Nightmare - Avenged Sevenfold 6- All Things Must Pass - George Harrison 7- Mezmerize - System of a Down 8- Les Failles - Pomme 9- Powerslave - Iron Maiden 10- Jake Bugg - Jake Bugg 11- Meteora - Linkin Park 12- Dark Eyes - Half Moon Run 13- Hot Fuss - The Killers 14- Djesse Vol.2 - Jacob Collier 15- Back in Black - AC/DC
GUIDED BY VOICES !!!! BUILT TO SPILL (I love those pre "Perfect...." albums/eps !!) XTC !!!!! Hell Yeah (No Deerhoof !?!) Looking forward to a Built to Spill Ranking sometime in the future !! (Go play "The Normal Years" NOW Kids !!!)
Deerhoof does not have that one knock out, perfect from start to finish album. Apple O and Friend Opportunity come close. You know they’ll be there in Part Two next week!!!
Anything by Nick Cave, XTC, The Beatles, The Kinks, David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Steely Dan, Roxy Music, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Pat Metheny, Dio, Iron Maiden, Wilco, Divine Comedy, David Sylvian, UFO, Mastodon, Tom Waits, Radiohead, Rainbow, Deep Purple, Blue Oyster Cult, Duke Ellington, Tangerine Dream, Faust, Kraftwerk etc etc etc

Nearly 5k people care what you think! I am surprised that there are so few punk albums in your list, but not by your number 1. A number of USA groups I have not heard of and must check out the albums. That looks like a relatively new copy of Quadrophenia. I have an original, sitting right next to an original Free Story.
Excellent purchase, my friend. In such good condition, by the looks of it. A great concept album and undoubtedly my favourite Who album. Another successful vid' !
I’m shocked. There’s a reason I waited so long to do this - I really thought there was zero appetite for it. Looks like I was wrong because these videos are a hit!!! (Relatively speaking…)
A lot of these albums I'd class as progressive rock in the truest sense. Led Zeppelin, The Who, XTC. The true meaning of Progressive Rock is not the prog rock of today, a style, it was a way of doing things.
@@TheProgCorner The first Who album had songs influenced by Charlie Parker, (Any Way Any How). The second album had a mini-opera (A quick One While He's Away) and the bizarre (Cobwebs and Strange.) Their third album The Whole Sell Out is a true concept album with a mini-opera in Rael, and songs of spiritual quests, such as I Can't Reach You, Our Love Was, and the trippy Armenia. Their fourth album, Tommy, came out as a full-blown rock opera, a concept album and a spiritual quest and a satire all at once. Their fifth album Who's Next should have been another rock opera, but the revolutionary use of synthesizers on this album place in the prog world. It too is a concept album about a dystopia world like KE9 or LLOB. Next comes Quadrophenia, another opera, full of synthesized orchestration, and a coherent concept story about a alienated teenager seeking peace in a hostile world. The next album, Who By Numbers doesn't fall into any prog template, mostly complaints about life. The seventh album Who Are You, while not a concept album examines the Who's place in a changing musical landscape with some Sci-Fi thrown in for good measure (905). Lots of synth too. After Who Are You, and the death Keith Moon (which I remember all to well) The Who gave up experimentation and concept albums. To my mind, they weren't the Who anymore anyway. Hope this convinces you, but as I said before, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. BTX, I love Illinoise, Drums & Wires too.

