Unfortunately, due to the camera not being closer, and the clothing item was dark in colour, I was unable to see a close up of the finished hem.
The whole idea of me trying to find a video of hemming with an overlocker was to see how the end result looked.
I'm sorry to hear this. This was one of my earlier videos. I do try to use lighter colours for demonstrations now. It is useful to have feedback so I can hopefully improve future tutorials.
@@bobbinsandbuttons Yes, please. Not only use a lighter fabric color but also use contrasting threads so viewers can easily see the end result. Thank you!
@@proudasiangirl576 yes most video I do now I try to ensure there is a good contrast.
That's brilliant Julia. I never new that. It's blown me away that I can use my overlocker to do a hem. Everyday is a school day. Love it. Thank you.
Thanks Irena lots of other tricks to come too :-)

Thanks sew much for this video. I will definitely try your technique next slippery top I make. I just finished hemming a slippery knit top with a twin needle on my sewing machine and wasn’t happy with it despite starching it and using a knit hem tape. It created a ridge despite my best efforts. Thanks again!
Pleased you found it helpful. I hope you get on ok with your next make. Let me know how it goes.
Closer view would be appreciated
I learned this technique some years ago and it is my favorite technique for hemming very stretchy thin knit fabric. I think it looks so much nicer than a cover stitch. I also use a three thread serger stitch which has proven time and again to be the best stitch for very stretchy fabric. It is strong enough with absolutely no risk of popping a stitch. I am so happy that you are teaching this technique.
Thank you Angelina I do generally use 4 thread but will try out 3 thread now you've mentioned this. Yes I love this clean simple finish too 😊
Couldn't see finish at all
Yes, sorry since starting to make videos I've realised they work better with contrast colour thread etc. This one was an early one.
I'm definitely trying this on my next Jersey top! Rebecca.
its good fun and looks really neat, hope it goes well.
Please consider using a tripod to hang a camera above the serger / overlocker so that viewers get a topical view directly over where you sew and zoom in on the camera. Thanks for the consideration.
Thanks for your comments. Since making this I have invested in an overhead tripod and I continue to learn better methods to demonstrate. I am quite new to making videos.
I was going to ask why any hem, I’ve sewn using this method, has flipped up - but you answered it - I should have done it deeper.
Great pleased you found this useful
Good instruction going to try but really wasn’t easy to see need clearer filming !
Hi would this work with a woven fabric.
Yes, you can see this technique used as a drawcord channel on a woven bag in my upcycle project on here.
I can’t see it very well on black fabric.
I have demonstrated this technique on my overlocker bag tutorial. I am planning another video that will include this too.
Sehr schlechte Bildqualität 😢
I am filming a new video with hems and will demonstrate this again.
Not Happy with the presentation!!
Im sorry to hear that
