- A body image conversation with Gabrielle Reece
Gabby’s raw and honest approach to body image has inspired millions and has been especially empowering to young girls. Her home video (See it here) with their 12-year-old daughter Reece went viral last month where they talked about weight and having a healthy relationship with the scale.
As a 54 year old woman standing at 6'3 I always found joy in your success and how beautifully you wore your height. I think you were one of the first women over 6'0 who was not just a model, but a successful professional athelete. You made me feel proud and okay with the body God gave me. In my twenties I garnered a very tall, lean body and very long hair. Once when I was walking to my car at the beach a guy yelled out to me, "hey Gabby lookin good." That made my whole year! Thank you for bring me and our generation permission to feel good about our big beautiful bodies!
A lot of short men are bullied and a lot of tall women are bullied too
It's great to be confident, but this lady is treating her daughter like an object. It's sad honestly. That's how your kids end up being very self conscious. Her daughter probably thinks "My mom was showing me off to the camera since I'm 5'10 and 12 years old, so everyone must judge me this way and I must judge everyone this way". I find Gabby's vanity and her objectification of her daughter for a youtube video distasteful.
Social media has amplified attention seeking behavior and beauty based competition unfortunately.
The most beautiful women to me aren't the ones posting naked pictures online, or women who are 6'4 or 4'11, it's the ones who love God, are modest, compassionate, sweet, loving, feminine, smart, generous, independent, and funny. After all beauty is common and there will always be younger more attractive women, what matters more is truly on the inside.

Thank you for sharing! I think, as a woman, it takes real bravery to talk about this stuff in public, especially from your daughter (props to you!!), but I think it is important to break the stigma behind it. Although I am not a woman, I have dealt with body image self-consciousness as a man, and it feels good to see people empowering themselves, so thank you :)

Thank you! As the mother of a strong, beautiful, athletic 10 year old girl - who is heads above her peers in size, we need more women and girls like the two of you to be in the public to our girls! She just started to be self conscious about her size as she is almost taller than I . I work hard to get her to embrace her strong body. I will share this video with her.