Houses of the holy is a killer album! Love David Bowie's Low in the back too! Probably my favourite Bowie album although I love Ziggy too! Hope you are well Scot! Awesome video! Peace! :)
GBV! GBV! GBV! Those early records are amazing, love Vampire and Propeller. My fav is Isolation Drills but it's a hard decision, according to my discogs I have 143 GBV and Bob related albums and singles!
It’s an addiction and Pollard is my drug dealer!!! I love every era of GbV!!! But Alien Lanes, Bee Thousand and Do The Collapse are my three favorites!!! And the new one is awesome…
B1000 and Alien Lanes were what I first and instantly obsessed. Hope your checking the two 40th anniversary shows in Dayton in September. Seeing both and I'm we'll get an awesome setlist each evening. Love your channel and enthusiasm
Wow it’s great to actually find another fan of GBV. I’ve been into them ever since hearing “ Portable Men’s Society “ back in the late 90s. Pollard has a great voice along with tones of killer guitar work by these guys.
When I saw you had Robert Pollards first solo album, "Not in my Airforce" in the background, I decided to watch your video. But when you gave Guided By Voices "Bee Thousand" as No#2, I had to subscribe.
So many great albums!. I feel very identified with Revolver, Entertainment!, Doolittle, Double Nickels and, very specially, Bee Thousand. Those 5 would definitely reach to my top ten with some Deerhoof and Soft Machine. GBV! GBV! GBV!
Favorite 15 non prog albums and I might repeat bands, sorry about that, but Steely Dan will definitely be repeated. I’ve been playing them so much lately. I’m old, so I won’t have any London Calling on mine. Led Zeppelin- Houses of the Holy Blind Faith Steely Dan-Pretzel Logic Traffic- Low Spark Boston - Debut Beatles - White Album Steely Dan-Can’t Buy a Thrill Loggins and Messina - Full Sail CSNY - Deja Vu Jeff Beck - Wired Deep Purple- Machine Head Seals & Crofts Summer Breeze Doobie Bros- What We’re Once Vices are Now Habits ELO -Out of the Blue Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experience Frampton Comes Alive
Revolver, Quadrophenia, London Calling, Houses of the Holy, all great albums. XTC too. Others I was not too familiar with…will explore! A personal non-prog favorite: The Kinks’ One for the Road, a live double album full of hits and classics, with a hard rock edge and tight playing.
Mine would include: SGT Peppers- Beatles Revolver- Beatles Pet Sounds- Beach Boys Smile Brian Wilson Velvet Underground debut White Light White Heat- VU Loveless- My Bloody Valentine Santana III- Santana Rumors- Fleetwood Mac Zeppelin IV Kid A- Radiohead A Day Without Rain- Enya Chicago debut Mr Bungle debut (not sure if this is prog or not) One Nation Under A Groove- P-Funk
Interesting concept for a list because it makes ANYTHING that isn't prog eligible. Makes me want to try, but I'm sure it'll be a super rough list: 15) Steve Reich - Music for 18 Musicians 14) Charles Mingus - The Black Saint and Sinner Lady 13) David Sylvian & Robert Fripp - The First Day 12) Soundgarden - Superunknown 11) Miles Davis - On the Corner 10) Brian Eno - Ambient 4: On Land 09) The New Pornographers - Brill Bruisers 08) U2 - Achtung Baby 07) TV on the Radio - Seeds 06) Steely Dan - The Royal Scam 05) Jon Hassell & Brian Eno - Possible Musics Vol. 1 04) Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children 03) Stereolab - Emperor Tomato Ketchup 02) The Stooges - Funhouse 01) The Velvet Underground & Nico That's just what came to mind, but there were a million other titles that I wanted to put in.
For me ... 1. Clash - Sandinista 2. Clash - London Calling 3. Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes 4. Nick Cave - Ghosteen 5. Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell 5. National - Trouble Will Find Me 6. National - I Am Easy To Find 7. Harry Chapin - Greatest Stories Live 8. October Project - October Project 9. Crowded House - Woodface 10. Meat Loaf - Bat Out of Hell
@@eatmysteel To me, Little Earthquakes is he best debut album ever (assuming it's considered a debut album ... after the Y Can't Tori Read album). For me, it's either Earthquakes or August & Everything After or the debut Tracy Chapman album.

Also taking the opportunity to recommend you King Gizzard(-ATLW) if you haven't already heard of them. Their "Polygondwanaland" album is their proggiest album but if you dive into their catalog you'll find 1: it is very jammy 2: they jump genres like they're playing hop scotch 3: they have a LOT of albums in a short amount of time - 24 albums since their debut dropped roughly 11 years ago. They're one of the very best doing it right now.
This might seem random but healthy hearing is the important subject to music lovers and it is the subject of Tinnitus. I have also fallen asleep with headphones on many times and add all the concerts added to that and weirdly a bad cold that seemed to set it off but it comes and goes. In most instances that seems to be the case!!!
As someone who is turning 60 in a couple weeks, I couldn't agree more.
60 in October here.
Two years away and I couldn’t agree more!
That’s cause most people don’t listen to music they don’t know after the age of 25

Thank you!!!!! XTC are so good!!!! 👍👍👍❤️❤️
Since me and a friend did a top 100 list of records not to long ago i thought id share my top 15 from that.

