I'm so glad you posted a little short for this on instagram - I have been winding my own balls from loose skeins, but didn't know how to make it a centre-pull. Thanks!
Hey! I wind it up in a ball BUT never thinking of doing it that way, in that direction for a center pull! Genius! Thank you..all it takes is for a little direction to simplify your life! Thanks for sharing!😊
I've started building my own peg board for this very thing, have learned loose skeins don't organise as well so I'll be cakeing up every bit of yarn I've got! Thanks for the tutorial ❤️
I loved it! At first I thought it was hard but I got the hang of it a few seconds after, I normally make my skein yarn into yarn balls but I wanted to try something new and now i"m gonna be making yarn cakes for the rest of my life :D
Thank you SOA MUCH for this! I bought a yarn winder and man it's so crappy and hard to use. Somehow doing this by hand is so much easier and nicer looking, but it does take quite a while.
Thanks so much for your wonderful feedback, Dee! I totally agree - it’s much easier to use from the center! And I love how the cakes sit flat so they don’t roll around!
@@AllAboutAmiBlog Absolutely! Btw, I recently completed your Midtown Cardigan and I'm totally in love with it. I love your blog! Thx for sharing this with us. :)
Dee Manson ahhh that’s amazing how you completed the Midtown Cardigan! Thanks so much for letting me know! I really appreciate your kind words about my blog!
Hey hey, this is exactly what I am doing by going around my thumb as it leaves a hole in centre for me to put on my wooden yarn holder. BUT BUT BUT i never thought of centre pull !! Thanks for the idea!! I will extend it to my current practice ! ❤
Soo amazing! Thank you! I looooove it! I didn't even know this was a thing until recently. Ive always just done balls. Lol Very simple explanation. God bless you.
@@AllAboutAmiBlog exactly.. i am still a student so i dont have much time to do all this.. but whenever i am free i like to knit and crochet.. its like a relaxation from all the stress..
I think I might do this with the two skeins of yarn I'm currently working with that didn't end up pulling from the center. I also have a huge ball I made from one of those really big skeins but it has been annoying because it is too big to fit in my yarn bowl and roll around. I'll probably just keep using that one though as I don't feel like taking it apart.
I have recently been using the cakes pulling from the outside using a yarn bowl. That way at the end you don't end up with a loose jumble of yarn. Read that on someone's blog when reading about yarn bowls. It seems to roll around in the bowl better. This is best with fine yarns as larger ones don't fit in the bowl. I was doing center pull before though. Maybe will use center pull for bigger yarns and outside for smaller. Also when u have to frog your work you can just wind it back around the outside of the ball again. I am frustrated with my yarn winder at the moment. The yarn keeps falling off the side of the ball when winding. Grr. Might have to wind it by hand.
Well my goodness! Aren’t I clever. I’ve been doing this for years but made it round. I love winding my ball of yarn for a center pull. It’s worth the time and hassle of having tangled yarn.
If you were to do this with a crochet hook, I assume you would have the end of it through the center the entire time? Or would you start that way and slowly pull it so the tip is in the center of the ball? I've been looking for this method for a while!!!
It was so easy! I normally make yarn balls, but after watching this, I'm converting i to the cakeness! Thank you!!❤

Mine keep coming out ball shaped instead of cake shaped. Can you offer any suggestion?
