    I always wondered how a serger functions. Your tutorials are really really good and informative. I watched all 8 episodes. Thank you for explaining the machine so well.

    Just bought a serger a few weeks ago, wish I had seen this first very easy to follow step by step. Also threading instructions in my manual are wrong, so maybe now I won’t constantly have broken threads. Thank you

    This was a lot of new/good info -- esp for one who still struggles with the serger - after 20 yrs.

      Hello, Juan. I am not personally familiar with that method; however, after doing some research online, I found a blog about it. I hope that it helps you! www.ehow.com/how_8776167_make-patch-merrow-serger.html

    So is this stitch only for non-fraying material? If the material frays - for instance linen - would I do an overlock stitch first?

    If I want the knitted loops on both sides of the flatlock seam, is there any reason I can't fold it one way, serge that side, then fold it the other way and serge the other side?

    is the 3 thread flat lock more durable than the 2 thread flat lock??? looking into using this technique on future alethic garments.

    • @SewingPartsOnline
      @SewingPartsOnline  8 років тому

      aero luxe Yup, a 3 thread is stronger. For althetic gear, you'll probably want to use a 4 thread overlock; 3 Thread Flatlocks are also very popular for athletic wear - just remember to reinforce those high stress areas. Good Luck!

      he did not say athletic gear, he said alethic garments, are you dyslexic?

    I'm using this stitch to join two pieces together but it doesn't seem strong enough, or I'm doing something wrong? the stitch keeps coming off when I'm pulling the pieces to see if it will hold together. I'm using a thin fabric, and silky fabric. Do you have some advice?

    • @SewingPartsOnline
      @SewingPartsOnline  7 років тому +2

      Hi, Viviane! The trick here is to stabilize the two pieces of silky fabric. You can do this by turning the fabric, using traditional stabilizer, or even a lining fabric. Good luck!

    Is a flatlock the same as a cover stitch

    • @SewingPartsOnline
      @SewingPartsOnline  7 років тому

      Hi! No, a cover stitch creates a finished edge and a double row of straight stitches. That stitch is made with a Cover Stitch machine, like this: www.sewingpartsonline.com/janome-1000cpx-coverpro-coverstitch-serger-machine.aspx

    Okay, so the visual elements in the all of the previous videos was slower and easier to see. It would be so so very helpful in a "beginners" video to slow down and show front and back in a still frame. Otherwise, great information. Thank you.

      Thanks for your help and time doing these videos. In your video on flatlocking you mentioned a converter,can you please tell me if this part is necessary for flatlocking and what role does it play in the process. Thanks