13. Eels - Beautiful Freak
12. Dylan Leblanc - Paupers Field
11. Alice cooper - Killer
10. 16 horsepower - Folklore

Neutral Milk Hotel. How did I forget Aeroplane????? What a record!!!! And I love your #1. Fantastic stuff. Every one of those albums is a “Killer.” You could say I “Love It To Death.”
@@TheProgCorner hahaha!!! Good one scot.
Eels beautiful freak is amazing
Your channel is great.❤
You are great!!!! Thank you!!!!
❤️👍❤️👍❤️👍❤️👍
Love that Doolittle, Powerslave, London Calling and Revolver made the list.
Amazing records. Man, that was HARD!!!!
I love that album from Simple minds and their early releases Reel to Real Cacophony and Empires and Dance.
Sad Wings Of Destiny is my second favorite Priest!!! Incredible record!!!
No particular order:
Boston: Debut
Al Stewart: Year Of The Cat & Time Passages
Billy Joel: 52nd Street(but the album run from " Turnstiles " through " An Innocent Man " are just a smidge behind)
Dire Straits: Making Movies(Love Over Gold is on my prog choice, the whole DS catalog is fabulous)
Steely Dan: The Royal Scam(again, a fabulous catalog)
ELO: A New World Record(another great artist)
The Cars: Debut
Tears For Fears: Songs From The Big Chair
Huey Lewis And The News: Small World( a bit of jazz rock here, give it a listen)
Dan Fogelberg(RIP): The Innocent Age(some good deep cut rockers, he's more than the love ballads he's known for)
Steve Winwood: Back In The High Life(yeah, power pop, but still a great listen)
Gerry Rafferty(RIP): City To City and Night Owl(Gerry is more than just Baker Street)
Heart: Little Queen( their whole catalog is fabulous)
The Who: Who Are You(again a fabulous catalog)
Paul McCartney & Wings: Venus And Mars/Band On The Run
Too many others to mention
Band On The Run
The Royal Scam
Boston debut
All will be featured in next week’s episode!!!
Definitely some strong albums on your list
WOW ! WHAT AN ENTHUSIASM!! AFTER WATCHING U I THINK I'LL NEVER COMMIT SUICIDE!! SUBBED🤩
I’m here for you!!! We are all in this together!!!
I suggest this list:
Ambrosia - Somewhere I've never travelled, 1976
Anthony Philips - The Geese and the ghost, 1977
Barclay James Harvest - Time honoured ghosts, 1975
Eagles - Hotel California, 1976
Fish - Vigil... 1989
Gerry Rafferty - City to City, 1978
Iceberg - Tutankhamon, 1975
Jon Anderson - Olias oh sunhillow, 1975
Led Zeppelin - Physical graffiti, 1975
Magna Carta - Lord of the ages, 1973
Mark Shreeve - Legion, 1985
Saga - Silent knight, 1980
Steve Hackett - Spectral mornings, 1979
Stevie Wonder - Innervisions, 1973
Tangerine Dream - Tangram, 1980
Great list.
Double Nickles on the Dime, you have great taste bro!
D Boon!!!!!!
Was hoping to see Moving Pictures on here
No Rush on this list. Too proggy!!!!
Great video Scott, very enjoyable. I do not know 'Drums and wires' but i'm keen as mustard to pick it up now.....
Oh yeah!!! Pure brilliance!!!!
Damn! You won't be disappointed!
All of my Queen faves would go into this category.
And frankly that's all I can think of because listening to so much prog has altered my judgement of albums aswell!
👍👍👍
Hell Bent For Leather is my favorite JP too.
My favorite non-Prog band? The Jesus And Mary Chain
I don't know why I don't "get" XTC. I've tried. Guess it's not the beat of me.
I wish I had your musical talent. Must be nice to serenade...
Jesus And The Mary Chain. Man, I wore the grooves off Psycho Candy!!!
Exactly. It’s all just vanity!!!!
👍😎
Every one of those albums should be in every music fan’s collection. Brilliant selections. That Minutemen album is a collection of 55 second Prog mini-epics!
Yes indeed!!! D Boon!!!!
Great selection and great channel which I just bumped into. Revolver, yes man, my favorite Beatles album too. I would bring this one on a desert island.
Me too!!! 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️Glad you found me!!!
It’s a masterpiece. No doubt.
Long time viewer- I'm happy for your success. You're talking to a big crowd every day! Hello from Madison, WI!
On Wisconsin! Grand old badger state. (I’m a Marquette guy so…)
What a pleasant surprise you’ve chosen for your #2 pick.
Thank you, Rob. You are a man of distinction and good taste. Thanks for chiming in. 👍👍👍👍👍
Deep Breakfast - Ray Lynch
The September Of My Years - Frank Sinatra
Real Live Sound - Agent Orange
Pop - U2
Country Music - Willie Nelson
X&Y - Coldplay
Chinese Democracy - Guns N' Roses
Frizzle Fry - Primus
Out Of The Cellar - Ratt
Gaucho - Steely Dan
Agent Orange!!! Fantastic.
Combat rock
Violent Femmes!!! That first album, man!!!
My 15 favorite non-prog albums:
The Beatles- White Album
The Yardbirds - Over Under Sideways Down
The Who - Quadrophenia
Miles Davis - Nefertiti
John Coltrane - A Love Supeeme
Eddie Harris - Exodus
Vince Guaraldi/Bola Sete And Friends
Wes Montgomery - Movin’ Wes
Antonio Carlos Jobim - Stone Flower
Buddy Guy - Blues Giant
Jeff Beck - Truth
Dire Straits - s/t
The Police - Outlandos D’Amour
The Isley Brothers - Live It Up
Joni Mitchell - Hejira
Wes Montgomery!!!! Wow. He could play.
Indeed. Especially Bridge Of Sighs!!!
Love the performance.
Thanks Scot!
Yay!!!!
Very difficult to choose 15 favorite albums. Some I would include too. Others not. I like the little song you played and sang. Are you the new Cat Stevens??!!!
I wish!!!! 👍👍👍
My God There must be something in the water in Boston!!!🤯Soooo much musical talent from that city!!!!😎
A fabulous punk scene too. Just insane.
It is!!! So Part Two next week!!!
This gotta be a great collection! You know how many records you have?
I’m at around 1300. Not nearly enough!!!
I WANT MORE MORE MORE!!!!
@@TheProgCornerI am at 400
Sweet!!!!
@@TheProgCorner I'm at 3.200 or close to it. Many CDs as well.
Of course I need more!
Always more, more, MORE!!!
Nice list! Minutemen and Built to Spill would definitely make my best non-prog too.
You obviously know what time it is.
It was not easy!!!!
Powerslave is my favorite Maiden ever. The whole package, along with Live After Death, was their creative peak. House of the Holy is also a top twenty for me.
Man, Powerslave owns my soul. But I love all 19 Iron Maiden albums!!! A lot.
Powerslave is a masterpiece of an album, though it does have some "prog-iness" to it.
👍👍👍
@@TheProgCorner: Perhaps ‘Houses of the Holy’ is a bit higher pitched when compared to Zepplins usual heavy sound? In that regard it would be a bit like ‘Sabbath Bloody Sabbath’. I’m sure there is more positive about it than the average tone being higher. Zepplin is a better band than Sabbath, they’re just in a higher league. I much prefer Sabbath, though.
In no particular order:
Who's Next
The Doors
Santana 3
Magical Mystery Tour
Crime of the Century - Supertramp
Bridge of Sighs - Robin Trower
Countdown to Ecstasy - Steely Dan
Private Eyes - Tommy Bolin
Stop Making Sense - Talking Heads
Motivation Radio - Steve Hillage (too prog for the list?)
Black Magic Night - Osibisa
Head Injuries - Midnight Oil
Shadows and Light - Joni Mitchell
Alladin Sane - Bowie
Chicago Transit Authority
Synchronicity - Police
Rock n Roll Animal - Lou Reed
The whole discography is insane!!!
Fantastic list!
Thank you!!! 👍👍👍
yeah agree obviously with xtc cheap trick houses of the holy revolver got them in vinyl "s'il vous plait ";-)) by the way steve hillage produced two lps from simple minds and especialy "sons and fascination " which is a mix between new wave and a bit of kraut things in 81' ...a masterpiece very underated if you like pure mechanical and strong bass lines... go for it ....voila...
I love Simple Minds!!! Especially those early Kraut-sounding LPs!!! (I even like their sell out records…)
Good picks!!!!
thanks, i don't know most of these, will check them out. i think the doors had the best debut album, and surprised that or la woman aren't on your list. i would have the white album and a steely dan album on here. and maybe U2 and queensryche.
The Doors!!! Great call.
Big Boys! - we homies homie!
What a band!!!
Please.)
No worries there!!! Not a Bat Out Of Hell fan. I never really liked it. Todd’s production notwithstanding…
I'm for sure forgetting some albums but here is mine :
1- Pet Sounds - Beach Boys
2- Abbey Road - The Beatles
3- Rumours - Fleetwood Mac
4- Thriller - Michael Jackson
5- Nightmare - Avenged Sevenfold
6- All Things Must Pass - George Harrison
7- Mezmerize - System of a Down

I found that copy at a record show. It is a 1973 pressing in mint condition. Only paid $25 for it!!!! And it has all the extras still…
Excellent purchase, my friend. In such good condition, by the looks of it. A great concept album and undoubtedly my favourite Who album.
Another successful vid' !
Let’s hope it does the kind of numbers yesterday’s episode did…
It's looking like it will.

I was so shocked when I first heard the UK version as a kid. I had no idea!!!
Digging that GBV overtook those 4 guys😅
You mean those damned mop heads? Facts are facts…
@TheProgCorner true. I'm not lately a fan of the sample 100 albums to find the good twelve tho. The Bob dude needs an editor
He did that in 2017 when he released exactly one album (Space Gun) and it was amazing. Funny how that works…
What's better than more cow bell? More ukulele!
Exactly!!!
XTC all life my friend!!!!
XTC is life.
A lot of these albums I'd class as progressive rock in the truest sense. Led Zeppelin, The Who, XTC.
The true meaning of Progressive Rock is not the prog rock of today, a style, it was a way of doing things.
Exactly. They are all Prog albums to me!!!
Budgie 1-3,Black Sabbath same, Bloody Sabbath Technical Ecstasy,Nazareth Hair of the Dog,Babe Ruth First Base.
Wells Fargo!!!
O!Yes!
Zapomniałem Rainbow Rising( Stargazer)!
I will argue you to death that the Who's music is all prog from the beginning.
I’m all ears!!!! Tommy and Quadrophenia definitely qualify!!!
Favorite from The Who is actually.........Sell Out
I own all of the albums on your list except the Judas Priest album. Got 8 Priest albums. Just not your favorite one.
I love Judas Priest!!! British Steel. Screaming For Vengeance. Sad Wings Of Destiny. Sin After Sin. Painkiller. On and on and on…

Wow!!! I want to go to see Built To Spill too. Never seen them!!! I’m trying to get on Pollard’s guest list…
Wow it’s great to actually find another fan of GBV. I’ve been into them ever since hearing “ Portable Men’s Society “ back in the late 90s. Pollard has a great voice along with tones of killer guitar work by these guys.
I heard “I Am A Scientist” on WVUM (the voice of the University Of Miami) back in 1994 or 1995 and it was a wrap!!!! Take all my money, Bob.
When I saw you had Robert Pollards first solo album,
"Not in my Airforce" in the background, I decided to watch your video.
But when you gave Guided By Voices "Bee Thousand" as No#2,
I had to subscribe.
Thank you!!! GbV fans need to stick together!!! DISARM THE SETTLERS!!!

Favorite 15 non prog albums and I might repeat bands, sorry about that, but Steely Dan will definitely be repeated. I’ve been playing them so much lately. I’m old, so I won’t have any London Calling on mine.
Led Zeppelin- Houses of the Holy
Blind Faith
Steely Dan-Pretzel Logic

Chicago debut
Mr Bungle debut (not sure if this is prog or not)
One Nation Under A Groove- P-Funk
I almost went with Chicago II and OK Computer…
And I love ENYA!!!
Awesome.
Interesting concept for a list because it makes ANYTHING that isn't prog eligible. Makes me want to try, but I'm sure it'll be a super rough list:
15) Steve Reich - Music for 18 Musicians
14) Charles Mingus - The Black Saint and Sinner Lady
13) David Sylvian & Robert Fripp - The First Day
12) Soundgarden - Superunknown
11) Miles Davis - On the Corner
10) Brian Eno - Ambient 4: On Land
09) The New Pornographers - Brill Bruisers
08) U2 - Achtung Baby
07) TV on the Radio - Seeds
06) Steely Dan - The Royal Scam
05) Jon Hassell & Brian Eno - Possible Musics Vol. 1
04) Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children
03) Stereolab - Emperor Tomato Ketchup
02) The Stooges - Funhouse
01) The Velvet Underground & Nico
That's just what came to mind, but there were a million other titles that I wanted to put in.
My favorite Stereolab.
My favorite Steely Dan.
And Boards Of Canada too!!!
For me ... 1. Clash - Sandinista 2. Clash - London Calling 3. Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes 4. Nick Cave - Ghosteen 5. Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell 5. National - Trouble Will Find Me 6. National - I Am Easy To Find 7. Harry Chapin - Greatest Stories Live 8. October Project - October Project 9. Crowded House - Woodface 10. Meat Loaf - Bat Out of Hell
I almost had The National’s “Boxer” on there!!! And you know I love me some Sufjan Stevens!!!
Little earthquakes....wow...what a superb album that is
Little Earthquakes also probably up there in the "Greatest Debut Album" category
@@eatmysteel To me, Little Earthquakes is he best debut album ever (assuming it's considered a debut album ... after the Y Can't Tori Read album). For me, it's either Earthquakes or August & Everything After or the debut Tracy Chapman album.
Tori-mania!!!!
My list, no repeated bands :
Led Zeppelin IV
Paranoid
Rubber Soul
Disraeli Gears
In Rock
Rising
Tommy
Strange days
Brothers in arms
Powerslave
Rumours
Are you experienced?
Boston
Mother's milk
In Utero
Awesome!!!
Just found your channel and now I gotta drop my current top 15! Hope it's a diverse enough array of rock for everyone in this comment section
...Like Clockwork - Queens of the Stone Age
Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
A Rush of Blood to the Head - Coldplay
Boston S/T - Boston
Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space - Spiritualized
Temple of the Dog S/T - Temple of the Dog
Punisher - Phoebe Bridgers
Second Helping - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Chicago Transit Authority - Chicago
Fire of Unknown Origin - Blue Oyster Cult
Led Zeppelin IV - Led Zeppelin
Full Moon Fever - Tom Petty
Paranoid - Black Sabbath
Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava - King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
Joy as an Act of Resistance - IDLES
Also taking the opportunity to recommend you King Gizzard(-ATLW) if you haven't already heard of them. Their "Polygondwanaland" album is their proggiest album but if you dive into their catalog you'll find 1: it is very jammy 2: they jump genres like they're playing hop scotch 3: they have a LOT of albums in a short amount of time - 24 albums since their debut dropped roughly 11 years ago. They're one of the very best doing it right now.
I haven’t heard them all but I love what I’ve heard so far.
@@TheProgCornerlove to hear it!
This might seem random but healthy hearing is the important subject to music lovers and it is the subject of Tinnitus. I have also fallen asleep with headphones on many times and add all the concerts added to that and weirdly a bad cold that seemed to set it off but it comes and goes. I was wondering if you have to deal with this and if so how because I'm sure a lot of your subscribers do. Thanks!
Good call.
@@TheProgCorner Losing our hearing would be like a bird losing its wings😮😢 Sometimes I skip using headphone out of that fear and maybe some of your subscribers have some ideas no one else has heard of! Prog fans are the smartest and most knowledgeable music fans as you know😁

Dude now it's scaring me! You may be my long lost musical soul mate! Other than the Pixies, that is :)
Spooky action at a distance. Very quantum!!! We’re probably related.
"Better than In the Court of the Crimson King" - eh I don't think so, it might be that Sgt Pepper, The White Album, and Piper at the Gates of Dawn are better but not Gang of Four. Crimson King is a masterpiece of prog rock, prog metal, and art rock!
ITCOTCK is an unimpeachable masterpiece!!! (So is Entertainment!) Piper is another strong contender for best debut!!!
Such an outstanding list, with a few surprises. SO happy to see XTC as your number 1. And that brilliant Minutemen album! Unexpected.

New Sparklehorse album coming!!!! “Gold Day” breaks my heart every single time I hear it. One of my favorite songs ever. And I loved that Klark Kent EP!!!
@@TheProgCornerhey thanks Scot. FYI that Klark Kent release I listed is full length. A compilation of his best stuff over the years. Very hard to find and expensive cd, but can be found on UA-cam. Gratitude!
